Housed in a robust 45mm stainless steel case, the collection features a new and dynamic dial con guration, incorporating the collection’s iconic triangular indexes with two chronograph subdials that bring a technical touch to the design of the dial. A generous application of white SuperLumiNova makes the new Super KonTiki Chronograph highly legible throughout the day and night, adding to the practicality of this precision instrument. Another useful feature is the highly polished rotational bezel that not only o ers a further method for tracking the passage of time, but reinforces the sporty nature of the timepiece.
A MARITIME LEGEND OF OLD
The KonTiki collection is named after the famous ocean expedition helmed by Thor Heyerdahl, Norwegian ethnographer, botanist, and zoologist. Heyerdahl crossed the Paci c Ocean on a wooden raft to demons- trate that ancient civilisations could have made such a crossing centuries ago.

His only modern-day equipment was a hand-cranked radio for weather reports and six Eterna timepieces for guiding his crew across the open ocean. When news of their successful voyage reached Switzerland, Eterna decided to design a unique collection to commemorate Heyerdahl’s incredible voyage. Called the KonTiki Series, it has been one of Eterna’s most popular collections since its introduction, bringing elements of adventure, danger and excitement to mechanical watchmaking.
THE MOVEMENT
What sets the new Super KonTiki Chronograph apart from all other pieces in the KonTiki collection is the very special movement it gets: the famous yback chronograph movement designed by the Eterna manufacture. Unlike a normal chronograph, the yback function allows the chronograph to be reset to zero and immediately started again at any given time during its operation. This handy complication seems simple, but is extremely di cult to accomplish and serves as a tribute to the mastery of the movement manufacture at Eterna.

The Super KonTiki’s automatic yback chronograph movement, the Calibre 3916A, is part of the legendary 39 family of Eterna movements. Beating at 28,800 vph, the movement has an impressive 60-hour power reserve and is beautifully nished with rhodium plating on the surface of the components, as well as a microblasting decoration on the oscillating weight. Like all Eterna’s in-house movements, the Super KonTiki Chronograph boasts chronometer-level precision with seventy per cent of the parts being manufactured at Eterna’s Grenchen headquarters.

IN MEMORY OF AN ADVENTUROUS EXPEDITION
IN MEMORY OF AN ADVENTUROUS EXPEDITION
The watches in the KonTiki line are a reminder of thecourage and resolution of archaeologist and ethnologist Thor Heyerdahl. Back in 1947, the 32-year-old Norwegianand five other scientists set out from the Peruviancoast into the Pacific Ocean on a simple raft made ofbalsa wood named after Kon-Tiki, an Incan sun god.
Heyerdahl had embarked on his derring-do expeditionto prove that it would have been technically possible forthe pre-Columbian Indians of South America to reach Polynesia with the help of the Humboldt Current andthe Passat wind. On their wrists the researchers worespecially made, extremely tough and reliable watchesfrom Eterna’s workshops. The crew put their trust inthese indispensable navigation aids whenever theyhad to carry out manoeuvres or make decisionsupon which depended not only the success of theirmission but also the survival of the men themselves. After 101 days and nights on the high seas, with almost 8000 kilometres behind them, Thor Heyerdahl and hiscrew finally reached the Raroia atoll in Polynesia.

“Borders? I have never seen one. But I have heard they exist in the minds of some people.”
Thor Heyerdahl
Their watches likewise survived the journey and shownno sign of damage from salt water, the humidity orthe fluctuating temperatures. The technical findings andexpertise taken from the creation of the timepieces forthis successful expedition subsequently flowed into thefurther development of Eterna’s sports watches.
