Jaeger-LeCoultre - Duomètre Unique Travel Time

Jaeger-LeCoultre - Duomètre Unique Travel Time Limited Edition

Press release

The Grande Maison in the Vallée de Joux undeniably owes its incredible destiny to the inventive spirit of its founder. Since 1833, every watch bearing the Jaeger-LeCoultre signature is crafted with the same passion, guided by a constant quest for technical enhancement. Each masterpiece, heir to 180 years of expertise, benefits from state-of-the-art research.

A fresh interpretation of the revolutionary Dual-Wing movement created by Jaeger-LeCoultre, the Duomètre Unique Travel Time watch reflects the technical breakthroughs achieved by the Manufacture in the field of GMT watches and offers original solutions to travellers with a love of Fine Watchmaking.
For the first time ever on a worldtime watch, this model enables the user to adjust the time in the travel time zone to the nearest minute. The worldtime function thus enables travellers to adjust their time-zone display to all continents and countries, whatever the time-zone difference.
In keeping with the technical and aesthetic spirit of the creations by the Duomètre line signed Jaeger-LeCoultre, the Duomètre Unique Travel Time watch reveals the various facets of horological excellence by the Manufacture in the Vallée de Joux. It asserts itself as an absolute reference in terms of mechanical watchmaking and of the intrinsic elegance with which all creations from the Grande Maison have been imbued since 1833. Past, present and future converge in perfect harmony in this exceptional creation, exclusively presented at the inauguration of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Boutique on the Place Vendôme in Paris.

For this new movement, the Dual-Wing system is divided into two distinct mechanisms: the first is devoted to displaying the local time, and the second to show that in a second time zone. The two mechanisms share the same regulating organ but each has its own independent source of energy, thereby avoiding the losses due to interaction between the mechanisms. The operation of the dual time-zone display does not in any way influence the running of the watch, a fact that considerably enhances the precision of the watch.
Each mechanism has a 50-hour power reserve and, governed by a wish to achieve ideal user-friendliness, the same crown serves to wound both barrels. The timekeeping barrel is wound by a counter-clockwise rotation, and the travel-time barrel by a clockwise rotation.
Act II: given the complexity of the functions, the finely grained dial provides impeccable clarity. Two magnificent symmetrically arranged subdials lend a perfectly balanced touch to this horological creation: the first subdial at 2 o’clock sets the stage for the hour and minute hand; while the second at 10 o’clock hosts the hour and minutes of the worldtime. Two red 7 and 9 numerals specially applied on the dial pay tribute to the address of the Jaeger-LeCoultre
Boutique.
Beckoning observers to travel and presented like a globe, the day/night indication and the hours disc are placed at 6 o’clock, a location that considerably facilitates their read-off. The single crown is used to adjust the travel time zone in position 1, and the local time in position 2, as well as to wind the mainsprings when in position 1. Turning the crown in a clockwise direction winds the standard time indication and, turning it in the opposite direction winds the travel time-zone indication.

Act III: Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 383, a remarkably beautiful and exquisitely finished movement is revealed through the sapphire crystal caseback. Its bridges and gear trains are hand-chamfered and feature polished sinks. The moving parts, also hand-chamfered or adorned with polished sinks, are graced with a snailed or smoothed finish. These decorative touches are clearly inspired by the grand tradition of the brand’s pocket-watches and lay new milestones through their exceptionally refined finishing. The engraved names of the cities corresponding to the world’s 24 time zones are also visible through the back.

Issued in a 100-piece limited series in 18-carat white gold, the Duomètre Unique Travel Time watch has been specially produced for the inauguration of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Place Vendôme in Paris, where it will be available as of November 20th. A worthy heir to the Duomètre line, it is a celebration of technical and precious Fine Watchmaking, vividly illustrating 180 years of history while prefiguring the watchmaking of tomorrow.

CHOPARD - Classic Racing NEW collection SUPERFAST

CHOPARD - Classic Racing NEW Сollection  SUPERFAST

Superfast – A Mindset

The Classic Racing collection, paying tribute to the automobile world, is now enriched with three outstanding watches auguring a new era for Chopard. The sporty, sophisticated and powerful Superfast Automatic, Power Control and Chrono are indeed fitted with Chopard movements from our Fleurier Ebauches workshops, becoming the first watches in this iconic collection with movements entirely designed, developed and assembled in-house.

