Vulcain - 50's Presidents Watch «Edition France»

VULCAIN - 50's Presidents  Watch «Edition France» NEW

The Manufacture Vulcain pays tribute to France in a 50-pieces limited edition of its famous alarm timepiece, the 50s Presidents’ Watch. A fine way of celebrating the long-established ties between the Swiss brand and the land of luxury, elegance and refinement.
France has always held a special place in Vulcain’s history since it was founded in 1858. Creations by the Manufacture soon achieved impressive success on this market. In 1889, at the World’s Fair held in Paris at the foot of the recently erected Eiffel Tower, Vulcain attracted attention with its rich range of simple or complicated pocket-watches. These included the “La Vallée de l’Arve” Grande Complication model with grand strike, minute repeater, perpetual calendar and moon phases that won a bronze medal.

France also played a key role in the birth of the Cricket calibre that earned Vulcain international fame. In 1943, at a time when Vulcain’s Managing Director Robert Dittisheim was seeking to develop the first genuinely functional wristwatch capable of awakening even the deepest sleeper, French physicist Paul Langevin paid him a visit in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
During a stroll through the garden, the latter assured him that of a tiny creature like the cricket could make a sound that was audible from a distance of 30 metres, a small case housing a complex mechanism must be able to match such a performance. Buoyed by this scientific support, Robert Dittisheim pursued his research that was to lead in 1947 to the launch of the calibre with twin calibres (one for the movement and the other for the alarm) named the Cricket as a nod to the insect’s strident song.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The Cricket watch appealed to many prominent statesmen, including Truman, Eisenhower, Nixon and Johnson – a fact that earned it the famous moniker as “The watch of Presidents” or “The Presidents’ Watch”. It was also a great success in France, even starring on the wrist of Eddie Constantine in Votre dévoué Blake, a film directed by Jean Laviron and released in 1954. Since Vulcain’s return to the forefront of the watchmaking scene, the French market has always been among the leading followers of the brand and of its new models. French retailers have also proven extremely active in supporting this renewal, and the Manufacture is keenly aware of the daily significance of their backing.

A STYLISH LIMITED SERIES

In homage to France and to the enthusiasm for the brand shown by French customers, Vulcain is innovating by introducing its first ever watch specifically dedicated to a nation. This 50-piece limited edition of the iconic 50s Presidents’ Watch features a 42 mm steel case housing the legendary mechanical manually-wound Cricket V-16 alarm movement equipped with the brand-patented Exactomatic system ensuring improved rating regularity on the wrist. Particular care has been lavished on the polished and satin-brushed finish of the case that lends a chic and vintage touch. The sunburst silver-toned dial with applied hour-markers is distinguished by its aura of elegant understatement expressed through hours, minutes and seconds hands along with a date window at 6 o’clock. Finally, the owner of this limited-edition timepiece can precisely adjust the alarm time thanks to a central hand tipped with a black arrow gliding across the graduated scale around the outer rim of the dial.

The case-back is engraved with the name of the watch, the individual series number as well as a crown of laurels – a symbol of strength, of victory and accomplishment – as well as of peace, knowledge and creativity. One also notes the choice of the colour blue for the Vulcain logo, the sweep seconds hand and the alarm markings. The sapphire crystal window provides an admirable view of the refined movement finishing (Côtes de Genève, anthracite treatment, blued screws and openworked ratchet-wheel), topped by the V for Vulcain. Each of the watches in this special edition comes with its individual certificate.

ATELIER DU BRACELET PARISIEN - ABP
Paying tribute to French expertise, tradition and excellence, the Manufacture Vulcain has chosen to associate with the famous ABP company located in Paris on the Marché-Saint-Honoré. “Leather artisan, time machine, zoo or travel agency”: the Atelier du Bracelet Parisien (ABP) is all of that rolled into one.

Above all, it is a firm dedicated to hand craftsmanship. All the straps and other products are entirely made in the Parisian workshop. Enthusiasts can choose from a vast array of hides, colours, shapes, tanning processes and thicknesses. Each strap is thus entirely hand-crafted according to the most stringent quality criteria.

CORUM - Ti-Bridge Titanium Bridge Power Reserve

CORUM - Ti-Bridge Titanium Bridge Power Reserve 2013

Two new additions to the iconic Corum Bridges collection :
Ti-Bridge Power Reserve.

Confirming its commitment to research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Corum creates a one-of-a-kind version of the Ti-Bridge with linear 3-Days Power Reserve indicator for ONLY WATCH. This unique piece offered in a two-tone titanium and red gold case features an engraving of Asclepius and his snake-entwined staff, the symbol of medicine – an allegory celebrating the work of the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy.

