Ulysse Nardin – DIVER Chronograph 2019

Ulysse NardinDIVER Chronograph 44 mm 2019

THE NEXT WAVE!
WILL YOU DARE TO CONFRONT
THE LIMITED-EDITION HAMMERHEAD SHARK ATTACK?

NEW DIVER CHRONOGRAPH FLEET PROPELS
THE REVITALIZED ULYSSE NARDIN DIVER COLLECTION.
THE HAMMERHEAD SHARK LIMITED EDITION
IS AT THE TOP OF THE WAVE.

Le Locle, December 9, 2019 - The tide has already come crashing in this winter in Switzerland, bringing with it three brash new models in the Ulysse Nardin DIVER collection. After the November launch of the DIVER X & LADY DIVER, Ulysse Nardin is now emerging with the latest chapter in the DIVER story: three new, bold 44 mm chronographs: a black and titanium version, a UN-blue and rose gold version and a blue & red and titanium Hammerhead Shark special numbered edition. These striking models cap the wave of the Ulysse Nardin armada of DIVER watches, reasserting its uncontestable status as the watchmaker of the oceans and demonstrating the Manufacture’s capacity to sail ever forward.

The loop is looped, we have come full-circle. This is a 360° refreshed DIVER line that will soon emerge in stores. It took us one year to redesign the collection: the DIVER 44mm and the DIVER 42mm were launched in 2018, the DIVER X and the LADY DIVER were launched just last month. Now we’ve come up with three new yet instantly recognizable DIVER CHRONOGRAPHS. All the UN DIVER symbols have been cleverly reworked by our designers and set transversally throughout the entire collection: the pin buckle - just one easily identifiable Ulysse Nardin signature “element” - and of course a rotating, inverted and concave bezel with domed sapphire glass”, says Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Ulysse Nardin.

STOP FOR HAMMERTIME !
DIVER CHRONOGRAPH 44MM HAMMERHEAD SHARK LIMITED EDITION

The hero of the new rollout, placed firmly at the top of the last “DIVER wave”, is the new Hammerhead Shark Limited Edition, a model strong enough to have earned the title “shark-proof”.

Named for the unusual and distinctive structure of their heads, Hammerhead sharks are consummate predators that use their oddly “hammer” shaped heads to improve their ability to find prey. This limited-edition slam-dunk - only 300 pieces - features a hammerhead shark engraved on its case back, a clever nod to its big brothers, the Diver Great White 44mm and the Diver Blue Shark 42mm.

A special grid pattern engraved behind the shark’s wide-open mouth reinforces the aggressivity of the animal for a more stylish and masculine effect. In addition, the shark is now shown frontally and not in profile, for a bold and more assertive look. Embracing the “hammerhead” tradition at Ulysse Nardin – the brand has been developing iconic “blue & red hammerhead editions” for a few years now - this new chronograph is also powered by the UN-150 automatic manufacture movement with a silicium escapement and 48 hours power reserve. Touches of red are everywhere: from the bezel joint, the chronograph seconds hand, the start/stop/reset pushers and finally the rubber strap with a red hammerhead shark sculpted in the rubber at 12 o’clock. The unique side plate is also engraved with red numbers.

DIVER CHRONOGRAPH 44MM, BLACK & TITANIUM

For this model the case, the sapphire case-back, the bezel and the UN “element” are manufactured in titanium with black rubberized bezel. On the watch face, a couple of elements are colorized in red such as the central second hand.

All the essential diver codes are here: ultra-resistant sapphire crystal, screwed crown, Superluminova on the 0, inverted rotating bezel for at-a-glance readability from the murkiest depths, and water resistance to 300 meters. Strap options are variable: rubber strap, metal bracelet or Fabric strap with closing scratch.

DIVER CHRONOGRAPH 44MM, BLUE & ROSE GOLD

For this model, the case, the sapphire case-back, the bezel and the UN “element” are all manufactured in 5N rose gold. The hands, the UN anchor logo and the bezel indexes are also rose gold colored.

Ulysse Nardin – DIVER X Antarctica Titanium Edition

Ulysse NardinDIVER X Antarctica Chronometer Titanium 44mm Limited Edition

TO THE END OF THE EARTH
AN ODE TO ICE

An ode to Sebastian Copeland’s photography of the Earth’s southernmost continent, Ulysse Nardin’s DIVER X ANTARCTICA is a polar symphony of light, ice and an extension of Copeland’s expression of his deep love for the planet.