Superfast models are intended for devotees of fine watchmaking capable of taming the inevitable feeling of power they procure. Generously sized while displaying bold lines and a resolutely virile design, these three new Superfast models carry references to the world of competitive car racing.
The dial of each model displays silver brushed vertical lines against a black background evoking the cooling fins found on air-cooled racing engines. On the inner bezel ring, the minute numerals adopt the appearance of the markers that adorn sports-car rev-counters and
speedometers. The hour, minute and seconds counters provide the legibility required in tense situations.

The natural rubber strap carries the smooth tread of the slick tyres immediately identifiable with high-speed track motor racing. A multitude of other elements – such as the Classic Racing collection’s steering wheel logo on the rubber-moulded gold crown, the grooves engraved on the sides of the lugs – continuing the Superfast’s cooling-fin theme, rubber-coated pushers for better grip, as well as the Allen screws on the bezel inspired by those on car-wheel rims – all refer to the world of auto racing.
Even the movements have been specially prepared. All the bridges are openworked with thin parallel lines in the style of cooling vents on sports cars – an unusual finish which allows the inner workings of the movement to be tirelessly admired through the transparent case-back.

he Classic Racing collection, encompassing models inspired by the world of car racing, is now enriched with three superlative watches heralding a new era for Chopard. The Superfast Automatic, Superfast Power Control and Superfast Chrono are indeed the first watches in this iconic collection to be equipped with Chopard movements entirely designed, developed and assembled in-house, in the Fleurier Ebauches workshops.

Chopard is laying a new milestone in its rich history. The Classic Racing collection, which features timepieces paying tribute to the automobile world, is welcoming three new highly distinctive Superfast models. The sporty, sophisticated, powerful and imposing Superfast Automatic, Power Control and Chrono are all equipped with Chopard movements from the Fleurier Ebauche workshops. These three exceptional creations represent a further step along the path towards independence – an ideal deeply cherished by Chopard.

For many years, the House of Chopard has been a loyal partner of legendary classic car races, including the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique and the Mille Miglia – a rally covering 1,000 miles (1,600 km) running from Brescia to Rome and back. While the former involves cars that have made their mark on their respective eras – such as Delage, Bugatti, Aston Martin and Ferrari models; the latter also attracts historical Formula 1 cars built before 1979, headlined by Brabham, Lotus and Williams models. The SuperFast collection now takes the world of precision watch-making to thrill-seeking sports-car drivers who are not afraid of power.

Sleek and imposing
Superfast models are generously sized while displaying bold lines and a resolutely virile design. Now equipped with a specially decorated in-house movement, they are intended for devotees of fine watchmaking capable of taming the inevitable feeling of power they procure. These three new Superfast models carry a number of references to the world of competitive car racing, starting with the dial of each, displaying silver brushed vertical lines against a black background evoking the cooling fins found on air-cooled racing engines. On the inner bezel ring of the new Superfast watches, the minute numerals adopt the appearance of the markers that adorn sports-car rev-counters and speedometers. Equipped with a 18-carat rose gold folding clasp, the natural rubber strap carries the smooth tread of the slick tyres immediately identifiable with high-speed track motor racing.

Openworked bridges for original finishing
Even the movements have been specially prepared. All the bridges are openworked with thin parallel lines in the style of cooling vents on sports cars – an unusual finish which allows the inner workings of the movement to be tirelessly admired through the transparent case-back.

 Chopard - Calibre - 01.02-M

Displaying hours, minutes and seconds, as well as the date through a window at 6 o’clock, the new Superfast Automatic is equipped with self-winding Chopard Calibre 01.01-M, a movement entirely designed, developed and produced in Chopard’s Fleurier Ebauches workshops. This calibre is chronometer-certified by the COSC and has a comfortable 60-hour power reserve. Its 41 mm-diameter case in 18-carat rose gold is water-resistant to 100 metres.

Chopard - Calibre - 03.05M

Another variation on this exceptional movement also drives the Superfast Power Control model. This evolved version named Chopard Calibre 01.02-M offers a range of functions comprising hours, minutes, small seconds at 6 o’clock, the date through a window at 3 o’clock, and a power-reserve indicator in a sector-type display at 9 o’clock. The even more imposing 18-carat rose gold case boasts a generous 45 mm diameter.

