LAURENT FERRIER – SPORT Auto Blue Titanium

“At the start of 2022, I am proud to present a new watch in our collection: the Sport Auto. A tribute piece to the extraordinary adventure that we experienced as young men.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

As many of you are already aware, my friend François Servanin and I founded Maison LAURENT FERRIER in 2009. To better understand the beginning of this odyssey, we have to go back some forty years in time….

Let’s go back to 9 June 1979, on the Sarthe circuit, at Le Mans. François and I were about to start the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Although we had participated in this race together for a number of years, tension was still running high. We started 20th on the starting line. We were among the top of Group 5, thanks to my qualifying time of 3:55.080. It was 2 p.m.: the race was about to start. François took the decisive start, determined to impose our Porsche 935 Turbo in the standings.

After 24 hours of racing, 292 laps, 3,988.254 kilometres covered, a top speed of 312 km/h in the Mulsane straight, a rainy night but a dazzling sunrise, stress at its peak, 24 pit stops for various supplies, repairs and changes of driver, it was 10 June 1979, at 3 p.m. and François Trisconi, our teammate, finally made it across the finish line. We were 3rd overall, just behind a certain Paul Newman. A remarkable achievement for three amateur drivers like us!

The story continues in the paddocks where, in a state of elation, I offered a Nautilus to François, as a token of gratitude after this shared performance. By way of thanks and inspired by this gift, François, a born entrepreneur, then challenged me: ‘What if after this feat, we continued the adventure as a team by making our own watch?!’ Thirty years on, the dream became reality and Maison LAURENT FERRIER was born.

Today, more than forty years have passed since this exceptional podium, but not a single week goes by without us recalling this memory. It is also thanks to this that we designed the Sport Auto. We thought it would have been the ideal timepiece to wear during each of our races.”

A REINTERPRETED CASE

“In watchmaking as well as during our many racing adventures, I have always been very attentive to the slightest sensations. Just like the vibrations of the steering wheel, the roar of the engine, the screeching of the tyres, the heat of the leather of my gloves or even the intensity of the speed keeping me firmly in my seat, our Sport Auto had to arouse true emotions.”

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTOT

he exterior of the Sport Auto is a refined interplay of firm and rounded curves enlivened by a few counter-curves outlining a bodywork with a perfectly balanced design. The case comes in grade 5 titanium and measures 41.5 mm in diameter. LAURENT FERRIER has chosen to add a contrasting bezel with softer lines, an evolution of our Square case, to the tonneau-shaped middle case with a very pronounced look. As with each of the pieces in the collection, they made sure to create a real harmony between the different components, with the idea of giving the Sport Auto a silhouette that is both sporty and curvaceous.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

To reinforce the contrast of this confrontation of curves from the▶️ Grand Sport Tourbillon👆, but slightly smaller in size, and give an aerodynamic aspect to the timepiece, the finishes are different on each of its faces. The bezel displays a circular satin-brushed finish that contrasts with its mirror-polished flanks as well as with the vertical satin-brushed middle case.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Icing on the cake, a fully integrated metal bracelet has been added to this case, also in grade 5 titanium, which takes up the vertical satin finish enhanced by polished flanks. The inclined sides of the centre links are also polished. These different finishes give the Sport Auto a very mechanical aspect, another tribute to traditional watchmaking mixed with the two founders’ passion for cars.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The emblematic LAURENT FERRIER ball-shaped crown is, for the first time, screwed down and elegantly integrated into the middle case. The generous features of this crown allow pleasant handling in order to give the initial impetus to the automatic movement. This screw-down crown, combined with water resistance tested to 120 metres, guarantee a maximum comfort for daily wear.

A MULTI-SHADE OPALINE DIAL

The domed sapphire dominates the watch while giving it an irresistible curve to the touch. The latter offers a bird's-eye view of a dial bringing together all the LAURENT FERRIER aesthetic codes. Its different shades of blue, combined with its opaline finish, gives it a soft and powdery line. White gold drop-shaped hands and indexes illuminated by green Super-LumiNova add tone to the dial. At 6 o'clock, a snailed small seconds dial is enlivened with powdered grey markers.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

As in the entire LAURENT FERRIER collection, legibility is a fundamental aspect. Here, it is maximised thanks to the grey minute track. The logo and the central cross also match this colour. A bevelled date window underlined with a fine coordinated transfer is delicately positioned at 3 o'clock. As with the Tourbillon models, the “Sport Auto” movement indication, tone-on-tone transferred between the central hands and the small seconds, completes the composition.

