BREITLING – AVI B04 Chronograph GMT 46 Mosquito Night Fighter and Ref. 765 AVI 1964 RE-EDITION

BREITLING Super AVI B04 Chronograph 46 Mosquito Night Fighter and Ref. 765 AVI 1964 RE-EDITION 2023

From brave first takeoffs to the birth of commercial air travel, Breitling’s history is inseparable from that of flight. In the 1930s, Breitling’s Huit Aviation department made its name inventing precision cockpit clocks. Two decades later, it introduced yet another novel flight instrument, this time in wearable form: the Ref. 765 AVI. That pioneering pilot’s watch provided the technical backdrop for today’s Super AVI, a collection inspired by the rugged spirit of famed early aircraft.

BREITLING MARKS 70 YEARS OF THE “CO-PILOT” WITH THREE NEW RELEASES BASED ON THE ORIGINAL REF. 765 AVI

Today’s unveiling of the 42 mm Classic AVI puts a universal spin on the rugged aviator’s chronograph inspired by the original 1953 Ref. 765 AVI Co-Pilot and four legendary planes. Meanwhile, the 46 mm Super AVI assortment gets a bold new addition with the introduction of the black ceramic Mosquito Night Fighter.

Breitling also surprised collectors with an extremely limited re-edition of a 1964 execution of the AVI Co-Pilot, reviving a classic sporting watch.

“People love the sturdy, understated look of the Super AVI, but not everyone has the wrist to pull off the extra-large size that gives it its authentic tool-watch feel,” says Breitling CEO Georges Kern. “The Classic AVI trades some functions to achieve the pared-down format our customers have been asking for. The Classic and Super models will now live side by side, providing more choice.”

MIGHTY AND MONOCHROME:
THE SUPER AVI MOSQUITO NIGHT FIGHTER

In an era when aluminum and steel shortages were common, the engineers behind the de Havilland Mosquito made use of a still plentiful material: wood. The “Wooden Wonder” caused shockwaves when it outperformed its metal contemporaries to become one of the fastest planes built between 1940 and 1950.

There were many executions of the Mosquito, including a light bomber, a transport, and a photographic reconnaissance plane. But the Super AVI Mosquito Night Fighter gets its inspo from the Night Fighter 2, an all-black two-seater aircraft meant to slip stealthily through the night sky. This watch pays tribute to the plane’s dark livery with a black ceramic case, black military leather strap, and black dial with anthracite subdials. The overall monochrome appearance contrasts strikingly with the titanium pushers, crown, and buckle.

As with all Super AVI, the distinctive design includes large, highly legible Arabic numerals and a sturdy case measuring 46 mm. Its knurled bezel and fluted crown provide optimal grip, even while wearing gloves. Pilots and other travelers will appreciate its ability to track a second time zone using the 24-hour scale on the inner bezel and the grey-tipped GMT hand.

The engine of the Super AVI is the COSC-certified Breitling Manufacture Caliber B04 movement, which provides approximately 70 hours of power.

The movement is visible through the open titanium caseback, etched with the Night Fighter’s outline.

A LIVING LEGEND: THE REF. 765 AVI 1964 RE-EDITION

First released in 1953, the original Ref. 765 AVI, dubbed the Co-Pilot, was a workhorse timepiece designed to serve pilots in the often unforgiving conditions of a single-seat cockpit. Its size, legibility, and ease of use made it a trusted flight instrument.

By the 1960s, the AVI’s simplified style and oversized proportions made it a watch to wear well beyond aviation circles. One particular 765 AVI from 1964, with a black bezel and reverse-panda dial, was a favorite of celebrities and sports stars, including the French skier Jean-Claude Killy, who famously wore it when he won gold in all three alpine skiing events at the 1968 Winter Games. Today, that watch is the subject of an extremely limited re-edition.

Each of the 164 pieces faithfully reproduces this execution’s design. It includes a true-to-the-time hesalite crystal, as well as the baton indexes and lumed pencil hands used on the original. The re-edition also features modern improvements, like the durable amorphous diamond-like carbon (ADLC) coating that gives the bezel its black finish.

To preserve the vintage character, the watch is powered by the Caliber B09, a current Breitling manufacture movement that is, appropriately, manual wind. The re-edition’s limitation references the watch’s original 1964 release with the caseback engraving “One of 164.

As Georges Kern says: “Everything about this re-edition is so Breitling because you can see our aviation tool-watch roots coming through, yet it’s precisely that simplicity that gives it its universal appeal. That’s also why the AVI, in all its forms, has stood the test of time to become one of our most emblematic collections.”

IN TRIBUTE TO THE ORIGINAL JUMBO JET, BREITLING INTRODUCES THE NAVITIMER B01 CHRONOGRAPH 43 BOEING 747

As the last of the mighty 747 airliners rolls off the Boeing production line, Breitling is launching a limited-edition Navitimer celebrating the legendary jet that revolutionized air travel.

It was known as the “Queen of the Skies.” From the moment it first taxied onto the runway in 1969, the Boeing 747 was destined to change the face of air travel. The original jumbo jet, it had two aisles and two decks, could carry double the passengers of the next-largest jetliner and fly more than 5000 nautical miles.

