Since its creation in 1846, the independent Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin has been anchored to the high seas. Dozens of the world’s navies once relied on its marine chronometers to provide essential navigational assistance and the Maison’s reputation for supreme mechanical accuracy stretched across continents. Almost 180 years later, Ulysse Nardin remains a pioneer of precision mechanical watches.

Now, Ulysse Nardin returns to the water with the Diver Hammerhead Shark, a muscular, high-performing watch that captures both the Manufacture’s disruptive approach to high horology and its continuing commitment to ocean conservation.

The watch was created by Ulysse Nardin to tell the story of shark conservation and to raise funds for non-profit organisations dedicated to the protection of these species. Previous editions have celebrated the Great White Shark, the Lemon Shark and the Blue Shark. This new edition is named after the majestic Hammerhead Shark

ccording to the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List, the global populations of all recorded Hammerhead Shark species are in decline. The Scalloped and Great Hammerhead are both listed by the IUCN as ‘critically endangered’ due to overfishing, pollution and climate change.

The release of the Diver Hammerhead Shark is supported by Ulysse Nardin Brand Ambassador Mike Coots. Mike lost a leg to a tiger shark as a teenager and has since become a passionate advocate for greater understanding and protection of the world’s shark populations. Ulysse Nardin is proud to call Mike a friend and to benefit from his passion and knowledge.

The Diver Hammerhead Shark, which tells the story of one of the ocean’s most beautiful and most misunderstood creatures, will be released on 7 May.

MIKE COOTS:
AN ADVOCATE FOR SHARKS

After a life-changing shark attack left him with one leg, Mike Coots determined to devote his life to shark advocacy. This is his story.

Mike Coots was just 18 years old when his life changed forever. Bodyboarding off the coast of Hawaii’s Kauai Island, he felt a sudden and painful tug on his right leg. It had been bitten off by a Tiger Shark. A tussle ensued, Mike only escaping with his life after punching the shark on the nose.

While many shark attack survivors would develop a life-long fear of the water, Mike’s terrifying ordeal only made him love it more. Friends bought him a camera so he could photograph surfers from the shore while he recovered from amputation, but only a month after the surgery he was back in the ocean.

Fitted with a prosthetic leg, he learned to ride the waves once again. While life would never be the same, he adapted quickly, seizing new opportunities that came his way. He became a professional photographer and artist, and learned to dive, shadowing marine biologists and documenting their work studying sharks.

“It’s funny how a 10-second moment can change your life forever, says Mike. “Over the years I fell in love more and more with sharks. Not only are they beautiful, they are also imperative for a healthy planet Earth.”

Rather than resenting the creatures that claimed his leg and nearly his life, he developed a deep empathy for them and determined to understand them better, not as ‘killers’ but as apex predators and keystone species in a complex ecosystem. In doing so, he learned quickly of the profound threats to sharks posed by overfishing, pollution and climate change.

Today, Mike’s work as a photographer, artist and advocate for marine conservation have made him one of the world’s most respected voices on sharks and their habitats. His efforts were vital to the successful campaign to pass legislation that in 2010 made it illegal to possess shark fins in Hawaii.

Sharks have been on this planet for over 450 million years,he says. “That alone says how important they must be to it.

In 2022, Mike Coots became a Brand Ambassador for Ulysse Nardin and has since collaborated with the Swiss watchmaking Maison to raise awareness about the need to protect threatened shark species.

The ocean nearly took my life, but it’s given me so much more, he says. “We have a word in Hawaiian, ‘kuleana’. It means responsibility. My way of giving back is to be an advocate for sharks.”

DEEP DIVING WITH THE
DIVER[HAMMERHEAD SHARK]

The Ulysse Nardin Diver Hammerhead Shark is a high-performance dive watch created to help raise funds and awareness for the plight of one of the world’s most threatened species.

The Diver Hammerhead Shark is based on the Ulysse Nardin Diver, a high-horology dive watch that builds on the independent Swiss Maison’s unique maritime heritage, which began almost 180 years ago. It comes with 300 metres of water resistance, a uni-directional rotating bezel for timing dives, lumed detailing, and a clearly visible running seconds hand that indicates the watch is operational.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The watch is powered by the flagship UN-118 Manufacture Movement, a reliable self-winding calibre with an escapement made of DiamonSil and balance spring in silicon, Ulysse Nardin’s revolutionary antimagnetic, lubrication-free silicon technology. It has a 60-hour power reserve, indicated by a gauge at 12 o’clock, and a date-corrector that allows for forward and backward date setting.