A BRAND-NEW AUTOMATIC CALIBRE

The Maison’s second automatic calendar movement, the LF 270.01 calibre, is the result of an exclusive LAURENT FERRIER development. As a subtle blend of a tribute to the micro-rotor with natural escapement and a more assertive and sporty style, this movement is entirely designed, decorated, assembled and adjusted in the LAURENT FERRIER workshops.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Less sensitive than the natural escapement and more suited to sports watches, this is a Swiss lever escapement using an automatic winding system with an off-centre micro-rotor. For non-negligible benefits in terms of resistance to shocks and vibrations, this movement is fitted with a unidirectional ball bearing replacing the traditional ratchet system. Like a balance wheel, the micro-rotor is equipped with a 950 platinum oscillating weight, placed directly between the plate and the bridge to ensure ideal stability and maximised winding power. Once fully wound, this calibre offers a power reserve of more than 72 hours.

AN IMPORTANT SENSE OF DETAIL

A sapphire crystal case back, fixed with specific screws, similar to those used in motorsport, reveals a movement with impeccable finishes and whose architecture takes up the main codes of the brand's first automatic movement.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Each LF 270.01 calibre alone requires more than 139 manual finishing operations. For instance, the bridge of the micro-rotor movement is meticulously decorated by hand: the angles are softened then finished with gentian wood and diamantine, while the surface is mirror-polished. In addition, the movement features several internal angles, multiple zinc-polished surfaces and numerous satin-finishing and circular-graining, all executed by hand in the LAURENT FERRIER workshops.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

For the first time in the history of LAURENT FERRIER, the micro-rotor is made here in 950 platinum to achieve a more contemporary contrast with the ruthenium-coated bridges. The latter have a horizontal satin finish which offers the movement, a dynamic look that is both very modern but also very intense. Combined with the dark shades of the grade 5 titanium of the bracelet and case; this reinforces the penetrating and sporty character of this new exceptional timepiece.

LAURENT FERRIER – ECOLE Annual Calendar Navy Edition

LAURENT FERRIER"Série Atelier II" ÉCOLE Annual Calendar Navy Limited Edition 2021

ÉCOLE Annual Calendar Navy

After more than a year overshadowed by widespread gloom, there has never been a greater need for a little escape. Thankfully, LAURENT FERRIER has revisited his École Annual Calendar, venturing into the field of colour. Resplendent in blue and orange, this new creation is offered in a limited edition of only ten pieces, each of them numbered and engraved as "Série Atelier II".

LF SWITCHES TO SUMMERTIME.

This most recent creation is housed in the École-shaped case of the Maison. The name derives from the case made by Laurent during his studies at watchmaking school, which inspired him to create a new version, many years later.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The two-zone blue dial of this new reference features a contrasting vertical satin-brushed centre, and circular satin-brushed hour ring. Blue, often associated with dreams and peace of mind, but also a symbol of the sky and sea, is ultimately a colour widely used in both traditional and contemporary watchmaking. Here, it is the product of a galvanic metal treatment process. One of Laurent's favourites, most of his collection showcases this colour. As always with LAURENT FERRIER timepieces, the intensity of the colour varies with the light. Shades are at times dark and captivating, while at others, clear and refreshing, while further enhanced by intense reflections.

In the wake of its big brother, the Grand Sport Tourbillon, the École Annual Calendar Navy offers a more contemporary and sporting appearance compared to earlier versions. Quintessentially associated with aviation or the navy, vibrant orange here adorns the 18K white gold hands, providing the timepiece with optimal legibility and a compelling look.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The École Annual Calendar Navy boasts a long list of features which together make it a unique timepiece. The time is indicated with LF iconic hands stamped in “Assegais” shape. A snailed small seconds dial placed at 6 o'clock gives character to the composition, while two bevelled apertures, positioned at 12 o'clock, display the day and the month. Finally, the date is indicated by a hand coated in white accompanied by vintage-inspired numerals, on the edge of the dial. The whole offers the full array of information required for daily life while remaining uncluttered and with no unnecessary adornment.

