legacy of bold exploration in a collaboration with JAMSTEC.

Seiko’s journey in diver’s watchmaking began in 1965 with Japan’s first diver’s watch, which accompanied members of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition to the South Pole from 1966 to 1969.

His model was followed by the creation of the nation’s first 300m water-resistant diver’s watch in 1968. In the decades since, Seiko has developed new technologies, designs, and features that have made its diver’s watches a trusted favorite among professionals and enthusiasts worldwide.

The company’s legacy of testing the limits of the modern sports watch and supporting marine conservation continues through its partnership with the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), which began in the 1980s

In 1983, two professional diver’s watches rated to 600 meters were successfully tested aboard SHINKAI 2000, a manned research submersible operated by JAMSTEC.

For decades, JAMSTEC has been engaged in marine research to advance science and technology and promote academic progress through various initiatives. One such effort is the Arctic Research Program

As part of this, Japan’s first research vessel with ice breaking capabilities, Mirai II (the word mirai means “future” in Japanese), will be completed this year, enabling data collection in ice-covered seas.

Inspired by the spirit of bold exploration that connects JAMSTEC and Seiko, two new diver’s watches join Prospex’s flagship Marinemaster series. The first is a JAMSTEC collaboration, and the second is a continuous production model.

Both are powered by Seiko’s self-winding Caliber 8L45 mechanical movement and represent the pinnacle of the Seiko 300m water-resistant diver’s watch.

Honoring a spirit of exploration and forging new paths

The collaboration model showcases a new textured dial that imagines the trail forged by an icebreaker as it advances through sea ice, symbolizing how Arctic research paves the way for the future.

Its vertically oriented blue gradient, which deepens at the center, is finished with a thick, clear coating and then polished, echoing the boundless, crystalline depth of the Arctic Ocean

The blue ceramic bezel enhances the beauty of the dial while providing exceptional scratch resistance.

The ultimate expression of a classic Seiko diver’s watch

As the first continuous production Prospex watch powered by the 8L45 movement, the new black-dialed creation embodies the classic 1968 diver’s design, ensuring exceptional legibility underwater.

The dial’s deep black hue and fine-grain texture minimize light reflection from the dial while the beveled edges of the indexes catch light from any angle, delivering high visibility.

An evolution of the Marinemaster

Both creations feature an updated clasp that offers easy adjustments of up to 16mm in 2mm increments by sliding the button inside. Even when the clasp is closed, the extension can be retracted, ensuring comfortable and effortless operation.

While its exterior traces the familiar contours of the 1968 diver’s watch—including its flowing silhouette and a screw-down crown at 4 o'clock—the Caliber 8L45 that powers the watches represents the summit of Seiko’s mechanical watch movements. The mainspring and hairspring are made of Spron, Seiko’s proprietary alloy.

The movement offers 72 hours of power reserve thanks to a mainspring that is long and thin, and operates within a tolerance of +10 to -5 seconds per day. To ensure the watch's durability, the crown is not screwed directly into the case but locked into a separate component that is built into the case, allowing it to be more easily replaced.

The two creations will be available at the Seiko Boutiques and select retail stores worldwide from July 2026, with the JAMSTEC collaboration model offered as a limited edition of 1,000

Based on the ever-popular SKX series, the design reinterprets Seiko archive models using collage techniques. The result is a one-of-a-kind limited edition that fuses nostalgia with a futuristic spirit, offering a playful and imaginative take on retro-futurism.

Featuring a blue skeleton dial, this model incorporates the indexes and hands once used in the 1980s SKX series. The ocean-inspired translucent dial embodies George Bamford’s vision of duality—of what is seen and unseen, of the present and the timeless—capturing two worlds in one design.

The bezel insert recreates a classic Seiko archive design using a lustrous material that blends a sense of nostalgia with a futuristic feel. The “BAMFORD” logo is subtly placed at the 6 o’clock position on the dial and on the clasp of the nylon strap, adding a discreet signature touch.

The indexes and hands are coated with Lumibrite. By incorporating fluorescent accents throughout the design—including the bezel, hands, and nylon strap—the watch reveals a different expression under black light.

CREDOR – Goldfeather Tourbillon Platinum Edition

CREDORGoldfeather Tourbillon "The Birds soaring into the Sky" Lacquer Techniques Urushi by Isshu Tamura Platinum Edition - 2025

Credor soars with the masterful expression of diverse urushi
    lacquer techniques in a
    new Goldfeather tourbillon.