Paris, November 13, 2019 -Terra Australis, as Antarctica was formerly called - the last continent to be discovered and the Earth’s southernmost, most hostile landmass - has been a source of fascination for explorers, scientists and historians for the two centuries since it was first sighted. A place of mystery and intrigue, the frozen tip of the planet has been fabled destination and source of fascination since Aristotle wrote about a possible Antarctic region in his tome Meteorology circa 350 BC.

In an ode to the essence of exploration and all it entails, Ulysse Nardin has designed the DIVER X ANTARCTICA. An avatar in the world of watchmaking, the ANTARCTICA model of the DIVER X is a watch that brings the “X-factor” to tackle world’s roughest seas - in honor of the modern-day Ulysses who choose to risk exploring this daunting, dangerous place, literally located at the end of the Earth. With its light blue icebergs and frozen ocean, beacons of an age long past, Antarctica has no longitude coordinates, only a location of 90° latitude.

Sebastian Copeland is a photographer who uses his artistic work to communicate messages of urgent global significance. A friend of the Swiss watch manufacture Ulysse Nardin since November 2019 he joined the brand’s armada of modern explorers known as “Team of Ulysses” together with other free-spirited watermen and women: Fred Buyle, Alex Caizergues, Mathieu Crepel, Sebastien Destremau, Ben Thouard and Alessia ZecchiniSebastian’s images have been seen around the world and his books are a reference for modern explorers as well as for those merely curious about the extreme climate; the cold, dry and windblown, least inhabited continent on Earth. On the centennial 2011-2012 season of the South Pole, with partner Eric McNair-Landry, Sebastian spent more than his fair share of time in the field, witnessing this marvel of time untouched firsthand. He led the first East/West transcontinental crossing of Antarctica by skis and kites via two of its poles, setting three world records over the 4100 kilometers during an expedition through the polar desert that lasted a grueling 82 days. Sebastian is planning a new expedition to cross the Arctic Ocean in 2021.

The fruit of Sebastian’s labor has been seen on the National Geographic Channel, CNN, in the New York Times and Paris Match, among others. He is a devoted proponent of environmental conservation and his published books are a living testament to his crusade. “Helping people fall in love with their world,” he says, ”is a catalyst to wanting to save it”.

A polar symphony of light and ice, the Ulysse Nardin Diver X ANTARCTICA is an extension of his deep love and respect for the planet. “Ulysse Nardin is a brand as devoted to our planet’s oceans as I am. I believe that our partnership will bring important benefits to all parties concerned and, hopefully, raise awareness of what we need to do to take better care of this great blue planet.”

DIVER X ANTARCTICA

A matte white rubber strap recalls the clean and austere lines of the Earth’s Southernmost Continent with ice blue touches on the dial reflecting the icebergs floating in the sea there.  The Ulysse Nardin brand element is prominent under the sand-blasted dial. The bezel - in a white rubber - matches the watch strap.

Its UN-118 movement guarantees accuracy in any hemisphere at any time of the day or night.  The gray face is marked with a bold and elegant “X”. The crown, horns and case back are all made from titanium.

The stamp on the back of the watch details not only the coordinates of the Antarctic Continent: 90° latitude (with no longitude necessary for the landmass located at the southernmost tip of the Earth) but also the route of the Vendée Globe sailing race, of which Ulysse Nardin has become the official sponsor.

SEBASTIAN COPELAND
POLAR EXPLORER, PHOTOGRAPHER & ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVIST

Sebastian Copeland is a polar explorer, award winning photographer, author, public speaker and environmental activist. In 2017, Men’s Journal named Sebastian one of 25 of the world’s top adventurers of the last 25 years. His work has been featured in National Geographic, Vanity Fair, Outside, American Photo, The New York Times, People, USA Today, Paris Match, Stern as well on NBC, CBS, NPR, The Weather Channel and CNN’s Larry King Live. A Summa Cum Laude graduate of UCLA (’87) and the son of an illustrious family of artists (his father is classical conductor Jean-Claude Casadesus), Sebastian — a British/French/US national relocated to NY in 1980 — began his career directing music videos and commercials, and photographing fashion, celebrities and advertising.

