A sophisticated, 42 mm white gold case frames the galvanic, skeletonized dial revealing the manual wind 49-13 movement. The latter's complex mechanics set the rhythm of the blued hour, minute and small second hands; they also drive the moon phase display, positioned at 10 o'clock, whose finely worked skies are crafted in the watchmaker's own dial manufactory in Pforzheim, Germany. A separate display at 2 o'clock, marked with the words "auf" (up) and "ab" (down), is dedicated to the 40-hour power reserve. A dark blue Louisiana Alligator leather bracelet with foldover clasp underscores the elegance of the filigreed skeletonized timepiece.

Finely polished and satin-brushed red gold lends a warm glow to the 36 mm case, enhanced by a bezel set with 52 brillant-cut diamonds (1.09 ct). A diamond cabochon transforms jewellery of the crown, which is also very easy to use. Red gold hour, minute and second hands are set off nicely, as is the date window at 6 o'clock, by a galvanic black dial with sunburst finish. Its velvet hue is taken up by a black Louisiana Alligator leather bracelet with red gold foldover clasp. Inside the watch beats the 39-22 automatic movement, featuring a 40 hour power reserve and second stop mechanism. The beauty of its refined decorations is revealed through a sapphire crystal case back.

The new Radiomir 3 Days collection tributes to the brand’s late 1930s’ models with the unique screw type 12-sided bezel design.

In the late 1930s, Panerai made a number of Radiomir watches with a special 12-sided bezel, engraved with the words "OFFICINE PANERAI BREVETTATO". This inscription referred to the patented luminous substance Radiomir used on the dial, and it suggests that the watches were used not for military operations but for presenting to the authorities of the Royal Italian Navy, which was evaluating new instruments for underwater missions. The new Radiomir 3 Days Acciaio models are two Special Editions from the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel, limited to 1000 pieces only per model, which for the first time reproduce all the fundamental characteristics of these vintage watches, respecting their identity and giving collectors the opportunity to appreciate a fascinating chapter in the Panerai story.

The first vintage detail of the new Radiomir 3 Days Acciaio watches is the 12-sided bezel in brushed steel, with smoothed, polished angles and the same engraving as the historic models, using the lettering of the time. The bezel is screwed onto the classic cushion caseband of the Radiomir and, together with the screwed back forming the rear part of the case, like the historic watches it has an elegant symmetrical construction divided into three parts, clearly visible when looking at the case in profile.

The case is made of stainless steel (AISI 316L) and it is the same classic size as that of vintage Panerai watches, 47mm in diameter. The wire loop strap attachments are removable, making it easy to replace the tough strap of untreated brown leather, finished with ecru sewing and closed by a large buckle with a single prong.

Another fascinating element inspired by the historic models is the dial. Remarkably simple and minimalist, with the sandwich structure which maximises the legibility of the large figures and markers, the dial is available in black (PAM00685), the colour of the vintage model, or in shaded brown (PAM00687), a completely new colour in the Panerai collections, which evokes the lightening effect which the Radiomir, the luminous substance based on radium, had on the original black dials.

On the back of the case, a large porthole with its sapphire window reveals the P.3000 hand-wound mechanical movement, completely created in the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel. The calibre measures 16½ lignes a size typical of the period models and it has large, brushed finish bridges covering the greater part of the wheelwork, a large balance wheel 13.2 mm in diameter and two spring barrels, which provide a power reserve of three days.

The P.3000 movement also has the device for quickly changing the time, enabling the hour hand to be moved backwards or forwards in jumps of one hour, without interfering with the movement of the minute hand or the running of the watch.

Both the new Radiomir 3 Days Acciaio models are water resistant to 30 meters. Inside the elegant wooden box in which the watch is presented is a second Plexiglas® crystal, the certificate personalised with the serial number of the Edition, and a rare publication describing the military equipment of the special forces of the Royal Italian Navy, in which Panerai watches and instruments appear.

The distinctive and iconic case of the Chimera, for this model in titanium grade 5, features a bezel in forged carbon fibre placed in the case mould in a way that makes each watches unique and, from an aesthetic point of view, a marbled effect, satiny and soft to the touch. Each watch is unique because the carbon fibers are distributed in a random manner in the mold. When the material is compressed under heating, it evolves in an unpredictable way.

The dial consists of three superimposed discs with the last layer made of a laser cut fine wire mesh in stainless steel which allows the movement to be half-seen. Under the curved sapphire glass on the face a U-77 top Soigné with black screws, rhodium plated, automatic mechanical chronograph personalized to U-BOAT specifications.

Oris announces a new partnership with GIGN, the French
police force’s special intervention unit

Oris is extremely proud to announce a partnership with the Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale, known as GIGN, the French police force’s elite special operations unit. In honour of the association, Oris has produced a limited edition version of its innovative Big Crown ProPilot Altimeter, known as the Oris GIGN Edition Limitée.

GIGN was formed in 1974. In its capacity as a law enforcement agency and special operations unit, it is licensed to intervene on French soil or abroad. GIGN’s unit has 380 members, which are highly trained paratroopers, equipped to perform high-risk operations, including counter terrorism, hostage rescue and the targeting of organised crime. They execute between 6,000 and 7,000 parachute jumps a year and among them only 26members own the rare degree of «Chuteurs Opérationnels».

When jumping, GIGN’s operatives are equipped with high-tech computerised equipment that provides them with critical data, such as distance to the ground, information they need to know before deploying a parachute. While these devices are hugely reliable, there is still a chance they will fail. In the event of such a failure, paratroopers need a back-up device.

For this, GIGN turned to Oris’s Big Crown ProPilot Altimeter, the world’s first watch with an automatic mechanical movement and a built-in mechanical altimeter. GIGN acquired a watch and put it through a series of demanding tests, which it passed, leading to the partnership between Oris and GIGN.

The Oris GIGN Edition Limitée is based on the Big Crown ProPilot Altimeter, but with a few aesthetic points of difference that bring the relationship with the elite French unit to life. The GIGN insignia sits on the dial and case back, and the tip of the central seconds hand is finished with the colours of the Tricolore, France’s national flag.

Only 500 pieces will be made for civilian use. Oris will also make a second limited edition model with a different GIGN insignia on the dial that will be made available exclusively to GIGN paratroopers.
