EBERHARD & CO. – CONTOGRAF Chronograph

EBERHARD & CO. CONTOGRAF Chronograph Edition NEW

TRIBUTE TO CONTOGRAF - 1960s

On the occasion of the prestigious Baselworld 2014 exhibition Eberhard & Co. presents the world preview of the new Contograf, re-edition of the 1960’s Brand’s creation of the same name, emblem of its era thanks to its innovative features.

The company, which bears the name of the founding watchmaker, Georges Eberhard, was created in 1887.

This makes it one of the oldest companies which in La-Chaux-de-Fonds, a small village in the Swiss Canton of Neuchâtel, invented the craft of watchmaking, established its criteria and spread its values.

To preserve the memory and to offer today’s enthusiasts the chance to wear one of these historic timepieces, Eberhard has started revisiting various points on its long adventure by relaunching some of the milestone timepieces from its past.

One of them is the Extra-fort, reissued to celebrate one of the classic chronographs from the 1940s - protagonist of several international auctions - which has now become one of the company’s best-selling models. The next chapter will be told by the Tribute to Contograf, contemporary interpretation of a creation from the 1960’s.

An era of optimism, lively creativity and innovation, and also of growing wealth which, among other things, allowed more people to buy fine objects which until then had been considered a privilege for the few, mechanical watches from Switzerland.

The 1960’s Contograf boasted some very innovative characteristics, in the pure style of a watchmaker which has always been ahead of its time. It was a precision chronograph with two counters and a large date window at the 6 o’clock position, featuring a fast-changing date, something of a revolution at the time.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

This feature and its waterproof buttons made it a piece for everyday use, helping promote the view of a watch as an indispensable accessory. One interesting element was the minute counter, divided into three units and designed to measure the duration of a telephone call, at a time when long-distance or even international calls were undertaken with a degree of caution...

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...            BIG FOTO

Most of these original features have been maintained in the new 2014 edition, but there is no shortage of innovative details: the new ceramic bezel with unidirectional rotation serves as a frame for the tachymeter scale inspired by automotive design.

The caseback is screwd-in like in the original version and contains the inscription “Tribute to Contograf - 1960s”.

The date window at 6 o’clock has kept its particular trapezoidal shape. The innovations include the new metallic bracelet Chassis and an original black leather strap with a “red arrow” embroidered detail . The deployment buckle Déclic (Patented) is available as an accessory.

The 8147 calibre (base ETA 7750 13¼) guarantees the reliability and precision that have made Eberhard & Co. one of the points of reference for mechanical chronographs.

GIRARD-PERREGAUX – Chrono Hawk Pink Gold

GIRARD-PERREGAUX – Chrono Hawk Pink Gold NEW

Girard-Perregaux’s expertise in manufacturing watches, adds a new addition to the Hawk collection. The note worthy new ambassador boasts a powerful, technical chronograph with a pink gold case, and is reinforced with ceramic and rubber components.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...            BIG FOTO

The angular, sculptural cases that characterize the timepieces in the Hawk collection have forged the reputation of this sporty and contemporary line. Respecting these stylistic canons to the tee, the design of the new Chrono Hawk Pink Gold marries the sumptuousness of precious metal with the technical sophistication of black ceramic and rubber. A case that is both luxurious and innovative presents a polychrome face in which the intensity of the dark components heightens the warmth of the gold. In the same spirit it embraces the novel combinations, with the high-tech rubber strapped encased with alligator.

The case is made up of 62 different parts and demands a high degree of skill to produce. With a frame fashioned from satin-finished pink gold and measuring 44 mm in diameter, it serves as the basic structure that incorporates the other parts, starting with those made of ceramic and rubber. The ceramic is extremely resistant to wear and tear with a Vickers hardness of 1,400. It is composed of micrograins with a diameter of 0.2 microns, compressed at very high pressure. Because it is scratch-proof, ceramic is used for the bezel, in particular, but also the chronograph push piece parts, including the push piece protectors and the crown.

The dial of the Chrono Hawk Pink Gold displays a motif inspired by the shape of the famous Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon Bridges. It is encircled by a three-dimensional flange graduated with the minutes scale and showcases the indexes striped with bands of luminescent material to enable night reading. The hands are also visible in the dark. The small seconds are viewed on a subdial at 3 o'clock, while the chronograph functions are displayed via a central direct-drive seconds hand and a subdial at 9 o'clock for the minutes. An aperture at 6 o'clock shows the date.

The Chrono Hawk Pink Gold houses a GP03300 self-winding Manufacture movement with 431 components. Its arrow-shaped oscillating weight and the decorative finishes on the movement can be admired through a sapphire crystal case-back, which is itself engraved and secured with screws. This latest version of the Hawk is water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters and has a strap with a folding buckle.

IWC – PILOTS Watch Double Chronograph Edition “Patrouille Suisse”

IWC PILOTS Watch Double Chronograph Edition Patrouille SuisseNEW

Schaffhausen, 27 May 2014 – This year sees the launch of a special edition from IWC Schaffhausen that honours the fabulous flying skills of the Swiss aerobatic squadron. For fifty years, Patrouille Suisse pilots have acted as airborne ambassadors to Switzerland, demonstrating unmatched precision and perfection far beyond the country’s borders. Watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen, which has made Pilot’s Watches since 1936, dedicates the Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Edition Patrouille Suisse” to the flying aces of the Swiss Air Force. The special edition of this watch classic is limited to 250.