Equally powerful and equipped with a 45 mm-diameter case, the Superfast Chrono houses Chopard Calibre 03.05-M, a mechanical self-winding movement powering hours, minutes, small seconds at 6 o’clock, a window-type date display between 4 and 5 o’clock, a tachometric scale engraved on the bezel, and a chronograph with sweep seconds hand, minute counter at 3 o’clock and hour counter at 9 o’clock.

A further step towards independence

These Chopard movements, which for the first time equip models in the Classic Racing collection, are produced in the Fleurier Ebauches workshops. This company was founded by Chopard in July 2008 in Fleurier, in the Val-de-Travers region (Canton Neuchâtel) in order to produce in-house movements for Chopard. Several months earlier, in December 2008, Chopard had acquired a 6,000 m2 plot of land that already housed an industrial building with a 5,100m2 production surface area. Entirely renovated and equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, the new company premises were inaugurated in February 2009.

Endowed with an annual production capacity of 5,000 movements in 2012 (a figure that is expected to rise to 15,000 movements/year by 2015), Fleurier Ebauches expresses the determination of Chopard co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele to strengthen the group’s vertical integration in order to ensure its long-term independence, while also increasing production.

In 1996, the group had already created Chopard Manufacture, a company located near Fleurier Ebauches and which represents the Haute Horlogerie division dedicated to developing, producing and assembling L.U.C calibres. The Chopard Group currently employs around 160 people in Fleurier, exercising 15 or so different professions.

Biography - RENÉ BANNWART (1915 – 2010): Founder of CORUM

"The prestigious key, which marks the Corum creations, opens the doors of time and is the best symbol of the work always more perfect and more complete. » René Bannwart

Born March 16, 1915 in Zurich, René Bannwart spent his childhood in Basel before joining Geneva to study at the Business School where he developed his passion for business.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

With a watchmaking experience acquired from the most prestigious watch manufacturers, René Bannwart began his professional adventure at Patek Philippe in 1933 before joining Omega in 1940 where he established the first creative department and launched watch models which still today remain the talking pieces of the Brand. At Omega, he strengthened his expertise in watchmaking during 15 years. With a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a will to create his own watches, he founded Corum in 1955 with his uncle Gaston Ries. In 1958, he signed his first success with the model "Sans Heures" where time was only indicated by the hands on the dial. In 1966, a new interpretation of this model is embodied with the model Romvlvs (today one of the 4 key pillar of Corum) whose hours in Roman numerals are engraved on the bezel.

René Bannwart known for his humanist and aesthetic values has been able to reach his ambition by creating a Company that shines today in the constellation of the Haute Horlogerie. He leaves behind him as much a beautiful human than a watchmaking tale. Passionate and generous, he earned the trust and deep respect of his colleagues, clients and employees by building lasting friendships and sincere relationships.

Loyal to the golden rule used in creation, he was known for his sense of detail and artistic qualities. The strong creativity instilled by René Bannwart to Corum has been expressed, throughout its history, by many outstanding creations.

In 1958, launch of the Golden Tube model, a tube of gold in which the movement is inserted. This creation is behind the famous Golden Bridge model (1980), the first baguette movement that symbolizes the technical and watchmaking mastery of Corum and now part of the CORUM BRIDGES pillar.

In 1960, the first interpretation of the “Admiral’s Cup” model with a square case was developed. This was the first ever water-resistant square watch! In 1983, the famous Admiral’s Cup was reinterpreted in its emblematic design version (twelve-sided bezel, 12 nautical pennants) helping it to become the leader.

In 1964, the “Coin Watch” without back cover was created with an ultra-flat movement that is set in an authentic gold coin, a $20 Double Eagle Coin. This model was worn by numerous U.S. Presidents and prominent civilians. The watchmaking history and the watch aficionados will also remember the feathers dial (1970), the Rolls-Royce model (1976) pioneering the partnerships with the prestigious car manufacturer Brands, as well as the meteorite dials (1986) and the Tabogan watch (1997) whose ingenious mechanism allowing the watch to be turned into a table clock which has been patented.

In 2010, Corum celebrated its 55th Anniversary and celebrates the half century of the Admiral's Cup collection whose iconic design has been created at the time by the son of Rene, Jean-René Bannwart; and 30 years of the Golden Bridge. The heritage which was founded in the heart and skill of one man, René Bannwart, has provided to the Brand deep and solid roots which has been revived by its current CEO Antonio Calce, who has taken back the fundamental strategy of the Brand since his arrival in 2005.

On January 13, 2010, René Bannwart passed away.
