LOUIS MOINET – TIME TO RACE Titanium Chronograph Edition

LOUIS MOINETMechanical Wonders TIME TO RACE Titanium Chronograph Unique Edition 2023

“A collector’s item must be unique by definition.
There could never be two identical TIME TO RACE timepieces.”
Jean-Marie Schaller, CEO & Creative Director

Unique personnalisation

TIME TO RACE is not a limited series, but rather a collection of unique pieces. This means that the collectors will be able to personalise their watches individually by choosing a number – that is, their lucky number made up one or two numerals.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It will be displayed at the front of the watch together with a colour code. In other words, when you acquire a TIME TO RACE, you will be sure you have a watch that was made for you, exclusively.

SILVER WINNER | A tribute to the pioneers

This year, we have added a new and unique model called Silver Winner to the three iconic colours from the world of motorsport, which are Racing Green, Rosso Corsa and Bleu de France.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

These colours have been specifically selected because they represent the most legendary cars. National colours were assigned from the very first car races until the end of the 1960s. This tradition endures to this day in the collective imagination. The Silver Winner creation comes with a silver tint and a red number. It evokes German racing cars.

ORANGE PAPAYA | The captivating inspiration from hypercars

The TIME TO RACE models use vibrant and eye-catching colours. The latest creation, Orange Papaya, features bright orange with a blue number that recalls speed and performance, complementing the famous Lime Green, a tangy green that exudes power and sportiness.

These two new hues give each TIME TO RACE piece a distinctive, contemporary note inspired by the dynamic and edgy aesthetics of hypercars.

The true destiny of the chronograph

Of all the complications, the chronograph is the most useful one in the modern world. In sports, the chronograph is the final judge. It determines which driver has completed the lap fastest.

The TIME TO RACE collection thrusts itself into this realm of gentleman drivers and also embodies the beauty of motorsport, that unique feeling of man and machine fusing.

A powerful creation and a new spectacle

The complex chronograph mechanism is fully visible on the dial side and appears in a new light. One reason is that the domed sapphire crystal, which extends beyond the case, was purposely chosen to reveal more of the timepiece. Gazing at it in profile reveals a spectacle never seen before.

The racing spirit

Exploring aerodynamics for the TIME TO RACE lines has produced a style that expresses the spirit of competition.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The domed sapphire crystal was developed specially to highlight the column wheel mechanism. It’s an ingenious and novel concept that resulted in a new kind of flange, one that is no longer connected with the sapphire crystal. It also allowed us to combine two different readings for the chronograph seconds hand, namely a tachymetric scale and the sixty seconds display.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The production of the bi-material flange is complex and made from a novel material. It owes its radiance to the intense colour present in its lower quarter of the flange.
In fact, it is at night that the TIME TO RACE watches reveal their ultimate secret: a luminescent display of measurement indices made possible by a unique technology. The original colours are applied using pad printing and have a flat, matt appearance. It’s a very complex, artisanal process and is used exclusively for exceptional timepieces.

Finally, the flange rests atop a woven carbon fibre plate that gives the 147 components of the chronograph mechanism their due value. It also offers the necessary contrast for reading the chronograph, which is done by the large, coloured hand and by one of the two fumé subdials.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Hours and minutes are read off a subdial set at 6 o'clock, which acts as the watch’s core conceptual element. It displays the owner’s lucky number painted on a white background with a high-polish finish and surrounded by a metal ring reminiscent of the cylinder bores common in motorsport.

The case weighs a mere eighteen grams. It is machined from Grade 5 titanium, then polished and given a satin finish. It recalls that long quest for minimising weight, because when a watch is worn on the wrist, lower weight means more fusion. And this fusion is also reinforced by a strap that was designed to be the perfect extension of the case.

The lines of the case are fluid and tightly drawn. The one flank features a new crown support. The lugs have been openworked and are subtly arched and satin-finished, highlighting the integration of the bracelet.

A powerful mechanism

The chronograph offers the greatest interaction with the wearer. The TIME TO RACE family increases the viewing pleasure tenfold, as the chronograph has been laid bare for all to see. One smooth push on the single push-button prompts a unique choreography that unfolds before your very eyes. The mechanism’s rockers, clutch, hammers, column wheel, springs, and wheels interreact with each other to ultimately set off the chronograph and measure time.

LOUIS MOINET – MAYA ECLIPSE Tourbillon Gold Edition

LOUIS MOINETMechanical Wonders MAYA ECLIPSE Double Tourbillon Edition - Unique Piece  2022

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The MAYA ECLIPSE is a deeply symbolic timepiece that pays tribute to the charismatic Maya people and the rich history of Mexico.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Created by Les Ateliers Louis Moinet, this unique and extraordinary piece will be presented for the first time at SIAR (Salón Internacional Alta Relojería) in Mexico, from 18th to 20th October 2022.

