Hermes – ARCEAU Into the Canadian Wild Edition

HermèsARCEAU Into the Canadian Wild Gold 38 mm Edition

A miniature painting on aventurine adorns the Arceau watch, like an anthem to the luxuriant Nature abounding in Canada.

The round case with its asymmetrical stirrup-shaped lugs is the hallmark of the timeless allure exuded by the Arceau watch, designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978. This understated yet singular curvature lends itself to the creativity and demanding expertise of Hermès. Available in two limited series of 24 each, the Arceau Into the Canadian Wild watch in white gold and diamonds captures the spirit of wild Nature on its dial.

The animal themes interpreted here – a polar bear and a snowy owl – both stem from the Into the Canadian Wild silk scarf designed by British artist Alice Shirley in 2017, on the occasion of Canada’s 150th anniversary. The original drawing depicts the abundance of flora and fauna, natural treasures of Canada’s vast territories bathed in oceans, lakes and rivers. From this hymn to nature, Hermès Horloger has drawn two interpretations: a snowy owl – emblematic of Quebec – f lying amid the Northern Lights (aurora borealis) graces the first model; while the other features a polar bear with its cub, standing on top of waves populated by fascinating creatures.

The artisan devotes more than a week per dial to accomplishing this miniature work, tracing the contours of the motif on the glittering aventurine base, before placing it in the kiln to fire it in place.

The different volumes of the landscapes and animals are then formed by means of successive layers of paint alternating with successive firings. The major requirement of such a work lies in the miniaturisation of a drawing with multiple volumes, tones and subtle details.

Combining watchmaking and craftsmanship, the Arceau Into the Canadian Wild watch is powered by a mechanical self-winding Hermès movement. It displays hours and minutes on the model adorned with a polar bear, along with a moon phase on the model featuring the snowy owl.

An elegant white gold case set with 82 diamonds frames the hand-crafted dial and is complemented by a smooth sapphire blue alligator strap, also made by the Hermès Horloger artisans.

Hermes – ARCEAU Petite Lune Jete de Diamants et Saphirs

HermèsARCEAU Petite Lune Jeté de Diamants et Saphirs 2020

Created in 1978 by Henri d’Origny, the Arceau watch mingles understatement with distinctiveness. Its round case with asymmetrical stirrup-shaped lugs and sloping Arabic numerals evoking a galloping horse endow it with timeless elegance.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Arceau Petite Lune is lit up by 87 sapphires and 68 diamonds set in «Jeté» from the 38 mm steel case to the natural white mother-of-pearl dial. As if blown in by a gentle breeze, the azure blue stones surround a mischievous Moon sparkling against a deep blue sky dotted with stars. The mischievous night star, designed by Franco-German artist Édouard Baribeaud for the Hermès silk scarf titled Acte III, Scène I, la Clairière..., is freely inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Swept over by slender hands, the lunar glow of the mother-of-pearl is enlivened by random setting and stretches to the pointer-type date and sloping numerals at 6 o’clock. The whole fascinating performance is choreographed by the Manufacture Hermès H1837 self-winding movement complete with a Petite Lune module and driving the hours, minutes, date as well as the moon-phase appearing between 10 and 11 o’clock.

Hermes – ARCEAU Pocket Aaaaargh!

HermèsARCEAU Pocket Aaaaargh! Gold 48 Flying Tourbillon - Unique Piece

Leather craftsmanship meets Haute Horlogerie to create a unique pocket watch, featuring the T-Rex from the Aaaaargh! silk scarf designed by Alice Shirley

The Arceau watch, created by Henri d’Origny in 1978, lends its classic yet distinctive round shape – with its asymmetrical stirrup-inspired lugs – to infinite expressions of Hermès creativity, style and expertise. Its timeless white gold silhouette stages an alliance between leather craftsmanship and Haute Horloger ie in a one-of-a-kind pocket watch.

Beating to the rhythm of the Manufacture H1924 minute-repeater and tourbillon movement, the Arceau Pocket Aaaaargh! frames a refined white enamel dial, protected by a cover adorned with a tyrannosaurus composed of marquetry and leather mosaic.

After the gruff bear of the Slim of Hermes Grrrrr! and the wolf howling in the moonlight of the Arceau Awooooo, the Arceau Pocket Aaaaaargh! watch is joining the bestiary imagined by English artist Alice Shirley.

On this model, the «king of the tyrant lizards» with half-open jaws and an attentive eye comes to life under the expert guidance of Hermès watchmakers, after a month of meticulous work using exclusive techniques developed in its leather workshops.

The design of the tyrannosaurus, which appears to be peeking through a porthole, stands out against the cover and involves a combination of several demanding skills. The head and scales are made in leather mosaic: thousands of finely hand-cut multicoloured leather fragments are applied one by one to faithfully reproduce the original pattern.

The domed eye of the dinosaur, visible on both sides of the cover, is made of cabochoncut Grand Feu enamel. Finally, the jaw and tongue are crafted in leather marquetry: fine tesserae are cut from various coloured leathers, previously thinned to just 0.5 mm, before being juxtaposed on the enamel base.

Setting the final touch to this miniaturised leather artwork, a matt green alligator leather cord-strap is secured to the rectangular stirrup and accentuates the overall design.

ARCEAU Lift tourbillon répétition minutes

A horse-shaped cut-out in the lacquered dial reveals the Hermès tourbillon and minute-repeater movement. Framed by the equestrian profile cut-out hugging the curves of the case, the complexity of the double-gong minute-repeater mechanism is captivating.

This traditional horological complication is combined here with another horological exception – the flying tourbillon – coiled inside the horse’s neck and visible through a round aperture at 6 o’clock.

