Our beautiful Haute Horlogerie Real Moon Joure contains a specially made Green Meteorite dial bearing the most accurate 3D moon phase in the world ever incorporated in a mechanical watch.

WHAT IS METEORITE

A meteor is a space rock - or meteoroid - that enters Earth’s atmosphere. When meteoroids enter Earth’s atmosphere, or that of another planet, like Mars, at high speed and burn up, they are called meteors. This is also when we refer to them as “shooting stars.” When a meteoroid survives its trip through the atmosphere and hits the ground, it is called a meteorite. Most space rocks smaller than a football field will break apart in Earth’s atmosphere.

Traveling at tens of thousands of miles per hour,  the object disintegrates as pressure exceeds the strength of  the object, resulting a bright flare. Typically less than 5 percent of the original object will ever make it down to the ground. These meteorites, pieces of meteors that are found, typically range  between the size of a pebble and a fist.

Beautiful meteor showers

Several meteors per hour can usually be seen on any  given night. When there are lots more meteors, you’re watching  a meteor shower.

Some meteor showers occur annually or at  regular intervals as the Earth passes through the trail of dusty debris left by a comet (and, in a few cases, asteroids).

Why do we care about meteorites?

Meteorites that fall to Earth represent some of the original,  diverse materials that formed planets billions of years ago. By studying meteorites, we can learn about early conditions and processes in the solar system’s history.

These include the age and composition of different planetary building blocks, the temperatures achieved at the surfaces and interiors of asteroids, and the degree to which materials were shocked by impacts in the past.

What do meteorites look like?

Meteorites may resemble Earth rocks, but they usually  have a burned exterior that can appear shiny. This “fusion crust” forms as the meteorite’s outer surface melts while passing through the atmosphere. There are three major types of meteorites: the “irons,” the “stonys,” and the stony-irons. Although the majority of meteorites that fall to Earth are stony, most of the meteorites  discovered long after they fall are irons. Irons are heavier and easier  to distinguish from Earth rocks than stony meteorites.

How do we know where meteorites come from?

Most meteorites found on Earth come from shattered  asteroids, although some come from Mars or the Moon. In theory,  small pieces of Mercury or Venus could have also reached Earth, but none have been conclusively identified. Scientists can tell where meteorites originate based on several lines of evidence. They can use photographic observations of meteorite falls to  calculate orbits and project their paths back to the asteroid belt.

They can also compare compositional properties of meteorites to the different classes of asteroids. And they can study how old the meteorites are – up to 4.6 billion years. It is the oldest known  example of magma from space.

THE MOST ACCURATE
3D MOON PHASE IN THE WORLD

Our CVDK Real Moon Joure represents a special interpretation of our rotating  3-dimensional real moon indicating the true moon phase. The moon orbits around the earth every 29,530588853 days.

Our hand-made 3D miniature moon indicates the moon phase so  accurately that it deviates only one day  in 11,000 years. It is the most accurate  3D moon phase in the world ever  incorporated in a mechanical watch.

 TOCCATA COLLECTION, FOREVER ELEGANT

RAYMOND WEIL is pleased to unveil the new toccata collection. Inspired by the Art-Deco movement, these vintage-inspired watches encompass clean lines, sumptuous dials and are perfectly suited to any occasion. RAYMOND WEIL has employed its extraordinary creativity to produce a range of models that promise to deliver eye appeal for many years to come.

Art Deco, a movement in decorative arts, furniture and architecture, was very popular in Europe and the US during the 1920s and 30s. Linear and geometric designs, streamlining, long lines with crisp edges, symmetry, simplified figures and shapes are all associated with the Art Deco movement. Although this movement is approximately 100 years old, its allure has never diminished.

In 2020, RAYMOND WEIL looked to the past and created a new range of vintage-inspired watches within the toccata collection. The design of each model references the Art Deco movement with pure, crisp lines and beautifully defined details. In the spirit of continuous improvement, these new models are an evolution of what has gone before, however, they do not diminish the appeal of their forebears.

Housed in elegantly refined rectangular cases, these new creations exude a charming simplicity. Displaying merely the hours, minutes and date, there is a welcome purity to each dial option. Each watch is equipped with a Swiss quartz movement, delivering precision and obviating the need for regular winding.

The toccata collection offers cases in stainless steel or stainless steel suffused with yellow gold PVD plating. Strap or bracelet, Roman numerals or diamond-set indexes, the Swiss brand indulges would-be wearers with a beautiful selection of models to choose from.

However, the notion of choice ascends to new heights when it comes to the plethora of dial hues on offer. A striking champagne option, brooding shades of emerald green, black, ruby and a becoming shade of blue provide an abundance of choice.

Each model within the toccata collection is enriched with luxurious details. For example, the centre of each dial is endowed with a matte appearance, while the hour track is adorned with a sunray satin finish. The dial is dressed in a new lacquer finish, imbuing it with a charming radiance and heightening the overall sumptuousness.