THE SPIRIT OF CREATION

The MAYA ECLIPSE embodies the beguiling cosmic phenomenon that is the eclipse, using technology to capture a poetic beauty. It plays out the spectacular encounter between the moon and the sun 18 times per hour, with the magical axis of the Kukulcán Pyramid serving as its centre point.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Mayan society and culture drew an important association between astronomy, the vision of the Cosmos, religion and politics. Brilliant mathematicians and architects, the Mayans were also fervent observers of the stars and other celestial phenomena.

They used their observations to create various calendars, some of which were highly complex and extremely accurate. They used these to measure time, enabling them to determine the phases of the moon and the position of the sun during eclipses, solstices and equinoxes.

This unique creation combines striking elements of Mayan culture with the watchmaking expertise of Ateliers Louis Moinet. The concept was developed by the young jewellery artist, Nathanaël Schaller, national winner of the French Prix des Métiers d’Art in 2020.

WHEN THE STARS ALIGN

Pyramidal architecture features in the shape of the watch’s mysterious and complex movement, whose stepped construction projects from the centre.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This movement has two satellite tourbillons that rotate in opposite directions, with their counterweights representing a moon and a sun inspired by Mayan symbols. They cross and overlap 18 times per hour, i.e. 432 times per day, with each meeting producing a striking and poetic eclipse, from where the timepiece gets its legendary name: MAYA ECLIPSE.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

At the top of the movement’s mechanical axis sits a fragment of jade. Its position at the top of the pyramid is symbolic, since jade was considered more precious than gold by the Mayans, who used it to make various artefacts to feature in their rites and ceremonies.

CHICHÉN ITZÁ IN A NEW LIGHT

The back of the dial is made from coloured mother-of-pearl, an exquisite and ethereal material which reminds us that the Kukulcán Pyramid is built over a cenote. Cenotes are natural pits primarily found in North and Central America

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Usually filled with fresh water (though sometimes with sea water), they were considered sacred by the Mayans. The transparent flange features hour-markers with Mayan numerals made up of lines and dots. These graphical elements make for easy time reading.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTOThe pyramid is made from 18k 5N rose gold and is adorned with guilloché geometric patterns that play with light and shade to stunning effect. This recalls the phenomenon that occurs at the Kukulcán Pyramid itself during equinoxes: the sun strikes the north-west corner of the pyramid, creating the illusion that the serpent is descending the steps of the pyramid.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The MAYA ECLIPSE depicts the Kukulcán Pyramid seen from the above, with its nine levels and four staircases. This construction symbolises the cosmic axis that links the infraworld, the world of the living and the world of the gods.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It is located at the site of Chichén Itzá in Mexico, and is dedicated to Kukulcán, the feathered serpent. Kukulcán was the all-powerful god of resurrection and reincarnation worshipped by the Mayans.

 MARS MISSION

“There are 77 government space agencies to date, and knowledge of Mars has become a priority for humanity” Jean-Marie Schaller

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Why is the cosmic world so important to Louis Moinet?

Louis Moinet invented the chronograph in 1816, to meet the needs of his astronomical observations. This hitherto unknown instrument was indeed associated with the unit of measurement of his astronomical transit instrument: the tierce, which corresponds to 1/60th of a second.

Why “Mars Mission”?

Louis Moinet was a trailblazer and wanted to develop a better knowledge of the universe through his astronomical observations.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The same can be said of the programmes aimed at Mars, which are probably the next step in the conquest of space.

Mars Mission, a character-filled creation

This modern timepiece aims to combine the visionary talent of the inventor of the chronograph and high frequency with contemporary architectural work.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The essential elements are outlined below.

The dial – a witness to the conquest of space

The dial pays tribute to the first detailed photos of Mars taken in 1965 by the first Mars flyby probe: Mariner 4.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The engraving results from hand-crafted hammering creating pleasing contrasts on the surface of the planet. The finish features two light and dark tones resulting from a light black patina achieved after the dial was copper-plated.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It has an opening between 8 o'clock and 12 o'clock, revealing each beat of its exclusive calibre including the escapement operating at a rate of 28,800 vibrations/hour, as well as the off-centre seconds hand. Everything is arranged to ensure that the eye loses nothing of intricate workings of this MARS MISSION watch.

Mars – an authentic Martian meteorite fragment

Louis Moinet offers exclusive real fragments of Mars. This is an extremely rare and precious material, as only 277 Martian meteorites are known to exist worldwide.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Martian meteorite

After being torn from the Martian crust probably millions of years ago, this meteorite drifted through interplanetary space, travelling millions of kilometres, before finally being captured by the Earth's gravity and landing in the Jiddat al Harasis Desert in Oman

It has now been transformed into an objet d’art, sculpted by the expert hands of Daniel Haas and suspended above the void, protected by an anodised aluminium capsule with a shiny black base to make the red planet stand out.

Martian meteorite becomes an artwork

The hour-markers – light and radiance

Representing an essential stylistic element in this creation, the hour-markers involve an extremely sophisticated manufacture process. Each features three variously shaped facets designed to make the light dance over them. The flank features a diamond and satin-finished part to endow the dial with a deep radiance. The colour contrast is accentuated by its black PVD base and the lacquer in its centre.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The real accomplishment was to keep them suspended above the void, with the clear intention of creating a strong perspective. This virtuoso craftsmanship enables them to be linked to a central ring and to the inner bezel ring.