THE CASE

The Diver [HAMMERHEAD SHARK] has a 44mm titanium case finished with a deep ocean blue PVD treatment. The grippy uni-directional rotating bezel has a rubberised blue insert and features a 60-minute scale for timing dives.

THE DIAL

The blue sandblasted dial is enhanced with a red and blue X, echoing a motif that repeats through the
Ulysse Nardin collection and that communicates the explosive nature of the Maison’s approach to
watchmaking design and technology.

At 6 o’clock, the dial features a small seconds with a lumed running seconds hand, an essential component in a dive watch that must be able to indicate that the watch is running and keeping good time in low-light conditions. Tucked neatly into this is a round date window.

THE POWER

The Diver [HAMMERHEAD SHARK] offers a 60-hour power reserve, which is indicated by a lumed hand.
THE CROWN

The watch’s notched, screw-down crown is flanked by two red crown protectors designed to deflect
accidental impacts.
THE STRAPS

The watch comes with a choice of two straps. First in blue rubber with a red Hammerhead Shark motif, a
blue PVD titanium tang buckle and a single blue PVD titanium link decorated with the Ulysse Nardin logo. The second strap is in a blue fabric with red edging and a Velcro scratch fastening system.

CASE BACK

The watch’s blue-PVD-coated titanium case back is engraved with a Hammerhead Shark motif and red detailing indicating the model number, limited edition and 300-metre water resistance.

The back of the single titanium link that features in the rubber strap option is engraved with the 1% for the Planet logo.

Ulysse Nardin – BLAST [ Amourex Peintre ] Gray Titanium 42mm Edition

Ulysse Nardin BLAST [Amourex Peintre] “Frosted” Skeleton Dial 42mm Grey Titanium Edition2025

A FUSION OF THINKERS

The independent Swiss watch Manufacture Ulysse Nardin, known for its wild mindset and unconventional designs, partners with fashion designer Amoureuxpeintre, presenting an artistic interpretation of a horological object, the Blast Amoureuxpeintre.

United by a shared desire to challenge the boundaries and to shatter convention, the collaboration between Ulysse Nardin and Amoureuxpeintre began with a deep reflection on the world around us, focusing on the often-overlooked visual cues of everyday life.

“Hidden meanings are all around us—you just need to look closer to engage and understand how things truly work,” shares the designer.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Ulysse Nardin has built wild horological objects that have stood the test of time and achieved icon status amongst watch collectors. The Maison has long been at the forefront of redefining time telling conventions, first shattering traditions with the Freak in 2001 — a watch with no hands, no dial, and no crown. Yet, it still tells the time. In this spirit of creative disruption, the fashion designer, artist, and model Amoureuxpeintre sought to convey a minimalist yet emotional expression of time, creating a piece that sparks deeper reflection and encourages the wearer to find meaning below the surface.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

“Amoureuxpeintre is a very curious, intelligent and articulate designer. He has an energy you find amongst younger generations, where everything feels possible, and boundaries do not exist. He is rooted in his origins, but is a citizen of the world. This boundless spirit has translated into a collaboration that pushes the limits in terms of design.” Jean-Christophe Sabatier, Chief Product Officer, Ulysse Nardin.

Staying true to Ulysse Nardin and Amoureuxpeintre’s legacy as mavericks and innovators, this groundbreaking collaboration celebrates the curiosity embedded in everyday life, uncovering the hidden meanings that often go unnoticed in our surroundings.

 AMOUREUXPEINTRE

For Kyrgyzstan-born Vsevolod Sever Cherepanov, known by the artistic moniker Amoureuxpeintre, his philosophy is rooted in the belief that simplicity invites deeper inquiry, prompting an exploration of an object’s true essence. Rooted in his Eastern European sensibility, the designer is driven by a passion for unorthodox, yet modest design, which nods to his collaborative feats with Nike, tenure under Matthew Williams’ brand Alyx, the launch of his own clothing brand SEVER in 2016, and GENESIS 2.0 in 2019, exploring upcycling techniques to craft unique objects.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Fascinated by how objects are composed and how they evoke emotion, Amoureuxpeintre became one of the first designers to incorporate augmented reality prints into clothing. His work challenges traditional dress codes, creating collections that transcend occasion and redefine style. He has since broadened his portfolio to include HOME 2.0, an interiors division, and SOLUTIONS 2.0, a production and design agency.

Amoureuxpeintre’s unique approach to design knows no limits of form. From furniture, album art direction, to the design and production of accessories, the polymath brings his investigative vision to a horological object with an eye for monochromatic palettes, with clean and understated form. For Amoureuxpeintre, the beauty and meaning of an object is truly revealed through simplicity.

