Olivier Kuhn – "Métier d'Art" The Pearl of the Dragon White Gold Edition – Unique Piece 2022
The Pearl of the Dragon reveals and divulges its creator, the
passionate master of miniatures Olivier Kuhn. After bringing several
famous horological miniatures to life, and with years of experience in
Geneva and throughout Switzerland, Olivier Kuhn has embarked on a new
challenge: make a unique watch inspired by the theme of imperial China.

Entirely designed and created by himself, this piece is the fruit of two
years of work. This first work of art was designed to whisk you away,
to the beat of its hands, to a universe of power, strength and
aestheticism.

Housing an imperial Chinese dragon in 18K yellow gold that reigns
over the movement’s balance wheel, every technical and aesthetic detail
has been designed with the meticulousness required to make it a piece of
watchmaking art. The dragon is inscribed in three dimensions with
elements perceptible from both sides of the watch. The dragon and its
scenery fill the entire volume of the case, and every detail invites you
to explore the depth of this achievement.

This piece of art takes you on a journey through a traditional decor
as an integral part of the piece is inspired by the wall of the nine
dragons in the Forbidden City of Beijing. Here, the dragon’s head and
tail can be seen pointing to the sky, conveying a message of positivity
and perseverance desired by its creator. Passionate about the details
that make all the difference,
Olivier Kuhn has subtly designed a
dragon’s eye that only appears when the two hands cross.

Eager and keen to share his passion for authenticity and beauty, he
has succeeded in giving the mystical beast a proven authenticity:
2,185
hand-engraved scales, parts shaded with acrylic paint, and a genuine
pearl of exceptional quality added to the dragon’s right front paw to
represent the pearl of fire.

To conclude this immersion in the mastery of artistic techniques
required for a fine craftsmanship watch, the piece is encased in a white
gold case with no visible screws, highlighting the dragon that seems to
levitate within the watch. This technically complex feat makes the
Pearl of the Dragon a unique masterpiece numbered
1/1.

Today after 2 and a half years of work, I am moved and proud to be able to present it to you, also thanks to the precious collaborations that helped me to make this piece, I am thinking of
@concepto_watch_factory , @pibor_iso_sa, W Laser, Altmann Casting and also others who supported me until the end. Moreover, to push back my challenge, my watch is registered for the GPHG in the category "Métier d'art" where all the technical details are mentioned.
If I had thought one day, while training in watchmaking 13 years ago, that I would present my own watch, I would not have believed it. It was a dream and I realize it.
Can't wait to have your feelings for this first creation.
