A. Lange & Sohne – SAXONIA Triple Split Platinum 2026

A. Lange & SohneSAXONIA Triple Split Platinum Flyback Chronograph Edition - 2026

A new colour combination for the ultimate chronograph

The TRIPLE SPLIT sets the benchmark in the field of modern chronograph construction. Designed with the objective of measuring intermediate and comparative times with an aggregate duration of up to twelve hours, the split-seconds chronograph - also endowed with a flyback function - has been in a league of its own since its launch in 2018.

Since its launch in 2018, the TRIPLE SPLIT has defended its unique position in the field of mechanical chronographs: it is the only split-seconds chronograph in the world that can measure intermediate, comparative and overall times for as long as twelve hours.

The range is now enriched with a third edition, also limited to 100 pieces, featuring a platinum case and a rhodié-coloured dial, graced with contrasting grey auxiliary dials.

Two additional dimensions in short-time measurement

Thanks to the extension of the rattrapante function to minute and hour counters, the chronograph can measure times from one minute up to twelve hours, thus considerably enlarging the range of applications.

For instance, during a marathon, the TRIPLE SPLIT can record the intermediate times of any number of runners (for example, after 10, 20 or 30 km) and determine the winner’s time as well as a second overall time. It also covers other interesting possibilities during a journey with a classic automobile. Multiple intermediate times can be measured, for instance at specific locations such as the head of a pass or a leg of the journey. Moreover, with the option of additive time measurement, the entire driving time of the trip can be established while taking into account possible breaks or standing times.

Additionally, the TRIPLE SPLIT boasts a flyback function. It allows stopping an ongoing time measurement with only a single actuation of the pusher at 4 o’clock, resetting all currently active chronograph and rattrapante hands to zero, and instantly restarting a new measurement by releasing the pusher.

Functioning of the TRIPLE SPLIT

A split-seconds chronograph has a mechanical storage, which allows the recording of intermediate times without interrupting an ongoing measurement. Whereas a classic split-seconds chronograph can perform intermediate and comparative time measurements of up to 60 seconds, the TRIPLE SPLIT is equipped with two additional rattrapante hand pairs for measuring minutes and hours.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In the passive mode, the three blued rattrapante hands are superposed with the respective rhodiumed chronograph hands. As soon as the measurement is started by actuating the pusher at 2 o’clock, they all begin to run simultaneously and synchronously until the rattrapante pusher at 10 o’clock is pressed to freeze an intermediate time.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Then, the three blued rattrapante hands stop to display the intermediate time while the chronograph hands continue to run and measure the time. A second actuation of the rattrapante pusher causes the rattrapante hands to catch up with the chronograph hands and continue to run synchronously with them.

Lucidly structured dial design

The dial configuration, with its well-balanced hierarchy of displays, reflects the technical complexity of the TRIPLE SPLIT with exactitude. The largest display surface on the main dial is allocated to the chronograph and rattrapante seconds hands. The auxiliary dial at 4 o’clock is assigned to the precisely jumping minute counters that instantaneously advance by one increment – precisely after one minute has elapsed.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The display for the hour counters at 12 o’clock is slightly smaller while the Lange-typical UP/DOWN power-reserve indicator is located opposite at 6 o’clock: it occupies the smallest display segment and provides information on how much of the 55-hour power reserve still remains. The subsidiary seconds dial is arranged on the auxiliary dial at 8 o’clock. Within the scope of stop time measurement, the peripheral tachymeter scale makes it possible to determine average speeds over a distance of 1,000 metres.

Subtly nuanced colour composition

In the limited 950 platinum edition, the characteristic design makes its debut against a rhodié-coloured background. The grey auxiliary dials, the luminous hour and minute hands, the blued rattrapante hands alongside the red accents in the section housing the hour and minute counters as well as the UP/DOWN display create a harmonious interplay of contrast, functionality and technical aesthetics.

The case boasts a diameter of 43.2 millimetres and a height of 15.6 millimetres. The technical-elegant colour composition of a cool-toned platinum case, rhodié-coloured dial and darker, grey auxiliary dials is worn on a dark-brown alligator leather strap with a platinum deployant buckle.

A dedicated manufacture calibre with trailblazing constructions

The L132.1 manufacture calibre is emblematic of A. Lange & Söhne’s ambition to transcend horological boundaries and emphasises the manufacture’s particular competence in chronograph construction. It accommodates the one-of-a-kind triple rattrapante mechanism – a technical masterstroke in precision watchmaking.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It assures that the three chronograph hands and three rattrapante hands accurately perform their respective functions – among which starting, stopping, catching up and resetting to zero. For the watchmakers, the complex choreography of wheels, levers, springs, clutches and jumpers requires the ultimate in expertise.

All components of the predominantly lengthy, and in part branched switching chains must be perfectly harmonised with each other: a horological marathon that hinges on perseverance, meticulousness and precision.

