Today, the Fears Watch Company, a leading British luxury watch company, launches its first high complication watch, the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar. The new 39mm perpetual calendar joins the Fears core collection of hand-built British watches being a nonlimited edition. Launched in the 10th year since Fears was re-established by its founder’s great-great-great-grandson in 2016, the perpetual calendar features a new case architecture with wide polished bevels making it the slimmest Brunswick watch in the collection. The watch is the first Fears to feature a moonphase complication, with a hand finished moon disc displayed at 6 o’clock. Powering the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar is a movement made by Dubois Dépraz in Switzerland, modified specifically for this watch and features a solid 18ct Gold rotor.

The Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar brings the classic Brunswick case together with the first high complication the company has produced in 180 years. The perpetual calendar shows the time (hours and minutes), day, date, month and the year within the leap year cycle accurately, with no adjustment required until the year 2100. Once set and kept wound, the owner has the confidence to know these key pieces of information at a moments glance via the watch’s highly legible dial. Joining the calendar function is a moonphase at 6 o’clock with a clean, black lacquer disc, inset with two silver moons hand-finished with Charbonage (representative of the moon’s surface). The running seconds are not present to avoid distraction, keeping the case to a svelte 9.4mm thickness in keeping with the tradition of historic perpetual calendar wrist watches.

Powered by a modified Dubois Dépraz perpetual calendar module, atop a hand-finished Sellita SW300, the watch’s movement has its own calibre reference; 55115, exclusive to Fears. The base movement is hand finished with frosted bridges and plates, including hand Anglage applied to the bridge’s edges with a dark Rhodium finish. The movement is wound automatically by a custom solid 18ct Gold rotor featuring the Fears ‘Bristol Flower’ motif. 

Housed in the slimmest cushion-shaped Brunswick case made to date, measuring 39mm across, the perpetual calendar debuts a new case architecture with large, polished bevels across the case band. The bezel and open display case back both feature a concave profile which catches the light whilst highlighting the slim proportions of the watch. The corrector pushers are neatly integrated into the brushed case band for setting (and re-setting) the calendar, having been specially engineered to sit within the centre of the case. The case features a usable 5 ATM (50m) water resistance allowing the watch to be worn every day, while bathing, showering or when caught in the rain.

The time and date are displayed on a softly frosted dial, called ‘Silver Mink’, which is coated in a warm pure silver giving a distinctive vibrancy. Despite the large amount of information displayed, the dial remains highly legible, thanks to large calendar sub-dials with circular grooves and a new bespoke set of curved numerals and letters. Created inhouse by Fears’ Senior Design Manager, Lee Yuen-Rapati, the ‘Bristol’ numerals and letters are created to fit the curve of the sub-dial, perfectly aiding their legibility. The hours are shown with quadbevelled diamond polished, hand-applied indices which are coated in black gold to match the tri-bevelled hour and minute hands.

The Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar joins the existing Fears Garrick in a new ‘Eminence Collection’ of luxury Fears timepieces featuring hand-finished movements, haute horology construction and detailing. Accompanying each Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar is a hand-made and hand-stitched ‘Walnut Brown’ Ostrich foot strap complete with a Fears Blue Alcantara® lining. Contrasting nicely with the ‘Silver Mink’ dial the strap brings out the warmth of the black gold coated hands and indices. The watch is presented in a new bespoke ‘Edwin’ box in Fears Blue stained Ash with a representation of the Union Jack flag picked out in subtle marquetry on the box’s lid. Each watch is supplied with a SwissKubik Swiss Made watch winder in Fears Blue and a bespoke Fears corrector pin.

Commenting on the launch of the Fears Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar, Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, (4th) Managing Director of the Fears Watch Company, says:

“Since I first started to appreciate mechanical watches in my early teenage years, I’ve always been fascinated by the perpetual calendar complication. The fact that a wrist watch can display all the vital information regarding the day of the week, date and which month you’re currently in, accurately with no adjustment except for in the year 2100, feels somewhat magical. Creating a watch like the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar is not like anything else we’ve undertaken in the past 10 years since I re-started my family’s company. To create a perpetual calendar worthy of the Fears name meant not only working with our trusted partners across Switzerland and Germany but also pushing our Design department to design and engineer a watch that lives up to our motto of “Elegantly Understated” absolutely.

When our Senior Design Manager, Lee Yuen-Rapati, first sketched out what a Fears perpetual calendar could look like at the beginning of 2022 I realised that I wanted this not to be a limited run, exclusive to a few, but to offer it as part of our core collection. The final result combines a stunning new Brunswick case architecture with its wide bevels and satin brushed sides with a classic yet contemporary dial all in a slim watch that sits close to the wrist comfortably.