Corum is associating with the 5th edition of the “ONLY WATCH” charity auction scheduled for September 28th 2013 in Monaco. Organized by the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy, the auction will bring together around 40 watch brands and all profits will serve to fund research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

In honor of this worthy cause, Corum is donating a unique Ti-Bridge 3-Day Power Reserve model combining appealing aesthetics and a top-flight mechanism. This timepiece beats to the rhythm of a horizontal inline baguette movement, patented by Corum and held by four cross-bars. The model redesigned on this occasion features a play on materials expressed in two-tone gold and titanium. While the upper surface of the case glows with the restrained elegance of grade 5 titanium, the sides are made from 5N 18K red gold, adorned with modeled engraving. The association of the two materials is eminently modern and makes a perfect match with the architectural codes of the watch. The applied logo and hour-markers are gilded, as are the hours and minutes hands and the power-reserve indicator, thereby creating a striking contrast with the anthracite grey dial.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The engravings on the side of the case depict Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine, and the serpent twined around his staff that has become the symbol of medicine – a fine allegory and a paean of praise to the ONLY WATCH initiative. The engravings are entirely hand- crafted using a time-honoured technique requiring meticulous artistry. The process involves an extremely accurate set of gestures that begins with working on the reliefs so as to define the contours of the motifs. This operation is followed by high-precision line engraving performed using an instrument known as a scorper and serving to mark out the details of the motif, such as the veins of the leaves or the scales of the serpent. It is the latter operation that truly gives life to Asclepius’ face and makes this one-of-a-kind model a genuine work of art. The background is then reworked by hand using a chasing tool and a punch to achieve a regular matt effect, a texture that makes a delightful contrast with the shiny décor and thereby sets it off to full advantage.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The Ti-Bridge 3-Day Power Reserve powered by Caliber CO107 displays the hours and minutes as well as a linear-type power-reserve indication. To achieve this, the movement is equipped with a satellite gear train that is visible when looking at the watch from the side along the 9 o’clock – 3 o’clock axis, but invisible when this Ti-Bridge is viewed from the front. This complication features several specific characteristics, including a differential system with three wheels of which one is off-centered and referred to as “planetary”. Depending on the rotation direction, the latter turns either on its own axis, or around that of the two other wheels, thereby connecting the barrel, the winding stem and the power- reserve within a minimal space. This one-of-a-kind model comes on a rubber-look leather strap fitted with a titanium triple folding clasp complete with two safety pushers.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The Ti-Bridge Power Reserve “ONLY WATCH” will be on show during the world tour of the ONLY WATCH exhibition starting September 6th 2013 and making stopovers in Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, New York and Geneva, before being presented at the Monaco Yacht Show from September 25th to 28th. The auction itself will take place on September 28th at 11 am in the Salon Belle Epoque of the Hermitage Hotel in Monaco, France.

Original movement by George Graham

Friend of astronomers, such as Sir Isaac Newton or Edmond Halley, he created the first mechanical solar system model, in 1713. The invention was presented to Charles Boyle, 4th Earl of Orrery, from which all such tellurians and planetariums take their name. The Orrery overturned the conventions of watchmaking and astronomy…and it was 300 years ago!

It would have been unforgiveable for GRAHAM to miss the 300th anniversary of the invention of the Orrery. That is why GRAHAM presents the highest level of innovation in watchmaking with his Orrery wrist machine.

Valbray - Oculus V.02 Grand Dateur Limited Edition

Valbray - Oculus V.02 Grand Dateur Limited Edition NEW

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The Valbray story starts in 2009 when two passionate people, an engineer and a designer, crossed paths…

Young and talented, Côme de Valbray and Olga Corsini, shared a rich experience in the luxury industry, a profound interest for the watchmaking world and the dream to propose their creativity in complete independence. At that time, Olga was working on a collection for a High Jewelry Parisian Maison and Côme was responsible for fabrication processes at a Swiss high-end watch manufacturer. Passionate about photography and optics, subjects of his end-of-studies thesis, Côme saw one day Olga’s designs inspired by spiral sea-shells and found a resemblance to a diaphragm system. The idea to create timepieces with a modern and timeless design based on this complex mechanism crossed his mind.

One year later, the first prototype was realized and the feasibility of the aperture mechanism was validated.
A meeting of chance and the tenacity of a research gave life to Valbray

Côme de VALBRAY & Olga CORSINI

Design
The V.02 collection is a nod to the symbolism and balance of the circle, a shape apparent constantly on the watch: from the wheels of date and seconds to the “ring” of the bezel and the flange, circularity imbues the timepieces with its allure.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The “turning” effect is accentuated by the engravings on the bezel that follow the shape and the position of the shutter’s blades. The sensual ovoid case shape is emphasized by the chamfers all along the pure side line. is A small touch of impertinence is present on the dial with the use of half hours at 3.5 and 8.5, while the refined design of the multilayered dial and the path of the hours testify to the meticulous style of the Valbray watches.

