Breitling has announced the launch of a very special timepiece to celebrate its new partnership with MR PORTER, a company that has established itself as the leader in online luxury retail for men. The Navitimer Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph 43 Limited Edition is part of the Navitimer 8 collection that Breitling introduced to great acclaim earlier in 2018.

The Navitimer Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph 43 Edition
The Navitimer Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph 43 Limited Edition will be produced in a series limited to 1000 pieces. Its beating heart is the Breitling Manufacture Caliber B01, which has been regarded by experts and enthusiasts alike as one of the world’s finest mechanical watch movements ever since it was created. Like all Breitling watches, the Navitimer Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph 43 Limited Edition is a COSC-certified chronometer.

This timepiece is a study in style, featuring an elegant silver dial and anthracite contrasting chronograph with small seconds subdials. Its cuttingedge move ment is visible through a transparent sapphire case back, while a distinctive satinbrushed bezel features indexes and Arabic numerals in addition to its practical pointer.

The watch is presented on a brown leather strap. The limited edition will be available exclusively from MR PORTER as of June 4, 2018. From July onwards, it will also be available in Breitling Boutiques and se lect Breitling retailers around the world.
A Strong Link to Breitling’s Aviation Heritage
The Navitimer 8 collection was inspired by the Huit Aviation Department, which was established by Willy Breitling in 1938. The division’s name was taken from the French word for “eight,” reflecting the need for cockpit instruments of the day to have an eightday power reserve. Even then, Breitling had already estab lished itself as a leader in aviation instruments, a status it maintains to this day.

The Navitimer 8 watches recall the design values of the Huit Aviation Department and one of Breitling’s truly iconic pilots’ watches, the Reference 768, whose rotating bezel and distinctive triangular pointer made it a favorite among aviators.

The Future Was in the Skies
In 1932, chronographs were very much at the heart of Breitling’s business, but chronograph wristwatches were still operated by a single pusher. Willy Breitling saw this as a deficiency, and, in 1934, he filed a pat-ent for the world’s first two-pusher chronograph.

In 1936, the young entrepreneur introduced a specially designed aviator wrist chronograph with a black dial and luminescent numerals and hands. Willy Breitling had seen Breitling’s future, and it was in the skies.
Instruments for Professional Aviators
Among Willy Breitling’s most celebrated achievements was the establishment of the Huit Aviation Department in 1938. He was aware of the strict requirements for military and civil aviation, and the Department’s name – the French word for “eight” – was chosen to recall the eight-day power reserve offered by onboard clocks and other dashboard instruments. The clocks devel-oped by the Huit Aviation Department were also distin-guished by their lightweight cases and their ease of installation, and the Department was also responsible for the development of Breitling’s wrist chronographs for aviation use.

The timing of the foundation of the Huit Aviation Department was fortuitous: its products immediately attracted the attention of military aviators and, as World War II approached, the Department received a large order for onboard chronographs from the Royal Air Force for its legendary fighter planes.

Willy Breitling and his team understood that aviators – both civilian and military – work in demanding, unfor-giving environments that require instruments that are not only highly legible but also capable of maintaining outstanding functionality even in particularly harsh conditions.

Accordingly, the Huit Aviation Department developed a battery of challenging tests that proved each instrument could handle the shocks, vibrations, extreme temperatures, and magnetism that pilots were likely to encounter in the cockpit. And its onboard chronographs and pilot’s watches passed every test with flying colors!
