With the GMT, the independent Glashütte manufactory Moritz Grossmann presents its first watch model with two time zones. This function is in great demand among watch connoisseurs who travel a lot. A glance at the GMT provides orientation in different time zones and in an extremely stylish way.

Thanks to the classic, functional design of the watch, the two time zones stand out clearly from each other. The 12 hour scale in the middle of the dial shows the first time. It is framed by the outer 24-hour scale for the second time. This allows you to see at a glance whether it is day or night in the country in the other time zone.

24-hour display with quick adjustment

The second time zone with 24 Arabic numerals is designed as an outer circumferential scale. A separate hand element in compact arrow form shows the respective hour. A separate setting crown at 10 o’clock allows the arrow indicator to be quickly adjusted in hourly increments both forwards and backwards. The 12-hour display in the centre of the dial remains unaffected by this.

The 24-hour display is transmitted to the time zone ring via a complex system of gear wheels and always runs in accordance with the centre time. The 24-hour display also follows the 12-hour hand when the centre time is set using the crown.

Calibre 100.8

The GMT is equipped with the calibre 100.8 in a high-artistic finish and the sapphire crystal back reveals the elaborate mechanics of the calibre. It features the characteristic components of the Moritz Grossmann movements, such as the 2/3 plate with the raised gold chatons, the Grossmann ratchet, the separately removable winding unit with pusher mechanism and the cantilevered balance cock with micrometer screw, as well as the mass-optimised balance.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

On the GMT, the mechanism for the second time is integrated into the movement on the dial side. The 24-hour display is transmitted via the hour wheel of the centre time to another hour wheel and an intermediate wheel to the ring of the second time zone.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The second time zone display can be adjusted via the second crown at 10 o'clock. A ratchet wheel with ratchet spring is used to adjust the time in the pre-defined hourly gearshifts.

Dial and hands

The case is available in either rose or white gold. A dial in brilliant argenté emphasises the clarity of the design in the rose and white gold version. The white gold model features a dial in champagne tone for a warm colour accent.

The 24-hour scale with blue Arabic numerals and matching arrow indicator harmoniously stands out from the 12-hour scale in the centre of the dial. Here, the unique lance-shaped hands provide the characteristic accent. They are handcrafted in the manufactory, finished and annealed in dark brown. For the white gold model with argenté opaline dial, the entire set of hands is polished stainless steel.

With the GMT, the independent Glashütte manufactory is enriching its collection with a long-awaited time zone watch that beautifully reflects the very essence of the much-travelled cosmopolitan, polyglot writer and aesthete Moritz Grossmann. The clear design, the advanced mechanics and the perfection of the craftsmanship represent Schönstes deutsches Handwerk in a unique way and bear witness to the highest level of skill inherent in Grossmann’s timepieces.

Moritz Grossmann will present the new models and other innovations from the manufactory as part of its international roadshow in 2019. Following the launch in Dubai on 30 January 2019, further stops in Tokyo, Hong Kong and London will be on the programme from March to June.

The independent Glashütte watch manufactory Moritz Grossmann presents its strategy for a new sales concept. The company will present product launches and innovations live in front of press representatives and customers in four different cities in 2019.

The press conferences to mark the launch of the new products 2019 will take place in Dubai, Tokyo, Hong Kong and London on the following dates:

SAVE THE DATE – PRESS CONFERENCE DATES
  • Dubai 30 January 2019
  • Tokyo 7 March 2019
  • Hong Kong Mid-May 2019
  • London Mid-June 2019
With this, Grossmann Uhren GmbH officially announces it will not be taking part in Baselworld 2019. Instead, the manufactory is responding to new market developments and investing more heavily in innovative sales channels. The company sees great potential in the new concept in terms of intensifying direct communication with its customers on site and in a targeted manner. Grossmann Uhren plans to expand the road show in the coming years to other cities.

Christine Hutter, founder and CEO of Grossmann Uhren GmbH, emphasises: ‘As a manufacturer of high-quality watches in a niche market, we increasingly see it as enriching to enter into more direct contact with retailers and also end customers. This is best achieved through personal relationships in their locations. This is why we are shifting our sales activities towards our customers and integrating our local partners more into communication. Our aim is to intensify individual, direct exchange on all levels’.