Joining the Fears Garrick, the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar marks the progression of a new ‘Eminence Collection’ of high-end Fears watches that allows us to show the very best that Fears can create. The Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar isn’t designed to be worn solely for special occasions but rather as a watch that can be enjoyed every day on the wrist. For a select few we are taking it even further with a small number of bespoke pieces made by our Fears Custom Division in Platinum.”

Graphic symmetry and vintage black-and-white aesthetics: the Contograf 31504 from 1969 joins the Eberhard & Co. Museum collection 

A new timepiece has been added to the Eberhard & Co. Museum: an original Contograf model dating back to 1969. This watch belongs to the historic collection introduced in the early 1960s, through which the Maison expressed its core expertise—chronography—during a period of profound transformation in the watchmaking world. Under the Contograf name, over nearly twenty years, several sporty chronographs were produced, featuring different technical and stylistic solutions, yet united by a bold and distinctive design approach that continued beyond 1969 under the direction of Palmiro Monti, who led the Maison during a complex phase for traditional Swiss watchmaking marked by the rise of quartz technology.

The Eberhard & Co. Contograf reference 31504 is a manual-winding mechanical chronograph equipped with two counters and a date display, powered by the Calibre Eb 310-82. This hand-wound chronograph movement features running seconds, a chronograph minute counter, and a date function, designed for precise short-time measurement and clear readability of chronograph information.

From an aesthetic perspective, the oval case with its rounded lines recalls certain models from the Scafograf diver collection (such as the Scafograf 400 and Scafograf Super, also from 1969). The overall design anticipates 1970s trends, with a strong graphic and striking aesthetic, reflecting a time when the sports watch was conceived as a daily companion that still expressed personality and character.

The dial features the chronograph minute counter at 3 o’clock with an original extended scale allowing readability from 30 to 45 minutes, a solution found in many models of the period. Running seconds are displayed at 9 o’clock, while the date window is positioned at 6 o’clock. The tachymeter and telemeter scales are not printed on the dial but instead screen-printed on the inner surface of the plexiglass crystal.

The watch comes in a 43 mm waterproof stainless-steel case with a screw-down case back. The black dial with two symmetrically designed white counters follows a “reverse panda” layout, enhancing legibility while creating a striking concentric visual balance through alternating tones. Applied luminous square indices match the shape of the date window at 6 o’clock, which replaces the corresponding index to preserve dial symmetry. Baton hands with luminous inserts ensure clear readability, while the white central chronograph hand allows immediate identification of the active function.

Overall, the model achieves a balance between technical purpose and formal clarity: a substantial case in terms of proportions, softened by flowing lines and a carefully structured dial that guides readability. Schaffhausen, August 27^th, 2026: To mark the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix, IWC Schaffhausen unveils a new team watch for its longstanding partner, the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One^TM Team. In October, the team is set to compete at the sport’s first night race, completing 62 laps on the iconic Marina Bay Street Circuit. Crafted from a robust and lightweight Grade 5 titanium alloy, the 41-millimeter chronograph features a dial in a deep purple shade – a first in IWC’s Pilot’s collection. The lively color is inspired by Singapore’s national flower, an orchid called Vanda Miss Joaquim. As with previous team watches, the dial also features details in the team’s signature green shade. The new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One^TM Team (Ref. IW388121) is a robustly engineered chronograph equally at home in the paddock and on the wrist. The defining feature of this edition is its dial in a deep, saturated purple. The color is a tribute to the city of Singapore and its national flower; an orchid bred in 1893 by Armenian-Singaporean horticulturist Agnes Joaquim.

It serves as Singapore’s national emblem and is said to represent resilience, boldness and innovation – traits and values that are also found in the shared universe of IWC and the MercedesAMG PETRONAS Formula One^TM Team. Under its colorful surface, the Vanda Miss Joaquim hides the enormous complexity of nature – just like the pure, instrumentstyle dial of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 hides the complexity of the mechanical movement underneath.

The launch of the new team watch also accompanies a new collection by adidas, the official team partner and kit supplier. The collection is centered around the core of adaptive precision in F1^TM engineering and the performance-driven identity of adidas.

As with all previous team watches, the new chronograph also carries accents in the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One^TM Team’s signature color. The distinctive PETRONAS green shade marks the numerals and indices; applied as a luminescent coating on the hands, it cuts a compelling contrast against the dial’s rich purple. The eye-catching design is complemented by a purple rubber strap. Thanks to the EasX-CHANGE^® system, it can be swapped for another strap option at the touch of a button.

A MATERIAL FORGED FOR MOTORSPORT

The case, measuring 41 millimeters in diameter, is crafted from Grade 5 titanium – a material prized throughout Formula One^TM for its favorable strength-to-density ratio and resistance to heat. Titanium tips the scales at roughly half the weight of steel and does not corrode.

