OFFICINE PANERAI – PAM531 Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT 24H

OFFICINE PANERAIPAM531 Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT 24H Automatic ACCIAIO – 44mm NEW

Designed particularly for those who travel, the Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT 24H is a new watch from Officine Panerai with the GMT 24H function. As well as local time, this enables the time in a second time zone to be read simultaneously by means of an independent central hand which makes one revolution of the dial in 24 hours. GMT is short for Greenwich Mean Time, the time at the Greenwich Royal Observatory, which is the universal reference point for calculating time zones.

The Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT 24H is the first watch from Officine Panerai to adopt a new manufacture movement, the automatic P.9003 calibre. This is a development of the P.9001 calibre, with which it has many useful functions and excellent features in common. The main innovation relates to the GMT function, which is indicated over 24 hours instead of 12 hours; it also has a newly designed circular power reserve indicator on the back of the watch, which is very visible and easy to read through the sapphire crystal in the caseback.

 Panerai P.9003 calibre

The power reserve is three days, achieved by two spring barrels connected in series, and the oscillating mass rotates in both directions, making the automatic winding mechanism very efficient. In terms of regulation, the hour hand – connected to the date – can be moved independently and in jumps of one hour, without interfering with the minute and seconds hands; equally, when setting the time the device which stops the balance and zeroes the seconds hand comes into operation, so that the time can be exactly synchronised with a reference signal.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...             BIG FOTO

The GMT 24H function is also evident in the design of the black dial: as well as the classic markers for reading the local time, the outermost part of the dial carries the figures for reading the second time zone, indicated by the hand with an arrow.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...             BIG FOTO

The clarity and legibility of the dial, which also contains the date window and the small seconds counter at nine o’clock, are ensured in the poorest lighting conditions by its sandwich structure: the luminous substance is contained between two discs and shines through holes in the upper one corresponding to the markers. This type of construction has been used by Panerai watches since the 1930s and confirmed over the years as a distinctive mark of the Florentine brand.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...             BIG FOTO

Another iconic element of the brand is the device protecting the winding crown with the locking leaver, revived in the Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT 24H in its most classic version: it is made of brushed steel contrasting with the polished steel of the case. The Luminor 1950 case 44 mm is AISI 316L steel, which is stainless with a low carbon content and particularly resistant to corrosion.

Water-resistant to 30 atmospheres (a depth of about 300 metres ), the Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT 24H is fitted with a black leather strap with ecru stitching. It is supplied with a spare rubber strap, a steel screwdriver and the tool for replacing the strap, an operation that is simply carried out thanks to the push-pieces in the lugs.

Longines – Conquest Heritage 1954-2014 Collection

LONGINES Conquest HERITAGE 1954-2014 Collection Limited Edition NEW

1954 – 2014: Longines celebrates the 60th anniversary of its Conquest line

This year, Longines celebrates the 60th anniversary of the filing of the patent for its "Conquest" brand. To mark this occasion, the Swiss watch company is launching its Conquest Heritage 1954-2014, a selection of timepieces based directly on the very first Conquest watches. Available in steel, yellow gold or rose gold, these numbered models, issued in limited series, boast the same dials that made the name "Conquest" famous among the general public. And just like the original versions, the case back of these commemorative pieces is decorated with a gold and enamel medallion, the "gold seal of Longines quality".

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...          BIG FOTO

On 5 May 1954, Longines registered the name "Conquest" with the Swiss Federal Intellectual Property Office. Appreciated as much for their precision as for their design, the first pieces in this line immediately won the hearts of the general public. The name Conquest was soon associated with timing great feats, notably for calculating the speed record for crossing the Atlantic. Sporty and yet elegant, the Conquest models underline the importance of living life to the full and making the best of one's time.

To mark the 60th anniversary of the registration of the Conquest name, Longines has now brought out its Conquest Heritage 1954-2014 line of commemorative watches. The word "Conquest" is inscribed on the dials in the original typeface as a reminder of those watches that have survived through the ages and retained their contemporary and classical beauty.

The first version, available in steel, yellow gold or rose gold, has the same silvered dial decorated with a sun-burst motif as the very first Conquest model dating from 1954. The second version in yellow gold is fitted with a gilded dial. This model is a reinterpretation of one that was presented at the time as "the new jewel in the proud Conquest line".

As with the original models, the case back of these re-issues is decorated with a gold and enamel medallion. This distinctive feature – the "gold seal of Longines quality" – was a guarantee of quality specific to the original Conquest line. There are two versions of the medallion: that used for the models in gold is in the form of a constellation and that used for the models in steel represents a fish. Fitted on a black alligator strap, the Conquest Heritage 1954-2014 models are all numbered. The exclusive versions in gold are limited to 60 pieces only and the series of steel models is limited to 600 pieces only.

Maîtres du Temps – CHAPTER ONE Tonneau Transparence Titanium

Maîtres du TempsCHAPTER ONE Tonneau Transparence Titanium
C1-3T Limited Edition NEW

Introduction:
“He ran his fingertip along the upper side of the case of his Chapter One Transparence Titanium watch, admiring the profile of its shape. In spite of the hardness of the metal, the touch was soft and smooth. It made him recall the old English car with which his father drove him to Southern Italy during Summer time. He positioned the watch on his wrist and admired the complexity of the movement visible through the transparence of the dial. He continued his way. Everything seemed calm and quiet. Everything was just perfect….”

