IWC – BIG PILOT’s Watch Edition Right-Hander

IWC SchaffhausenBIG PILOT’s Watch Edition Right-Hander - 2019

NEW “RIGHT-HANDER” EDITION

JOINS IWC’S BIG PILOT LINE

Schaffhausen, August 2nd 2019 – In a first for the company, IWC Schaffhausen has presented a new version of its coveted Big Pilot’s Watch to be worn on the right wrist. This special edition of the classic IWC model will be known as the Big Pilot’s Watch Edition “Right-hander”.

Inspired by the Big Pilot’s Watch Calibre 52 TSC from the 1940s, it has a generously proportioned case diameter of 46.2 millimetres, as well as the same eye-catching design seen throughout the family, which imitates easy-to-read cockpit instruments. The new twist for this revised edition is the positioning of the iconic, conical-shaped crown, which is located on the left-hand side of the case.

The “Right-hander” is much more practical to operate for those who wear their watch on the right wrist. Given that almost 40 percent of pilots are thought to be left-handed, and therefore wear their watches on the right, it is perhaps a fitting development for this IWC line, which has such a rich history in the field of aviation.

Commenting on the new model, IWC Schaffhausen CEO, Christoph Grainger-Herr said: “I’m delighted that we’ve revisited one of the most recognisable icons in the IWC portfoliofor this special edition. We are always striving to push the boundaries of engineering and design, and this new watch really exemplifies this drive. It has all the signature elements you’d expect, but with a crucial difference.”

Driven by an IWC-manufactured 52010 calibre, the “Right-hander” (Ref. IW501012) has a stainless-steel case with a soft-iron inner case, which protects the movement against the effects of magnetic fields. The automatic Pellaton winding is fitted with ceramic components and builds up a seven-day power reserve in the twin barrels. The strap is crafted in black calfskin leather.

The slate-coloured dial features a power-reserve display situated at “9 o’clock”, a small seconds hand at “3 o’clock”, and a date display at “6 o’clock”. The luminescent indices and hands guarantee optimum legibility, even at night or in poor visibility conditions.

An exciting addition to IWC’s portfolio, the new watch - released as an edition of 250 pieces - will be available at IWC Boutiques and authorised retailers from August 2019 with 3 months exclusivity in Australia and France.

Hermes – ARCEAU L'Heure De La Lune ONLY WATCH

Hermès ARCEAU L'Heure De La Lune White Gold 43 - ONLY WATCH 2019

Travelling in another dimension, cosmic and dreamlike. Setting foot on the moon and losing one’s sense of time and space. The Arceau L’heure de la lune ONLY WATCH offers a unique vision of Earth’s satellite with the simultaneous display of moon phases in both northern and southern hemispheres. Two mobile counters gravitate on a meteorite dial, revealing mother-of-pearl moons in step with an exclusive module, coupled with a Manufacture Hermès movement.

An offbeat expression of a classic horological complication, the Arceau L’heure de la lune watch offers an original interpretation of Hermès watchmaking expertise. Framed by a white gold case, the mechanics adopt a light, barely-there role. Meteorite inlaid with mother-of-pearl form a cosmos in which satellite dials float above hemispherical moons. These mischievous displays have swapped cardinal points, with the south above and the north below. A topsy-turvy direction inviting observers to lose their bearings, with their head in the stars…

The horse, representing the origins of Hermès, gallops elegantly into the world of dreams. At 12 o’clock, the moon is adorned by a Pegasus designed by the “dreamer-designer” Dimitri Rybaltchenko. Entitled Pleine Lune (Full Moon), this portrayal of the winged horse hints at a passage between two worlds, where magic and reality merge. On the other side, at 6 o’clock, the view of the moon from the northern hemisphere provides a realistic depiction of its surface.

The mobile counters displaying the time and date turn weightlessly to reveal the moon discs, while maintaining their horizontal orientation. This contemporary dance is choreographed by a module exclusively developed for Hermès and for which a patent has been filed. With a total thickness of just 4.2 mm, its 117 polished and bead-blasted components are incorporated within the Manufacture Hermès H1837 movement: a technical challenge designed to preserve the slenderness of the overall mobile chassis, which sweeps around the dial in 59 days. The mother-of-pearl moons set into the stone display the lunar cycles in the northern and southern hemispheres. This mysterious game of hide-and-seek reveals nothing of its technical complexity, so as to give pride of place to dreams.

