ORIS - Hirondelle Limited Edition

ORIS - Hirondelle Limited Edition NEW

To commemorate the historic Hirondelle steam ship, the first to be built entirely in Switzerland and which infamously sank into the waters of Lake Geneva in 1862; Swiss watch brand Oris is launching 151 pieces of the Oris Hirondelle Limited Edition.

The Hirondelle paddle steamer was launched in Ouchy, Lake Geneva in 1855. It was the first steam boat entirely built in Switzerland and also the largest in the country at the time. On June 10th, 1862 the Hirondelle hit an underwater rock at the edge of the fairway of Becque-de-Peilz in Lake Geneva.

Fortunately all 350 passengers survived, but the ship sank fully following a strong storm on July 30, 1862. One hundred and four years later, in 1966, a highly skilled team of enthusiastic divers found the Hirondelle wreckage. A ship of great importance to Swiss culture, Oris has produced the Oris Hirondelle timepiece, limited to just 151 pieces in remembrance of every year that has passed since its historic sinking.

The Oris Hirondelle Limited Edition features subtle hints of the ship's past. Inspired by the Hirondelle's throttle gauge, a power reserve indication disc, including replica throttle markings “FULL” - “HALF” - “DEAD”, adorns the watch. The sleek black dial features wave detailing and applied indices filled with Super-LumiNova. Its titanium case has gunmetal-grey PVD coating and the top ring boasts Tungsten inlay. The timepiece includes a patent 'rotation safety system' for the timer top ring. The case back also shows the Hirondelle near Montreux with Dents du Midi Mountains in the background.

The Oris Hirondelle Limited Edition has been expertly designed to commemorate the historic tale of the SS Hirondelle and it is a perfect instrument for experienced divers to go on a mission and visit the Hirondelle underwater memorial.

Parmigiani Fleurier - Tonda TONDAGRAPHE Tourbillon

Parmigiani Fleurier - Tonda TONDAGRAPHE Tourbillon NEW

Incorporated  in Parmigiani Fleurier's Haute Horlogerie collection in 2009, the Tondagraphe celebrated two major new features: a grand complication combining a chronograph and a tourbillon at six o'clock, housed in an elegant white gold case, in the Swiss brand's trademark style.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Following on from its success, Parmigiani Fleurier is reissuing this model in two editions limited to ten pieces, and is offering a new 2013 version in step with its time.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Combining the hypnotic beauty of the tourbillon with the technical prowess of the chronograph, this model is brought to life by a manufacture calibre which boasts a 72-hour power reserve.
The PF 354 comprises 295 components and reflects the unfailingly excellent craftsmanship that the artisan creating it must display. The assembly's accuracy and aesthetic is the product of all the manufacture's knowledge.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The bevelling of the two tourbillon bridges alone requires 20 hours of work to achieve the required quality of finish, and the cage will take almost 40 hours. But the tourbillon is the horological complication that requires the greatest skill; its mechanism is the personification of time itself. Standing out perfectly on the dial at 6 o'clock, the cage that encloses the regulating organ turns on its axis at a rate of one rotation a minute: the heart of the watch seems to beat and breathe life into the assembly.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The main aesthetic developments for this model are seen in the style of the dial, which offers a new balance. While it has retained its organisation and the original combination of materials, it demonstrates a desire for clarity and a return to the essential. The inclusion of new understated and elegant Parmigiani numerals makes it easy to read, while the two second and minute chronometer counters stand opposite each other in the centre of the dial. At 12 o'clock, the power reserve also boasts this same spirit and echoes the decorations on the tourbillon. The wearer can admire the bevelling of its bridge, and the perlage work on the barrel. True to the same style codes and quality of finish, these functions are showcased by a snailed circular dial, which is both fresh and dynamic.

The Tondagraphe is available in two versions, one with a black dial and the other with a white dial. This model complements the new contemporary faces that Parmigiani Fleurier wishes to bring to Haute Horlogerie.

Peter Tanisman - Chronograph Marine

Peter Tanisman - Marine Chronograph NEW

Swiss luxury watch maker Peter Tanisman unveils the new model Chronograph Marine, a modern and audacious chronograph timepiece designed for men. The refined 49.40 mm gold case, set with a characteristic bezel carries an automatic Swiss movement in its heart.