Maîtres du Temps, Atelier of Horology, presents in preview of the Baselworld 2014 the Chapter One Tonneau Transparence Titanium: C1-3T.
Barely visible to the naked eye, the sapphire crystal replaces the dial revealing the handiwork of the master watchmaker: impeccably finished bridges, precisely beveled edges, and a symphony of mechanical complexity. The Transparence Titanium, presented here in a limited edition of 11 pieces, unveils the heart and soul of a rare timepiece with an outstanding personality.

Collection Chapter One: elegance and complexity
The Chapter One collection is a real masterpiece of horology. The long and flowing curves that shape the case give it an air of nobility and power that embodies the outstanding complexity of the original movement.
The ease of reading and setting the numerous display indications of Chapter One would almost make the user forget that we are facing a world’s premiere in terms of combinations of complications with 558 components.

A world’s premiere: combinations of six complications
No wristwatch before Chapter One has ever featured a tourbillon movement incorporating a mono-pusher column wheel chronograph, retrograde date, retrograde GMT, and phase of the moon and day of the week indications displayed on their own distinctive high-precision cylinders .

Indication through high-precision cylinders: time display is not flat any longer
Efficiently transmitting power 90° to the two high-precision cylinders  and ensuring that they work simultaneously with the time, date, GMT, and chronograph was an immense technical challenge. That the challenge was met and surpassed is further testament to the immense talent of the teams of the Maîtres du Temps Atelier of Horology.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

The harmoniously integrated cylinders , for example, had to be both large enough to be easily read and small enough to be ultralight and homogeneous with the case. Scintillating, laser-pierced moon and stars on the outer cylinder  of the moon phase indication add to the stellar elegance of Chapter One.
The high-precision cylinders  are made of anodized aluminum offering solidity while being  lightweight. The painting adorning the cylinders  is applied by hand based on a traditional process.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

Titanium case: strength and lightness
It is not surprising that the three-dimensional, arched and bold design of the Chapter One evokes more a sports car than a wristwatch.
The different finishes obtained through successive brushings on the titanium material strengthen this appeal. Polished, satin or sanded finish, all the case surfaces benefit from a specific surface treatment. This feat is even more outstanding as the hardness of the material makes any surface treatment a challenge. As a comparison, the decoration of this titanium case requires twice the time of a similar gold version.
The curves of the four correctors integrating a locking system follow a curved line ending in an imaginary spot in order to perfectly marry the elegant design of the case. Manufactured in 18K gold, they incorporate 14 different components and were developed exclusively for Chapter One.
The case back screws are also manufactured of 18K gold.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

The Transparence of the sapphire dial
The sapphire dial designed for Transparence is a work of art and an example of the highest level precision engineering. The 0.40 mm, ultrathin high-tech sapphire dial is cut and precisely laser-pierced more than twenty times to provide holes for the anchors to securely fasten the appliqués that mark the passage of time. The fastidious process of machining the multi-beveled minute track, which includes hand-painted Super-LumiNova indices, illustrates that the level of detail in Chapter One Tonneau Transparence Titanium is not just limited to the movement.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

While the meticulous process of fitting the tourbillon cage to the fine, nearly invisible dial is reserved for only the most accomplished of watchmakers who dare to take on such a complicated assembly, the result is an extremely legible timepiece with a breathtaking view into mechanical mastery.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

A  look at the dial shows in the center; the hour, minute and chronograph 60 second hand, the retrograde date at 3h, the tourbillon and the day of the week cylinder  at 6h, the retrograde second time zone (GMT) at 9h, the 60 minutes chronograph counter and the moon phase cylinder  at 12h.

The opening at 6h allows a unique view onto the superb finish of the tourbillon cage with its finely decorated M shaped cage bridge standing for Maîtres du Temps. The tourbillon cage makes one rotation in sixty seconds showing the motion of the elapsing time

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

The Chronograph Bridge in precious metal finish
Equally notable is the addition of the precious metal finish chronograph bridge visible through the octagonal sapphire display back. Through a patented plating process, four precious metals belonging to the platinum family — platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, and palladium — combine to give the chronograph bridge the darkened appearance unique to the Chapter One Transparence collection.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

The Chapter One collection is an enduring beacon of ingenuity and architectural form. As sublime as it is complex, the original tonneau case put the industry on notice to a new standard of excellence. The Chapter One Tonneau Transparence TitaniumC1-3T – in a very contemporary design proudly reveals the technical prowess of the collection.
Maîtres du Temps continues to diversify the Chapter One collection by offering timepieces with sophisticated design and technical mastery. This latest titanium tonneau-case version offers a sculptured structural feel with distinguished technical features,” says Steven Holtzman, founder of Maîtres du Temps.

The One of 11 elegantly engraved at the back of each timepiece highlights the limitation of this exclusive series.
And the story of Chapter One continues . . .