The self-winding calibre – function & style

The finishing of the movement is based on the noble traditions of fine watchmaking: Côtes de Genève, diamond-polished chamfers, circular satin-finished wheels, circular graining.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The sapphire caseback reveals the movements of the rotor mounted on ball bearings.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Clous de Paris motif dear to Louis Moinet in the 19th century has been reinterpreted in a concentric version, giving an impression of movement.

The Neo case – a watch industry trailblazer

The Mars Mission case has been christened Neo, as its novel technical solutions have created a silhouette that is unprecedented in watchmaking.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Everything is built around two vertical bridges that cross the piece to accommodate the strap at each end of their openworked lugs. These bridges enclose the movement container, which is dominated by the six-screw bezel, one of Louis Moinet's trademarks.

Its alligator leather strap is secured by a folding clasp adorned with the curved Fleur de Lys, the symbol of Louis Moinet.

LOUIS MOINET – TIME TO RACE Unique Edition

LOUIS MOINETMechanical Wonders TIME TO RACE Titanium Chronograph Unique Edition 2022

"Auto racing began 5 minutes after the second car was built
Henry Ford

Time to Racethe predestined world of the chronograph

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Of all complications, the chronograph remains the most useful in the modern world. In the sporting field, the chronograph is the absolute judge. It determines which driver has completed the fastest lap. TIME TO RACE propels itself into the world of gentlemen drivers and also embodies the beauty of sport, the unique spirit expressing the merging of man and machine.

Each collector can choose his own one-of-a-kind creation

TIME TO RACE is not a limited series, but a set of one-of-a-kind creation. Collectors will indeed be able to personalise their model by selecting a one or two-digit “lucky number” that will appear on the front of the timepiece, along with a dedicated colour code: Rosso Corsa, Racing Green or French blue.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

No two watches will thus be alike. These colours have been specifically selected because they embody the most legendary cars in motorsports. To ensure clearer vehicle identification, national colours were assigned in motor racing until the end of the 1960s. This tradition remains present today in the collective imagination, as the tradition has endured. Thus, a red car brings to mind Italy, a green one England and a blue one France...

A strong creationa new show

The dial side reveals the sumptuous chronograph mechanism, fully visible and highlighted in a whole new way, with the strongly domed crystal reveals it even more fully. A side view also reveals a previously unknown sight...

The racing spirit

The aerodynamic quest embodied in the design of TIME TO RACE has defined a style reflecting a resolutely competitive spirit.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Its glareproofed sapphire crystal features an imposing curvature serving to enable uncompromising appreciation of the column-wheel mechanism. This ingenious and original design has given rise to a new type of inner bezel ring, dissociated from the crystal. It also makes it possible to combine two different readings of short-time measurements: a tachymeter scale and a 60-second display.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The creation of this bi-material inner bezel ring is complex and owes its brilliance to the intensity of the colour present in its first quarter, made from an avant-garde material. Its bold character is further emphasised by a luminous transfer of the measurement indications designed to enable readability in the dark.

 Day

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

 Night

Finally, the inner bezel ring frames a woven carbon fibre mainplate highlighting the 147 components of the chronograph mechanism. It also provides the reading contrast that is so useful during chronograph operations, indicated by the large coloured hand and one of the two smoke-coloured counters.
The hours and minutes are read off a subdial at 6 o'clock. This central design element bears the wearer's "Lucky Number", painted in black on a white background with a glossy polished finish, and surrounded by a metal ring reminiscent of the bores used in racing cars.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Its case weighs only 18 grams, cut from grade 5 titanium, then polished and satin-brushed. It evokes the quest for minimum weight that means more comfort and a more seamless fit on the wrist, further enhanced by a strap specially designed to be a perfect extension of the case.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The lines of the case are fluid and taut. The sides feature a new crown base. The lugs are openworked and feature a subtle satin-brushed camber that highlights the integration of the bracelet. They are tipped with the emblematic Louis Moinet signature in the shape of four black zircons with chatons held by screws.

A powerful mechanism

The chronograph offers the most interaction with its wearer. TIME TO RACE dramatically increases this pleasure, as it is 100% visual. All it takes is one smooth press on the single pusher to make a unique choreography unfolds before your eyes. The various elements – levers, clutch, hammers, column wheel, springs and wheels – are set into motion and interact with the ultimate goal of activating the chronograph and measuring time.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The modern and spectacular design of TIME TO RACE requires the production of 147 components for the upper part dedicated to the chronograph and 164 components for the lower part corresponding to the self-winding movement.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Entirely respectful of Louis Moinet's tradition, the new style direction is defined by its meticulous lines. A chronograph with a decidedly contemporary character, its design is inspired by the world's first chronograph produced by Louis Moinet in 1816, inventor of the chronograph and high frequency (Guinness World Records™).