“Both our Pilot’s Watches and the Patrouille Suisse team stand for Swiss precision and technical perfection,” explains Linus Fuchs, Managing Director Switzerland of IWC Schaffhausen. “Our shared values and passion for flying inspired a special limited edition designed to be a fitting tribute to the excellence of these outstanding pilots,” continues Fuchs.

FUNCTIONALITY FOR THE COCKPIT

The Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Edition Patrouille Suisse features a cockpit design with coloured highlights. Mirroring the functionality of flight instruments, the displays are generously sized and clearly laid out. The hands and indices have a white luminescent coating that guarantees high legibility. The optics of this decidedly masculine timepiece are rounded off by an attractive shot-blasted stainless-steel case and a black soft strap with back-stitching.
An altimeter-shaped date display further underscores the instrument-inspired look. Three signal red elements provide highlights: the small red seconds hand, which indicates normal running; the red stopwatch seconds hand; and the small triangle on the triple date display. Another eye-catching feature is the third push-button at “10 o’clock”. This can be used to stop the split-seconds hand at any time and then pressed again to resynchronize it with the stopwatch seconds hand, making it ideal for timing laps or intermediate times.

PROFESSIONAL INSTRUMENTS FOR PILOTS

With a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields and a sapphire glass secured against sudden falls in pressure, the watch has all the credentials of a watch designed for flying. The 46-millimetre stainless-steel case of the Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Edition “Patrouille Suisse is water-resistant to 6 bar and houses a rugged 79230 - calibre self-winding chronograph movement. The movement permits the recording of single and aggregate times up to 12 hours and has a power reserve of 44 hours.

The case back is decorated with an engraving of three jet fighters that allude to the Northrop F-5E Tiger II, in which Patrouille Suisse pilots fly tightly knit formations at speeds of up to 1000 kph. The inscription “TRIBUTE TO PATROUILLE SUISSE” and the consecutive numbering (1/250, 2/250 etc.) indicate the special limited edition. The Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Edition “Patrouille Suisse will be available from May 2014, initially only from IWC Boutiques in Switzerland and Swiss retailers, but later at IWC Boutiques worldwide.

PIONEERS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PILOT’S WATCHES

IWC developed its first Pilot’s Watch almost 80 years ago. In 1936, the so-called Special Pilot’s Watch started out on a professional mission in the service of pilots. It was designed to withstand the difficult conditions encountered in the cockpit of aircraft at that time. The Schaffhausen - based manufacturer’s passion spurred its engineers and watchmakers on to ever-greater technical achievement. Today, IWC’s Pilot’s Watches are very popular and elegantly combine modern technology with traditional values.

In 2015, the S3 company (Swiss Space Systems) will be organizing its first weightless ZeroG flights to a broad public. As the main partner in this project, Breitling will equip passengers with an exclusive chronograph specially designed for this experience. Registration is now open!

In 1962, Breitling made its maiden weightless flight on the wrist of Scott Carpenter with a Navitimer Cosmonaute – the first space-traveling wrist chronograph. The brand with the winged B is now the main sponsor of the Swiss project S3 (Swiss Space Systems), of which the avowed aim is “space for all”. For this purpose, S3 has notably set up a program of weightless flights.

The ZeroG project will begin in 2015 in over 15 locations around the world, including Asia, the Middle East and Central America. These flights of around two hours aboard an Airbus will each include 15 “parabolas” or free floats lasting between 20 to 25 seconds and providing a chance to experience total weightlessness by floating as if in space.

Passengers’ equipment will include a Breitling chronograph specially created for the occasion. Equipped with a light and sturdy black titanium case and a SuperQuartz™ movement (ten times more accurate than standard quartz), this S3 ZeroG chronograph is distinguished by its S3 logo appearing on the dial and the rubber strap, as well as by its caseback engraving depicting a parabolic flight.

It will serve as a boarding card for passengers and will not be commercialized outside this flight program. Along with their flight suit, the lucky partakers in the ZeroG experience will be entitled to keep this authentic high-performance and functional instrument for professionals, water-resistant to 100 meters, as mementoes representing the equipment having accompanied them during this unique and unforgettable moment.

TAG HEUER – CARRERA Calibre 1887 Chronograph Monaco Grand Prix

TAG HEUERCARRERA Calibre 1887 Chronograph Monaco Grand Prix Limited Edition NEW

TAG HEUER & MONACO
TIME CHANGERS, RACING PIONEERS

Last Saturday, May 24, on the eve of the most glamorous race in motorsports, TAG Heuer hosted its annual VIP party aboard a towering luxury yacht in the brand colours at anchor in the port of Monaco, with the full squad of its longstanding Formula One racing partner, McLaren Mercedes, in attendance. During Sunday’s race, on a racetrack festooned with TAG Heuer banners, a star-studded roster of celebrity and racing Brand Ambassadors enjoyed an unrivalled view of the proceedings from inside TAG Heuer’s private box.