The stopped rattrapante hands as well as initiating the advancement of the minute counters invariably generates friction losses in the movement. The disengagement mechanism developed by A. Lange & Söhne ensures that sufficient power can be continuously delivered to the oscillation system nevertheless.

Patented in 2005, the intelligent device disengages the friction-intensive processes on the seconds arbor as well as on the minute counter arbor and thus assures precise rate stability. Because it rotates slower and hence produces substantially less friction, the hour counter arbor does not need such a mechanism.

Exceptional complexity and mechanical beauty

The sapphire-crystal caseback allows intriguing insights into the exceptional complexity and architectural depth of the chronograph movement, elaborately finished in typical Lange style. A total of 567 minute components make up a perfectly harmonised entity.

The upper sides of the levers, springs and rockers are decorated with straight graining and the circumferential chamfers are bevelled. Chamfer polishing of the acute internal angles is especially demanding. Five gold screwed chatons on the bridges made of untreated German silver that are embellished with Glashütte ribbing and the hand-engraved balance cock round off the precision mechanical masterpiece: they exemplify that its finish is undeniably commensurate with its technical sophistication.

“Until today, the TRIPLE SPLIT plays in a league of its own,” explains Anthony de Haas, Director Product Development. “Behind the triple rattrapante mechanism for seconds, minutes and hours lies the L132.1 calibre that was entirely developed in our manufacture, one of our most elaborate and equally most beautiful movements. The depth of the architecture calls for the utmost expertise, patience and dexterity, creating an extraordinary bond between the watchmaker and the movement. At the same time, incorporating the mechanism into a movement height that safeguards the wearing comfort presented a challenge. Hence, this movement underscores our ambition to also consistently follow our own path in the field of chronographs.”

A new look for a unique chronograph

When A. Lange & Söhne presented the TRIPLE SPLIT in 2018, it was lauded as a global premiere by the international trade press.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The only split-seconds chronograph in the world to date that can measure additive and comparative times for as long as twelve hours is in a league of its own. Now, it is followed by a model with a pink-gold case and a blue dial.

Introduced in 2018, the TRIPLE SPLIT is the world's only mechanical split-seconds chronograph that allows the measurement of intermediate and reference times for durations of up to twelve hours.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The former edition in white gold with a grey dial is now followed by a second version – also in a limited edition of 100 timepieces – in pink gold with a blue dial and rhodié-coloured subsidiary dials. Despite the wealth of displayed information, an ingenious material and colour concept make it easy to clearly assign each of the ten hands to a specific function.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

There is no other watch in the world that compares with the TRIPLE SPLIT. It is a logical evolu-tion of the DOUBLE SPLIT introduced by A. Lange & Söhne in 2004. With a precisely jumping rattrapante minute counter, it was no doubt already an impressive milestone in the development of modern rattrapante mechanisms conceived by the Saxon watchmakers.

Applications handled by the TRIPLE SPLIT

Stopping times of up to twelve hours is possible with the TRIPLE SPLIT – that alone is a rarity in a mechanical chronograph. The extension of the rattrapante function to the hour counter of-fers a multitude of further possibilities. For instance, the TRIPLE SPLIT can compare the times of two opponents in a Formula One race, a Tour de France stage, or a marathon.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It is also pos-sible to stop the times of consecutively starting events or add together the times of multiple-hour events such as the duration of the individual Ironman disciplines. Any number of lap times can be stopped during additive time measurements.

Measuring lap times with the TRIPLE SPLIT

In the starting position, the three rhodiumed rattrapante hands are superposed on the respec-tive chronograph hands. The time measurement is started by pressing the chronograph pusher at 2 o'clock. The pairs of hands now run synchronously until they are separated by pressing the rattrapante pusher at 10 o'clock to perform a lap-time measurement.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The three rhodiumed hands will then stop to display the lap time. All the while, the previously concealed chronograph hands in gold-plated steel or pink gold continue the time measurement. As soon as the rat-trapante pusher is pressed again, the rattrapante hands catch up with the chronograph hands and from then on run together with them again.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The movement is also endowed with a flyback function that involves all three hand pairs as well. Thus, the chronograph can be reset to zero by pressing the chronograph pusher at 4 o'clock during an ongoing time measurement. Releasing the pusher instantly starts a new time measurement.

The manufacture calibre L132.1*

The Lange calibre L132.1 is a movement that stands out with its three-dimensionality, complexi-ty, and architecturally pleasing design. It highlights the finissage that is typical of the individual Lange components. Overall, 567 tiny parts are perfectly adjusted for flawless interaction. This complexity is not a show, it is mechanically necessary to enable this unique TRIPLE SPLIT function.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The creation of a mechanism which makes it possible to collectively or separately control three hand pairs represented a formidable technical challenge for Lange's developers. Even a simple rattrapante mechanism has two hands attached to arbors that run one inside the other. In the calibre L132.1, this pairing exists three times. During the assembly of the movement, the multi-ple-function axes call for the utmost precision and virtuosity.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A glance through the sapphire-crystal caseback reveals the chronograph movement that is fin-ished to the strictest Lange standards and adjusted to assure the perfect interaction of column wheels, clutches, rockers, levers, springs, and jumpers.