The metal is not only used in engine components such as connecting rods and valves but also plays a direct role in ensuring drivers’ safety on the racetrack: the Halo device, which arches over the cockpit as a protective roll structure, is likewise machined from a high-strength titanium alloy. The watch’s titanium case carries a brushed finish that draws out the metal’s distinctive silvery-gray luster.

A CHRONOGRAPH ENGINEERED FOR PRECISION AND RESILIENCE

Beating inside is the IWC-manufactured 69385 caliber, a mechanical chronograph built on a classical columnwheel architecture and engineered with a focus on precision, reliability, and robustness. The stop minutes are indicated at 12 o’clock via IWC’s hallmark vertical subdial layout, making elapsed-time readings effortless and intuitive. This dial configuration has been a signature feature of IWC’s Pilot’s Chronographs for more than four decades.

The combined day-date display at 3 o’clock adds a layer of everyday practicality. A bidirectional pawl winding system provides a 46-hour power reserve. Finished with Geneva stripes and circular graining, the movement can be viewed through the transparent sapphire-glass case back.

The Villoresi Chronograph is a highly refined interpretation of the original Lowenthal chronograph gifted by Enzo Ferrari to Mille Miglia and Siracusa Grand Prix Winner Luigi “Gigi” Villoresi in 1951.

Produced in an edition of only 48 pieces in various colors, each watch is individually re-mastered and finished by hand.

To complement the caliber’s historic character, Lowenthal developed a proprietary dial-aging process using period-correct materials and techniques.  Each dial undergoes a controlled maturation cycle before being permanently stabilized, resulting in a unique patina and an irreproducible expression of time.

It all started with a mission:  to build the finest chronometer and chronograph. Founded in the 1930s by Bovet Frères in Fleurier, Switzerland, Lowenthal gained recognition for its precision chronometers and chronographs crafted for the Latin European markets.

The French era….

From the 1930s through the postwar years, Lowenthal watches were retailed by the esteemed Parisian house Hermès. The timepieces embodied a distinctly European vision of the fine sports watch: elegant, precise, and built to endure. At a time when most men's wristwatches remained modest in size, Lowenthal offered oversized models reaching up to 41 mm in diameter, giving them a commanding presence rarely seen in their era.

It was a golden age of motoring and mechanical craftsmanship. Chronographs accompanied gentlemen drivers on the roads between Paris, Monaco, and the Riviera, serving as practical instruments for precise timekeeping.

The surviving Lowenthal timepieces from this period reflect the values that continue to define the maison today: mechanical purity, restrained luxury, and enduring craftsmanship, making them the natural choice of gentlemen, drivers, and professionals.

The horological innovation that changed the race…

A pivotal moment for Lowenthal came in 1935 when Charles Jeanrenaud-Bovet introduced the “mono-rattrapante” chronograph, an innovation that simplified the traditional split-seconds chronograph by using a single seconds hand that could be stopped to record intermediate times and then released to catch up, all controlled by a single pusher.

The Italian era…

This innovation was exclusively used by Lowenthal and Bovet Freres, tailored to the growing demands of Italian motorsport. This breakthrough redefined timekeeping for racing and cemented Lowenthal’s exclusive presence in the Italian market.  

Lowenthal watches were the preferred choice for accurate and easy time measurement during the golden age of car racing, when Scuderia Ferrari dominated racing circuits and Formula One.

Enzo Ferrari personally gifted a Lowenthal watch to Luigi 'Gigi' Villoresi in celebration of his victory at the 1951 Syracuse Grand Prix, the inaugural Formula One race held in Syracuse, Sicily, on March 11, 1951.

This achievement marked just one of many remarkable triumphs for both Scuderia Ferrari and Villoresi, who also celebrated sensational victories at the Mille Miglia, Pau Grand Prix, Genoa Grand Prix, Marseille Grand Prix, and Senigallia Grand Prix.

Lowenthal was a subsidiary of Bovet Fleurier and largely manufactured large chronograph wristwatches from the 1940s.

The new tradition…

In 2016, Lowenthal returned to the stewardship of horological entrepreneur Harry Guhl, opening a new chapter for the historic maison.

Dial & Hands

Domed dial in Palladio Verde crafted, using period-correct manufacturing processes. Each dial is individually aged through a controlled patina process and subsequently stabilized to preserve its distinctive character.

Steel hands are thermally treated at carefully controlled temperatures, producing a range of natural oxide colors unique to each watch.

Movement, Caliber 2518

Exceptionally rare hand-wound artisanal chronograph movement. 

To pair with the age of the caliber 2518, we have developed a technique to give the watch dials an authentic 1950s patina, making each piece uniquely aged and distinctive.
