Bremont - “World Timer” ALT1-WT Chronograph

Bremont - “World Timer” ALT1-WT Chronograph

Bremont releases its first “World Timer” watch

The ALT1-WT Basel 2012

Bremont’s Victory watch wins WatchPro’s Luxury Watch of the Year!

WatchPro magazine has unveiled its keenly anticipated Watches of the Year report, which lists the top timepieces that will make the greatest commercial impact in the UK this year.
Bremont are pleased to announce its Victory watch has won the Luxury Watch of the Year category. The brands were judged on sharp details, fine materials and superior complications.
The Victory is a limited edition watch unlike any other which uses original parts of the HMS Victory with some proceeds from the watch sales going towards the preservation of the Ship.
Giles English “Nelson went to my school and as a boy he always fascinated me, I remember clearly the first time I visited HMS Victory. Over the last few years both Nick and myself have been working with the Royal Navy Fleet air arm Heritage and that’s when we heard about the restoration of HMS Victory. With no hesitation we approached the Navy and discussed the possibility of creating a watch using original parts from the ship. Not only did we want to make the watch unique but we also want it to be a horological masterpiece.”
Watches of the Year is an annual report that is compiled specifically to inform and excite watch retailers; bringing to their attention the greatest designs, technical innovations and commercial ideas that will drive sales in the coming 12 months.
“WatchPro’s Watches of the Year is the culmination of months of research at Europe’s major trade shows and in consultation with the UK industry,” explains Kathryn Bishop, deputy editor of WatchPro and editor of the Watches of the Year report. “It is a unique list of watches that are not only exceptional in their own right, but also present stunning business opportunities for retailers that stock them.”
Bremont would like to thank Watch Pro and for all our wonderful retailers who continue to support us.

In 2010 Bremont was commissioned to produce a unique global timer chronometer for the military C-17 Globemaster crew around the world. The watch is certainly one of the more intricate and complicated military watches ever produced. Design features of the Bremont C-17 include the etched globe on the dial and a Roto-Click® bezel that enables the user to work out the global time zones using the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) airfield identifiers. Each identifier represents a C-17 landing location in all 24 time zones.

The watch itself can show UTC or 'Zulu' time through its adjustable 24-hour hand.
Bremont have now developed this ‘Globemaster’ watch as the Bremont World Timer (ALT1-WT) for the civilian market and produced their first global timer watch for use by pilots and travelers all over the world. Launched in a new Trip-Tick® case with Roto-click® bezel and a very complex, highly finished dial the watch has been wonderfully over-engineered. The steel used in the case construction has been hardened through a series of processes at high temperatures to give it a hardness and scratch resistance of 2000 Vickers.

A standard untreated 316L stainless steel watch case will naturally be around 300 Vickers. The internal bezel, which is operated by the crown at 8 o'clock, uses a mechanism developed by the company (integrating a series of ball-bearings) that allows the user to turn the bezel with a satisfying 'click' for each minute turned. The date window takes inspiration from the Globemaster’s Head Up Display (HUD). The Bremont World Timer will be available in three striking dial variations, Blue, Black and.
The watch will be priced at £3,995 in the UK and $5695 USD.

The sapphire crystal covering the dial has nine layers of anti-reflective treatment on each side of the crystal reducing light reflections on the crystal face by up to 95%. This treatment is specially designed to be as scratch resistant as the sapphire crystal it has been applied to.
The modified automatic chronometer (COSC) certified BE-54AE movement is beautifully finished at Bremont's ateliers in the UK and Switzerland, and once wound, will use the movement of the wearer to keep its mainspring fully wound. The decorated movement can be seen through a sapphire exhibition crystal case back. The watch is presented in a leather travel wallet, hand-made in England, it comes with a strap changing tool and an extra NATO military nylon strap along with the watch's COSC certification.

The C-17, nicknamed "Globemaster III" is a 4-engine, high-wing, T-tailed military transport aircraft operated by the United States Air Force, the United Kingdom Royal Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force, the Canadian Air Force and the Qatar EMIRI Air-Force. The aircraft is primarily used for strategic and tactical airlift of cargo and troops to main operating bases, or forward operating bases, anywhere in the world. It can rapidly deploy a combat unit to a battle area and sustain it with supplies.
Bremont, a British luxury watch brand was co-founded by brothers Nick and Giles English in 2002, has made a substantial impact in the watch industry in a very short period of time. In 2008 Bremont was made the “Best British Emerging Luxury Brand‟ by Walpole, and last year won “Watch Brand of 2011‟ at the UK Jewellery Awards. The brand remains true to its original principles of durability, legibility and precision.

Oris - Dive Deeper with Carlos Coste

Oris - Dive Deeper with Carlos Coste

Since 2006 the Swiss watch manufacturer Oris and the record breaking free diver, Carlos Coste, share a deep passion for the world of diving. From the moment this partnership was established, Oris and Carlos have launched some of the World’s most technologically advanced diving watches and are now looking forward to pushing the boundaries even further, developing innovative timepieces which inspire both watch lovers and diving enthusiasts alike.

