PILOT’S WATCHES OUT ONTO THE RUNWAY

Schaffhausen, 2 October 2017 – IWC Schaffhausen launches new models in the Pilot’s Watch collection. The Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “Antoine de Saint Exupéry” is the latest special edition created in honour of the French pilot and author. The Big Pilot’s Watch Heritage is available with a case in either titanium or bronze and takes its inspiration from the historical Big Pilot’s Watch (Calibre 52 T.S.C.). Finally, IWC is also unveiling the compact Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII­ Heritage in a retro design with a black dial, numerals printed in beige, and blue hands coated with luminescent material.

The Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “Antoine de Saint Exupéry” is limited to 250 pieces: in 18-carat red gold with a brown dial and gold-plated hands (Ref. IW502706).

The tobacco brown dial and the brown calfskin strap with decorative white stitching are reminiscent of the pilot suits from the era of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

The annual cal-endar displays the month, date and day in three separate windows and only requires adjustment once a year, at the end of February. The IWC-manufactured calibre 52850 boasts a Pellaton winding system with components in virtually wear-free ceramic and generates a 7-day power reserve in two barrels.

A special feature of this watch is the rotor in solid 18-carat red gold in the form of a Lightning P-38: it was in this particular model of aircraft that Saint-Exupéry took off on a reconnaissance flight across the Mediterranean from which he never returned. This watch is just the latest in a series of timepieces created by IWC to highlight its long-standing partnership with the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Foundation.

IWC is also presenting further new products in the form of Pilot’s Watches in the striking retro design of the historic Big Pilot’s Watch (Calibre 52 T.S.C.) from the 1940s.

The Big Pilot’s Watch Heritage is available in two different models: in titanium with a black dial and blue hands coat-ed with luminescent material (IW501004) and in bronze with a black dial and blue hands coated with luminescent material (Ref. IW501005).

The edition in bronze is limited to 1,500 pieces. Both watches are driven by the IWC-manufactured calibre 52110 with a Pellaton winding system and a 7-day power reserve.

With the Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII Heritage, IWC has recreated the iconic Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII in a titanium case for the first time: in titanium with a black dial and blue hands coated with luminescent material (Ref. IW327006).

All three watches are worn with a brown calfskin strap and are fitted with the tried and tested Pilot’s Watch technol-ogy from IWC: a soft-iron inner case keeps the move-ments safe from magnetic fields and the sapphire glass on all models is specially designed to be protected against sudden drops in pressure in the cockpit.

Forging links between Horween and Mido

After the success of the first Multifort made with Horween leather in 2015, Mido and the prestigious American brand have renewed their fruitful collaboration by launching a new model: the Multifort Escape Horween Special Edition. Combining the best of Swiss watchmaking with leather from one of the most renowned tanners, this timepiece creates a link between two companies who share the same values of quality, tradition and timelessness. Boasting a robust 44mm stainless steel case with aged and sandblasted black PVD treatment, the Multifort Escape Horween Special Edition is perfectly suited to every occasion, thanks to its two easily interchangeable Horween leather straps. The first is in brown genuine calfskin while the second is in black genuine calfskin, American football-style. And that’s not all: on the technical side, the watch is equipped with the Caliber 80, an automatic movement at the cutting edge of watchmaking innovation, providing up to 80 hours of power reserve. The Multifort Escape Horween Special Edition is designed for those who want to escape the daily grind and seek new horizons.

Launched in 1934, two years after the Sydney Harbour Bridge was completed, the Multifort collection shares the structure’s remarkable qualities – a perfect blend of functionality and beauty. A truth that has stood the test of time, as Mido celebrated the 80th anniversary of Multifort production in 2014, making this emblematic collection one of the longest-produced series in the history of Swiss watchmaking.

After the first successful collaboration in 2015 with the launch of a Multifort with a Horween leather strap, a limited edition for the US market, the two brands have furthered their fruitful partnership with the launch of the Multifort Escape Horween Special Edition.

This original model, designed for those in search of new horizons, comes with a sturdy 44mm case in stainless steel with aged and sandblasted black PVD treatment. The wide opening of the black dial is decorated with vertical Geneva stripes. It is also protected by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The large touches of beige Super-LumiNova® on the numerals, the skeleton hour and minute hands, and the tip of the seconds hand ensure perfect readability in all conditions. The date is displayed in an aperture at 6 o’clock.

Inspired by a Multifort of the 1940s, the Multifort Escape is Mido’s largest three-hand model. This special edition is supplied with two easily interchangeable Horween leather straps: the Essex, in brown genuine calfskin, whose patina will develop over time, with black stitching, and American Football in black genuine calfskin with beige stitching – the official leather used by Horween to manufacture American footballs for over 70 years. Both are fitted with a stainless steel pin buckle with aged and sandblasted black PVD treatment.

The Multifort Escape Horween Special Edition is equipped with the Caliber 80, an automatic movement at the cutting edge of watchmaking innovation, providing exceptional autonomy of up to 80 hours of power reserve. Thanks to the transparent case back, enthusiasts of fine watchmaking mechanics can admire the finely decorated Elaboré-grade movement, which features an oscillating weight adorned with Geneva stripes and the Mido logo. The Multifort Escape Horween Special Edition is water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m/330 ft).