MINIMALISM, BY ESSENCE

Since its foundation in 1846, the rulebook of Ulysse Nardin was written to defy convention and reconfigure tradition. United by a shared spirit of audacity, both visionaries imagined this exclusive limited-edition series of 29 masterpieces as a canvas to reshape traditional ways of seeing, an invitation to question the role of its elements beyond their initial appearance and encouraging deeper interpretation.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Amoureuxpeintre’s minimalist vision, sharp geometry, and scarcity of silhouette converge into a timepiece that reimagines the expression of time. For this project, the designer presents a stark, idiosyncratic design language that speaks to a youth culture of curious individuals, inspired by in depth meaning and the authenticity of objects. As such, the artist was inspired by the frosted glass panes that occupy the walls in daily working spaces. Through these frames, silhouettes are distorted – apparent, but not obvious, presenting both clarity and mystery.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

“Ulysse Nardin is a brand that gave me a whole new perspective on the watchmaking industry, allowing me to see the depth and versatility of the different parts of a single product. I have transferred this insight into the concept of designing a product that comes together. This design should evoke a desire to look inside, to discover new meanings and inspire us to see more of the world around us."Vsevolod Cherepanov Amoureuxpeintre”.

BLAST[AMOUREUX PEINTRE]

Born from a shared enthusiasm for rejecting the status quo, the watch celebrates the balance between revealing the mechanics of the timepiece in a subtle, restrained way—inviting the wearer to discover meaning beyond the surface.

Guided by Amoureuxpeintre’s pure and minimalist artistic vision, Ulysse Nardin meticulously reimagined every element of the Skeleton X, creating a one-of-a-kind timepiece, which is a combination of transparency and blurriness, that transforms the concept of reading time. By removing elements from the dial, Ulysse Nardin achieved a design that seamlessly combines minimalism, functionality, and readability.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

At the heart of this creation beats the Manufacture Calibre UN-371, offering a 96-hour power reserve and featuring one of the FREAK VISION’s greatest innovations: a wide, super-light balance wheel in silicon, with nickel flyweights.

The 42 mm anthracite lightweight sandblasted titanium case and bezel complement Amoureuxpeintre’s muted color palette and visionary aesthetic. The watch features a frosted open sapphire case back adorned with Amoureuxpeintre’s signature, while the crown has been refined, removing any ribbed texture to enhance the clean lines of the design. Beneath the anthracite hands coated with grey Superluminova, an unmistakable blurred sapphire skeleton dial brings this concept to life. The frosted-ice effect was achieved through an advanced laser technique, while the fumé effect was created using thin metallization. This ingenious and artfully blurred result was the culmination of over two years of development.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The result is a dial that subtly exposes the skeletonized movement’s outlines, faintly revealing the mechanics of time like a window of deconstruction. After all, if modern luxury isn’t just about what you wear, but what you know, an introspection into the watch and the sum of its parts reveals just that.

This limited-edition series of 29 artworks is presented on a modern grey Alcantara strap, paired with an anthracite PVD titanium sandblasted tang buckle. A special watch box, crafted in anthracite and grey tones, completes this exceptional collaboration.

“In my nine years at Ulysse Nardin, we’ve developed some of the most technically complicated projects. This watch stands as one of the most intricate, not only in terms of modifying the components around the calibre but also in giving it a unique personality," says Jean-Christophe Sabatier, Chief Product Officer, Ulysse Nardin.

Ulysse Nardin – FREAK X Enamel Seddiqi Exclusive Edition

Ulysse Nardin FREAK X Enamel Seddiqi “Yas Blue” Grey Titanium Exclusive Edition2024

WORLDS COLLIDE

The 30-piece limited-edition Freak X Enamel Seddiqi marries métiers d’art techniques with state-of-the-art watchmaking, and celebrates the partnership between elite Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin and Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, the Middle East ’s leading luxury watch retailer.

Ulysse Nardin, the independent Swiss watch maison that has been disrupting haute horlogerie since 1846, is delighted to introduce the new Freak X Enamel Seddiqi, a watch that celebrates shared cultures, traditions and artistic passions that span continents.

The Freak X Enamel Seddiqi is based on the design and movement properties of a 21st century watchmaking icon, Ulysse Nardin’s Freak, which rewrote the horological rulebook when it was introduced in 2001 by pioneering the use of silicon technology in watchmaking.

The exclusive new watch builds on the timeless story of the Freak’s ‘no hands and no dial’ movement architecture, and tells it afresh with an exquisite guilloché and enamelled hour disc that highlights Ulysse Nardin’s mastery of métiers d’art.