Repeated throughout the watch, the stylized wave highlights the bezel with handmade variations of polished and matte surfaces. The ocean blue dial is eye catching, thanks to hollowed hands, each set with a fluorescent tube on its filled end. These tubes, with self-luminous gas, also found under the dial, allow a gentle diffusion of light in the watch. Visible through wave openings on the case’s side, the movement is held by a ring of sapphire crystal; also sealing the watch.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The power reserve of 42 hours, including the display, located at 3 o’clock evokes a shell. White when the reserve is full, it gradually reveals a red segment, indicating the decline of autonomy. The date is displayed separately in a window at 6 o’clock, displays of small seconds and minutes are respectively at 9 and 12. This watch is available with a rubber strap, matching the color of the dial and wears the brand logo. Reinforced with two red gold inserts, the bracelet closes with an adjustable butterfly clasp in red gold.

A great range from which to choose

Another variation sees the watch offered with a black PVD case and matching black fabric strap. The next model on offer is the GR4FBS6. This watch features a black PVD case, a military green 60 minutes dial and contrasting beige-coloured, luminous minute indexes and hands.

CORUM - Admiral's Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph

CORUM - Admiral's Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph NEW

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..

A sophisticated new design for a flagship collection

Inspired by its nautical origins, the Admiral’s Cup collection welcomes a new line resolutely anchored in the contemporary era: AC-One. Sailing onto the scene with an innovative case developed by Corum, this newcomer cut out for great achievements asserts an eminently virile style that makes it a must-have on the contemporary watch scene. Spotlight on the Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph, an accessible mechanical model combining power, elegance and performance.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..

With the launch of the AC-One line, Corum is writing a new chapter in the history of its iconic Admiral’s Cup born in 1960. While its lines have been redesigned, the identity codes that have forged the legend of this horological icon have been jealously safeguarded. The bezel of the Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph takes the original twelve-sided shape, while the 45 mm-diameter case is more strongly rounded than ever, within an integrated structure combining polished and satin-brushed finishes.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..

The construction is built on several layers, with black PVD-coated titanium inlays alternating between the back and the middle and then between the bezel and the middle, in a perfectly mastered play on volumes. The slimmer technical, contemporary case made of grade 5 titanium houses the automatic CO 132 chronograph caliber, also powering a date display.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..

The movement revealed through the sapphire crystal caseback features an original openworked and black PVD-coated oscillating weight. The latter’s circular shape occupies the entire surface of the caseback opening and proudly proclaims its contemporary nature.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..      BIG FOTO

Stemming from lengthy aesthetic research conducted in-house, the Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph highlights an innovative and exclusive split pomegranate dial motif. Composed of tiny diagonally incised squares creating a raised pattern accentuated by the inner bezel ring bearing the famous nautical pennants, the unmistakable signature of the Admiral’s Cup collection. Like the openworked and faceted hands, the applied hour- markers are coated with beige Superluminova, while the chronograph sweep-seconds hand bears the iconic Corum key.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..

Sporty, powerful and water-resistant to 300 meters, the Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph offers an appealing set of performances. Fitted with an crocodile leather strap or a grade 5 titanium bracelet fastened by a triple folding clasp, this model is interpreted in different versions. It comes in a two-tone interpretation when its titanium case – whether black PVD-coated or not – is topped by an 5N 18kt red gold bezel, or else opts for an all- titanium construction.

Girard-Perregaux - Chrono Hawk Only Watch

Girard-Perregaux Chrono Hawk Only Watch Edgy design and watchmaking expertise to support Duchenne muscular dystrophy research

11th June 2013, Swiss luxury watchmaker, Girard-Perregaux, is once again mobilizing to support Only Watch. The Principality of Monaco will be hosting on September 28th the fifth edition of this exceptional “Only Watch” charity timepiece auction benefiting research for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. In order to support their efforts, Girard-Perregaux has designed a unique piece of its new sport collection, Chrono Hawk. This exclusive timepiece combines elegance, audacity and watch making expertise blending matt black ceramics with white silvery palladium.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...        BIG FOTO

Sporty. Elegant. Modern. The Chrono Hawk Only Watch leaves nothing to chance, neither the design of its case, which associates bold edges and a round bezel, nor its face, which gives prominence to the measurement of short times. Its meticulous style, combining centuries of manufacturing tradition with a permanent commitment to innovation, is apparent in every detail of the design and manufacture of this watch.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..   . BIG FOTO

Contemporary and bold, the style blends ceramic and palladium. Deep black and silvery-white and yet perfectly functional, the elements of the case blend into one another, while keeping their individual strengths to end up accentuating the watch’s architecture.