Born in Caracas Venezuela in 1976, Carlos Coste became the first person to break the 100 meter barrier in the free immersion discipline in 2003. Coste held 11 freediving world records. In 2005, he won the first world championship in constant weight with 105 meters. In 2006 Carlos set the world record for free diving in the variable weight modality with a mammoth depth of 140 meters in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt. Carlos was injured in late 2006 whilst pursuing a world record in the no limits category. He resumed full training a year later and in 2010, Carlos established a new Guinness World Record for free diving, by completing a 150 meter underwater swim using no apparatus through Dos Ojos, a colossal cenote (cave network) that twists for 31 miles under Yucatan, Mexico.

To honour Coste’s incredible feat in 2010, Oris launched the Carlos Coste Limited Edition Cenote Series – the ultimate performance accessory, which followed the introduction of the Carlos Coste Chronograph Limited Edition in 2007 and the Carlos Coste Limited Edition in 2006. Oris also works closely with Carlos in testing and approving the entire range of diving watches.

They offer the ultimate in precision and reliability without compromising on style and I’m looking forward to jointly discovering new frontiers over the next years”.

HUBLOT - KING POWER 48 MM OCEANOGRAPHIC 4000 KING GOLD WHITE

HUBLOT - KING POWER 48 MM OCEANOGRAPHIC 4000 KING GOLD WHITE NEW

Press release (PDF) June 2012

CEANOGRAPHIC 4000 KING GOLD WHITE
In association with the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, Hublot unveils a diver's watch able to withstand the pressure exerted at a depth of 4,000 metres.
It is a symbolic watch. The 4000 m watch. A watch developed for pushing the limits of what is rational and possible. It has taken 18 months of research, development and testing to present, today, the Oceanographic 4000, a watch which can be worn on dives to depths of 4,000 metres, under extreme pressure - an exceptional technical achievement.
For the first time, the famous Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, with the Institut Océanographique Fondation Albert 1st Prince de Monaco - names renowned throughout the world in the fields of marine studies, research and conservation - has agreed to be associated with a watch. Quite some symbol.

A genuine instrument with technology developed to the extreme, ergonomics for efficiency and ease of handling, this watch was conceived and designed to push the limits of the possible. Almost all the features of the Oceanographic 4000 are exceptional, in terms of design, development and manufacturing. To be described as diver's watch, resistant to the pressure exerted at the record depth of 4,000 metres, the watch had to meet the exacting specifications of the international standards of Swiss watchmaking (NIHS).
Starting with its seal, tested by Hublot in a Roxer tank, submerged and pressurised to the equivalent of 5,000 metres. To ensure the watertightness of the watch and to resist this extreme pressure, the synthetic sapphire crystal is 6.5 thick. This is thicker than normal, but is reasonable for this level of resistance. The case back is screw-down, a sine qua non for reaching such depths. It is made of grade 2 titanium, an extremely strong stainless material.
As its case is made of King Gold (18K gold with 5% of platinum which gives this special intense red color), the Oceanographic 4000 is still light on the wrist - although its diameter of 48 mm and its volume is substantial.
From the brightness standpoint, the time and elapsed time measured by the flange must be legible from a distance of 25 cm in the dark. To meet this requirement, the dial, the flange and the hands of the Oceanographic 4000 have been optimised to have a larger surface area treated with SuperLuminova™, a luminescent material emitting a white colour.
The reading method has been made as safe as possible, using an internal rotating flange which is unidirectional and rack-driven, with a dive time indicator. The dive time indicator being placed as close as possible to the dial minimises the risk of inadvertently altering the dive time.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...        BIG FOTO

It also makes the dive time easier to read. In accordance with the standard, the Oceanographic 4000 has a minute scale on which the five-minute periods are clearly highlighted.
The watch is fitted with two screw-down crowns (a protective measure that helps ensure water resistance by compression of an O-ring seal). The flange crown which sets the dive time is placed at the 2 o'clock position for easy access and more comfortable use. It is unidirectional, again for safety reasons, with a bayonet fitting and protected by an oversized crown guard, for extra safety and easy operation when handling diving equipment. The second crown, for winding and setting the time and date, is positioned at 4 o'clock to avoid obstruction.
Finally, the Oceanographic 4000 has a helium valve, a feature essential to any diving watch capable of descending to great depths. An essential feature when the watch is used in diving chambers, the helium valve allows gases that have infiltrated the watch during the descent to safely escape during the ascent. The valve fitted to the Oceanographic 4000 is made of stainless steel, positioned at 10 o'clock, visible from the left-hand side lug.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...    BIG FOTO

The watch comes with two tongue and buckle straps ("Town" & "Diver"). This type of fastening is more secure than a folding clasp for this type of use, and is also easier to handle and close when using gloves. Note that the design of this buckle is original (because the use of a tongue is rare in the normal Hublot collections) and that its method of attachment to the case is even more so with two small push buttons built into each end of the case to allow the strap to be changed instantly without the use of a screwdriver or any other accessory. The "Town" strap is in white rubber. The "Diver" strap, a blend of white rubber and Nomex™, longer than a standard strap, has been developed to be worn over a diving suit up to 8 mm thick.
The Oceanographic 4000 has been designed to meet the most demanding requirements of both professional divers and watch enthusiasts.
It will enter the history of diving watches which have become legendary.