Coloured in “Yas Blue” enamel to echo the piercing electric blue of the evening sky as the sun sets over the waters of the Gulf of Arabia, the Freak X Enamel Seddiqi’s hour disc is the work of very skilled artisans at Ulysse Nardin’s Donzé Cadrans Manufacture in Le Locle and the result of a complex, painstaking process.

Coloured in “Yas Blue” enamel to echo the piercing electric blue of the evening sky as the sun sets over the waters of the Gulf of Arabia, the Freak X Enamel Seddiqi’s hour disc is the work of very skilled artisans at Ulysse Nardin’s Donzé Cadrans Manufacture in Le Locle and the result of a complex, painstaking

First, the gold guilloché hour disc has a texture that gives the watch an additional visual dimension, resulting in a geometric pattern that gives it a balanced, modern feel. Then Ulysse Nardin’s enamellers add four layers of water-based enamel to it. The enamel begins as a solid, which is then broken down with a pestle and mortar into a fine powder, before it is transformed into a paste with water. Between each layer, the disc is fi red at temperatures of 800 degrees Celsius and then cooled. Cooling takes just one minute. A final, crucial layer of translucent “fondant” enamel gives the disc surface a glossy finish that will be immediately recognisable to métiers d’art connoisseurs.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

For the enamellers, there’s jeopardy in every layer. The disc will be fi red at least fi ve times and the kiln is merciless: each time, the risk is that the enamel will bubble and spoil, at which point, the process must start again. This tension is one of the reasons skilled enamellers are such a rare breed, and why only the very fi nest watches carry enamel decorations.

Sitting on top of this mesmerising hour disc is Caliber UN-230 Manufacture, an automatic with a 72-hour power reserve. The Freak’s signature carousel flying tourbillon features an oversize oscillator and a silicon escapement, and doubles as the watch’s minutes hand, making a full tour of the dial every 60 minutes. A pointer on the hour disc shows the hour against fl oating baton hour markers.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The watch is cased in 43 mm of grey titanium and comes on a black rubber “ballistic” strap with white stitching and a titanium folding buckle. Due to the technical and artisanal complexity of this beautiful horological object, only 30 pieces will be made, and they will only be available through Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, the United Arab Emirates’ largest and most pioneering luxury watch and jewellery retailer.

BACKSTORY

In the spring of 2001, Ulysse Nardin changed the course of watchmaking history forever with the introduction of the revolutionary Freak. To look at, the first Freak posed lots of questions. It had no dial, no hands and no crown, and yet it was unmistakably a mechanical watch. How was this possible? Did it really work? And how did it work? No one had ever seen anything like it. Because there had never been anything like it before.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

But that was only the start of the story. Because beyond its unique appearance and function, it was powered by a gamechanging movement that contained a high-tech new watchmaking material: silicon.

Silicon was watchmaking wonderstuff. Conspicuous in its silvery blue, it brought myriad benefits to a mechanical watch. It was lightweight, elastic, almost completely frictionless, and highly resistant to magnetism, shocks and changes in temperature. On top of this, it could also be produced in unusual shapes and to fine tolerances. It was the perfect material for creating high-tech, ultra-modern mechanical watch components.

Indeed, mechanical watches with silicon parts, it was quickly established, would be more precise, more accurate and more reliable. This made the Freak a line-in-the-sand watch. And it meant a new chapter in watchmaking had begun, almost three centuries after the last.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Freak took its name from the maverick, disruptive, rulebreaking spirit that spawned it and quickly became known for its daring aesthetic, unconventional functionality and wild technical innovation. In time, it would become a flagship for Ulysse Nardin, and a new icon for Swiss watchmaking, recognised all over the world and revered by collectors. There’s still nothing quite like the Freak.

Its influence would spread far and wide. Seeing the advanced properties of silicon platformed by the Freak, countless others would explore its potential so that almost a quarter of a century later, it has become a familiar watchmaking material. But the Freak was first.

Meanwhile, Ulysse Nardin continued to pioneer the use of silicon, and the Freak design. Today, the Freak catalogue is ripe with challenging expressions of the original concept, each new model release acting as a punctuation mark in the story of mechanical watchmaking. Such has been its impact that The New York Times pronounced that the Freak had “changed the face of contemporary watchmaking”.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Freak One leads the contemporary line, winning the prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève’s Iconic Watch Prize in 2023👆. The Freak S continues to inspire awe and wonder with a threedimensional movement that rests under the glass like a spaceship preparing for intergalactic adventures. And the Freak X, with the gently ironic addition of a crown, has become the so-called “daily Freak”.

But no matter how much time passes and no matter what form it takes, the Freak remains a radical. An iconoclast. The watch that changed watchmaking forever.
