Ateliers deMonaco – Tourbillon Oculus 1297 Titanium

Ateliers deMonaco Tourbillon OCULUS 1297 Petite Minute Titanium Limited Edition NEW

Ateliers deMonaco presents the Tourbillon Oculus 1297 in titanium.
A dazzling association of watchmaking tradition
and high-tech innovation.

Baselworld 2016

To truly appreciate the value of each passing instant, one must be able to measure it. True to technical excellence and aesthetic vision, Ateliers deMonaco presents for Baselworld a new exclusive version of its most emblematic model, the Tourbillon Oculus - a masterpiece of precision watchmaking.

The number 1297 of the Tourbillon Oculus pays a tribute to the ascent of the Grimaldi Family in the year 1297. When Francois Grimaldi seized the fortress of Monaco from a rival Italian faction. Disguised as a monk, he successfully led a small army into the fortress. The legacy of his daring victory is recorded on Monaco's coat of arms, which bears two monks brandishing swords with the lozenge pattern in the middle. The iconic and distinctive form of Ateliers deMonaco.

Reinterpretation and high-innovation are the two words that governed the creation of the Tourbillon Oculus 1297. Characterized by its modern look, with its off-centered dial at 12 o’clock and its dial aperture with the tourbillon at 6 o’clock; this new timepiece is pure perfection.

Within the titanium case of 44mm, a fusion takes place between the technical mastery involved in producing watchmaking complications and the high aesthetic standards and virtuosity required in jewellery making. Indeed, the Tourbillon Oculus 1297 has a beautiful royal blue dial which has been embellished with relief lozenges.

This particular enhancement of the dial is made using a 5-axis laser machine, an advanced technology which firstly heats and secondly melts the material to sublime it.
The overall finish of the dial gives a voluptuous play of brilliance, which underlines the elegance of the Tourbillon Oculus 1297.

Inserted into the upper part of the dial, the hours and minutes counter is a lovely embodiment of classical codes featuring Roman numeral indexes and dauphine shaped hands. The Ateliers deMonaco watchmakers have thus achieved a seamless blend of classicism and modernity in a single watch - offering a timepiece with a highly contrasted and bold design.

Produced and assembled by the Ateliers deMonaco watchmakers in Geneva, the Tourbillon Oculus 1297 is powered by its own in-house patented Tourbillon XP1 movement, which drives the hours, minutes along with the small seconds. With an average tolerance between o-2 seconds per 24 hours this calibre is one of the most accurate tourbillon movement in the world today and bears witness to the Manufacture’s excellence.

The Tourbillon XP1 provides remarkable technical performance and traditional watchmaking know-how with the sapphire tourbillon bridge; the hand engraved 22 carat gold rotor and the silicium escape wheel and lever. The sapphire case back enables the finesse and sophistication of the details of the movement to be observed.

The royal blue alligator leather strap and the titanium-folding buckle add a unique lustre to this exceptional timepiece. The Tourbillon Oculus 1297 also comes with a grey dial fitted either in a rose gold or white gold case. Similar to every masterpiece, each model of the range is limited to only 88 pieces.

Reference 1741 Platinum

Urban Jürgensen is introducing a new model, Reference 1741 Platinum with perpetual calendar, leap year indicator and moon phases. This timepieces showcases an almost forgotten traditional technique called grenage admirably revived by the brand. It is hand-crafted, delicate and time-consuming, but the final result justifies the difficulties in creating such intricate dial finishing.

The hand-made grenage dial is fitted with the white gold applied Arabic numerals. The moon disc involves more than 20 different operations required to create a unique miniature marvel of classic workmanship such as is rarely found in timepieces nowadays. The reference 1741 caliber is based on the P4 in-house movement. The elegant case profile featuring convex and concave curves consists of 3 main parts: the middle fitted with individually soldered teardrop lugs; the top bezel featuring a domed sapphire crystal, and the screw-in back
 equipped with flat sapphire crystal.

About Urban Jürgensen

Our story started in 1745 with the birth in Copenhagen of Jürgen Jürgensen, founder of the watchmaking dynasty that still bears his name. Jürgen’s son, Urban Jürgensen (1776 - 1830), quickly followed in his father’s footsteps. After completing his apprenticeship at such extraordinary watchmakers as Breguet in Paris and Arnold in England, Urban steered the Jürgensen brand to new heights. Urban’s two sons, Jules-Frederik and Louis Urban, then continued the family tradition. Jules studied in Switzerland and moved to Le Locle, while his brother Louis remained in charge of the factory in Copenhagen, giving the company roots in both countries that have been maintained ever since. The innovation and excellence of Jürgensen’s output exerted a tremendous influence on the watchmaking industry of Le Locle and, indeed, the entire Canton of Neuchatel, introducing the latest techniques from around the world. Of course, none of this happened by accident; rather, it has been the product of centuries of commitment and dedication to the arts.

