Reverso Tribute Gyrotourbillon,
a Grande Complication model celebrating
the
Reverso’s 85 th anniversary in styl

A veritable masterpiece showcasing the watchmaking skills and rare crafts (Métiers Rares®) cultivated by Jaeger-LeCoultre, the Reverso Tribute Gyrotourbillon is a stellar creation within the new 2016 collection. Its elegant and sophisticated case houses a movement equipped with an unusual Gyrotourbillon®. Vividly embodying the signature horological sophistication of Jaeger-LeCoultre on both faces, it springs a number of surprises including an entirely openworked back dial. This platinum model is issued in a 75-piece limited series.

Jaeger-LeCoultre wished to offer devotees of fine objects a sleek and refined watch accommodating the complexity of the Gyrotourbillon®. The master-watchmakers of the Manufacture have drawn upon the full force of their talent in creating a remarkably well-proportioned movement.

The Reverso Tribute Gyrotourbillon is 30% trimmer in terms of both width and thickness. For a Grande Complication movement, this accomplishment testifies to remarkable virtuosity. This timepiece is thus entirely in line with the spirit of the Hybris Mechanica line, a collection of fascinatingly technical and beautiful models that epitomise the watchmaking genius of the gifted artisans exercising their art within the Grande Maison.

Equipped with the Jaeger-LeCoultre manually-wound Calibre 179, entirely developed and produced in the Manufacture, this creation reveals an all-new Gyrotourbillon®. Now performing its rotation by means of an external driving mechanism, it appears to be floating in mid-air.

This enables a spectacular plunging view of the light, airy architecture. Pared down to their slimmest possible form, the two carriages of this bi-axial flying tourbillon perform an external rotation in one minute and an internal rotation in 12.6 seconds.

The gaze can thus linger on the balance-spring hand-crafted in the workshops of the Manufacture. Its hemispherical shape is bound to catch the attention of those who will recognise the additional difficulty and precision involved in such a design. This delicate and exclusive balance-spring is a token of expert technical mastery that is also exercised on the Gyrolab® balance-wheel, distinguished by a non-circular configuration that considerably reduces air friction. Shaped like the Jaeger-LeCoultre anchor symbol, this component represents a decisive breakthrough in terms of the watch’s precision.

THE DUO CONCEPT ASSOCIATED WITH RARE CRAFTS (MÉTIERS RARES®)

The front of the Reverso Tribute Gyrotourbillon features a finely grained white round dial swept over by blued steel Dauphine-type hands and evoking the noblest traditions of horological sophistication. An elegant day/night indicator appears at 11 o’clock, while the seconds are displayed in an unusual manner by means of a graduated disc rotating at the cadence of the Gyrotourbillon®, with a small blue arrow placed on its left serving to read off this indication. A hand-crafted sunburst guilloché pattern accentuates the refinement of this side and echoes the finishing on the watch cradle.

There is something uniquely exciting about swivelling the case to savour a second face that both stimulates curiosity and heightens desire. The surprising back of the Reverso Tribute Gyrotourbillon majestically demonstrates the art of the Manufacture’s engravers. The entirely openworked movement with its bridges hand-decorated by these skilled artisans creates a remarkable effect on this back dial.

The inherent difficulty of this remarkably delicate workmanship is compounded by a sizeable watchmaking challenge, since the sheer slenderness of the movement makes it a particularly risky exercise. The dual-time display and the Gyrotourbillon® stand out against the intricate downstrokes and upstrokes of the openworked movement. This side also carries a day/night indicator in 24-hour mode at 2 o’clock as well as a small seconds hand driven by the tourbillon.

Swivelling the case also reveals a cradle that is gently curved to follow the shape of the wrist. This area adorned with a sunburst guilloché motif leaves a small round, smoothly polished surface just below the position of the Gyortourbillon®, thus enabling a full view of the show performed by this major complication when the case is fitted inside its cradle.

What finer invention could one imagine to celebrate the birthday of the iconic Reverso than this exceptional creation – a limited edition that is heralding a new chapter in the history of this model so deeply cherished by devotees of beautiful watches since 1931.

MONTBLANC – 4810 TwinFly Chronograph Transatlantic Edition

MONTBLANC 4810 TwinFly Chronograph Transatlantic 110 years Limited Edition NEW

Montblanc 4810 Collection

Montblanc marks its 110th anniversary this year with a new 4810 Collection, building on this best-selling line that was first presented in 2006 for the Maison’s centennial celebrations.  The new 4810 Collection respects all the codes of Montblanc’s watchmaking, with its strong, elegant and sporty design, offering a new sophisticated interpretation of this much loved 4810 Collection for the modern traveller who needs a performance timepiece he can rely on.

Worldwide timekeeping and highly functional chronometry – the  transatlantic travellers of the early 20th century would have found  this timepiece’s two complications immensely useful: a 24-hour  display with day & night indication for a second time zone and an  in-house developed TwinFly chronograph.

Highly functional manufacture complications are an integral part of Montblanc’s horological offering, as the new Montblanc 4810 TwinFly Chronograph Transatlantic Limited Edition illustrates so well.  This flyback chronograph allows the wearer to time one event, and then stop, reset and restart the chronograph with just one press on the pusher at 4 o’clock.  This TwinFly function not only restarts the central chronograph seconds hand (in blue), but also the central minutes chronograph hand (in red gold), sending both hands back to zero and instantly restarting them for a new time measurement. Another pusher at 2 o’clock starts and stops the chronograph, while the pusher at 4 o’clock also returns the chronograph to 0 when it has previously been stopped.

Driving the functions of the Montblanc 4810 TwinFly Chronograph Transatlantic Limited Edition is the Maison’s self-winding Calibre MB LL100.1 that has been developed and assembled entirely in-house and features both a chronograph and a dual time indication via an additional central hand (the dual time function on the MB LL100.1 has the same functionality as the one on the Heritage Chronometrie Dual Time).  The chronograph mechanism uses a traditional column wheel and a vertical clutch system to start and stop the chronograph with perfect precision. Two barrels ensure a 72-hour power reserve so that the wearer can comfortably leave the watch over the weekend and then strap it right back on the wrist on Monday morning without missing a beat.

On the aesthetic side, all the familiar Montblanc design codes can be found in the Montblanc 4810 TwinFly Transatlantic Limited Edition, starting with a 43 mm steel case and a large opening for the silvery-white guilloché dial, whose pattern depicts an exploded view of the iconic Montblanc Star. The hours are marked by alternating red gold-plated Roman numerals and baton indexes, while the hands are a mix of baton and skeleton designs and point to scales that run around the dial, indicating the seconds and the minutes with utmost precision. Each hour is also accentuated by the addition of a SuperLumiNova®* dot for improved visibility at night, and the minute scale includes red numbers at each 10-minute mark for greater legibility during the day.

For the functions, the hour and minute hands are indicated with red gold-plated, sword-shaped hands, while the second time zone is shown via a highly readable skeletonized blue sword-shaped hand (for home time when travelling). Setting the local time is an extremely fast and precise affair, as the seconds don’t stop when the crown is pulled out. Moving onto the subdials, small seconds are displayed by a red gold-plated hand with a red tip in the subdial at 6 o’clock.  This subdial also doubles as a date indicator with a large red arrow pointing to the date. At 12 o’clock, the subdial illustrates a map of the world that reveals whether it is day or night in the home time when travelling and links back to the pioneering spirit of transatlantic travel.

Limited to 1,110 pieces, the Montblanc 4810 TwinFly Chronograph Transatlantic Limited Edition comes fitted with an elegant black alligator strap.