A USEFUL COMPLICATION

As the name suggests, this watch is equipped with an annual calendar. This complication recognises months with 30 and 31 days, progressing automatically to the 1st of the month as appropriate. Manual adjustment is required only once a year, on the 1st of March.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The day display is easily set through a pusher on the left side of the case, at 10 o’clock. All the other settings are easily controlled by a pull of the crown and rotating it accordingly, with no need for any tools.

THE LATEST EDITION OF THE "ÉCOLE" CASE

The École case, inspired by Laurent's studies while a younger man, also pays tribute to period pocket watches, from the time when pioneer watchmakers began transforming them into wristwatches. The "Série Atelier II" will be the last reissue of this case, since LAURENT FERRIER has decided to realign his collection by focusing on iconic cases: the Classic, the Square and the Grand Sport.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

As always, the "ball"-shaped crown, the emblematic signature of the Maison, offers all the ease of a smooth and very pleasant winding.

Calibre 126.01

The calibre 126.01 is at the heart of the "Série Atelier II". This hand-wound movement incorporates a Swiss lever escapement and offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours. The power reserve indicator is placed on the movement and visible on the case-back. Much appreciated by purists, the long-blade ratchet, characteristic of LAURENT FERRIER manual movements, here boasts a polished bassiné finish, handcrafted in the brand's own workshops.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

LAURENT FERRIER is renowned for unmatched finishes. The sapphire crystal on the back of the École Annual Calendar Navy reveals both the mechanism and the finesse of its state-of-the-art manual finishes, carried out according to the most demanding criteria of traditional fine watchmaking. Each bridge is adorned with spotless Côtes de Genève decoration, and ruthenium plating. The plate is embellished with beading while the edges and inner edges are chamfered and then polished by hand, just like the screw heads. The art of watchmaking in its purest form.

The École Annual Calendar Navy is presented on a hand-sewn bracelet in orange or navy Nubuck leather (based on your choice) with a navy Alcantara lining.

Designed to be worn on any occasion, the "Série Atelier II" limited edition of only ten pieces will be available exclusively from Atelier LAURENT FERRIER on their website.

LAURENT FERRIER – CLASSIC Origin Green “Série Atelier” Edition

LAURENT FERRIERCLASSIC Origin Green Titanium 40 “Série Atelier” Edition 2020

The acclaimed Maison LAURENT FERRIER, unveils a new interpretation of the Classic Origin. Housed in the Classic, pebble-shaped case, this new version will be launched as the “Série Atelier”, a limited-edition of 30 examples. More modern, this latest creation upholds the company’s revered standards of craftsmanship and horological virtue.

 A CONTEMPORARY REINTERPRETATION

The Classic Origin Green is specially designed for those individuals who value the brand’s signature crystal-clear elegance. This model is housed in a 40mm Classic case and encompasses the same smooth curving lines as the inaugural model of the brand, the Classic Tourbillon double spiral. However, in this instance, the case is formed of Grade 5 titanium, imbuing the watch with a more modern temperament.

Consistent with the Genevan Maison's inclination for uncluttered aesthetics, the Classic Origin Green exhibits a minimalist refined beauty. Assegai-shaped hour and minute hands serenely float above a very distinctive dial. The “Série Atelier” features a gradient opaline dial that transitions from translucent green at its center to a deep forest green near its periphery.

The slate grey hour track is punctuated with sharp yellow numerals which give the whole piece a sporty spirit. A small seconds display with a sharp yellow outer circle, featuring a baton-shaped hand, is located above 6 o’clock. All three hands are formed of 18-carat white gold. The watch is equipped with the Maison's iconic 'Ball-shaped' crown. Beyond its graceful appearance, the scale and shape of the crown facilitate ease of adjustment.

The “Série Atelier”, a limited-edition of 30 pieces will be available directly from LAURENT FERRIER workshop through their website.

