CHRONOSWISS – Open Gear ReSec Edition

CHRONOSWISS Open Gear ReSec Electric Blue Limited Edition - 2020

Open Gear ReSecJump Back in Time

Chronoswiss presents its latest modern mechanical timepiece: the Open Gear ReSec, where the large minute hand meets a grand competitor taking over centre stage. On the Open Gear ReSec, the retrograde second hand is the leading actor in the chronological play of time. Mounted on a hand-finished straight-grained bridge with polished edges, the second hand runs in a half-circle from four to eight. After thirty seconds it jumps back to begin again from four.

This ‘jump back in time’ takes a millisecond, and the precision of the watch is well within ±5 seconds per day,” says Maik Panziera, Chronoswiss Head of Design, about the retrograde display – a truly hypnotic invention with roots stretching back to 17th- century pocket watches.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The elegantly gold-plated minute hand of the Open Gear ReSec circumnavigates the entirety of the 42-part dial. Its tip is extremely sharp, thus enabling you to see exactly what minute it is. Its matt finish resolutely contrasts the shiny hand-guillochéd dial made in Chronoswiss ́ Lucerne atelier, which gives an extremely clear time reading.

The dial is also encircled with hour indexes made of massive white cylinder- shaped blocks of Super-LumiNova®, ensuring the time is legible even in the darkest hours. Through the funnel-shaped hour subdial the wearer can also enjoy the mechanical ballet of open-gear horology with skeletonised wheels –truly an example of a modern mechanical timepiece.

Looking closer at the details, you will see finishing and engineering solutions on a level not usually found in watches in this price range. For instance, the bridges holding the retrograde complication in place have three different finishes: sandblasted matt, chamfered edges and polished surfaces. This attention for detail is also applied to the exterior: The electric blue CVD-coated 17-part case features matt, channelled sides and a shiny bezel and lugs.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Even the bracelet pins holding the chunky hornback leather crocodile strap in place are more than meets the eye. They are held in place by cone-shaped screws that expand into the holes in a system which obviates the need for Loctite. This patented feature of ours is known as Autobloc. And when you pull out the generous onion crown, the stop-seconds system enables easy and exact time setting.

A mix of new materials, old techniques and contemporary design – this is what it takes to be a modern mechanical brand,” says Chronoswiss CEO Oliver Ebstein

CHRONOSWISS – Flying Regulator Open Gear Anniversary Edition

CHRONOSWISS Flying Regulator Open Gear 35th Anniversary Edition

Baselworld 2018 Chronoswiss
Flying Regulator Open Gear

Chronoswiss introduces a modern version of its Regulator and announces a new strategic partnership. With certain brands, it is sometimes hard to define the DNA, the essence of their creations or what is the common theme linking the collections. With Chronoswiss on the other hand, this is rather easy. Indeed, the brand has a clear segmentation, as most of its watches are based on a regulator display. The latest model in the collection doesn’t derogate from the general rule. Please meet the Chronoswiss Flying Regulator Open Gear, a modern take on the brand’s codes.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The regulator watch is closely linked to the history of Chronoswiss, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. Indeed, the regulator was the first stand-alone model in the history of Chronoswiss and in subsequent years, it quickly became the brand ́s central theme. This model is even celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Thus, no surprises that the team behind the brand wanted this original display to be at centre stage in their latest creation, as a preview for Baselworld 2018.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Following the revolutionary 3D dials and skeletonizations of recent years, Chronoswiss is now introducing the Flying Regulator Open Gear version featuring a revolutionary regulator style dial layout with visible movement parts.

Its dial is simultaneously its module board, onto which the train wheel bridges of the skeletonized gears are mounted. These move on four ruby bearings, generating the least possible friction. The train wheel bridges have also been elaborately skeletonized and boast carefully angled and polished edges. Six visually appealing blued screws keep them reliably in their intended place on the dial, once more proving the brand´s credo of functional design. At 6 o’clock on the dial, the Flying Regulator Open Gear reveals an exciting insight.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The dial and the bridge have been skeletonized at the height of the small second so that you can see the second wheel in action. As the associated seconds scale – just like the display for the hour at 12 o’clock, by the way – floats above the dial on a funnel-like display, the gaze is virtually drawn towards the inner workings and to the seconds wheel, designed to look like a rotary dial.

The Flying Regulator Open Gear comes in four different variants:  stainless steel with dials in galvanic blue, black or silver, or in a red gold case with galvanic silver dial. SuperLumiNova inlays on the hands and indexes always ensure great legibility in the dark.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This new model is a pure Chronoswiss development, from the design to the dial module. Its 37 individual parts were manufactured in Lucerne and then assembled in the House of Chronoswiss. The “Atelier Lucerne” mark, resplendent on the dial, is testament to this. Furthermore, the brand’s complete prototype construction is now performed in-house.

A special edition of the Flying Regulator Open Gear will also be launched to celebrate the brand’s 35-year anniversary in 2018.