Invitations for the press conference in Dubai will be sent out shortly. The exact dates for the press events in Hong Kong and London will be announced by Grossmann Uhren in due course

On 11 November 2008, Christine Hutter founded Grossmann Uhren using the great name of the co-founder of the Glashütte watch industry and initiator of the German watchmaking school in Glashütte, Moritz Grossmann. Thus the legacy of the highly respected watch pioneer was revived after around 130 years. Today, the Moritz Grossmann brand manufactures mechanical timepieces to the highest standard of craftsmanship under the tagline “Schönstes deutsches Handwerk” – the most beautiful German craftsmanship - in a classic and at the same time modern design.

Inspired by the beauty and mysticism of the Orient, a watch with a magical aura has been created that unites the art of watchmaking with the art of jewellery to the highest level of perfection. The dial takes the observer into a mysterious nocturnal landscape of sand dunes with a moon shining above them. It is assembled elaborately by hand using the finest and precisely cut mother-of-pearl plates. Due to the varying colours of the mother-of-pearl, each image is a small unique specimen. 62 white brilliant-cut diamonds and a radiant, asymmetrical guilloche lend the dreamlike motif a sparkling frame.

Golden Milanaise jewelled bracelet

The TEFNUT 1001 Nights is now available with an innovation — an elaborate Milanaise bracelet: it is made in white or rose gold to match the case and lends the watch its perfect elegance.

Thanks to the ultra-fine workmanship, it gently nestles on the wrist and feels cool and airy on the skin even on hot days. The folding clasp can be variably adjusted and easily released.

Dial and hands

The black Roman numerals and the unmistakable lance-shaped Grossmann hands stand out harmoniously against the delicate line structure of the dial. The white or rose gold case gently widens from the crown to the 9 o’clock side. The bezel is set with 60 white diamonds. Two freely suspended lugs fixed to one side of the case easily pick up on the exciting asymmetry of the design. Like the crown, the lugs are graced with blue cabochons.

Calibre 102.0

The TEFNUT 1001 Nights features the characteristic movement elements of the calibre 102.0: cantilevered balance cock with the Grossmann micrometer screw, raised gold chatons, a separately removable winder module, and the mass-optimised Grossmann balance.

Moritz Grossmann – ATUM Backpage Platinum - Unique piece

Moritz GrossmannATUM Backpage’ Platinum 41mm 10th Anniversary - Unique piece

Moritz Grossmann presents the ATUM Backpage
– a showcase for the art of Grossmann watchmaking

Schönstes deutsches Handwerk

The renowned German watchmaker Moritz Grossmann celebrates its tenth anniversary in November. To mark this special occasion the independent watchmaker from Glashütte is pleased to reveal its eleventh special model, the ATUM Backpage Platinum. This platinum single edition piece offers a showcase for Grossmann’s beautiful watchmaking art.

With the exception of the delicate minute scale on the rim of the watch face the dial is completely exposed enabling spectators to admire all the beautifully intricate details of the movement.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The ATUM Backpage Platinum‘s artistically handcrafted movement has been mirrored and shifted to the dial side by Moritz Grossmann’s master watchmakers. Thanks to an unexpectedly large dial cut-out, the characteristic movement details such as Grossmann’s balance wheel, a hand-engraved balance cock and three band snailings on the ratchet wheel can be fully observed while on the wrist. Wide Glashütte stripes are applied to both sides of the movement and the Moritz Grossmann logo is hand engraved on the dial side. Blue hands and blue screws, tempered in the manufactory, complete the elegant colour scheme of this extraordinary watch.