The Boeing 747 went on to revolutionize commercial aviation, putting long-haul flights within reach of a new generation of air travellers and connecting the world like never before.

Now, as Boeing gets set to deliver the last 747, Breitling is commemorating the game-changing aircraft with a special-edition Navitimer, limited to 747 pieces.

“What better way to remember a revolutionary jumbo jet than with a revolutionary pilot’s chronograph,” says Breitling CEO Georges Kern. “The Boeing 747 brought style to the skies, just as the Navitimer brought the spirit of aviation to style-savvy watch enthusiasts.”

The Navitimer, developed by Breitling in 1952, was originally conceived for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). It would go on to become the de facto pilot’s watch throughout the golden age of civil aviation, with its defining circular slide rule that could perform all in-flight calculations.

ODE TO AN AIRCRAFT LEGEND

The new Navitimer Boeing 747 features the AOPA logo at 12 o’clock, representing its heritage as a pilot’s chronograph. The colors on the dial echo the palette found on the original Boeing 747, captured in its cream dial with black subdials and red-and-white slide rule with blue accents.

The “Boeing 747” name is subtly integrated into the slide rule’s inner scale. The watch also features an integrated date window at 6 o’clock. It is available on a black alligator leather strap or seven-row metal bracelet.

The open caseback reveals the exceptional Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01. This movement offers approximately 70 hours of power reserve and is backed by a five-year warranty.

The caseback contains the special engravings “One of 747” and the phrase “The Original Jumbo Jet” – a poignant tribute to an aircraft that, over more than a half century of service, opened the skies and changed the way we travel.

BREITLING – PREMIER B21 Chronograph Tourbillon 42 BREITLING

EXQUISITELY BREITLING: INTRODUCING THE PREMIER TOURBILLON

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Breitling unveils a trio of ultra-premium chronographs, featuring solid precious metals and an exceptional tourbillon. Each of the three watch variations is inspired by one of the Breitling founders.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Conceived while the world was still in the grip of the Second World War, the Premier collection was Willy Breitling’s antidote to austerity. It was a time when wristwatches were professional tools used by pilots, navigators and engineers. And no one understood that better than Willy, whose business was renowned for its high-precision chronographs.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

But as a man of great personal style, Willy also sought to elevate the wristwatch to a thing of elegance that, like the glamorous black-and-white films of the day, conveyed optimism in spite of the turbulent times. His Premier line, launched in 1943, maintained all the function of his superb chronographs but enriched them with form.

Now the luxury Swiss watchmaker demonstrates that spirit once again with the launch of the Premier B21 Chronograph Tourbillon 42. As challenging to execute as it is beautiful, a tourbillon complication is the centerpiece of a new trio of exceptional wristwatches.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Premier B21 Chronograph Tourbillon 42 is the perfect expression of Breitling’s design and expertise,” says CEO Georges Kern. “In the tourbillon, you see the mechanism living at every second. It is the beating heart of the watch.

PURPOSE WITH STYLE

A tourbillon houses the balance wheel, balance spring and escapement in a rotating cage, setting the entire assembly in perpetual motion. This action corrects for – and effectively cancels – the pull of gravity, which affects a watch’s accuracy differently in different positions.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Breitling worked hand-in-hand with the specialty movement maker Manufacture La Joux-Perret to develop the B21 movement that takes the uncommon step of combining a tourbillon with a chronograph to make this trio of watches so distinctly Breitling.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Precious metals and a domed open caseback characterize the Premier B21 Chronograph Tourbillon 42. It comes in three variations, each named for one of the Breitling founding fathers. The Léon Breitling features a solid 18 k red gold case with a silver dial and brown, semi-shiny alligator strap. The Gaston Breitling pairs a solid 18 k white gold case with an anthracite dial and black alligator strap.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Willy Breitling, meanwhile, is a vision in solid platinum with an admiral-blue dial and black alligator strap. Each watch features the stylized square pushers and Arabic numerals that are hallmarks of the Premier line.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Their symmetrical dial design, harmonious interplay of numerals and tone-on-tone colorways perfectly balance the undisputed star of the show – the tourbillon – that takes center stage at 12 o’clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The open sapphire crystal caseback is domed to allow for full appreciation of the B21 movement, where the oscillating weight and reverse side of the tourbillon appear in contrasting 18 k gold.

RETURN OF THE FOUNDERS SQUAD

The release of the Premier B21 Chronograph Tourbillon 42 marks the return of the Founders Squad, made up of Léon, Gaston and Willy Breitling, who come to life in the Premier Tourbillon’s new campaign.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The three generations left their legacy on the brand and their imprint can still be felt in every aspect of these watches. Léon is the craftsman, whose work set a new standard for precision. Gaston is the innovator, whose design became what we know as the modern chronograph. And Willy is the man of impeccable taste, who ushered the wristwatch from purpose to style.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Premier B21 Chronograph Tourbillon 42 is for people who love the mechanics – and magic – of watchmaking. Combining the height of Breitling’s savoir-faire, innovation and style, this timepiece trio dedicated to our founders is one that would have made them proud.
