Hublot - Big Bang Ferrari

Hublot - Big Bang Ferrari

In Italy last November, Hublot and Ferrari announced their partnership that would make the Swiss ‘Maison’ the exclusive watchmaking partner of the Maranello-based Italian automobile manufacturer. This is not a simple agreement for supplying watches, licensing or sponsorship, but truly a 360° partnership that encompasses all key activities pertaining to brand image and sales activities, including production of a “Ferrari Official Watch” and a “Scuderia Ferrari Official Watch” as well as Hublot’s taking on the role of “Ferrari Official Timekeeper”, “Scuderia Ferrari Official Timekeeper” and “Ferrari Challenge Official Timekeeper.”

BIG BANG FERRARI TITANIUM and BIG BANG FERRARI MAGIC GOLD

BIG BANG FERRARI MAGIC GOLD

Announced by Jean-Claude Biver, Chairman of Hublot, and Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, President of Ferrari S.p.A. on the Mugello circuit, where the finals of the Ferrari Challenge are played out to close the Prancing Horse's racing season, the partnership marked the beginning of a truly collaborative effort on the foundation of shared values. As part of the BaselWorld, the world’s premier event watchmaking and jewellery industry, Hublot has unveil the first watch designed in partnership with Ferrari.

The Big Bang Ferrari marks an evolution the iconic Big Bang design – the first since the watch was launched in 2005 – that fuses style and materials and mechanics in way that uniquely addresses the respective DNA of Hublot and Ferrari: innovation, performance, technology and exclusivity.
The Big Bang Ferrari sports a larger case (45.5 mm in diameter) with a cylindrical bezel that dramatically showcases the movement visible through the sapphire dial. An indexed crown (with Hublot’s ‘H’ logo automatically positioning itself to remain in line) features elongated push buttons, fixed along a rotating axis like the pedals in a car whilst carbon inserts give the case distinctive look. The watch comes with two interchangeable straps with an innovative quick-change system inspired by the safety seatbelt mechanism. The tone on tone stitching is a nod to the signature upholstery craftsmanship typical of Ferrari. The minute counter, whose hands and indices recall a Ferrari dashboard, is positioned at 3 o’clock and complemented by date window in ‘Modena’ yellow. The legendary prancing horse is featured discreetly in relief at 9 o'clock.

The absence of superfluous accessories brings out the fusional and rational aspects of the Big Bang Ferrari’s unique design, a pure expression of the values that characterize the sports spirit of Ferrari and at the same time the inimitable Hublot style.

The UNICO movement can be compared to the best possible engine to power a racing car, and that it was selected, then designed and developed by Hublot to power the Big Bang Ferrari. With no fewer than 330 components, oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the column wheel and dual horizontal coupling on the dial side appear in a new constellation reminiscent of Ferrari alloy wheel rims. The timepiece has a 72-hour power reserve, and is water resistant to 100 metres.

Finally, the Big Bang Ferrari incorporates Magic Gold, the product of extensive R&D unveiled barely three months ago. Magic Gold is scratch-resistant 18-carat gold. The innovation and sophistication that went into the Big Bang Ferrari make it a new sign of recognition, different to the core from any watch presented before. This concept has even been extended to the presentation case for each watch – a true showcase inspired by an engine valve support, made from aluminium, with a built-in rotary system.

It has taken Armin Strom AG only a short space of time to establish itself in the small exclusive circle of watch Manufacturies. All components of the watch movements come from its own production in Bienne and are subsequently further processed in time-consuming manual operations. The skeleton watchmaking tradition of Armin Strom lives on in a modern form in the watches with their special movement architecture.
In November 2009, Armin Strom AG presented its first in-house production movement, the ARM09, with double going barrel and a power reserve of one week.

Less than two years later, the young team of highly-qualified specialists is already introducing its second own-production movement at Baselworld 2011.
Like ARM09, the AMW11 (Armin Manual Winding 11) is also a manual winding calibre, but with a power reserve of some 120 hours.

Revelation - R01 Double Complication

Revelation - R01 Double Complication Limited Editions

The R01 Double Complication is the debut launch from REVELATION

The movement of this Haute Horlogerie timepiece mysteriously appears thanks to an ingenious patented system. A secret catch within the case releases the bezel which triggers the first of the two complications: the REVELATION System®. Unique in watchmaking, this mechanism comprises two polarised crystal discs that connect with a double differential to gradually reveal the second complication, the Tourbillon Manège®.

