HYT – SKULL MAORI Limited Edition

HYTSKULL MAORI Limited Edition NEW

Let time look you straight in the eyes!

“Simply taking an existing movement, giving it a vague skull shape and presenting it as an entirely new piece is not really our style.”

Vincent Perriard, HYT CEO, gets straight to the point – The Skull, HYT’s new extraordinary and unprecedented creation, breaks all the rules. You don’t need to be an expert to appreciate the power of its design. Even at first glance the Skull makes a striking impression, simply because it epitomises and at the same time breaks away from everything that HYT represents. It is provocative, unique and has a bold design supported by the fluid mechanics that have become the brand’s signature style. The Skull speaks for itself. Its development, however, was anything but obvious.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...          BIG FOTO

When asked what the driving force behind the creation of the Skull Maori was, HYT Art Director Xavier Casals discussed the desire to further emphasise the skull shape of the piece by using a rare and traditional hand engraving, a beautiful Metier d’Art. Casals added that the use of the Maori tribal tattoo, often associated with a skull, was another integral part to the concept.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...          BIG FOTO

Intelligent watch-making

The use of a capillary, which carries a fluid to act as the hour marker, is a concept that is already mastered by HYT and its partners. However, any significant changes in form require extensive background work. For the Skull, the skull shape of the tube, which measures less than one millimetre in diameter, was a significant challenge in itself. The issue centred on the capillary’s four angles, two of which are almost 90° at the base. These curves meant that bending the glass was a particularly delicate task.

"Their vertical structure, developed for the H1 watch, served as our starting point. However, we then had to re-examine how to generate enough power to move through these sharp angles, whilst ensuring that the fluid always indicates the correct time, moving at the right speed and with perfect regularity over twelve hours”.

Recapturing the essence of time

In line with the raw, primitive imagery of the skull, HYT also decided to do away with the minutes. This bold choice has two consequences. Firstly, it shifts the main focus to the capillary, the only sensory indicator of time as it passes, and secondly it centres all the attention on the piece’s architectural design, with its assertive, confident skull, which occupies almost the entire surface of the dial. Similarly, in stark contrast to its other pieces, HYT chose to almost completely hide the movement on the dial side.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...          BIG FOTO

To breathe life into the skull, HYT instead introduced a number of new developments. Firstly, the two vertical bellows function continuously – it is their subtle expansion and contraction which causes the fluid to move.

In addition, the eyes of the Skull have a life of their own. The right eye indicates the power reserve of the watch. Using a series of subtly different translucent coloured inserts, the eye gradually darkens as the piece nears the end of its 65 hours of power. The left eye hides a barely visible seconds dial which rotates continuously. You only have to look the Skull in the eyes to observe its spirit and the life, in the most literal sense, flowing at its heart. In both cases, a subtle honeycomb pattern provides the background and adds depth to the eyes. The skull itself is not inert - its movement operates constantly. It is alive, in the truest sense of the word: it has a soul. This is the first watch creation in which, instead of observing the time, time watches you.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...          BIG FOTO

Family likeness
“We always want to see how far we can go in terms of design and engineering. Our objective was to create a Skull that completely breaks away from everything you normally see, while still embodying the very DNA of HYT – a bold, conceptual, technical, and original design”, Vincent Perriard explains.

The changes don’t stop at the movement, however. A new 51 mm case has been specially created for the Skull, with the addition of new, crisp angled lugs. The single assembly push- button of the crown, which adjusts the time, is located between 2 o'clock and 3 o'clock. The crown protector has been removed. Lateral inserts have also been added to the case, allowing multiple future combinations.

The Skull Maori is offered now in a very limited version, a fifteen-piece limited edition.

H. MOSER & CIE. – VENTURER Big Date

H. MOSER & CIE.VENTURER Big Date

THE BIG DATE IS ONE TO WATCH

Neuhausen am Rheinfall, November 3rd, 2015

H. Moser & Cie. is adding to the Venturer family with a big date model, featuring the Flash Calendar which has brought the company's date movements such recognition. Its design is perfectly in tune with the characteristics which have ensured the success of the Venturer collection: uncluttered lines, a curved profile with a convex sapphire crystal, an extremely refined bezel that opens up the dial completely and the off-centre small seconds at 6 o'clock, in reference to the aesthetic of antique pocket watches.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                      BIG FOTO

The Neuhausen-based manufacture has dedicated the very best to every element of its Venturer Big Date. It is one of the largest and easiest to read date displays available; and its movement, as with all the company's date models, is equipped with the Flash Calendar mechanism.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                      BIG FOTO

This system has two major advantages: the instantaneous date jump at midnight, and the option to adjust the date forward or backward at any time without restriction. Another remarkable technical feature is that it is possible to make manual adjustments to the date using the crown at any time, even if the date is in the process of changing, without any risk of damaging the movement.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                      BIG FOTO

This is achieved with the complex clutch mechanism which isolates, and thereby protects, the date adjustment system. The desire for rigour and accuracy led the watchmakers at H. Moser & Cie. to design the Double Pull Crown mechanism, also found on the Venturer Big Date: there is therefore no risk of making changes to the date when the time is being set as it is necessary to pull out the crown, briefly release it, and then pull it out a second time to adjust the time on the watch.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                      BIG FOTO

Thanks to its uncluttered lines, the Venturer Big Date retains all the elegance of the Venturer family in this 41.5mm case. The dial, available in an argenté version or in sumptuous red-gold fumé, is revealed under the convex crystal and emphasised by the bezel, which has been stripped down to only the essentials. At 3 o'clock, a window opens onto a very big date, the secret behind which is two overlaid discs: the upper disc bears the numerals 1 to 15, whilst the second disc has the numbers 16 to 31. This ingenious system also guarantees that each numeral is perfectly centred when displayed in the date window.