Within this space-time, metal, stars and rock seamlessly merge the watch exterior with the movement to form an unprecedented technical and aesthetic display of simple and graphic readability. The double moon here eclipses a traditional aperture-type display, instead covering the entire surface of the dial. The result is a free-spirited and impertinent vision of mechanical watchmaking according to Hermès. The Arceau case with its asymmetrical lugs, designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978, becomes a lunar crater made of meteorite stone, while the lacquered dials, gravitating like satellites, display

Arabic numerals with a distinctive sloping font. This unique Haute Horlogerie timepiece is fitted with a matt alligator strap in graphite grey with a blue zephyr calfskin.

WHERE CAN I SEE
THE
ONLY WATCH COLLECTION
BEFORE THE
AUCTION?

ONLY WATCH UNVEILS THE 50 UNIQUE WATCHES THAT WILL BE AUCTIONED FOR THE 8TH EDITION OF THE BIENNIAL CHARITY AUCTION TO BENEFIT RESEARCH ON DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY

Under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and due to the initiative of Luc Pettavino, President of the Association Monégasque Contre les Myopathies, ONLY WATCH is proud to unveil today the names of the 52 watch brands participating in the 8th edition of the biennial charity auction benefitting research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, as well as the 50 lots that will be auctioned.

This exceptional and unparalleled project supports the battle against a devastating myopathy that affects 1 in 3000 male births on the planet by funding research.

It is expected, this year again, to become the most talked-about topic in the watchmaking industry.

I am grateful to all the watchmaking groups and independent brands participating in this 2019 ONLY WATCH edition demonstrating dedication and heart through their creativity and craftmanship for this year’s auction which promises to be, once again, record-breaking”, says Luc Pettavino.

These 52 brands will offer sought-after rarities that can be accessed nowhere else. Unique pieces showcasing the best savoir-faire in the horology world in all of its diversity.

For the second time Christie’s is the auctioneer of choice on November 9 when the 50 one-of-a-kind timepieces will be auctioned at the Four Seasons Hôtel des Bergues at 2 pm (UTC+1).

Christie’s is looking forward working once more closely with the Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies on their 8th edition of ONLY WATCH, under the guidance of Luc Pettavino. On behalf of Christie’s, I would like to extend my sincere Thank You to all involved in making this project a priority and to be present on 9 November in Geneva to compete for one – or more – of the 50 unique and specially made timepieces for ONLY WATCH”, commented Earl of Snowdon, Honorary Chairman Christie’s EMEA

Ahead of the auction, this unprecedented watch collection will be exhibited to the public from 25 September 2019 to 9 November 2019, in 10 different cities around the world. This world tour will be starting in Monaco, during (and on the site of) the Monaco Yacht Show.

  • Monaco         25 to 28 September    at the Monaco Yacht show
  • Dubai            1 to 3 October              at Christie’s in association with Seddiqi
  • Paris              7 to 8 October             at Christie’s
  • London         11 to 13 October          at Christie’s
  • New York      16 to 17 October          at Christie’s

  • Singapore     25 to 26 October          at Malmaison by the Hour Glass
  • Hong Kong   28 to 29 October          at Christie’s
  • Taipei            30 to 31 October          at Christie’s
  • Geneva         7 to 9 November          at Four Seasons Hôtel des Bergues

Since its creation in 2005, ONLY WATCH has raised over CHF40 million. Again, 100% of the proceeds achieved with the 8th edition of the charity auction will be directly invested in scientific and medical research on neuromuscular diseases in general and on Duchenne muscular dystrophy in particular. An achievement made possible by to the generous donation and participation of the 52 watch brands, the partners offering a variety of services and logistical support, the media offering substantial coverage and, of course, the auctioneer, Christie’s.

With ONLY WATCH everyone creates beauty to do good, meaning in this case supporting the work of dozens of researchers around the world, financing studies, purchasing material, creating biotech companies in the chemistry and biology sector… to bring this science to the clinic and one day maybe to find a cure. We have done a lot already and are conscious that there is still much to be done and that this initiative needs, more than ever, help and support.” Luc Pettavino.
