GENTLEMAN, WEAR YOUR ENGINE

The new Manero Flyback is the perfect companion for a gentleman who appreciates refined technology. A gran turismo and a fine chronograph share a certain evocative style and sport pedigree. Their appeal is not merely aesthetic, both GT and timepiece ally sportiness with elegance and technical prowess. Carl F. Bucherer's Manero Flyback embodies these very same characteristics, and it has become the timepiece of choice for men who appreciate style and powerful performance and is thus hugely popular with gentlemen. The traditional Lucerne-based brand now imbues this elegant timepiece with additional charisma in a new variant.

An Aristocratic Face

The dial of a watch is the face it presents to the viewer. As such, Carl F. Bucherer has equipped the Manero Flyback with an exceptionally superior dial in its latest iteration. Its gold and champagne-colored surface coordinates flawlessly with the warm rose gold of the case and is in complete harmony with the Manufacture's new golden brand identity that was launched last year.

With this chromatic detail, the sole luxury watch manufacturer in the heart of Switzerland pays homage to its home town of Lucerne, with its proud baroque heritage. The base color of the new electroplated dial is a gleaming champagne gold, while the dial train and the two subsidiary dials stand out in a deeper golden hue. The seconds display at 9 o'clock and the stop minutes at 3 o'clock are recessed, and work with the peripheral flange – complete with tachometer scale – to accentuate the three-dimensional design of the dial.

The harmony of the colors is perfected by the delicately faceted applied hour-markers and the hands in their rose gold hue. Superb lance-shaped hands display the time in typical Manero style, while the thinner hand indicates the chronograph seconds reading. The entire watch face is protected by a 4-millimeter high sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on both sides, ensuring the time is easy to read from all angles. It arches and projects jauntily over the dial and bezel, literally crowning the whole timepiece with a truly elegant cockpit.

Rounded Shapes, Warm Colors

The sophisticated appearance of the watch is perfected by a classical round case measuring 43 mm in diameter, secured on the wrist by a cognac-color alligator leather strap complete with gold pin buckle. The mushroom-shaped pushers controlling the chronograph function highlight the classical style of the watch, while their large surface area offers practical advantages: the pressure point of the chronograph start and stop buttons can be felt with great precision, enabling particularly accurate timing.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                      BIG FOTO

A Very Special Power Unit

The same principles apply to the reset button for returning the chronograph hands to zero. In the Manero Flyback, this function does not operate solely after time measurement has ceased, as is normally the case with chronographs. The Caliber CFB 1970 is operated by a control wheel which also possesses a flyback function. This means that both chronograph hands can be reset to zero while the chronograph is still running, and thus a new measurement can be started without any intermediate delay in timing.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                      BIG FOTO

Thanks to this function, a series of consecutive time measurements can be made one after the other. The new Manero Flyback is yet another timepiece that bears witness to the long years of experience that Carl F. Bucherer has been accumulating since 1888 in the heart of Switzerland.

IWC – BIG PILOT's Annual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince” Gold Unique

IWC SchaffhausenBIG PILOT's Annual Calendar Edition Le Petit Prince” White Gold 46 mm Unique Piece NEW

#BLUEDIAL: A DESIGN TREND
FROM
SCHAFFHAUSEN IS TAKING
THE WATCH WORLD BY STORM

Schaffhausen, 12 December 2016 50 years ago, IWC Schaffhausen created watches with blue dials. In doing so, the watchmaker from north-east Switzerland set off a design trend that has now spread throughout the entire watch industry. Around 120 references and limited special editions with blue dials have been launched in the six watch families and in various shades since 1967. IWC presents the latest highlight in blue – the Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition Le Petit Prince with a blue dial and a blue-coloured movement, limited to 250 pieces.

Blue represents the expanse of the sky and the unfathom able depth of the sea. The colour of distance and infinity radiates harmony, contentment and peace. Watches with blue dials are currently all the rage in fashion and have also gone down a storm on the Internet for months under the hashtag #bluedial. As one of its pioneers, IWC Schaffhausen has had a significant influence on this design trend: the manufacturer launched its first models with blue dials in 1967 – the Ingenieur Automatic (Ref. 866 AD) and the Yacht Club Automatic (Ref. 811 A /AD). This kind of timepiece has had a permanent place in the collection ever since.

In the 1990s, the rule that blue dials could only be used with platinum cases still applied – such as the legendary 1994 Pilot’s Watch Mark XII (Ref. IW324107) or the 1999 Pilot’s Watch UTC (Ref. IW325103). Today, however, elegant blue dials can also be found in combin ation with gold, stainless-steel or even ceramic cases.