However, the high-visibility partnership of TAG Heuer, the world leader in prestigious Swiss chronographs, with the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM), the governing body of the iconic Grand Prix event, runs deep beneath the glamour, and is based on shared values and commitments.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ..            BIG FOTO

TAG HEUER & ACM: TWO TIME - CHANGING PIONEERS
In 1911, ACM launched the Rallye de Monte-Carlo, the first event gathering drivers from all across Europe, at once to prove that steam or gas powered vehicles could successfully cross the continent in winter, and to showcase the final destination, the famous casino capital of Monte Carlo. That same year, TAG Heuer patented Time of Trip, the first 12-hour dashboard chronograph for cars and aircrafts. In 1916, Heuer unveiled another time-changing breakthrough: the first stopwatch accurate to 1/100th of a second. In 1929, ACM pioneered the first Formula 1 Grand Prix within a city centre; and 70 years later it organised the first clean-energy rally.
Today, the TAG Heuer and ACM partnership includes the alternative propulsion 15th Rallye de Monte Carlo des Energies Nouvelles in March 2014.
This May, however, all focus is on the key event of the racing season, the Grand Prix de MonacoTAG Heuer’s 499th Grand Prix with its longtime partner McLaren Mercedes. The storied event  gives TAG Heuer a new opportunity to assert, once again, its status as the Swiss watch brand of record in Formula One.

TAG Heuer, the watch brand with the longest-standing legitimacy and legacy in F1 Motor Racing

The first watch brand to sponsor a professional driver — Jo Siffert, 1969.
The brand whose colours, crest and watch co-starred with the great
Steve McQueen in Le Mans, 1971.
The first watch brand to partner with a Grand Prix team — Scuderia Ferrari, 1971-1979.
The most-winning watch brand at Monaco (15 victories) as part of the longest-running partnership in Formula One (29 years) with McLaren Mercedes — 1985 to now.
The Official Timekeeper of Formula One, 1992-2003 — 1/1,000 of a second.
The Official Timekeeper of Indy Racing League, 2004-2006 and again in 2014 — 1/10,000 of a second.
The Official Partner of the Monaco Grand Prix with Automobile Club of Monaco (ACM) — 2011 to now.

TAG Heuer: the watch brand that invented the motor-sports chronograph

TAG Heuer forged the original link between race cars and watches, then crafted and perfected it, pushing it to an unprecedented level of luxury prestige.

Through its longstanding links with the best teams, drivers and cars in motor racing, the Swiss brand, the undisputed world leader in luxury sports chronographs, has pushed time and its keeping to dizzying levels of precision — 1/10th, 1/100th, 1/1,000th and 5/10,000th of a second.

TAG Heuer & MONACO: the watch brand and the Automobile Club de Monaco push their partnership to the next level

Every motor racing world champion from Juan Manuel Fangio to Jenson Button has been part of the TAG Heuer legend. So has almost every race in the sport, but none more so than the mythic Monaco Grand Prix, the most prestigious of them all.

The role TAG Heuer plays in Monaco is unparalleled in the Swiss watchmaking world. It has sponsored more first-place Monaco drivers than any brand in history. TAG Heuer ambassadors who have crossed the checkered flag first at Monaco include Niki Lauda, Jody Scheckter, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Mika Häkkinen, David Coulthard, Kimi Räikkönen, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.

In 2011, TAG Heuer and the Automobile Club de Monaco signed a historic agreement making the Swiss brand the ACM’s Official Watch and Chronograph and Eyewear Partner of its most glamorous event: the Grand Prix of Monaco.

TAG HEUER & MONACO 2014: OUT FRONT, SETTING THE PACE

As with all of TAG Heuer’s racing partnerships past and present, TAG Heuer doesn’t just hang its colors on a banner and share in the champagne. Long before the race starts, TAG Heuer is down in the pits and the paddocks, working side by side with the drivers and crews.

CARRERA (43mm) Calibre 1887 Chronograph Monaco Grand Prix Limited Edition

The one and only CARRERA, the first sports chronograph designed for professional drivers and sports-car enthusiasts, is the standard-bearer of TAG Heuer’s unrivaled motorsports heritage. Created by Jack Heuer in 1963 and named after the dangerously grueling “Carrera Panamericana Mexico Road Race”, it was standard issue for Ferrari drivers. In 1970, every member of the 'scuderia' — Jackie Ickx, Clay Regazzoni, Mario Andretti, Carlos Reutemann and Jody Scheckter --  wore a solid gold Carrera engraved with his name and blood type. Since, It has been worn by every TAG Heuer driving great: Alain Prost, David Coulthard, Kimi Räikkönen, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button...

This newest addition to the CARRERA legend is standard issue for McLaren drivers and pays tribute to the Monaco Grand Prix — the race’s name is lettered in red on its ceramic bezel with tachymetre scale, and its official logo is engraved on the sapphire caseback, along with the limited edition number (0001/2,500). Beneath the glass beats TAG Heuer’s 100% in-house manufactured Calibre 1887 movement. The fetching dial is in black, with two grey stripes and a red line.
