The new Openworked Dual Time Terracotta is inspired by the idea of travelling to the most evocative places on the planet, where the horizon is dominated by unspoilt landscapes and rare lands.

France, where the rays of the setting sun turn the picturesque terracotta-paved villages and the beaten paths through the ochre quarries of

The uniqueness of the Piccadilly case
Crafted from grade 5 titanium, the Piccadilly case of the new Openworked Dual Time Terracotta is extremely light and comfortable.

Its modern design has become an icon for
Speake Marin: its round shape is defined by a domed bezel that extends beyond the flat, horizontally brushed middle case and is also recessed in relation to the case back.

The crown, flared and grooved for easy gripping, is adorned with the logo, while the geometric lugs reveal the screws securing the rubber strap, which is fastened by a pin buckle.

Water-resistant to 3 atmospheres,
Piccadilly’s case is protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal on the dial and case back, through which the exceptional mechanism can be admired.
The sophistication of the 3D dial
The display of the new Openworked Dual Time Terracotta is based on a complex architecture. It is built on several levels and is characterised by the utmost care for all its surfaces.

The openworked main dial and the small seconds counter are decorated with a frosted hand finish that allows special lighting effects, and are given a terracotta colour with a hint of orange thanks to a positive PVD coating.

The dial is surmounted by the large three-dimensional bridges of the barrel and oscillating weight : unlike the previous edition, they are rhodium-plated while retaining the traditional micro-blasted finish and mirror-polished bevels.

On the upper level, the home time display is two-tone to emphasise the day/night function. The upper half is blackened with a décalque, while the Arabic numerals are highlighted with matt grey Super-LumiNova, which emits an orange glow in low-light conditions.

The same applies to the lower half and the second time zone hand, while the entire disc is finished with cerclage.

The minute flange and the semi-arc with the retrograde date display are accentuated by a black PVD treatment: the former has a circular finish with grey lacquer indices and the 5-minute markers filled with grey Super-LumiNova that emits a blue light in the dark; the latter, micro-blasted and angled, bears the numerals transferred in matt grey lacquer.

Light grey Super-LumiNova, which glows blue, is also applied to the central hour and minute hands. As always, their shape evokes the
Big Bang, honouring the brand’s
British origins.
The Manufacture movement
The new Openworked Dual Time Terracotta is equipped with the calibre SMA02: a self-winding mechanical movement with second time-zone and retrograde date functions, designed and manufactured in-house by Le Cercle des Horologers in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Featuring a micro-rotor perfectly integrated within the components, it beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and has a single barrel ensuring a 52-hour power reserve.

The movement, comprising
273 parts, features an exceptional level of decoration: on the case-back side, the components are entirely rhodium-plated in black; the large bridges are decorated with 1.5 mm Geneva stripes and angles; the balance-wheel bridge is rhodium-plated and micro-blasted with polished bevelled profiles.

Against this dark background, the terracotta-orange positive PVD treatment of the micro-rotor’s signature topping tool and the engravings that personalise the calibre itself stand out.

All the steel components are polished, the gear wheels are decorated with cerclage, and the screw heads with the chamfered cut are mirror-polished.

SPEAKE-MARIN “IN-HOUSE” MOVEMENTS STRATEGY
Since
2015, Speake-Marin has initiated a movement strategy to fully develop
and assemble proprietary movements within its atelier in the Neuchatel
area, Switzerland. This new strategy gave birth to the “SMA” collection,
which includes Openworked, closed dials and Haute Horlogerie movements.
Firstly, Speake-Marin focused its efforts on Haute Horlogerie 3 Hz
movements (Minute Repeater and Double Tourbillon). Then, Speake-Marin
developed Hour Minutes Seconds 4Hz movements, which were featured in the
new One&Two design as an Openworked movement named SMA01. This
movement is particular due to the small seconds counter being positioned
at 1:30 and its integrated micro-rotor. The new SMA02 Calibre is part
of the SMA movement family and follows the Openworked collection
approach with the small seconds at 1:30. The small seconds at 1:30 meets
the Speake-Marin objective to break-away from the watchmaking codes:
Speake-Marin is the only watchmaker who positions the small seconds
there. It is actually a real constraint in terms of movement development
since the small seconds at 1:30 have to go through the time setting
module.