Sebastian has been noted as a photographer “who has produced works that are of outstanding artistic
merit and communicates messages of urgent global significance
." Sebastian uses photography as a
medium for activism. “Helping people fall in love with their world,” he says, ”is a catalyst to wanting to save it”.

Sebastian won the prestigious International Photography Awards2007 Professional
Photographer of the Year for his best selling first book Antarctica: A Global Warning (Palace Press). In 2008, Sebastian released a second book titled Antarctica: A Call To Action. His latest book Arctica: The Vanishing North (teNeues) was released in 2015 for which Sebastian won the Photographer of the Year award from the 2016 Tokyo Int’l Photo Awards. It also won the ITB Book Award; and the Global Arctic Award’s book category. His fine quality prints have appeared at the United Nations (Solo Show, 2007); the Council on Foreign Relations; Peabody Essex Museum; the Field Museum and the BACC museum among others. These works can also be found in private collections in both the United States and Europe and several are now part of the permanent archive of The Natural World Museum in San Francisco. In 2018, the French Sénat awarded Sebastian with the prestigious solo exhibition around the gates of the Luxembourg gardens. This public exhibit of 80 large panels of Sebastian’s polar photographs reached 4 million visitors over the four months with an urgent climate message.

A personal commitment to fight for the protection of the environment and a relentless pursuit of a
sustainable future has led Sebastian to focus on visual arts as a tool for social change. Since 1999, Sebastian has worked closely with Global Green USA (the US arm of President Gorbachev’s Green
Cross International), where he serves on the Board of Directors. A life-long waterman, climber and
mountaineer, Sebastian has specialized his adventure skills to polar exploration, and re-tooled his
commercial photography roots into Fine Art as a medium for activism. Since 1999, he has led various expeditions to the Polar regions.

Sebastian spearheaded a media effort in the Arctic in 2005 in defense of the Inuit. He spent two seasons (2006 and 2007) aboard a scientific research icebreaker in the Antarctic Peninsula. In 2008 with partner Luc Hardy, Sebastian led a team of nine children from international nationalities to the northernmost Canadian Arctic as the Young Ambassadors of the Arctic. In March 2009, Sebastian led a mission to what is widely considered the most difficult expedition in the world: the geographical North Pole. He and his partner Keith Heger walked seven hundred kilometers to commemorate the centennial of Admiral Peary’s reach in 1909. Sebastian chronicled the mission in his first documentary Into The Cold: A Journey Of The Soul. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and has won multiple international awards.

In 2010, Sebastian and his partner Eric McNair-Landry spent 43 days crossing the Greenland ice sheet using skis and kites and without outside support. During the 2300 kilometers crossing, they set a new world record for longest distance traveled on kites and skis over one twenty-hour period by covering 595 kilometers. The trip was chronicled in Sebastian's second documentary film, Across The Ice (2015) produced for Red Bull Media House.

On the centennial 2011-2012 season of the South Pole, again with partner Eric McNair-Landry,
Sebastian led the first East/West transcontinental crossing of Antarctica by skis and kites via two of its poles, setting three world records over the 4100 kilometers/82 days expedition. In 2016, Sebastian and partner Mark George completed the longest unsupported East-West crossing of the Simpson Desert, Australia’s driest area. The expedition was a training exercise for his second mission to the North Pole from Canada, in winter 2017, perhaps the last of its kind due to the rapidly melting ice.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

That North Pole mission was dramatically aborted due to severe frostbites. In 2021, Sebastian will
undertake to complete mission, purporting to be the last team in history to reach the pole from land. As an international speaker on climate crisis, Sebastian has been featured on television and radio (Larry King Live, CBS, NPR, Air America) and has addressed audiences at the United Nations, the COP21 in Paris, the World Affairs Council, the General Assembly on Climate in New Orleans, the George Eastman House, Hewlett Packard, Google Headquarters, VF Corp and to Apple’s Senior Design Team amongst others. He has spoken at Universities, museums and embassies, as well as international climate summits addressing the systemic geopolitical consequences of climate change. In 2011, Sebastian founded the SEDNA foundation whose mission is to report from the front lines of climate change. Sebastian is a regular contributor to Men’s Journal, The Huffington Post, and Al Gore’s 24 hours of Climate Reality.