The well-balanced dial showcases the time data. Two red counters face each other in perfect symmetry at 9 and 3 o’clock, while the date is placed at 6 o’clock. The applied hour markers and the hour and minute hands are lit with luminescent material. This classic layout is complemented with a motif inspired by the famous Girard-Perregaux Bridge.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..      BIG FOTO

The character of the Chrono Hawk Only Watch is finally emphasized by its original alligator strap, with rubber lining and red stitches.

Visible through the case’s sapphire back, the caliber GP03300, a self-winding mechanical movement, drives this very high.

A. Lange & Söhne - Black Magic Collection 2013

A. Lange & Söhne -   Black Magic   Collection 2013

Facets of the colour black (from left): GRAND LANGE 1, GRAND LANGE 1 “Lumen”, DATOGRAPH UP/DOWN, LANGE ZEITWERK “Luminous”, LANGE ZEITWERK

The classic colour for festive occasions has triggered many a revolution – in the realms of fashion or art, for instance. But black can have many other meanings and functions. Five black timepieces by A. Lange & Söhne juxtapose with black objects to showcase the fascinating facets of the darkest of all colours.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...          BIG FOTO

Black discs: Vinyl records are experiencing a renaissance. For music enthusiasts, what counts is not the haptic experience of the black round with its large cover and liner notes. It’s the mechanical sampling of the spiral groove that creates a richly detailed, three-dimensional soundscape as in a concert hall. In the model DATOGRAPH UP/DOWN, the aesthetic thrill lies not only in the relief structure of the fine azuré grooves on the bright subsidiary dials. Lange’s calibre L951.6 ranks among connoisseurs as the technically most advanced and beautiful chronograph movement

In 1915, a black square with a side length of 79 cm launched a revolution in the art world. Eleven years after Kazimir Malevich’s foray into avant-garde art, the little black dress by Coco Chanel caused an éclat in the realm of fashion. It was dubbed “the uniform for all women of taste” and is still referred to that way. The examples illustrate: black has the potential for icon status. It is a designer’s favourite colour because it highlights the pure underlying form. Equally, it can have a technical function. Photographers prefer black cameras because they produce no reflections. And in a wristwatch, a black dial combined with bright markers or luminous displays assures high contrast and good legibility.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...          BIG FOTO

Black and white: The camera in the background is reminiscent of the many pioneering mechanical accomp-lishments that originated in Saxony. The first camera for 35-mm perforated film was built here in 1932. It was followed four years later by the world’s first single-lens reflex camera. Exposure times as short as a thousandth of a second gave rise to masterpieces in black-and-white photography. The digital display of the model LANGE ZEITWERK also switches in fractions of a second with a gentle click. A patented constant-force escapement makes this possible.

In the dialogue with hand-picked black objects, A. Lange & Söhne timepieces present both sides of the darkest of all colours – the aesthetic one and the technical one: More about that at our photos.

About A. Lange & Söhne

When Ferdinand A. Lange, a Dresden watchmaker, established his watch manufactory in 1845, he laid the cornerstone of Saxony’s precision watchmaking. His precious pocket watches remain highly coveted among collectors all over the world. The company was expropriated after World War II, and the name A. Lange & Söhne nearly fell into oblivion. In 1990, Ferdinand A. Lange’s great-grandson Walter Lange had the courage to relaunch the brand. Today, Lange crafts only a few thousand wristwatches in gold or platinum per year. They are endowed exclusively with proprietary movements that are lavishly decorated and assembled by hand. In a period of little more than 20 years, A. Lange & Söhne developed over 40 manufacture calibres and secured a top-tier position among the world’s finest watch brands. Its greatest successes include innovative time-keeping instruments such as the LANGE 1 with the first outsize date in a series produced wristwatch as well as the LANGE ZEITWERK with its supremely legible, precisely jumping numerals. Meanwhile, both models have become icons of a brand rich in tradition.

Black on black: The history of ink, which began 5000 years ago in Egypt, is the quest for the most contrast-rich colour with the best opacity. Ink with black pigments comes closest to this ideal. Today, nanotechnology can take credit for a “Super Black” that absorbs 99.6 per cent of the light. Against such a background, the luminous outsize date of the GRAND LANGE 1 “Lumen” would shine as brightly as the celestial canopy above the Atacama Desert.

Black wins: Beneath the black dial of the model GRAND LANGE 1 in a noble white-gold case, the L095.2 manufacture calibre parades the ultimate in artisanship. Just like the king in chess. Skilfully crafted by a master of the trade, the figure was inspired by the filigreed woodturning works by Egidius Lobenigk and Georg Wecker in the 16th century that can still be admired in the Green Vault museum in Dresden.
