JAEGER-LE-COULTRE - Duometre a Spherotourbillon

JAEGER-LE-COULTRE - Duometre a Spherotourbillon

Jaeger-LeCoultre continues to be one of my favorite watchmakers. Form and function coalesce to produce the most striking timepieces. Take for example the gorgeous Spherotourbillon. Most tourbillons, many agree, aren't practical in a wristwatch. Its standard design coupled with the position in which a wristwatch is worn combine to produce a watch, that while technically brilliant, does little in the realm of improved accuracy.

In the past decade several watchmakers, including Greubel Forsey, Jaeger LeCoultre, and Zenith have tried to solve this issue by creating innovative multi-axis tourbillons that provide superb accuracy no matter the position in which they are worn.

Jaeger LeCoultre's Gyrotourbillon 2 is one of my favorite timepieces of all time. Not just for being drop-dead gorgeous, but for having a truly useful tourbillon.

The Spherotourbillon from the Duometre collection (which feature two separate mechanisms) is Jaeger's latest attempt at combining form and function in an elegant timepiece.

A pusher located at 2, when activated in conjunction with a pulled-out crown, provides a reset for the seconds hand with no loss of precision. This innovation produces a tourbillon like no other. The tourbillon itself is inclined at 20 degrees and spins on two axes - one rotates every 15 seconds, the other every 30 seconds.

Another masterpiece from JLC. Not as awesome as the Gyro 2, but still very special.

Breitling - Bentley GMT "V8"

BREITLING for Bentley Bentley GMT "V8"
To celebrate the launch of the Continental GT V8 with its ultra-powerful new 4.0 V8 engine – the latest tour de force from the Bentley engineers – Breitling has created a 250-piece limited series of the Bentley GMT chronograph.

Its signature feature is the mobile inner city bezel distinguished by a metallic red shade creating a powerful and sporting contrast with the black dial. This vivid touch of colour refl ects the red background of the Bentley emblem that sets the Continental GT V8 model apart from other models by the British carmaker. The original and daring design of the steel case with its asymmetrical lugs is teamed with a bracelet or a rubber strap exclusive to this model.

A natural-born traveller, the Bentley GMT boasts an ingenious multiple timezone display system. It is equipped with a red triangulartipped additional hour hand completing one rotation every 24 hours. The pushpiece housed in the left side of the case serves to move this hand forward in one-hour increments in order to display the second timezone – while distinguishing between day and night hours. Thanks to a rotating inner bezel bearing the names of the 24 cities, the user can also instantly read off the time in all the world’s timezones in relation to that shown by the 24-hour hand. The selfwinding chronograph movement, chronometer-certifi ed by the COSC, offers another technical asset exclusive to the Breitling for Bentley collection: a “30-second chronograph” with a sweep seconds hand making one full turn of the dial in half a minute and thus enabling readings accurate to the nearest 1/8th of a second. With the Bentley GMT “V8”, it’s defi nitely time for performance.
