one of a kind and tough look.

The Unicum is one of the best expression of the highly successful series of U-42 watches designed by Italo Fontana and displays all the distinctive qualities expected from the brand U-BOAT starting from the case in lightweight titanium with an IP black coating and completely handcrafted and treated by Italian artisans in order to make each watch completely original and one of a kind.

In occasion of Baselworld 2018, Italo Fontana presented the updated version of the Unicum, increasing the bold personality of the model and its Steampunkesque features. In the brass dial, which have been naturally aged, Italo chose to apply a skull in relief making the appearence of the watch even stronger and rebel along with the distressed and highly unique vintage look.

The case, with a diameter measuring 50mm, excluding lugs and the huge crown, makes a very bold visual statement and the bezel, rotating in either direction and lockable through a patented mechanism have been scratched on purpose, treated with an IP black coating and special acids, and meticulously hand finished adhering to the finest artisan traditional techniques.

All these treatments are in order to create a one of a kind masterpiece, a watch completely coming from the past and fully bespoke, crafted by hand with each unit finished in a different artisanal way for discerning consumers looking for a unique and highly individual watch. Completing the aesthetics of the new U-42 Unicum is a handmade and hand stitched calf skin leather strap with a natural distressed appeal and with a “tattoo style” pattern coming from a medioeval manuscript made through a laser treatment.

Underneath the robust exterior U-Boat have equipped the watch with a specially modified Swiss Movement according the brand specifics. Functionally the Unicum features hours, minutes, seconds and is water resistant to a depth of 300 meters.

of the U-BOAT Capsule

Directly inspired by the first undersea exploration modules, Capsule, introduced for the first time at Baselworld 2015 comes in a new updated version.

Fascinated by these depth gauges made in the early ‘30s, Italo designed this watch with their characteristic features in mind, from the rounded shape to the porthole windows with water pressure resistant glass to ensure that the people inside the cabin survived the dive.

These spherical portholes made from strong glass were clamped to the outside surface of the capsule using a system of levers to ensure water resistance.

The Capsule watch uses a patented system to clamp the glass to the grade 5 titanium case, featuring a system of external fixing levers guaranteed to withstand the pressure exerted by both outside and inside agents.

The two main levers, blocked in place by a third one positioned at 3 o’clock and by special safety screws, press the domed glass in hesalite against the waterproof gasket beneath.

This system secures the watch in the event of pressure changes.The entire process of opening and removing the hesalite glass can be performed without dismantling any of the watch’s main components (usually the bezel must be removed), but only the glass.

Limited Edition 288 pieces, the 2017 watch comes with black color dial and features on the dial an additional counter showing the AM/PM 24 hours of the day.

The new 46 Chimera is crafted in titanium and carbon, two of the toughest materials in the world and extremely lightweight.

The distinctive and iconic case of the Chimera, for this model in titanium grade 5, features a bezel in forged carbon fibre placed in the case mould in a way that makes each watches unique and, from an aesthetic point of view, a marbled effect, satiny and soft to the touch. Each watch is unique because the carbon fibers are distributed in a random manner in the mold. When the material is compressed under heating, it evolves in an unpredictable way.

The dial consists of three superimposed discs with the last layer made of a laser cut fine wire mesh in stainless steel which allows the movement to be half-seen. Under the curved sapphire glass on the face a U-77 top Soigné with black screws, rhodium plated, automatic mechanical chronograph personalized to U-BOAT specifications.