Calibre 107.0

Calibre 107.0 is essentially a mirror image of the calibre 100.1, but with crucial new design elements.  An additional wheel between the crown wheel and the ratchet wheel reverses the entire drive train with respect to the rotation of the mainspring barrel.  The wheel train runs in the right direction thanks to the mirrored escapement and the mirrored oscillation system – also including the balance spring coiling direction.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The larger dimensions of the 2/3 plate necessitated design changes for the balance cock and the escape-wheel cock. The cantilevered geometry of the escape-wheel cock creates a balanced accent in the overall arrangement of the movement. The High-Artistic finish showcases attractive hand engravings, bevels, and chamfers.

The minute-wheel bridge

To achieve the desired presence of the winding wheels on the dial side, the dial train was reconfigured. The artistically finished train wheels were arranged beneath a lavishly polished minute-wheel bridge. Since in this case, the hand-setting mechanism is located on the opposite side of the movement, the setting wheel extends all the way through the calibre.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The new arrangement created space for the optimised barrel bearing and the ratchet wheel, which was also shifted to the front side.

The winder with pusher and stop seconds

On the new rear side of the movement, the winding and hand-setting mechanism is now openly integrated in the train bridge, so its functionality can be fully observed for the first time. The stop-seconds and stop-balance functions have been redesigned as well.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In the hand-setting mechanism, the brake position is sampled at the clutch lever and, via a push rod, transferred to the brake spring, which then stops the balance.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

After the pusher is activated and the movement starts, the brake spring returns the push rod to its rest position.

On the back of the movement, the winding and hand-setting mechanisms are openly integrated into the train bridge and can be observed in their full functionality. Almost all parts in the movement are mirrored in order to guarantee their function even when mounted in the opposite position.

The Moritz Grossmann brand manufactures timepieces to the highest standard of craftsmanship under the motto ‘Schönstes deutsches Handwerk’ - The most beautiful German craftsmanship. The ATUM Backpage Platinum is offered with the calibre 107.0 in artistic hand finish as a single edition 1 of 1.

Moritz Grossmann – ATUM Pure M Orange Unique Edition

Moritz GrossmannATUM Pure M Orange 10th Anniversary - Unique Edition

ATUM Pure M Orange – a unique colour
combination with a surprise beneath

Schönstes deutsches Handwerk

Moritz Grossmann, the independent from watchmaker Glashütte, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month. To mark the occasion, the company presents its 7th one-off piece, the ATUM Pure M Orange.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Even in the 19th century, Moritz Grossmann experimented with the finish of his pieces, creating a range a styles to suit all tastes. Today, the ATUM Pure M Orange pays homage with nickel silver plates which have been glass bead-blasted to create a matte finish. The highly sensitive surface demands maximum precision and skill from the watchmaker. White sapphires, typical of Moritz Grossmann are pressed directly into the plate secured by flat polished steel screws.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

With a blackened stainless steel case in combination with an orange alligator strap, the ATUM Pure M Orange has a sporty touch with surprises beneath. The dial is crafted from delicate filigree steel, offering an eye-catching view into the movement. The unique lance-shaped hands match the indexes with orange HyCeram, matching the dial’s eight orange indexes with black Arabic numerals to mark the hours. At 6 o'clock, the small second shimmers in silver thanks to the evenly applied cut.

The calibre 201.1 movement

A glance through the display back reveals the calibre 201.1 with the Pure-Classic finish. It was specially designed to be cased in stainless steel. The German silver plates are shot-peened with glass beads for enhanced aesthetic appeal.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Shot peening matts the surface, making it highly sensitive. Great care must be taken in the assembly phase for this reason. The white sapphire bearing jewels, a Grossmann hallmark, are pressed directly into the plate. The movement screws are polished flat and retain their original steel hue. Endowed with the Grossmann balance, the Grossmann winder with pusher, the modified Glashütte stopwork, and the Grossmann micrometer screw, this calibre highlights the manufacture’s typical features as well as Grossmann’s pure watchmaking artistry.

The Moritz Grossmann brand manufactures timepieces to the highest standard of craftsmanship under the motto “Schönstes deutsches Handwerk”. The ATUM Pure M Orange is offered with the calibre 201.1 in a pure classic finish as a single edition 1 of 1.

Moritz Grossman is working on something very special. Details regarding purchase options for the ATUM Pure M Orange will be published in the coming weeks.