BLUE IS VERY MUCH AT HOME ON THE “LE PETIT PRINCE”
AND THE “LAUREUS” TIMEPIECES

Since 2008, IWC has also regularly launched Pilot’s Watches in honour of the famous story “Le Petit Prince” by French aviation pioneer and author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. All “Le Petit Prince” watches boast blue dials. IWC is carrying on this tradition and now presents the latest highlight in blue: the Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince” (Ref. IW502703) is limited to 250 pieces. This timepiece a white gold case not only has a blue dial but, for the first time in the history of IWC, also a blue movement: the IWC-manufactured 52850 calibre is visible through the sapphire-glass case back and gets its distinctive colour from a coating with various metallic oxides.

In addition to the “Le Petit Prince” Pilot’s Watches, the colour blue is also a firm fixture in the special editions for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation: besides their engraved back, the dial in Laureus blue is the key feature of these timepieces, which IWC has released every year since 2006. In the tenth overall special edition for Lau-reus, the Portofino Automatic Moon Phase 37 Edition Laureus Sport for Good Foundation (Ref. IW459006), the colour blue also represents the hope of disadvan-taged children and young people for a better future.

BLUE SPECIAL EDITIONS
DELIGHT COLLECTORS

IWC has always skilfully showcased the colour of the ocean in various special editions. The watchmaker created one of its most spectacular shades of blue in 2004 for the Aquatimer Edition “Cousteau Divers” (Ref. IW354803/IW354806) diver’s watch. IWC reissued a style icon this year with deep blue dials – the Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante Edition Boutique Milano (Ref. IW371215) and the Edition “Boutique Munich” (Ref. IW371217).

BLUE DIALS GO INTO THE
VACUUM CHAMBER

IWC often uses what is called physical vapour deposition (PVD) to manufacture blue dials. The PVD procedure allows extremely dense coatings to be created, which are only fractions of a micrometre thick. The dials are first galvanically nickel-plated and gold-plated. The actual PVD coating then follows, where they are steamed in a vacuum chamber with gaseous metal ions. The final colour depends on the specific process properties and the coating thickness, among other things. As an alter native to PVD coating, special paints are also used to achieve the blue colour on certain models.

MONTBLANC – NEW Bronze 1858 Collection

MONTBLANC – Introduces Bronze into its 1858 Collection NEW

Vintage watchmaking at its finest:
Montblanc introduces bronze into its 1858 Collection

Montblanc’s watchmaking expertise goes back to 1858, the year Minerva was founded in Villeret, Switzerland. Since its inception, the Manufacture has been renowned as one of Switzerland’s most revered specialists in chronometric functions for precise time measuring. And since 2007, Montblanc has been exploring Minerva's incredible heritage, finding inspiration in historical functions, mechanics and design codes.

The resulting timepieces capture all the spirit of the past in a modern way. The Montblanc 1858 Collection continues this journey by reinterpreting the famous Minerva military chronographs from the 1930s, with distinct designs and exceptional mechanics that traverse time.

Turning to bronze

The vintage style of the Montblanc 1858 Collection has been further enhanced by the introduction of bronze — a first for the Maison. Through this choice of metal, Montblanc combines traditional Swiss artisanal watchmaking with a genuine material from watchmaking history, embodying the true military spirit of the 1930s. Bronze complements both the colours of the dials and the antique-style straps with its warm sheen, unifying all the elements for a true vintage design. For the first time in the watchmaking industry, bronze is coupled with steel for two new models, and it results in a bi-colour, bi-material combination that brings out the best of vintage design at an extremely attractive price point.

Special attention has been paid to researching the perfect alloy of bronze that will evolve with its owner by developing its own unique, uniform and attractive patina over the years. The subtle changing colour of the case further enriches the vintage appeal of each timepiece.

Montblanc is proud to unveil three new bronze versions within the Montblanc 1858 Collection — a Montblanc 1858 Chronometer Tachymeter Limited Edition 100, a Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time and a Montblanc 1858 Automatic timepiece.

Design codes

The historical design codes taken from the original 1930s Minerva chronograph include large cathedral hands, with their cloisonné design filled with beige Super-LumiNova®, luminescent Arabic numerals, vintage shaped crowns and classic minute railway tracks that encircle the dials. Other vintage codes include the original Montblanc logo from the 1930s era with its historical font and emblem of the Mont Blanc Mountain in the centre, along with new cognac-coloured calfskin and alligator straps that have been given an aged look by the artisans at the Montblanc Pelletteria in Florence.

Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Limited Edition

The 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Limited Edition showcases a vintage style from the design of the case, to the movement, strap and details on the dial. The timepiece comes with a retro-vintage champagne dial that has a sunray finishing to match the bronze colour of the case. This combination of colours and finishing gives a monochrome and mono-material aspect to the timepiece, accentuating the volume of the timepiece and drawing attention to the details, such as the historic cathedral-shaped hands and beige Super-LumiNova® markings that accentuate the vintage style while also providing excellent readability at night.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                       BIG FOTO

This limited edition is housed in a 44mm full satinated bronze case with a bronze coloured titanium case back (to avoid allergies) and polished bezel for increased depth. Other noteworthy features include cognac alligator leather straps that, like all the straps in the 1858 Collection, have been crafted at the Montblanc Pelletteria in Florence, and feature satinated bronze plated buckles that complement the overall design.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                       BIG FOTO

At the heart of the timepiece lies a traditional manual monopusher chronograph, the Minerva MB M16.29, with a column wheel mechanism, horizontal coupling, chronograph bridge in a "V" shape, a large screwed balance wheel with a frequency of 18,000 semi oscillations per hour and a power reserve of 50 hours.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                       BIG FOTO

This in-house chronograph has been entirely handcrafted at the Montblanc Manufacture in Villeret and is a sight of unparalleled beauty thanks to its exceptional finishing. Designed in a large "pocket watch" style, the MB M16.29 has been inspired by the original 17.29 Calibre designed for pocket watches and wristwatches in the 1930s. This new version uses almost the same shape of components as the 17.29 Calibre, but features different finishings, such as inside angles, Côtes de Genève stripes and circular graining. For the first time, the Calibre MB M16.29 bears red gold-coloured components that offer a totally new look and that perfectly match the bronze material and vintage appeal of the timepiece, while also reinforcing its monochrome aspect. As with all the Minerva calibres, one of the movement’s components is shaped into the form of the Minerva arrow to pay tribute to the Manufacture's heritage.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                       BIG FOTO

The chronograph indications are displayed via a central chronograph seconds hand and a chronograph minute counter at three o'clock. Other indications on the dial include a tachymeter scale that runs around the dial and a small seconds’ counter at nine o'clock. The MB M16.29 is a chronograph that adheres to the true spirit of fine watchmaking.

Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time

The vintage Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time, with its highly recognizable styling, recalls the famous military Minerva timepieces from the 1930s. Traditional black dials, cathedral-shaped hands and beige Super-LumiNova® Arabic numerals come together in this highly legible, vintage-inspired timepiece. The Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time comes in a 44mm satinated stainless steel case with a bronze bezel and crown.

Powered by the Calibre MB 29.19, this automatic movement features a dual time complication entirely developed and assembled in-house with a home time indication and a day/night display. A skeletonised home time hand is positioned in the centre with a touch of Super-LumiNova® on its tip to distinguish it from the hour hand, which is completely filled with Super-LumiNova®. The dual time function comes into play while travelling as the user can set the local time hour hand to the new destination time zone without affecting the home time hour hand. The minute hand and the second hand also both continue to run uninterruptedly during this setting process, thus preserving the exact time. A day/night indicator, which is connected to the central home time hand, is visible in a small aperture at 12 o’clock. At six o’clock, a subdial indicates the small seconds and the date, which is linked to the local time.

Ulysse Nardin – Classico Rooster Gold Edition

Ulysse Nardin Introduces the “Year of the Rooster”
Timepiece to the Classico Collection

Confident and dynamic, the rooster rules the roost with hard work and innate talent. Very little escapes the pow-ers of perception of this highly observant creature, renowned for his sociable, gregarious nature. In keeping with his pride of place on this precision Classico, the rooster is also widely appreciated for his punctual timekeeping! Ulysse Nardin celebrates his energetic panache with the “Year of the Rooster” timepiece, the most recent addition to the Classico Collection.

In this classical depiction, the artist has perfectly captured the rooster’s natural energy. It is the centuries-old champlevé method of enameling that brings the artist’s sketch to life. A rare art form and one mastered by very few, the champlevé technique involves the carving of cells with a chisel directly on the dial, which are then filled with enamel. Its colors come from the careful blending of different metallic oxides. The piece is then fired until the enamel melts.

For over 25 years, Ulysse Nardin has been bringing this artistry to its dials, and is in fact one of the only watch-makers devoted to the centuries-old craft. It is mastered in-house at Donzé Cadrans, a member of the Ulysse Nardin group of companies.