Five gold chatons, traditionally secured with screws on bridges decorated with Glashütte ribbing as well as the hand-engraved balance cock round off the stylish prominence of the movement. Thus, the TRIPLE SPLIT is an excep-tional timepiece, not only technically but also as regards its flawless artisanship; in the chrono-graph class, it plays in a league of its own.

A. Lange & Sohne – SAXONIA TRIPLE SPLIT White Gold Edition

A. Lange & SohneSAXONIA TRIPLE SPLIT Chronograph White Gold 43.2 Grey Dial Limited Edition

TRIPLE SPLIT
A new dimension in timekeeping

The TRIPLE SPLIT is the first mechanical split-seconds chronograph in the world that allows multi-hour comparative time measurements. Additional rat-trapante hands on the minute and hour totalisers make it possible to stop lap and reference times of events that last as long as twelve hours.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

On 17 July 2016, German triathlete Jan Frodeno achieved a new world record for the triath-lon long distance. In an amazing seven hours, 35 minutes and 39 seconds, he mastered the combination of swimming 3.8 kilometres, cycling 180 kilometres and running 42.2 kilome-tres.
It took 20 minutes and 44 seconds longer for the runner-up, Joe Skipper of Britain, to reach the finish line. Among all mechanical rattrapante chronographs, only one would have been able to precisely record the times of the winner and the second-placed competi-tor in hours, minutes and seconds: the new TRIPLE SPLIT by A. Lange & Söhne.

The only split-seconds chronograph in the world that can measure additive and compara-tive times for as long as twelve hours is in a league of its own. At the same time, it has bro-ken the house record of the DOUBLE SPLIT, which in 2004 allowed the first comparative measurements with an aggregate duration of 30 minutes and since then has defended its unique position.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

With a precisely jumping rattrapante minute counter and a continuous rattrapante hour counter, the TRIPLE SPLIT multiplies the measuring range of the rat-trapante function by a factor of 24. This covers many more diversified and interesting ap-plications: for instance, the TRIPLE SPLIT can compare the times of two opponents in a Formula 1 race, a Tour de France leg or a marathon.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
It can also record the times of consecu-tively starting events, such as the outbound and return legs of a long-haul flight. Also, it is possible to add the times of multi-hour events, such as the duration of individual Ironman disciplines. Any number of lap times can be stopped during an additive time measurement.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
The TRIPLE SPLIT – which comes in a limited edition of 100 pieces – is endowed with a fly-back function that involves all three hand pairs as well. Thus, the chronograph can be reset and instantly restarted by pressing the lower chronograph pusher even during an ongoing measurement. A power-reserve indicator based on Lange's typical UP/DOWN display shows how much of the 55-hour reserve remains available.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
The well-organized grey dial in solid silver is colour-coordinated with the 18-carat white-gold case that has a diameter is 43.2 millimetres. The three rattrapante hands in blued steel clearly set themselves apart from the rhodiumed chronograph hands. The hands that display the time and the applied baton hour markers are made of rhodiumed gold. The hour and minute hands are luminous.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
The TRIPLE SPLIT asserts Lange's ambition to enrich precision watchmaking with useful innovations. The development of a triple rattrapante mechanism that controls the three hand pairs collectively or separately confronted the engineers with enormous technical challenges.
Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Even a simple rattrapante mechanism has two hands attached to arbors that run one inside the other. In the case of the triple rattrapante mechanism, this arrangement is three-fold: two seconds hands as well as two hands each for the minute and hour coun-ters. For the watchmaker, the multiple arbor configurations require the ultimate in dexteri-ty and extreme patience in adjusting the endshakes.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
The design of the movement assures that neither the measurement of lap times nor the pro-gression of the precisely jumping minute counter has a negative effect on rate stability. The normally unavoidable loss of amplitude is prevented by a disengagement mechanism devel-oped and patented by A. Lange & Söhne. Without this device, friction losses would occur when the rattrapante function is activated. Because it rotates slowly and continuously, the hour counter does not need such a mechanism.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The manufacture calibre L132.1 is a newly developed movement that significantly distinguishes itself from the calibre L001.1 of the DOUBLE SPLIT. The power-reserve indicator has been shifted down to provide more display space for the rattrapante hour counter in the upper part of the dial.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
Despite the extended functionality, the engineers succeeded in integrating the additional components in the movement so ingeniously that the case did not have to be enlarged in comparison with the DOUBLE SPLIT

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
A glance through the sapphire-crystal caseback reveals the chronograph movement finished to the highest Lange standards as well as the painstakingly choreographed interaction of wheels, levers, springs, clutches and jumpers that illustrates the stunning complexity of the project.