Ulysse Nardin – Grand Deck Marine Tourbilon White Gold Edition

Ulysse Nardin MARINE Chronometer Grand Deck Marine Tourbilon White Gold 44 mm Limited Edition NEW

Pre-BASELWORLD 2016

For over 170 years Ulysse Nardin has been creating some of the most reliable Marine Chronometers in existence.

Welcome aboard ! Cutting edge technology and innovative mechanisms are all aboard this high-precision craft decked out in a nautical-inspired design. On the dial, hand-crafted wood marquetry evokes a ship’s deck, while the time display is original and creative:  a boom pulled by super-strong nanowires indicates the minutes, while the hours are displayed on two concentric disks. The patented device, which is regu-lated by a second barrel, also incorporates a majestic tourbillon. Undeniably exclusive, this timepiece from the Marine Chronometer collection is produced in 18 white gold pieces.

Ulysse Nardin is in its element when venturing on the high seas, as evidenced by this latest creation. In the innovative Grand Deck Marine Tourbillon model, the retrograde minutes display takes the form of a boom. The technology is visually fascinating, and as complex as it is accomplished. Linked to a 60-second flying tourbillon, this patented system is drawn by a super-strong hi-tech fiber that is thinner than a human hair. Impressive all-round, the timepiece showcases breakthrough technology in the unmistakable nautical-themed design of the Marine Chronometer family, of which it displays the legendary traits. The Manufacture, as a pioneer in marine chronometers, has a long and distinguished history of producing high-precision seafaring instruments that have helped conquer the oceans since the 19th century. This collection reinvents these tried-and-tested attributes for the modern era. Centuries of expertise and a tireless spirit of innovation have produced the Grand Deck Marine Tourbillon model, a watch worthy of the high seas.

Full sails

In a proud nod to its maritime roots, the Grand Deck Marine Tourbillon model incorporates the elements of a ship’s deck to display the time in a creative and original manner. The minutes hand is replaced by a boom - the horizontal spar used to angle the head sail. Working like the halyard cord that is used to hoist the sails of a ship, a wire pulls the boom across a graduated arc. The boom jumps back once an hour, its speed regulated by a purpose-designed retrograde mechanism. The mesmerizing leap takes 3 to 4 seconds and can be viewed through the case back. The boom is pulled by a nanowire that measures a mere 0.0357 mm in diameter and is capable of withstanding traction of 1.41 kg without stretching.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                     BIG FOTO

The nanowire is made of polyethylene Dyneema® fiber, a material that is used in ship’s rigging and is many times stronger than steel. In a first for watchmaking, the transmission system loops the wires through a rigging screw: two strands are visible, and a third strand fastens the turnbuckle. The patented system, which is visible on the dial, is exclusive to Ulysse Nardin. Working like the winches that hoist the sails on deck, four ‘pulleys’ use a drive gear, a spiral tensioning spring and two lock pins. The jumping hour is driven by two large concentric disks that turn in real time, and is displayed through a double aperture. A corrector positioned at 2 o’clock can be used to set the time quickly.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                     BIG FOTO

Wind in its sails

The Manufacture’s Caliber UN-630, a 60-second flying tourbillon with manual-winding movement, contains 469 components and oscillates at a frequency of 3 Hz. Despite the considerable power requirements of the boom display, the movement offers optimal precision and a generous power reserve of over 48 hours. A first barrel is devoted to the time-telling mechanism; a second barrel supplies power to the complication, i.e. to the display of hours and minutes.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                     BIG FOTO

The latter device is regulated by a specific escapement that collects information from the time-telling mechanism. The double-barrel design (one for the movement and another for the display) prevents the complication from interfering with the workings of the watch. To the rear of the movement, the leading and unloading of the balance spring can be viewed through the skeletonized barrels, a feature that is both functional and fascinating. When the watch is wound, the spring winds up into the center of the barrel. Conversely, when the spring is spent it unwinds out towards the edge of the barrel.

All aboard !

This compact example of mechanical ingenuity is housed in a white-gold case measuring 44 mm in diameter and water-resistant to 100 meters. The dial of the Grand Deck Marine Tourbillon conjures a ship’s aesthetic and technical finesse. The fluted bezel is complimented by a screw-down crown with blue rubber molding. Hand-crafted marquetry evokes the sun-soaked teak of a ship's bridge. The blued-aluminum boom sweeps across a translucent arc of blue spinel that extends from 3 o’clock to 9 o’clock.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                     BIG FOTO

The boom is drawn by a wire connected to four pulleys secured with blued star-shaped screws, which are echoed by the tourbillon decorated with the Ulysse Nardin anchor. In a final flourish, border detailing and ornamental wires that adorn the top of the dial offer further subtle references to nautical design. In the signature of the Marine Chronometer collection, the Ulysse Nardin logo, placed between two floating maritime symbols that correspond to the letters U and N, echoes the design of the ship’s chronometers that were historically produced by the Manufacture.

This timepiece is exclusive by nature, available in a limited edition of 18 pieces on an alligator strap with a white-gold folding buckle.
