PAM01653 is crafted from premium AISI 316LVM - 1.4441 stainless steel, known for its strength and corrosion resistance. It is vacuum arc remelted to maximize purity and therefore it improves the resistance to corrosion. This high-quality alloy consists of iron with a chromium content of 17.0-19.0%, 13.0-15.0% of nickel, and 2.5-3.2% molybdenum for the main alloying elements. This variant is interesting as it is remelted, providing the alloy a high level of cleanliness and a high microstructure homogeneity; thus, resulting in a superior polished finish and enhanced corrosion resistance. Polished and brushed finishes emphasise further the timepieces’ design as well as Panerai’s longstanding watchmaking expertise.

This material is much lighter than steel, known for its strength, comparable with that of steel but with 44% less weight, making the watch more comfortable on the wrist and thus an ideal choice for those who prioritize both resilience and comfort. Powered by the P.9100 caliber, Panerai’s first automatic movement with chronograph functions, it is designed to meet Panerai’s stringent mechanical standards. It incorporates the flyback chronograph function, with tachymeter scale for nautical use. This key feature allows the chronograph hands to reset to zero and restart instantly with a single press. This eliminates the need for the traditional three-step process of stopping, resetting and restarting. The push-button operates the flyback function at 8 o’clock, which also resets the hands to zero when the chronograph is stopped. The pusher is marked by R for reset and F for flyback with red lacquered details to add a dynamic flair.

The caliber is also characterized by a vertical clutch and column wheel mechanism, with chronograph minutes displayed by a central hand that jumps forward every 60 seconds. Equipped with two patented mechanisms, the movement boasts a 72-hour power reserve, achieved through twin spring barrels in series. These longer, thinner springs ensure a more consistent and extended energy supply. The caliber is visible through a sapphire crystal open case back. Boasting a grey matt-tone sandwich dial, PAM01654 embodies the bold and technical ethos of Luna Rossa team and is accented with striking red details and the team decal. The sub-dials are thoughtfully positioned for symmetric balance and readability, while the red chronograph hands add a dynamic touch. A traversing balance bridge that securely positions the oscillator enhances the movement’s stability and precision. Additionally, the P.6000 includes a stop-second function, which halts the balance wheel and seconds hand when the winding crown is pulled out, allowing for precise time adjustments.

Boasting a 44mm black ceramic case, this new timepiece anchors Panerai’s ongoing exploration of high-performance materials. Celebrated for its strong resistance to high temperatures, scratches, and corrosion combined with a lightweight nature that ensures a remarkable wearability, ceramic has become a cornerstone of Panerai’s high-tech material portfolio, introduced for the first time in 2007 with the Radiomir Black Seal Ceramica PAM00292.

But it is in the creation of Panerai cases that the Maison truly demonstrates its expertise, transforming ceramic into intricate and highly functional tool watches and resulting in a timepiece that captures the Maison’s sporting yet sophisticated essence.

The process begins with a zirconium oxide-based ceramic powder (ZrO2), a high-tech material known for its strength and stability. Depending on the color, several grades can be used. The zirconium oxide powder is mixed with a binder and then processed (molding or injection), creating an initial rough shape of the watch part. After this first processing step, the material is called “green-part”, not fully dense and suitable for rough machining.

The semi-formed case is subjected to a sintering process in high-temperature ovens. This process densifies the ceramic, transforming the initial ceramic compound into a dense and robust material capable of withstanding wear and tear. The ceramic part undergoes a shrinkage of approximately 20% during sintering, requiring precise calculations to ensure the final dimensions are accurate.

Once hardened, the ceramic is shaped and refined using diamond-tools wheels and tooling. This step involves smoothing surfaces, defining intricate details, and achieving the distinctive curves of the Luminor case. The complexity of Panerai’s case design, with its multiple rounded surfaces and components like the crown guard and bridge, demands an unparalleled level of technicity and engineering expertise.

Extensive research and development have been conducted to reinforce the case’s most exposed and delicate parts, including the lugs. These refinements ensure that the lugs, which experience the most stress during everyday wear, meet Panerai stringent standards for shock resistance.

