MIDO – MULTIFORT Chronograph Adventure

MIDOMULTIFORT Chronograph Adventure Caliber 60 NEW

A timepiece full of character for straying off the beaten track

Those who enjoy straying off the beaten track now have a timepiece that reflects their ambitions: the Multifort Chronograph Adventure. An extraordinary model full of character, this new addition to the Multifort collection is designed for adventure. Its robust anthracite PVD-treated steel case extends into a magnificent genuine brown perforated calfskin strap. Featuring a colour combination not often seen in watchmaking, this is an utterly unique sport-chic timepiece. The Multifort Chronograph Adventure is powered by the Caliber 60, a latest-generation automatic chronograph movement that guarantees up to 60 hours of power reserve.

Launched in 1934, two years after the Sydney Harbour Bridge was completed, the Multifort collection shares the structure’s remarkable qualities – a perfect blend of functionality and beauty. A truth that has stood the test of time, as Mido celebrated the 80th anniversary of Multifort production in 2014, making this emblematic collection one of the longest-produced series in the history of Swiss watchmaking.

Whether on a trek through Patagonia, a safari in Tanzania or a rally in the heart of the Sahara Desert, the Multifort Chronograph Adventure will be at home on the wrists of all those who love the great outdoors and unknown territory. Resistant to all kinds of impact, its 44 mm diameter case is made from anthracite PVD-treated steel. It protects a magnificent anthracite dial decorated with vertical Geneva stripes evoking the suspension cables of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Several dots of brown Super-LumiNova® on the indexes and hour and minute hands ensure perfect readability in all conditions.

Those wishing to stray off the beaten track can count on the exceptional autonomy offered by the latest-generation automatic movement equipping this model. At the cutting edge of watchmaking innovation, the Caliber 60 ensures up to 60 hours of power reserve. The central seconds hand and the snailed counter at 3 o’clock are dedicated to the chronograph function. The snailed counter at 9 o’clock indicates the seconds, while the date appears in an aperture at 6 o’clock. The latter can be easily changed using a quick corrector located on the side of the case at 10 o’clock.

In addition to these technical assets, fine watchmaking enthusiasts will appreciate the model's exceptional elegance and strong character. This sense of refinement is created by the brown and black colour combination adorning the case and strap – a duo that is rarely seen in watchmaking. Made from genuine brown perforated calfskin, the strap is integrated into the case and features a new, highly ergonomic Mido folding clasp with two safety pushers that secure its opening.

Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bars (100 m/330 ft), the Multifort Chronograph Adventure is protected by a sapphire crystal treated with anti-reflective coating on both sides. It is also equipped with a transparent case back, enabling the wearer to admire its finely decorated automatic chronograph movement with blued screws, and its oscillating weight adorned with Geneva stripes and the Mido logo.

Other versions of this model are also available.

Luminox and Navy SEALs Formalize Relationship
Luminox becomes official licensee for the Navy SEALs

Luminox is kicking off 2016 as the official watch licensee of the Navy SEALs. The relationship started over 20 years ago when the SEALs were searching for an analog timepiece to suit their needs and discovered Luminox with its unique self-powered illumination technology for optimum visibility day and night in any condition.

“As a research, development, test, and evaluation officer for the Navy SEALs I was asked to find a dependable watch for night missions. After testing a variety of brands in the most arduous conditions, Luminox was the only one still functioning at the end of the evaluation.” Nick North, Navy SEAL (Retired).

Since the first meeting with Nick North, and the first Navy SEAL series, Luminox has continuously updated its line of watches to meet the demanding requirements of this community of warriors. The Navy SEAL Colormark series is the evolution of that original series of timepieces.

In 2013, Luminox had the opportunity to develop a new series of watches with upgraded features and again collaborated with SEALs, both active duty and retired. This partnership resulted in the A.N.U. (Authorized for Navy Use) series featuring a black PVD-plated stainless steel case, with screw crown and case back, sapphire crystal, multi-jewel Swiss quartz movement and 10 year lithium battery.

“When so much relies on the accuracy of a timepiece, we focused in on the essentials; accuracy, reliability and performance. The Luminox illumination system gave us the sustained superior performance that is expected of a Navy SEAL and what we expect of our gear.” Shaun Marriot, Lt Commander, Navy SEAL (Retired).

“It is an absolute honor to have an ongoing relationship with the SEALs, and to be selected by U.S. Navy SEAL Commanders to design and supply watches for some of the most elite and respected Special Forces in the world. It is particularly exciting that two generations of SEALs arrived at the same conclusion and chose Luminox as their watch of choice. Becoming their official watch licensee formalizes this ongoing relationship,” says Barry Cohen, Co-Founder of Luminox.

Over the years, Luminox became part of the SEALs’ Essential Gear as both the relationship and the watches continued to grow and expand. Today, Luminox can be sure that every Navy SEAL, wearing a Luminox is equipped with a timepiece where unmatched visibility is a given.

SPEAKE-MARIN – Skull Face to Face DIAMOND Tourbillon Edition

SPEAKE-MARIN Cabinet des Mystères Skull Face to Face DIAMOND Tourbillon Red Gold Limited Edition NEW

If skulls are part of the DNA of Speake-Marin for more than 10 years, it is the first time that the English watchmaker combines on the same dial, the skull theme with a tourbillon, mixing art and technicality.

