For decades the company specialized as an atelier Manufacture finishing and assembling movements for other watchmakers, with each successive generation of master watchmakers passing down their expertise to the next generation.

 

And when you happily discover not only a large supply of historic movements in an old company warehouse, but also the original tools, machinery and notes to work on them,  you can create a new series of watches based on these classic calibres, the Armand Nicolet O.H.M (Original Historical Movement) collection.

One of the new watches that Armand Nicolet has announced in anticipation for Baselworld 2014 is such a timepiece, the limited edition L14 O.H.M. This contemporary styled timepiece bears a grey openworked dial that proudly displays the 1957 Unita UT 600 movement used as the base of the mechanical hand-wound Calibre AN 0711C, which has 18 jewels and a 36-hour power reserve.

 The base movement has not only been restored and reassembled by hand, but also tuned and decorated using a mix of traditional processes and modern high precision machinery, creating a historic movement that matches modern calibres for precision and reliability.

The L14 O.H.M comes in a black DLC-coated stainless steel case and matching black alligator strap with buckle, and as Armand Nicolet only have a very finite number of authentic 1957 Unita UT 600 movements, only 499 will be produced.

Housed in a 44mm steel case, an automatic winding mechanical movement regulates the beat of this maestro Phase de Lune, providing it with a power reserve of 38 hours. Level with the case rim, and almost imperceptible, four correctors enable the adjustment of the months at 2 o’clock, the round date at 4 o’clock, the moon phases at 8 o’clock and the days of the week in the window at 10 o’clock.

All these complications are orchestrated by a ballet of blued hands that sweep over a silver dial; one of these, delicately tipped with a crescent moon, points to the circular date. Watchmaking classicism prevails with the alligator style leather strap dressed in black and secured by a steel Ardillon buckle.