On this new release, the Luminor GMT Power Reserve Ceramica PAM01574 features a 44mm black ceramic case with a mix of polished and sandblasted finishes, complemented by a smoked sapphire crystal case back and a titanium base. Water-resistant up to 30 BAR (~300 meters), this watch has been rigorously tested, subjecting it to a pressure 25% greater than the guaranteed water resistance value to ensure it meets Panerai’s stringent standards.

The new timepiece is powered by the P.9012 caliber, an automatic movement offering a comprehensive suite of functions. The GMT complication ensures easy tracking of a second-time zone, making this timepiece an ideal companion for global travellers. With a power reserve of three days, the watch’s energy is stored in two spring barrels, wound by an oscillating weight that operates in both directions. For precise time setting, the balance wheel stops when the crown is pulled out and at the same time the small seconds hand resets to 0 thanks to the reset seconds function. The quick time-setting function allows the hour hand and date to be adjusted forward and backward effortlessly, making it practical for everyday use. With 231 components and 31 jewels, the caliber measures 13¾ lignes in diameter and a mere 6mm in thickness, visible through the smoked sapphire crystal case back. The balance, secured by a bridge with twin supports, oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), ensuring precise and reliable timekeeping.

The sandwich-style dial of PAM01574 stays true to Panerai’s functional design: features like the crown-protecting device with lever, sandwich dial and luminosity, originally designed for professional purposes, have now become integral to the Luminor design. Boasting a blue sun-brushed sandwich dial, the timepiece features a power reserve indicator at the 5 o’clock position – with ‘ORE’ (Italian for “hours”) elegantly inscribed on the dial as a nod to Panerai’s Italian flair – providing a clear and practical way to monitor the remaining energy, a vital feature for everyday wear. The dedicated 12-hour GMT hand, bevelled date window at 3 o’clock as well as minuterie track along the edge of the dial allow for further utility and precise reading of the minutes. Access to this Experience is available by purchasing the new Radiomir 8 Giorni Eilean Experience Edition PAM01643. Limited to just 30 pieces, the timepiece is crafted from recovered bronze from Eilean itself. During the yacht’s extensive restoration, parts of its original structure were salvaged, including sections of bronze fittings, which were then incorporated into the watch. The original Eilean bronze underwent a long and meticulous process of successive castings to clean it, and then it was carefully blended with new bronze to create the bezel, crown and medallion on the case back of this limited edition timepiece.

The Panerai Bronzo is composed of copper with 8% tin, making it versatile with high structural strength. The steel case, measuring 45mm, complements the bronze elements with a rugged, burnished finish called Brunito. Through an intricate process, the steel undergoes a PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) treatment followed by hand-brushing to enhance the vintage appeal, lending the watch a distinct appearance, making every Radiomir 8 Giorni Eilean Experience Edition an individual expression of its owner’s adventures.

Beneath the surface lies Panerai’s P.5000 hand-wound calibre, offering an impressive 8-day power reserve—an homage to Panerai’s longstanding tradition of creating functional, long-lasting instruments. The movement features a robust design with most components enclosed between two plates, leaving only the balance cock and intermediate wheel visible.

The hand-wound P.5000 calibre, a movement entirely developed and produced in the Manufacture in Neuchâtel with a long power reserve of eight days, inspired some of the historic watches created by Panerai for the frogmen of Italian Navy.

It is 15¾ lignes in diameter and 4.5mm thick, very solidly constructed and fitted with a large brush-finished plate with diamond polished chamfering; this almost completely conceals the wheel work, while revealing the balance which oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. The long power reserve is achieved by two spring barrels connected in series

The large 10 mm balance wheel uses a variable inertia design with four external adjusting screws, allowing precise regulation without disassembly. Supported by a traversing bridge, this setup enhances chronometric performance and provides extra stability to maintain accuracy during shocks.

PAM01643’s aesthetics perfectly reflect Panerai’s nautical heritage, merging functionality with timeless elegance. The dial, a grainy beige, recalls the sails of Eilean, evoking the feeling of wind on the open sea. The luminescent numerals and markers, characteristic of the Radiomir, are highlighted in soft tones, adding a warm, vintage touch to the face. The dark brown leather strap is hot-stamped with 1936, commemorating the yacht’s launch.

On the back of the case, a bronze medallion is intricately engraved with the word Eilean and the year of her maiden voyage, further cementing the connection between the watch and the storied vessel.