Forming a double H, the architecture of the tourbillon is inspired by mot emblematic of the Hermès boutique on the Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris. This design crowning the tourbillon carriage and barrel bridge picks up the pattern of the artistic wrought ironwork adorning the entrance, railings, staircase and lift at the Parisian establishment.

The pleasing overall effect is swept over by slim openworked hands and punctuated by the Arceau line’s characteristic sloping numerals that evoke a galloping horse.Visible through the dial cut-outs and the sapphire crystal case-back, the new mechanical hand-wound movement H1924 rom Manufacture Hermès emits the clear chime of its minute repeater from a white or rose gold case measuring 43 mm in diameter.

Hermes – ARCEAU L'Heure De La Lune Edition

HermèsARCEAU L'Heure De La Lune Meteorite Dials Gold and Platinum 43 Limited Edition - 2020

New Dials 2020

Travelling in another dimension, cosmic and dreamlike. Setting foot on the moon and losing one’s sense of time and space. The Arceau L’heure de la lune watch offers a unique vision of Earth’s satellite with the simultaneous display of moon phases in both northern and southern hemispheres. Two mobile counters gravitate on a lunar, Martian or Black Sahara meteorite dial, revealing mother-of-pearl moons in step with an exclusive module, coupled with a Manufacture Hermès movement.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

An offbeat expression of a classic horological complication, the Arceau L’heure de la lune watch offers an original interpretation of Hermès watchmaking expertise. Framed by a white gold or platinum case, the mechanics adopt a light, barely-there role. Meteorite inlaid with mother-of-pearl form a cosmos in which satellite dials float above hemispherical moons. These mischievous displays have swapped cardinal points, with the south above and the north below. A topsy-turvy direction inviting observers to lose their bearings, with their head in the stars…

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The horse, representing the origins of Hermès, gallops elegantly into the world of dreams. At 12 o’clock, the moon is adorned by a Pegasus designed by the “dreamer-designer” Dimitri Rybaltchenko. Entitled Pleine Lune (Full Moon), this portrayal of the winged horse hints at a passage between two worlds, where magic and reality merge. On the other side, at 6 o’clock, the view of the moon from the northern hemisphere provides a realistic depiction of its surface.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The mobile counters displaying the time and date turn weightlessly to reveal the moon discs, while maintaining their horizontal orientation. This contemporary dance is choreographed by a module exclusively developed for Hermès and for which a patent has been filed.

With a total thickness of just 4.2 mm, its 117 polished and bead-blasted components are incorporated within the Manufacture Hermès H1837 movement: a technical challenge designed to preserve the slenderness of the overall mobile chassis, which sweeps around the dial in 59 days.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The mother-of-pearl moons set into the stone display the lunar cycles in the northern and southern hemispheres. This mysterious game of hide-and-seek reveals nothing of its technical complexity, so as to give pride of place to dreams.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Within this space-time, metal, stars and rock seamlessly merge the watch exterior with the movement to form an unprecedented technical and aesthetic display of simple and graphic readability. The double moon here eclipses a traditional aperture-type display, instead covering the entire surface of the dial.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The result is a free-spirited and impertinent vision of mechanical watchmaking according to Hermès. The Arceau case with its asymmetrical lugs, designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978, becomes a lunar crater made of meteorite stone, while the lacquered dials, gravitating like satellites, display Arabic numerals with a distinctive sloping font. This Haute Horlogerie timepiece is fitted with a matt alligator strap in black, Havana or Veronese green, depending on the versions.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Blue Pearl and Lapis Lazuli versions are additions to the main collection, while the meteorite dials are all limited editions. The Lunar and Black Sahara versions are limited to 36 pieces each, while the Martian version is limited to just two (yes, two!) pieces with price only available on request.

Hermes – Slim d’Hermès GMT Blue Gold

HermèsSlim d’Hermès GMT Blue Rose Gold - 2020

Strolling in step with Hermès time. Making light work of time zones.

From Paris to New York and from Buenos Aires to Mumbai, the slender elegance of the rose gold case gracing the new Slim d’Hermès GMT criss-crosses the globe. The mysterious allure of its blue dial bearing a deliciously light font is revealed through a smoked glass, its indications moving to the tune of the ultra-thin Manufacture Hermès H1950 movement and its exclusive – likewise ultra-thin – GMT module. Losing one’s bearings, living the moment anytime, anywhere.

The Slim d’Hermès line embodies essentials: simplicity imbued with rigorous discipline and aesthetic balance, the unmistakable signature of the collection born in 2015. At once classic and modern, it devotes considerable attention to details. The slender curves of the case middle, the right-angled curves, the original numeral font designed by Philippe Apeloig.

Made from rose gold, the Slim d’Hermès GMT watch is an ideal companion for today’s globetrotter. Its elegant and ultra-thin 9.48 mm thick case made from rose gold reveals its pure display beneath an enigmatic smoked crystal veil. The broad blue dial with its distinctive font – slim numerals with spaces between them – is adorned with subtle finishing that accentuates its intensity. A sunburst chapter ring, snailed centre and date counter, along with a grained silver-toned GMT counter studded with numerals punctuate this perfectly legible Manufacture dial swept over by slender sandblasted gilded baton-type hands.

At the heart of this journey, the new Slim d’Hermès GMT is equipped with the ultrathin Manufacture Hermès H1950 movement measuring just 2.6 mm thick, combined with the 1.4 mm of the ultra-thin GMT module exclusively developed by Agenhor for Hermès. In addition to the hours, minutes and date function, this mechanical self-winding composition equipped with a microrotor drives a dual-time reading complete with two day/ night indicators for home time and travel time.