Frederique Constant - Runabout Venice Limited Editions

Frederique Constant - Runabout Venice Limited Editions

Frederique Constant introduces the ‘Venice Editions’ of the Runabout, consisting of a Chronograph version and a Three-hand Automatic with date. Both timepieces feature a stainless steel case and a silvered dial with applied, rose gold plated Arabic indexes. A light brown strap with off-white stitching accentuates the rose gold plated indexes on the dial. Our Italian clientele defined this sophisticated combination of design elements.

This year Frederique Constant hosts the Runabout Challenge in Venice, Italy, so it was only logical to design the Runabout Venice Edition, based on the input from the Italian market. The outcome is a beautiful collection! But then again, it’s not for nothing that Italy has always been famous for its sense of style…

The new models are available in a limited editions of 1’888 pieces per version. Featuring a case diameter of 43mm and presented in stainless steel, the new Runabout Venice Editions offer finely decorated silvered dials. With a delicate guilloche decoration at the centre, hand-applied Arabic indexes, and perfectly positioned Chronograph counters, these watches exude an uncluttered elegance, just like the Runabout yachts by which they were inspired.

Through the sapphire case-back, the decorated automatic movement can be admired. Traditionally, each Runabout timepiece comes with its own luxurious, handmade wooden case that echoes the passionate craftsmanship of the yachts. Alongside the watch, a miniature reproduction of a classic Runabout boat can be found inside the unique gift box.

Runabout Challenge 2012 in Venice
End of April 2012, Frederique Constant hosted a unique event on the waters of Venice, to celebrate its connection with Runabout boats. After sponsoring the Helice Classique on Lake Geneva and the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance in the USA, it was time to organize a dedicated Frederique Constant Runabout event. A select group of 200 clients and members of the press enjoyed a three-day event in the City of Water. A large fleet of Runabout boats, gathered specifically for this event proved to be stylish means of transportation and offered amazing views of Venice.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...BIG FOTO

During the actual Challenge, teams in each Runabout boat had to compete for the Frederique Constant Runabout Trophy. The event’s aim was to pay homage and to gather many of the remaining Runabout yachts. Yachts that today – as in their heyday – symbolize elegance, sophistication and ageless design. It is these characteristics that make the devotion of Frédérique Constant to Runabout boats so apt, so perfect, because those same values and qualities apply to the Runabout Collection.

Runabout
A Runabout is a gentlemen’s motorboat holding between four and eight people, well suited to moving about on the water. The first runabouts date back to the 1920s and were originally small, fast, powerful varnished wooden boats created to take advantage of the power of a V8 inboard engine. In order to gain speed, the hull shape had to be designed to take advantage of hydroplaning; a hydrofoil-like design would allow the boat to skim atop the water’s surface at high speed instead of needing to push aside large quantities of water to move forward. A classic Runabout boat is a design icon, a moving sculpture in wood, chrome and glass that commands attention wherever it goes.  Add to this a long list of famous owners and an association with exotic Mediterranean locations such as Monaco and San Tropez, and it is no wonder that the Runabout has, over time, become a legend. The iconic style of Runabouts frequently features in advertisements and editorials.

Hautlence - HLC 06 Rose Gold

Hautlence - HLC 06 Rose Gold NEW

LA CHAUX-DE-FONDS, June 2012 - Following on from the launch two years ago of the first models in the HLC line, Neuchâtel watch brand HAUTLENCE is launching an elegant rounded version, limited to 88 numbered pieces, which combines beauty and practicality while remaining true to the minimalist heritage of the very first line, the HL.

HAUTLENCE presents the rose gold HLC 06, inspired by minimalist art and the famed maxim of architect Mies van der Rohe: "less is more". A model stripped of all excesses; it features an opaline chocolate dial in an 18-carat rose gold case measuring 41 mm in diameter.
Taking the time display principle from its first calibre, the HL, the house movement has been rebuilt around the jumping hour and retrograde minute, both set harmoniously over 180 degrees. Playing with the repetition of the circles, right down to the sectors on the minute display arc, the redesigned face of the HLC represents a knowing geometric allusion to the repetition of infinity.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...  BIG FOTO

A complex piece with a streamlined aesthetic, the HLC 06 displays almost architectural features, such as the skeleton hour and minute surrounds and semi-opaque hour disc. The jumping hour and retrograde minute are driven by the ingenious HL patented mechanism, which combines the sliding movement of the snail feeler spindle's retraction with a gold inertia block acting as an inertia wheel and providing the energy required for the disc to jump.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

This mechanism is driven from the crown which, in keeping with an ergonomic and aesthetic whole, is situated at the 40-minute position. This 3rd in-house hand-wound mechanical calibre, with its Côtes de Genève and hand bevelling decorations on the bridges, sees HAUTLENCE consolidating its position amongst the leading watch brands and demonstrating its long-term vision.