A MANUAL CALIBRE

The hand-wound Calibre LF 116.01, visible via the exhibition case back, is refined to the highest order. The movement is equipped with a free-sprung balance and a Breguet overcoil. This latter combination enhances precision, mitigates positional errors and improves isochronism.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The firm's beloved long-blade ratchet system is another highlight of this movement. This system, emblematic of LAURENT FERRIER, offers a very pleasant feeling when the watch is wound as well as an inimitable sound, characteristic of the most demanding timepieces. Assuming the Classic Origin Green is fully wound, it will run autonomously for 80 hours, courtesy of its admirable power reserve.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

While the Calibre LF 116.01 is simpler than some of the company's complicated movements, it still encompasses the high-end finishing found on every other LAURENT FERRIER creation. The bridges are decorated with a softly spoken micro-blasted, black rhodium finish and hand-polished edges. Each screwhead is mirror polished and the escapement bridge is gracefully adorned with a hand-made interior angle, consistent with the Maison's fastidious attention to detail.

A honey Timberland leather strap, lined with Alcantara and paired with a titanium pin buckle, highlights the Classic Origin Green. This combination provides a tasteful accompaniment to this limited-edition.

LAURENT FERRIER – Classic Origin Opaline Titanium 10th Anniversary

LAURENT FERRIERClassic Origin Opaline Titanium 10th Anniversary

The acclaimed Maison LAURENT FERRIER, celebrates its 10th anniversary with the release of a classical watch featuring a timeless dial and case ensemble. The Classic Origin Opaline, housed in a sporty Grade 5 titanium case, upholds the company’s revered standards of craftsmanship and horological virtue.

10 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE

Throughout LAURENT FERRIER’s history, the company has produced several complicated watches, including tourbillons, a minute repeater, a natural escapement, a dual time or even an annual calendar. In addition, the Maison has released an array of different case shapes, including its iconic Classic.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In 2010, the Galet Classic won an award at the prestigious Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (GPHG). This watch was endowed with a tourbillon and a double balance spring as well as a classic, notably smooth, round case.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This was not an isolated success. Furthermore, when the brand released additional models, it invariably received additional accolades. Indeed, LAURENT FERRIER enjoyed further success at the GPHG in 2015 and 2018, notable recognition for its various case designs and movements, all conceived in the brand’s Genevan atelier. These cases and movements continue to endure.

A DESIGN REVISIT

This latest timepiece from LAURENT FERRIER, the Classic Origin Opaline, is designed for those individuals who value sobriety and virtue. Created to mark the 10th anniversary of the company, this latest model is housed in a 40mm classic case and encompasses the same smooth curving lines as the inaugural model. However, in this instance, the case is formed of Grade 5 titanium, imbuing the watch with a youthful temperament.

Consistent with the Genevan Maison's inclination for uncluttered aesthetics, the Classic Origin Opaline exhibits a pure appearance. Assegai-shaped hour and minute hands serenely float above a silvery-white opaline dial. The slate grey dial's hour track is marked with burgundy-coloured numerals which prove highly legible, add a soupçon of sportiness, but remain tastefully understated. A small snailed seconds display, featuring a baton-shaped hand is located above 6 o’clock. All three hands are formed of 18-carat white gold.

As previously mentioned, the LAURENT FERRIER Classic case is constructed of Grade 5 titanium, the first time this lightweight alloy has been used by the company. Grade 5 titanium is widely used in both the medical field and the aviation industry because of its impressive array of benefits.

It is strong, lightweight, corrosion-resistant and hypoallergenic. The watch is equipped with the Maison's iconic 'Ball-shaped' crown. Beyond its graceful appearance, the scale and shape of the crown facilitate ease of adjustment.

A BRAND NEW CALIBRE

The hand-wound Calibre LF 116.01, visible via the exhibition case back, is refined to the highest order. The movement is equipped with a free-sprung balance and a Breguet overcoil. This latter combination enhances precision, mitigates positional errors and improves isochronism. The firm's beloved long-blade ratchet system is another highlight of this movement. While the Calibre LF 116.01 is simpler than some of the company's complicated movements, it still encompasses the high-end finishing found on every other LAURENT FERRIER creation. The LAURENT FERRIER Classic Origin Opaline has a light brown Barbialla calf leather strap, lined with Alcantara. Paired with a titanium pin buckle, this lightweight combination provides a stylish accompaniment to this timepiece.