The back of the V.02 depicts its intriguing poetry. The engraved phrase “La vérité d’un homme c’est d’ abord ce qu’il cache”1 reminds that to truly understand a man you need to slowly discover his secrets, like every small detail of these unique watches

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Oculus System
Its second collection focuses on circularity as a way to enhance the interactivity of the watch. The innovativeness of the V.02 collection lies in the re-engineered patented diaphragm system that progressively unveils the dial functions.

This version, even smaller (with a diameter of 43mm), allows intermediate openings in its course, thus permitting a step by step reading of time. The V.02 timepiece becomes therefore the first in which a different function is displayed at each circular opening phase, with the obturator acting as a cursor to the underlying dial.

Mouvement

The Oculus V.02 Grand dateur collection is equipped by a swiss automatic movement displaying the hours and minutes, a big date and little seconds hand. The movement V.CA2 is an ingenious association between functionality and aestheticism.
Before being assembled, each movement has to pass multiple tests of control and adjustment to achieve the reliability and accuracy standards required by Valbray.
The exclusivity and uniqueness of each watch is certified by its own certificate of authenticity.

ARNOLD & SON - HM Perpetual Moon

ARNOLD & SON - HM Perpetual MOON NEW

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size..   BIG FOTO

In true Arnold & Son tradition of watches with astronomical indications, the brand has released one of the most alluring and precise moonphase watches. The HM Perpetual Moon, with one of the biggest moonphase apertures on the market, rightfully joins the Arnold & Son Royal Collection. The Royal Collection is inspired by the timepieces created in the early part of John Arnold’s life, and pays tribute to the watches he produced for King George III and members of the royal court.

The timepieces in the Royal Collection demonstrate the brand’s prowess in traditional watchmaking and classical decorative arts. The sophisticated HM Perpetual Moon is, indeed, a superb example of Arnold & Son’s technical and artistic excellence. From the inside out, this new timepiece – with rich guilloché moon disc and engraved moon – surprises and delights. It houses the exclusive Arnold & Son mechanical hand-wound movement, the calibre A&S1512

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size..   BIG FOTO

                                                                         A&S1512
Exclusive Arnold & Son mechanical movement A&S1512, big perpetual moon, precise over 122 years,
second moonphase indication on the back for setting purposes
                                                              © Arnold & Son

This calibre was especially developed for this model with the objective of offering a uniquely precise, big and three-dimensional moonphase. The calibre is also equipped with a double barrel to yield 90 hours of power reserve. The HM Perpetual Moon offers one of the most accurate moon phases on the market, with only one day’s deviation every 122 years – at which point a single push on the corrector will keep it in sync for another 122 years. The exceptional perpetual moonphase indication of this watch is a marvel in many ways. From the aesthetic side, the 29 mm moonphase disc, which runs from 10 to 2 o’clock on the dial, reveals one of the largest moons on the market – with a diameter of 11.2 mm for the moon alone.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size..   BIG FOTO

Additionally, this large moon is one of the most visually stunning recreations of the moon because it is a three-dimensional sculptured moon that was first hand-engraved and then duplicated for the series. The sculptured moon is then inserted into the disc. From the technical side, in addition to the HM Perpetual Moon being so precise, it is also an intriguing complication in that it is not simply a module added to the movement, but, in fact, is fully integrated into the calibre. The watch also has a unique easy-to-set feature thanks to the ingenious addition of a second moon indication installed at the back of the movement.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size..       BIG FOTO

This second moon display, visible via a transparent case back, features a graduated dial and a pointer hand that allows for a more exact setting. The multiple technological advancements in the calibre make this timepiece truly outstanding. To further underscore that, the entire rhodium treated nickel-silver movement features hand finishing indicative of the finest Haute Horlogerie timepieces, including manually chamfered bridges with polished edges, Côtes de Genève rayonnantes and fine circular graining, circular grained wheels, and blued screws with polished and chamfered edges. The timepiece naturally features an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and case back to view the meticulous details. The HM Perpetual moon measures 42 mm in diameter in its classically elegant 18-carat red gold case. Viewed from the side, the housing is stepped and tapers from top to bottom, the widest section accommodating the extra-large glass with the lower part narrowing to fit snugly on the wrist. Each is finished with an exquisite hand-stitched alligator strap. In all, the HM Perpetual moon is a beguiling work of technical mastery and fine art.