It is no coincidence if Skulls appeared many years ago in the Speake-Marin Collection. From an early age Peter Speake-Marin was fascinated with the subject and developed an affinity with the philosophy Memento mori.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ....      BIG FOTO

Memento mori is a medieval latin theory of reflection of mortality. It reminds us that life is short and that you have to appreciate every moment that we have. We have especially to do our best. The lyrics of this mediaeval music of the Catalan Vermell de Montserrat (1399) illustrate perfectly this philosophy:

Life is short, and shortly it will end;
Death comes quickly and respects no one,
Death destroys everything and takes pity on no one.

To remind that life if precious and every minute counts, nearly ten years ago Peter Speake-Marin decided to place skulls on the dial of the Cabinet des Mystères collection. The collection holds a special place in the Speake-Marin watchmaking world. It tells the story of our founder, Peter Speake-Marin, through exceptional timepieces. From the most creative to the most complex complications, the Cabinet des Mystères recounts the story of a modern watchmaker.

Face to Face’s intricate double gold skull engraving has been etched onto the dial using a chemical etching technique. The two skulls are face to face to illustrate a reflection in time. The bezel is also set with 36 baguette diamonds (2.16 carat) an association with eternity, “diamonds are for ever”.

The Magister Tourbillon at 6 o’clock features a hand-finished 60-second tourbillon. Turning the tourbillon over, the movement featuring hand-finishing can be fully appreciated through the display back. Offset on the main bridge is the noble platinum micro-rotor, its strong and sober aesthetic counterbalanced by the intricate complexity of the tourbillon.

The lower tourbillon cage is supported by a striking paddle-shaped bridge offering clear visual access to the surrounding gears below. The rhodium-finished German silver bridges and main plate are circular-grained with polished screw heads and polished countersinks. Technical details are engraved and gilded on the bridges either side of the platinum rotor.

Ulysse Nardin – FreakWing Tourbilon Limited Edition

Ulysse Nardin FreakWing Tourbilon Black DLC Titanium Limited Edition NEW

As partner to the Artemis Racing team in the America's cup, Ulysse Nardin is flying the team's colors high with the new FreakWing, which is packed with innovations and cutting-edge technology just like the famous high-tech AC45 catamaran of the Swedish challenger.

The jewel of the sea has finally been encapsulated in the form of a watch ! To celebrate its partnership with the Artemis Racing team for the 35th America's Cup, Ulysse Nardin has adorned its new FreakWing with the most emblematic features of this high-tech catamaran:  the upper bridge for the minutes is inspired by the internal structure of the rigid sail, while the texture of the rotating hours disc evokes the mesh net of the multihull. The bezel and case back are forged from carbon fiber, an element that is omnipresent in high-level sailing. And so, flying the colors of the Swedish challenger, the FreakWing is a hymn to excellence, to innovation, to technology and to precision - values which are shared by both brands.

The Artemis Racing AC45 catamaran, the challenger of the Swedish Royal Yacht Club – the 5th oldest sailing club in the world – is designed like no other: its rigid sail in the shape of an aeroplane wing and foils allow it to achieve phenomenal performances; reaching up to 45 knots – more than 80 km/h. Ulysse Nardin's Freak collection follows the same philosophy. For fifteen years, it has produced the most audacious innovations and the most daring architecture. This watch was the first to integrate a silicium escapement in 2001, a diamond version in 2005 and the Dual Ulysse escapement in the same year. Without a dial or hands, it is made in such a manner as to pivot its movement on itself. Linked to the center of this unusual vessel, the lower bridge indicates the time, while the upper bridge–which carries the gear train, the paired balance spring and the escapement in silicium, exclusive to the  Dual Ulysse escapement– displays the minutes.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...                     BIG FOTO

As spectacular as always with its Tourbillon in the center, riding high with the Artemis Racing logo on the back, the new FreakWing offers a highly readable hour and minute display, as well as the date at four o'clock. On the technology side, it features the UlyChoc safety system, a new generation of shock absorbers.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...           BIG FOTO

Entirely conceived, developed and produced in-house, it replaces three traditional micro-elements with just one made from silicium. This is a true world-first, and is the subject of a patent application. This solution avoids any slack or friction, allowing for perfect re-centering of the balance wheel in the event of an impact.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...           BIG FOTO

Sturdier than ever, with a black DLC titanium case and a carbon-style strap with yellow stitching, the FreakWing is also phenomenal to use. In the absence of a crown, it is the upper and lower bezels, integrated into the movement, which perform the various functions: the first, secured by a safety clip between the lugs at 6 o'clock, can be used to set the hours and minutes when rotated clockwise, and to set the date when rotated anti-clockwise; the second, on the case back, is to wind the mainspring barrel – designed for a power reserve of eight days.

The America's Cup, which is the oldest international sporting competition (1851), even before the first modern Olympic Games (1896), will take place in June 2017. Until then, like two master mariners, each having mastered the ropes of their respective disciplines, Artemis Racing and Ulysse Nardin can count on each other giving the very best of themselves.