Developed especially for the Venturer collection, the hand-wound calibre HMC 100 correlates with the watch family's design, with a streamlined construction, understated decoration and engraving which all perfectly complement the purity of the Venturer dial. Visible through the sapphire case-back, the double barrel of this movement means the Venturer Big Date has a power reserve of at least 7 days. Isochronism and accuracy are also guaranteed by the Moser interchangeable modular escapement, produced in-house with an original Straumann Hairspring® that has a Breguet overcoil.

Classic, timeless elegance meets modern design and technical ingenuity: the Venturer Big Date from
H. Moser & Cie. is a watch that must be seen.

MONTBLANC – Classique Date Automatic

MONTBLANC Star Classique Date Automatic NEW

Classique Timekeeping with a guilloché Face

Restarting its passion for timeless watchmaking, Montblanc presents two new models in its Star Classique Date Automatic line with exquisite flinqué guilloché dials.

First unveiled in 2012, Montblanc’s Star Classique Date Automatic collection combines the very best of Montblanc’s pure and refined watchmaking aesthetic with the essential in horological functions—hours, minutes, seconds and a date. This year, the Maison welcomes two new models — in steel or two-tone steel and rose gold — endowed with traditional flinqué guilloché dials, bringing one of the most appreciated and respected decorative arts to the collection.

Dating back to the 15th century, guilloché is a decorative engraving technique that produces intersecting wavy or straight lines onto the surface of a material with the utmost precision. The process was first used on wood and ivory before being adapted to watchmaking in the 18th century, using engine-turning machines to engrave the surfaces of silver and gold watch dials. The possibilities for guilloché patterns are endless, although designs such as the wavy flinqué motif, the Clous de Paris with its tiny pyramidal shapes, and the soleil pattern with its lines that resemble rays of sunshine, have been favourites of Swiss watchmakers for over two centuries.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...              BIG FOTO

Montblanc has adorned a number of its collections with guilloché designs, such as the Villeret Metamorphosis II with its Clous de Paris decoration, and the Star 4810 collection with its exclusive undulating star motif. For the latest additions to the Star Classique Date Automatic collection, the Swiss watchmaker has created silver-coloured flinqué guilloché dials with wavy patterns that radiate out from the centre of the dial. This mesmerising rippled effect is accentuated by the slimmest case in Montblanc’s collection and a narrow bezel that opens the dial up for maximum effect.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...              BIG FOTO

True to the style of traditional Swiss timekeeping, the dial features elegant red gold plated hands and a date at three o’clock, providing excellent readability at a simple glance.

An expert eye will spot that the indexes and Arabic numerals are slightly thinner and smaller in these two new models for a more elegant look that better complements the flinqué guilloche dial. With its slightly curved lugs that follow the contour of the wrist, the Star Classique Date Automatic collection is not only graceful on the wrist, but is also extremely comfortable too.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...              BIG FOTO

Like with all of Montblanc’s timepieces, it is not only about the aesthetics, equal attention has been paid to providing exemplary performance. Powered by Montblanc’s calibre MB 4810/408, the Montblanc Star Classique Date Automatic ensures the utmost in timekeeping precision and reliability. Finished to the finest standards of Swiss watchmaking tradition, the movement is on full view through a sapphire crystal case back on the back of the watch.

Expertly crafted with the unmistakable style of traditional Swiss watchmaking, the new Montblanc Star Classique Date Automatic presents yet another timeless classic, now with the addition of magnificent guilloché dials. Both versions are 39mm in size and will be available in boutiques from October 2015.

The A&S1615 movement with unique skeletonised pyramid-shaped architecture, was conceived, designed and developed in-house. Inspired by the regulators created by John and Roger Arnold over two hundred years ago, and by antique British skeleton clocks, the new Arnold & Son Time Pyramid offers a highly cohesive and seductive blend of watchmaking feats that includes regulator, skeleton, vertical linear movement, pyramid-placement of components and multi-dimensional depth.

The skeletonised calibre A&S1615 follows the original regulators from the brand with its component positioning and detailed 3D visual appeal. Movement parts and watch indications are built on three levels, with the subsidiary seconds dial on the bottom, the hour indications on a sapphire crystal dial in the middle level, and a silver top ring for the minutes indication.

While the movement is extremely thin - at just 4.4 mm - the multiple levels bring amazing depth and detail to the watch. To further enhance the balance and symmetry of the Time Pyramid, the crown (with Arnold & Son’s eng six o’clock.

The gear train runs vertically in a linear format connecting the two barrels at six o’clocktothe balance wheel at twelve , ando’clockendowingthe movement with its pyramid structure. The bridges are designed so that all of the wheels, the two mainspring barrels, the escapement and balance wheel are all magnificently visible from the dial side.

Additionally, the movement is fitted with two power reserve indicators –one each on either side of the linear gear train – to display the energy level for each barrel separately. The power reserve hands indicate the reserve level via graduated dots (that are printed under the top sapphire crystal) in an arc format, and demonstrate how one barrel transfers energy to the second one when needed. Essentially, as the first barrel winds the second one, the power reserve indicator of the first barrel goes down, while the second one goes up –making for an accurate and intriguing readout. The two mainspring barrels supply the hand-wound calibre with an amazing 90 hours of power reserve, and provide a more constant force to the wheel train.