LAURENT FERRIER – Grand Sport Tourbillon

LAURENT FERRIER Grand Sport Tourbillon – Blue Gradient Opalin Dial Steel 44 Edition

Laurent Ferrier is widely known for creating classical watches imbued with traditional watchmaking crafts and mechanical excellence. Now, the esteemed Genevan atelier has crafted a new contemporary watch, the Grand Sport Tourbillon, which upholds the company’s no-compromise approach to watchmaking.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Housed in a sporty 44mm stainless steel case, this is the brand’s first model equipped with an integrated stainless steel bracelet. This new addition to Laurent Ferrier’s portfolio of models features a tourbillon, double balance spring, and the firm’s legendary exalted finishing.

For the first time, the Maison has equipped a watch with an integrated stainless steel bracelet. The central row of the 3-rows design is comprised of vertical satin finished links. The rounded edges of the links are presented in a contrasting mirror-polish. These details imbue the bracelet and case ensemble with a sumptuous appearance.

COMFORT IN MIND

The 44mm stainless-steel case, with its cushion-shaped bezel against a slightly tonneau middle case, features all the design codes of a Laurent Ferrier timepiece with smooth rounded lines and a refined aesthetic, but it also presents a powerful new design with increased strength and character.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Like all of his creations, Laurent Ferrier designed the Tourbillon Grand Sport case for the wrist so that it would be extremely comfortable and a pleasure to wear throughout the day. Every aspect of the experience of wearing the watch has been considered, from the sensation of winding the crown in the morning, to checking the time while driving home at night. A closer look reveals refined crown guards, sporty bolts on the case back and highly polished parts next to satin finished elements that accentuate the attention to detail and exceptional workmanship that has gone into the fabrication of this unique case.

A closer look reveals refined crown guards, sporty bolts on the case back and highly polished parts next to satin finished elements that accentuate the attention to detail and exceptional workmanship that has gone into the fabrication of this unique case.

A  KEEN SENSE OF DETAIL

The year 2019 is not only the anniversary of the founders’ motor racing careers, it is also the 10th anniversary of the conception of the brand’s first tourbillon. It is for this reason that the Tourbillon Grand Sport features this highly-appreciated complication.

The tourbillon device created by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1801 is fitted with a double balance spring. The two reversed-fitted balance-springs neutralise the lateral displacement of the balance axis, while the tourbillon compensates for the variations in rate in all vertical positions. Associating these two devices combines their advantages and ensures impressively high rating precision.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Laurent Ferrier has also developed its own escapement mechanism. In association with the tourbillon, with a specifically adapted construction and a rigorous choice of materials and manual adjustments, the regulating organ ensures excellent precision. The Tourbillon caliber is indeed chronometer-certified by the Besançon Observatory.

The mechanical hand-wound movement, entirely developed and produced within the Laurent Ferrier workshops, is fitted with a double balance-spring tourbillon crafted in the finest traditional manner. Visible exclusively through the sapphire caseback, the mechanism is not a mere aesthetic enhancement, but also discreetly serves its former functional purpose of guaranteeing the precision and reliability of the regulating system.

The calibre construction is inspired by the major 19th century chronometry models with their manual-winding system featuring a long-blade-type ratchet pawl system distinguished by the delicate mechanical clicking sound emitted during winding. The movement has been given a horizontal satin-brushed finish with a ruthenium touch for a sportier allure and has been finished with extreme care, as evidenced by the manual decoration on the tourbillon carriage bridge. The design of the bridges is inspired by pocket-watches and the decoration is executed in keeping with the finest watchmaking traditions, including 30 hand-crafted interior angles.

The present-day styling encompasses an opaline dial that transitions from blue at its center to black near its periphery. Both the hands and indexes feature orange Super-LumiNova, vitalizing the overall composition. A snailed small seconds display resides above 6 o’clock and sits beneath a gently arcing tinted sapphire crystal, granting a rounded appearance when viewed from the side.