This authentic "manufacture" movement is entirely hand-finished. Form meets function for the exceptionally distinctive case which interacts perfectly with the two complications. Each metal is proposed as a 15-piece Limited Series.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The proprietary Tourbillon Manège TM01 is the first calibre entirely conceived and developed by REVELATION. It is a new type of complication featuring an exceptional rotating regulating system. Fixed to the centre of the calibre, the carriage of the Tourbillon Manège® performs one rotation per minute.
The escapement specially designed for this complication makes the heart of the Tourbillon Manège® beat at the rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour. The four series-coupled barrels ensure a 48-hour power reserve for this hand-wound movement.

The entire production of the parts is directed by REVELATION which manages the 40 subcontractors handling the production of the 300 or so components making up the two complications of the R01 watch.
The movement mainplate and bridges are in nickel silver, which enables extremely clean and accurate machining that facilitates the bevelling and the finishing.
The carriage is machined in titanium to optimise its weight.
The various parts of the REVELATION System® are in rhodium-plated brass.
Each wheel is milled according to an optimised profile ensuring minimal energy loss between the barrels and the escapement.
The balance and spring assembly, in hard beryllium copper, was exclusively developed and produced for REVELATION.

Very thin low-reflective polarizer discs for watch applications
The highly promising young watch brand REVELATION decided to call on CSEM's expertise to create the polarizing discs that play such a key role in its patented innovation. Parts already available within the industry simply did not guarantee the optimal combination REVELATION's founders required. The aim - to open the watch to admire the mechanism while it's on your wrist. In the closed position - obtain maximum opacity along with the additional assurance of the watch remaining waterproof.
The REVELATION SYSTEM® - Polarizing discs coupled with a differential
Drawing upon their know-how and their cutting-edge equipment, CSEM engineers combined an existing treatment with one developed specifically for achieving the greatest possible transparency in the open position, maximum opacity in the closed position. This is made possible by an ingenious optical system coupling, when the bezel is opened, the rotation of two polarizing glass discs.
To ensure the discs play their "on/off" role correctly, REVELATION design engineers transformed the vertical bezel opening movement into a rotation.
CSEM technology inside
Polarization is a distinctive directional feature of light: light rays can be given a specific direction by passing them through a polarizing filter. By combining two polarizing filters, one can determine the direction of light, permitting it either to pass through the filters or not, depending on the orientation of the second polarizer.
The technological challenge lies in:

Reducing light loss by using anti-reflective sub-wavelength structures and the specific low-reflective materials of the polarizer, improving the visibility of the interior watch mechanism.
Enhancing light transmission to render the watch mechanism highly visible (open position). The incoming light must pass four times through the polarizers: after passing through the polarizers, the light is reflected by the mechanism and passes a second time through the pair rendering the mechanism visible when the polarizing discs are in a parallel orientation.
Ambient light being the only available light source, with no backlight involved. Light loss through the surface reflection of the polarizers needed to be reduced to provide good visibility of the watch interior, even at low ambient light levels.

Roger Dubuis - Excalibur Flying Tourbillon Chronograph

Roger Dubuis - Excalibur Flying Tourbillon Chronograph Limited Edition NEW

The limited-edition Excalibur Flying Tourbillon Chronograph with single-pusher has been created as a tribute to the Geneva Seal, which celebrated its 125th Anniversary in 2011.
Equipped with the new RD580 calibre and produced in a limited edition of just 8 pieces, this outstanding model was our first timepiece to obtain Geneva Seal certification according to the new, even more demanding specifications.
The Geneva Seal officially came into force in 1886. Bestowed by the State of Geneva on a select few watchmakers, it constitutes the official guarantee that the mechanical watch movement is hand-made, assembled and regulated in Geneva and that it respects the strict requirements of handcrafted excellence in watchmaking. Every component of a movement bearing the Seal is hand-finished and finely decorated, even those that are never exposed to view..

The new requirements outlined by the Geneva Seal – unveiled on 9 November 2011 – focus even more closely on customers and their expectations. While the conditions imposed up to now remain unchanged, new requirements now complement them. Principal change: from now on, the entire watch is Geneva Seal certified, no longer the movement alone. In addition, the Geneva Seal now certifies the functions claimed for the watch, for example water-resistance or the power reserve display.

At ROGER DUBUIS, adoption of the Geneva Seal goes hand in hand with the quest for excellence that has characterised the brand since its creation in 1995. As the company sees it, the Geneva Seal is not an end in itself: it is the starting point in the pursuit of excellence. That is undoubtedly why ROGER DUBUIS is the only watchmaking Manufacture to stamp the Geneva Seal on every single one of its products. It was true yesterday and it will be true tomorrow. A sign that leaves no room for error.