CHRONOSWISS – “Ouroboros” Quarter Repeater for Only Watch 2015

CHRONOSWISS – “Ouroboros” Quarter Repeater for Only Watch 2015

Beauty and the Beast

As its second contribution for the Only Watch charity, Chronoswiss once more chose to excel in artistic craftsmanship. For 2015´s charity auction, the brand proudly presents a timeless interpretation of the ancient “Ouroboros” theme in a sophisticated quarter repeater wristwatch. Dating back to ancient Egypt, mankind has always been fascinated by this symbol of self-reflexivity and the eternal re-creation process.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

This concept has been translated into a most intriguing timepiece with a high proportion of demanding craftsmanship. Set in a case made of solid white gold, the Ouroboros has been engraved by hand into a solid white gold dial. This is a time-consuming and extremely elaborate process which results in a three-dimensional serpent with a beautiful coating of patina.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

In the very center of the dial encircled by the Ouroboros´s body, the white gold has been embellished with côtes de Genève in galvanic anthracite, further adding to the mysterious allure of the timepiece and exactly matching the color of the elegant alligator skin watch band. After the serpent has been engraved into the dial, the artisan still has to perform one demanding step in the creation process of this unique piece: the cutting of the Breguet thread.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

The resuscitation of these historical, to a degree almost forgotten, handcrafts is something that is near and dear to Chronoswiss CEO Oliver Ebstein who founded a special workshop at the brand´s headquarters in the Swiss town of Lucerne in spring 2013. Here, ticking treasures like the “Ouroboros” are created by artists, partially with the aid of historical tools, such as an antique rose engine built in the year 1924 in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

While the dial as the “face” of the watch receives a lot of attention, the insides of the timepiece, which are visible through the transparent case back, also create a great amount of fascination. Technically speaking, the quarter repeater mechanism which is featured on Chronoswiss manufacture caliber is counted among the great complications. One little hammer strikes its gong to ring out the number of hours (“ding”), then two little hammers strike against two meticulously tuned gongs to ring out the number of quarter-hours (“ding-dong”). The sound of the “Ouroboros” is crystal clear, pure and truly beautiful – almost a contradiction to the beast on its dial.

About the Only Watch timepiece:

In its second contribution, “Ouroboros”, Chronoswiss pays tribute to the ancient symbol of a serpent eating its own tail, a metaphor for eternal re-creation. This fascinating timepiece is yet another example for artistic craftsmanship performed at Chronoswiss, the white gold dial having been engraved by hand.

CHRONOSWISS – Timemaster GMT Automatic

CHRONOSWISS Timemaster GMT Automatic NEW

Chronoswiss at Baselworld 2015

This year Chronoswss will present fascinating and exclusive novelties.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

As a small foretaste, we are presenting our new Timemaster GMT with new design and carbon dial
Meetings in Tokyo, a business lunch in London, or a pitch in Silicon Valley - even when you're on a business trip, it's nice to be able to see what time it is at home. With the new Timemaster GMT, Chronoswiss introduces the latest addition to its sports line that harmoniously combines the practical feature of a second time zone with a robust exterior.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

In the past few years, the Timemaster line has seen some significant changes and all models have been adapted to conform to the new design. In 2015 Chronoswiss takes the next step with its Timemaster GMT: For the first time in the company's history, a new material is being used - carbon celebrates its premiere on the lavish dial, which is composed of several layers. The high-quality composition in smooth anthracite gives the durable sports watch a "face" with three-dimensional depth - you can clearly make out individual filaments - and emphasizes the overall sporty feel.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

The design's color scheme is heavily made up of highlights in "racing yellow", a highly dynamic colour. With its Super-LumiNova coating, the GMT hand even glows in the dark.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                BIG FOTO

Depending on the design, "racing yellow" produces a striking contrast to the anthracite of the carbon dial or a galvanic blue sheet with fine sunburst finish. Just like all Timemasters, the new model with GMT feature is available either with a pure stainless steel case or with DLC coating.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                BIG FOTO

Perfectly connecting the striking case of this ticking cosmopolitan is a band made of fine stainless steel, sporty rubber, or a new textile material, which has a similar structure to carbon.

CHRONOSWISS – TimeMaster Chronograph Skeleton

CHRONOSWISS TimeMaster Chronograph Skeleton  NEW

BASELWORLD Novelty 2014

Completely New Insights

After long having been covered, it’s finally come out –the dial, that is. For the first time ever, a skeletonized version of this sporty chronograph debuts within the Chronoswiss collection at Baselworld 2014, allowing an unencumbered view into the ticking heart of the watch – a fascinating chance to see inside the filigreed, decorated movement.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

This striking timepiece comes in a stainless steel case with a DLC-coated bezel, lending it not only dynamic visuals, but also robust character. DLC (“diamond-like carbon”) is extremely hard and thus defends against scratching. The bezel also features a five-minute scale boasting Super-LumiNova inlays. In addition to the chronograph function, the date is displayed within a subdial positioned at 3 o’clock.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

Light and shade: the Timemaster Chronograph Skeleton is available in two dial variations: mysterious black or extravagantly elegant galvanic matte silver– each unique in its own right. The white Super-LumiNova is clearly visible on the black version, allowing for excellent night reading due to the high contrast levels.

The matte silver is beautifully complemented by luminous coating on the hands, dial and bezel, creating stunning turquoise blue accents. No matter where your personal preference lies, the Timemaster Chronograph Skeleton allows for fascinating insights.