In 2008, Sebastian was named German GQ’s Man of the Year for environmental leadership. In 2009, he received the Founder’s Award from Global Green USA, and in 2010 the Gala Award for his environmental stewardship. He was commended twice by the City of Los Angeles, in 2005 and 2009, and received the Green Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in 2014. In 2016, Eckart Witzigmann and BMW honored Sebastian with the Eckart ‘16 Award for Personal Engagement. In 2018, Sebastian received the Medal of Light from Thailand’s cultural minister for “sustained excellence in the art of photography”. In 2018, Sebastian followed in the footsteps of Jane Goodall and Arnold Schwarzenegger when he received the Bambi award in Germany, in the “Unsere Erde” (“Our Earth”) category. In 2019, French President Macron will knight Sebastian in the National Order of Merit.

He is a brand ambassador for Napapjri clothing and Herbalife. Past and current sponsors include Hewlett Packard, REVO sunglasses (both as brand ambassador), Canon, Lexar, MSR, Rossignol, Nemo, Ozone Kites, MSR, Organic Foodbar and Hilleberg tents among others. Since November 2019 Sebastian is a friend of the Swiss watch manufacture Ulysse Nardin and joined the brand’s armada of modern explorers known as “Team of Ulysses” together with other free-spirited watermen: Fred Buyle, Alex Caizergues, Mathieu Crepel, Sebastien Destremau, Ben Thouard and Alessia Zecchini.

Ulysse Nardin – Classico HOURSTRIKER PHANTOM « Devialet » Edition

Ulysse Nardin Classico HOURSTRIKER PHANTOM « Devialet » Titanium Limited Edition

HOURSTRIKER PHANTOM
A LIMITED EDITION WITH DEVIALET

Devialet, the French company that’s revolutionizing high definition audio with its luxury oval speakers, and the legendary watchmakers Ulysse Nardin are working together to create a limited edition of 85 striking watches: an enhanced audible experience worn on the wrist.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Le Locle, October 14, 2019. Doing things in half-measures is not a part of Ulysse Nardin or Devialet's DNA. Since the inception of both brands, each has been driven by their desire to showcase their work to the world. For one, high-flying timepieces, for the other, new revolutionary sound systems, both thanks to their patented technologies. By combining the strengths of their two Research and Development departments, the two brands have come together to create a unique sound experience in the form of one exceptional watch: the Hourstriker Phantom. The acoustic performance and sound quality make it an unparalleled striking watch in the watchmaking industry.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

"Our main goal was to create a high-performance striking watch" explains Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Ulysse Nardin"Moreover, it was fate: Emmanuel Nardin, one of Devialet's founders who co-developed the Hourstriker Phantom model is in fact a descendant of the Ulysse Nardin family. You simply couldn't make it up. "

THE ULTIMATE SOUND FOR
THE DISCERNING CONNOISSEUR

Devialet offers some of the most advanced "made in France" sound systems in the world, for those music fans in search of the perfect listening experience, thanks to Devialet's more than 160 patented technologies.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Their flagship product, The Phantom, a new generation of high-definition connected speakers, is capable of creating sound up to 108 dB SPL (the Gold Phantom model being the most powerful in the collection). It is the size of a motorcycle helmet and generates unrivaled quality of sound for an intense and revolutionary emotional experience. Phantom now puts its name to Ulysse Nardin's new striking mechanism.

HEAR THE TIME

If Devialet speakers have won over music fans, the Hourstriker Phantom will appeal to those passionate about striking watches. This watch that rings on the hour and half-hour on command, not only allows you to tell the time, but also to hear it.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Before there was electric lighting, striking watches were originally conceived with the aim to ring on the hour in the dark and are the embodiment of a genuine dream. Since the 1980s, under the impetus of Rolf Schnyder, Ulysse Nardin is one of the first watchmakers to bring these timekeepers back to life.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Hand in hand, Devialet engineers, experts in distortion phenomena, collaborated with Ulysse Nardin's watchmakers specialized in sound to redefine each step in the audio signal chain sent from Ulysse Nardin's striking mechanisms to deliver the best performance ever recorded on a striking watch, 85 dB to 100mm.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