MANUFACTURE RODOLPHE CATTIN - Witness One

MANUFACTURE RODOLPHE CATTINWitness One Tourbillon  Basel 2012

The Manufacture Rodolphe Cattin introduces Witness One, a resolutely singular men’s watch. The openworked Tourbillon movement heights the depth effect created by the gear wheels and the pure mechanics of the movement, already dictated by the absence of a dial. The finely sandblasted surfaces, bevelled and diamond-polished hands, black gold-treated bridges are exactly the kind of finishes that forge the character of MRC timepieces. Finally, the Tourbillon placed at 6 o’clock and marking off the seconds dominates the front, while the three-arm “octopus spring” operating the pull-out piece, click and lever governs the movement visible through the caseback.

Bernhard Lederer – The Gagarin Tourbillon

Bernhard LedererThe Gagarin Tourbillon  Limited Edition

On the morning of 12 April 1961, in Tyuratam in the Kazakhstan
desert, now also known as the Baikonur Cosmodrome, a 27-year-old russian cosmonaut by the name of Yuri Gagarin walked out to the Vostok-1 rocket (a converted ballistic missile) and was strapped into the pressurised capsule on its nose.

At 06:07 UTC (09:07 moscow time) the rocket lifted off and just 10 minutes later, after accelerating the Vostok-1 to approximately 40,000 km/hr (27,000 mph), the final booster rocket burnt out and fell away.
Now floating weightless, Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space. Just over a hour later, retrorockets fired to slow the capsule down for re-entry into the earth's atmosphere.

At an altitude of 7,000 metres (23,000 feet) Gagarin parachuted out of his re-entry module and 10 minutes later landed safely near Engels in the Saratov region of russia. In just 108 minutes after take-off Gagarin had made a full orbit of the earth. For the first time, man had left our planet and returned. History was made.

The Gagarin Tourbillon features a 60 second flying orbital tourbillon that rotates counterclockwise around the dial counter in 108 minutes.
An integrated rotating magnifying glass allows appreciation of details on the dial. Looking through the loupe to the dial is reminiscent of looking out of the Vostok space capsule towards the earth.
The mechanical manual winding movement was entirely developed and produced by Bernhard Lederer in Switzerland.
The Gagarin Tourbillon is a Limited Edition of 50 pieces in platinum.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The Gagarin Tourbillon features a 60-second orbital flying tourbillon that rotates counterclockwise (symbolising east) 360° around the dial in 108 minutes, which is the time Gagarin took to orbit the earth in the Vostok capsule.
The tourbillon appears to be suspended by a sweeping bridge inspired by the large 25 m (82 ft) commemorative statue at Gagarin’s landing site near Engels.
The tourbillon cage is formed by the word “VOSTOK” spelt vertically and curved around its perimeter.

The dial of the Gagarin Tourbillon is composed of a central stationary sub-dial with hours and minutes, and an outer rotating ring with the orbiting tourbillon. The inner dial features micro-engraving marking highlights of Gagarin’s flight and a red arc indicating the period Gagarin experienced zero gravity.
The highlights of the inner dial are:
  • “Tyuratam 06:07 UTC” (9 o’clock) - the time and place of the launch (now known as Baikonur Cosmodrome)
  • “Bering Sea” (7 o’clock)
  • “Attitude Control On” (4 o’clock) - the capsule was fitted with a sun-seeking attitude control system to ensure it was orientated correctly for retrofire
  • “Retrofire” (12 o’clock) - at 07:25 UTC retro rockets fired for about 42 seconds approximately 8,000 km (5,000 miles) from the planned landing zone
  • “Separation” (11 o’clock) - at 07:35 the re-entry module separated from the capsule
  • “Engels 08:05 UTC” (9 o’clock) - Gagarin ejected the re-entry module at 7,000 m (23,000 ft) and landed 26 km (16 miles) southwest of Engels, Saratov region. The module’s parachute opened lower 2,500 m (8,200 ft) and landed 10 minutes earlier (07:55 UCT) - 108 minutes after taking off
Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The outer ring of the dial features a distinctive sweeping bridge apparently supporting the tourbillon inspired by the famous 25-metre commemorative statue near the Vostok landing site at Engels. The complete outer dial with tourbillon rotates anti-clockwise (east/vostok) in 108 minutes (the duration of the VOSTOK’s orbit).
Micro-engraved around the perimeter are the key statistics, “12 April 1961– Duration 108 mins – Apogee 327 kms”.

The mechanical movement of the Gagarin Tourbillon is manual winding with three mainspring barrels providing a power reserve of approximately 80 hours and the back plate is hand bevelled with Côtes de Genève waves.
The complex movement with 264 components and 35 jewels was entirely designed, developed and manufactured by Berhnard Lederer in Switzerland.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The case of the Gagarin Tourbillon is in high grade 950 Platinum and incorporates an integrated rotating magnifying glass that allows more detailed appreciation of the tourbillon and details on the dial.
The magnifying glass is locked in place by a catch inspired by a hatch on the Vostok capsule.