Since its birth in 1974, Credor has embodied sophisticated craftsmanship and refined elegance. Derived from the French crête d’or, or “crest of gold,” the Credor name has long stood for the highest echelon of watchmaking artistry. The Goldfeather, first launched in 1960, was reborn in 2023 as the Credor Goldfeather, a modern dress watch that strives to embody the qualities of a feather: thin, light, smooth, elegant, and graceful.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Today, the Credor Goldfeather reaches new heights of beauty and performance through a rich combination of urushi lacquer and, for the first time in a Goldfeather watch, a tourbillon.

A harmony of urushi lacquer techniques

The dial captures the image of birds soaring into the sky, their ascent tracing a trajectory from the tourbillon carriage at the nine o’clock position to the Credor logo at 12 o’clock. The birds are brought to life through two techniques that are part of Japanese urushi craftsmanship: raden, in which mother-of-pearl in varying colors is delicately inlaid on the lacquered dial, creating a beautiful shimmer against the dark urushi backdrop; and kirikane, a decorative art that involves cutting gold plate into fine lines or shapes and applying it to surfaces. In creating the dial, urushi artisan Isshu Tamura carefully applies each portion of mother-of-pearl and gold plate, which differ in thickness, making controlled layering essential to achieving harmony between the two.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

He then shaves down the surface with extraordinary precision to create an even finish and bring out the ideal color. This meticulous craftsmanship produces a smooth surface and a depth within the thin lacquer layer, creating a gradation of color that arcs across the soft curve of the dial and evokes the boundless beauty of the sky. The gold flecks encircling the tourbillon carriage are crafted in maki-e, a technique in which gold powder is sprinkled onto the lacquer, with the tourbillon’s motion symbolizing the radiant energy of the sun. The tourbillon bridge assumes the shape of a bird in flight with outstretched wings.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The new Caliber 6850 movement, visible through the sapphire crystal case back, features a dynamic design inspired by the primary feathers that generate lift as a bird ascends into the sky. The motif is expressed through a combination of bold and delicate engraving, as well as raden and maki-e, with the design radiating outward from the tourbillon carriage, echoing the story on the dial.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Requiring no screws, the newly developed case achieves a seamless form.

Hand-applied by a dedicated team of engravers, the grooves are carved with tools of different shapes to give each feather a depth of its own, creating a three-dimensional landscape within just 0.15mm. The tempered blue screws and the greenish-blue hue of the outer feather made with raden and maki-e enhance the overall harmony and striking presence of the design. The raden used in this feather is made of yakougai, the shell of the green turban snail.

A new tourbillon movement meets a new Goldfeather case

This timepiece houses the new tourbillon Caliber 6850, the successor to Caliber 6830, which was introduced in 2016. Maintaining the same compact dimensions as Caliber 6830 (25.6mm in diameter and 3.98mm in thickness), the new movement features an enlarged mainspring barrel that extends the power reserve to 60 hours.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The movement is assembled by master watchmaker Katsuo Saito, who in 2023 received the Medal with Yellow Ribbon, an honor bestowed by the Japanese government upon individuals who have become public role models through their diligence and perseverance in their professions. The movement’s thinness, combined with the extremely small components within the tourbillon carriage, demands exceptional skill at every stage of assembly, adjustment, and mounting. The adjustment of parts such as the spring and pallet fork requires a precision of one-hundredth of a millimeter. Adjusting the space between parts also requires a high level of precision.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Credor logo, name, and Goldfeather letters are rendered in raised maki-e.

While housing a tourbillon movement and featuring Goldfeather’s signature curved form, this creation maintains its slim profile of 8.6mm thanks to a newly developed case. With the mid-case, lugs, and the part of the back that is not sapphire crystal all formed as one part, the design offers a streamlined silhouette. The case is made of Platinum 950, a material that is difficult to polish. Sparing no effort, the case is hand-polished and finished by skilled artisans to ensure smooth surfaces and comfort on the wrist, as well as uncompromising beauty.

This new Goldfeather will be available as a limited edition of 10 starting in October 2025.

    Urushi Lacquer Artisan
    Isshu Tamura

After mastering the traditional Kaga maki-e technique, which originated in the Kaga Domain (now Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture), Tamura set out to produce his own works of art characterized by unparalleled and intricate beauty.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

His exquisite artistry, achieved through exceptionally detailed craftsmanship, has earned high acclaim around the world.

    Watchmaker
    Katsuo Saito

Katsuo Saito has been involved in the assembly, adjustment, and repair of high-end mechanical watches since 2002. In 2017, Saito was awarded the title of Contemporary Master Craftsman (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare), and in 2023, he received the Medal with Yellow Ribbon.