With a classic striking mechanism, a hammer hits a timbre generating sound frequencies, when emitted, tells the time on command. However, in the Hourstriker Phantom, the heel of the timbre is fixed by a system of torsion arms that change the direction of the action forces induced by the timbre's vibrations. In a classic system, the forces produced are essentially in the watch's movement, which generates a small amount of air that is then displaced by the various components of the watch.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
With the Hourstriker Phantom, the action forces created by the timbre thus find their way outside of the watch itself. These forces are vigorously transferred using a transmission arm to a thin membrane, which is found on the bottom side of the watch. As the membrane has a large surface area, a large amount of air is displaced, which results in a high sound level. One could compare this to a loudspeaker and its cone and membrane.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
The bottom side of the watch is perforated with eight openings under its membrane that allows the sound to travel and contains the UN-610 automatic manufacture movement. The result is stunning and all the sonic potential of this timepiece appears to be released, amplified, and enhanced. Its fully polished 43 mm titanium case also amplifies the sound and extends its resonance to 85 decibels, an unrivaled level of sound in the world of watchmaking.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

"This new Hourstriker Phantom is the very essence of Devialet expertise expressed through a timepiece: a refined object with an optimized compactness/performance ratio and unbridled power. If Devialet products are looking to give the listener the impression that the artist is right in front of them, then this new Ulysse Nardin striking watch gives the sensation of a real musical instrument", concludes Patrick Pruniaux.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The watch's face is adorned with a satin-brushed anthracite dial inspired by Chladni's figures, formed by the materialization of vibratory waves, a nod to the Devialet Phantom's protective net placed over the tweeter. Hidden under this sculpted lace-like net, tinted glass obscures the watch's movement for an ultra-contemporary look. A small, but original feature, the "rose gold" colored hands point towards the Arabic numeral indexes, all tilted outwards, in single file and in a clockwise direction, just like a navy compass. At three o'clock, a small "rose gold" chip disappears and reappears depending on whether you want to activate or deactivate the striking mechanism (ON/OFF button). At CHF 72,500, the Hourstriker Phantom has become the most affordable striking watch on the market. The piece is enhanced by a black alligator strap and will be sold as a limited edition of 85 pieces, evoking the 85 decibels that it majestically reaches.

ULYSSE NARDIN AND ONE MORE WAVE
ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP

(September 25, 2019) San Diego, CA – Ulysse Nardin is thrilled to announce its partnership with the highly respected non-profit One More Wave and to introduce a limited edition Diver Deep Dive honoring the organization.

One More Wave’s objective is to help wounded or disabled veterans with surf therapy and to get them back in the water by providing customized surfing equipment and assistance. Their mission to help veterans through ocean therapy resonated strongly with Ulysse Nardin, which has long-standing ties to the sea.

I had an unforgettable first-hand experience watching the veterans in the One More Wave program in action,” said François-Xavier Hotier, President of Ulysse Nardin Americas. Mr. Hotier had been introduced to One More Wave by a friend of his, subsequently meeting Kyle Buckett, Managing Director of One More Wave, while visiting the U.S Navy SEAL Training Camp in Coronado, CA. “Their dedication, courage, and camaraderie is inspiring and we hope to bring more awareness to this important work.”

Ulysse Nardin’s deep rooted connection to the U.S. Navy stems from 1905, when Ulysse Nardin won a competition to create the most precise marine chronometer and subsequently became the official supplier to the American Navy.

In addition to a financial contribution, Ulysse Nardin hopes to bring awareness and raise funds for the organization through the launch of the Diver Deep Dive “One More Wave.” The timepiece features a striking yellow and black design, with a black DLC titanium case and 1000m water resistance. The case-back is engraved with the “One More Wave” logo to signify the partnership.  Members of OMW designed the limited edition timepiece as a watch that would stand up to the highly variable pressures experienced while surfing, while also subtly reflecting the founders’ background in amphibious warfare.

One More Wave was founded among the U.S. Navy SEALS community and is a certified non-profit 501(c) (3).They are based in San Diego and has been devoted to helping disabled veterans since 2015. One More Wave owns and operates their workshop making custom surfboards for wounded or disabled veterans that fits their needs and allows them to benefit from the unique therapeutic qualities of surfing.

Surfing is actually one of the most effective therapies we’ve ever found for combating depression as well as post-traumatic stress,” says Kyle Buckett. “When veterans are in the ocean environment, they are completely in the moment and can escape from their injuries and traumas. It’s our job to put them out there with the right equipment and tie them in with the growing community of surfing veterans.”
