Boegli Watch Company of Geneva, renowned Swiss manufacturer of musical wrist watches unveils its new limited edition Grand Opéra collection in round case. After more than 10 years of making square musical watches, in 2012 the brand decided to make a round case version.

One of the highlights of the new collection is the complex dial which has three levels and is held in place by blued steel screws. A further highlight is the fine “Côtes de Genève” finishing of the musical movement plate. Through a window in this cleanly decorated plate, the beautiful mechanical musical movement with its 17 notes keyboard and polished drum is perfectly visible. The dial indicating the hours and minutes features a discreet yet legible date display at the six- o’clock position. The time dial is presented on a deeper level than the main dial, focusing the attention on the time display.

The Boegli watch company has developed a new operating function, which, for the first time – like a ball pen – can be switched on and off by pressing the pusher. Creating a meteorite case is a labor-consuming and highly technical work. First the meteorite solid block is cut into parts, then the bars are cut into case forms, after which the mechanical finishing starts, which consists of:

• carving holes and deepenings on the cases (a place of the crystal fixation, a hole for the crown and others);
• the case's polishing or oxidating (depending on its structure);
• the meteorite case's gilding or rhodium-coating (to protect the movement).

Gibeon is an iron meteorite, consisting of iron (91,7 %), nickel (7,7 %), cobalt (0,5 %), phosphorus (0,04 %) and also traces of gallium, germanium, iridium. It was discovered in 1836, had fallen down on Earth about 500 000 years ago. It's age is about 4,6 billion years. 26 tons of fragments were found.

Meteorites can be stony, iron-stone or iron in their structure. The most common are the stony meteorites (92,8 % of the falling). 1,5 % of the falling meteorites are iron-stone and 5,7 % – iron.

To mark its 180th anniversary, Swiss luxury watch brand Longines introduces two new models: Longines Telemeter Chronograph and the Longines Tachymeter Chronograph, which represents both the brand’s rich history and extend Longines’ Heritage segment with a combination of extraordinary technical features and a touch of elegance.

Longines has been based at Saint-Imier, Switzerland, since 1832. Longines - Telemeter Chronograph NEW

One of the significant characteristics of this timeless and elegant model is its telemeter scale on the dial, inspired by a beautiful chronograph produced by Longines in 1933. Telemeter scales were initially introduced around 1852 to measure the distance travelled by sound. Activated right after the flash of lightening and stopped when the thunder is heard, the hand of the chronograph shows the distance in kilometers of the phenomenon.

The circular steel case with a diameter of 41 mm houses the caliber L688, a self-winding mechanical movement with a column-wheel chronograph mechanism exclusively developed for Longines, which can be admired through a transparent case back. The chronograph is equipped with a date aperture at 4h30, a small second at 9 o’clock, a 30-minutes counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hours counter at 6.

Besides the appealing technical features, The Longines Telemeter Chronograph also attracts the eye by its harmonious design embodied by a subtle fusion of tradition and a contemporary spirit. The white lacquered dial with 9 black Arabic numerals features the red telemeter scale and a spiral tachymeter scale in the same colour. The blued steel Breguet hands, indicating hours and minutes, add a touch of elegance to this exceptional model fitted on a black alligator strap.

Longines - Tachymeter Chronograph NEW

The Longines Tachymeter Chronograph features a technical tool initially introduced around 1811 to measure the hourly pace in assembly lines, as well as the velocity of the first modern means of locomotion: the tachymeter. To measure the hourly pace, the chronograph is started at the beginning of a task and stopped once the task is completed. The hand then shows the average production pace per hour. To find out the velocity of a subject, the chronograph is activated at distance zero and stopped once the distance of one kilometre has been covered. The hand then indicates the average velocity in units measured.

The Longines Tachymeter Chronograph now combines in a very unique way the technical specifications of a tachymeter with the values of the brand, namely tradition, performance and elegance. The circular steel case with a diameter of 41 mm houses the caliber L688, a self-winding mechanical movement with a column-wheel chronograph mechanism exclusively developed for Longines, which can be admired through a transparent case back. The model features a date aperture at 4h30, a small second at 9 o’clock, a 30-minutes counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hours counter at 6.

Besides its extraordinary technical features, the model stands out with its remarkable design. The white lacquered dial is inspired by the one of a chronograph developed by Longines in 1934 and contrasts perfectly with the black Arabic numerals, the tachymeter scale in blue (1000 m) and red (100 m). A subtle touch of elegance is added to this model by its blued steel Breguet hands indicating hours and minutes and the blued steel counter-weight line pear hand indicating the seconds. To complete the traditional yet contemporary design of the model, it is mounted on an elegant black alligator strap.
