 The icon that dares!

The Commander 1959 is iconic enough to embrace the most daring of ideas. MIDO has reinvented its face in an explosion of coloured "pixels", symbols of high-definition precision, and of a resolutely innovative vision. Pink, blue and, of course, luminescent, this vibrant interplay of squares gives the Commander 1959's unique dial a surprising twist. A playful aesthetic that combines perfectly with the charming retro codes and exceptional automatic Caliber 80 of this irresistible model.

The geometry of pixels truly symbolises the digital revolution. Fun and daring, the Pixel Art style is the quirky embodiment of this universe. This time, its playfulness lightss up the dial of a cult watch with a powerful identity: the Commander 1959. A myriad of squares in shades of blue and pink pop against the black background of the dial. At night, there is a surprise in store thanks to MIDO's signature phosphorescence. The coloured Super-LumiNova® comes alive to create a whole new face.

The roundness of the case and its wide opening onto the dial guarantees the perfect readability that is the collection's signature. This model is inspired by the original Commander, which the brand has been producing continuously since 1959. Retro elements such as the Milanese mesh bracelet and acrylic crystal create a striking contrast with the contemporary dial.

The fully polished monocoque case – the pinnacle of water-resistance at the time – has a versatile diameter of 37 mm, topped by a minimalist bezel. Its mechanical heart beats to the rhythm of MIDO's watchmaking expertise, thanks to the ultra-reliable and innovative Caliber 80, fitted with a non-magnetic Nivachron™ balance spring. A new version of the legend is born: a joyful fusion of past and future, and proof of its ability to transcend time.

"Pixellated" for the better!

The face of the timeless Commander 1959 has been transformed into a 21st century phenomenon. The meticulous arrangement of pixels printed on the dial's black background creates a geometric cloud. Even in the dark, the watch reveals its playful, luminous pink and blue face. The display remains clearly readable, enhanced by the brilliance of the diamond-cut hands and polished indexes. Natural colour Super-LumiNova® on the hour and minute hands and on the 12 dots around the polished flange ensures optimum readability, even at night.

The monocoque case of this watch, in fully polished stainless steel, evokes the softness of a pebble. It is topped by a slim, streamlined bezel. The lines extend to the iconic Milanese mesh bracelet, which is extremely comfortable and supple. The acrylic crystal hot-stamped with the MIDO logo is another retro touch which adds vibrant reflections to this special edition.

Driven by watchmaking expertise

At the heart of the Commander 1959 lies the exceptional Caliber 80. Concealed by the case, its oscillating weight is finely decorated with Côtes de Genève and the engraved MIDO logo.

This component oscillates to the rhythm of the wrist's movements, "automatically" replenishing the caliber's energy. Its high level of reliability is ensured by a power reserve of up to 80 hours, and by the Nivachron™ balance spring. This high-tech alloy offers remarkable resistance to magnetism, temperature variations, and shocks. Presented in an exclusive box, this attractive, elegant 1959 Commander is the perfect piece for lovers of exceptional watches.

 Dive into the legend!

After four successful versions, the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 from MIDO is back, paying homage once again to its original 1961 model, the Ocean Star Skin Diver Watch. In a glossy black case contrasting with the bright hues of its legendary multicoloured decompression scale, this limited edition of 1961 pieces perfectly combines intensity and irresistible vintage allure. Attention connoisseurs!

In 2020, MIDO made history. The brand, a pioneer in water resistance since the 1930s, reissued the famous Ocean Star Skin Diver Watch from 1961. This watch, extremely popular with divers at the time, made it easy to read decompression stops, thanks to a multicoloured table that quickly became legendary.

The 1961 Ocean Star Decompression Timer has been reinterpreted using top-quality materials and cutting-edge technologies, and has remained faithful to its unique original aesthetic, being successfully renewed over several editions in 2020, 2021 and 2023.

1961 Ocean Star Skin Diver Powerwind 1000 “Rainbow” ref. 5907

This year, MIDO is unveiling a new, highly exclusive limited series of the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 with an intense black PVD-treated polished steel case.

This sporty model continues to assert its strong historical codes linked to the underwater world: multicoloured table, unidirectional rotating bezel, "glassbox" style sapphire crystal reminiscent of the old Plexiglas, and a size of 40.5 mm – a modest diameter, just like in the old days.

The Caliber 80, an exceptionally reliable mechanism, can count on an enviable power reserve of up to 80 hours and a high-tech Nivachron™ balance spring. The back is engraved with the symbol of the Ocean Star collection, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary: the starfish, a reminder of MIDO's expertise in water resistance.

Three interchangeable bracelets – shiny black Milanese mesh steel, leather, and rubber – each add a different touch to the model. The cutting-edge performance and vintage appeal echo the spirit of the exhilarating dives of the sixties.

Black and colour

Inspirational and multicoloured, the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 will brighten up any wrist with its seductive allure. On the black background of the dial, MIDO deploys the vivid shades of the decompression scale on the original model – a nod intended not to replace modern diving instruments, but to perpetuate the captivating aesthetics of yesteryear.

Yellow, green, pink and blue, a table with coloured circles indicates the recommended stops. The characteristic unidirectional rotating bezel with aluminium ring counts down the elapsed time, thanks to a generous luminescent dot that serves as a marker. On a watch like this, legibility is crucial, whether in the sunshine or in the depths.

Super-LumiNova® is used for the diamond-cut and faceted hour and minute hands and the polished indexes. A detail exuding powerful historical charm, the vintage MIDO logo is a polished applique on the black dial, and engraved on the back, crown and bracelet clasps. A “glassbox” style crystal offers effective protection for the dial and reinforces the vintage look of the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961.

For added sparkle and character, MIDO has completely polished the case of the Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961, which is crafted from solid stainless steel. A black PVD treatment gives it an intense shine.

The screw-down crown and screw-on case back – a signature of the Ocean Star collection –  further enhance the watch's resilience, ensuring remarkable water resistance of up to 200 metres.

MIDO is celebrating the 80th anniversary of Ocean Star, its distinctive sports collection. A master in the art of reinvention, the Swiss watch brand is starting the festivities by releasing an irresistible special edition with a highly practical GMT function, and a host of vintage touches.

Naturally, it sports nautical colours, but with contrasting silver-coloured details such as the brand-new indexes shaped like... shark teeth! The timepiece comes with an interchangeable bracelet and strap for a sporty, urban and chic look, whatever the time zone.

The unwavering reliability of the Ocean Star has made it a constant companion during the toughest marine challenges since its creation in 1944. Even in those days, MIDO was a pioneer in water-resistance, inventing the Aquadura system which first appeared in the 1930s

To mark the 80th anniversary of this exceptional collection, the brand is reviving the spirit of the models of yesteryear with an Ocean Star watch equipped with the GMT function.

Its distinctive features include a unique navy blue and silver-coloured dial, enhanced with brand-new "shark teeth" indexes. Its incredible vintage charm includes several nods to the classics: its sapphire crystal (also known as "glassbox"), its 40.5 mm diameter (reminiscent of the modest dimensions of the era) and a multi-link bracelet in satin-finished and polished stainless steel.

MIDO has enhanced this retro yet contemporary look with cutting-edge materials: stainless steel, Super-LumiNova®, and an aluminium ring on the bidirectional rotating bezel. Thanks to this superb choice, the watch offers water-resistance up to 200 m (20 bars/660 ft), which is denoted, as ever, by the starfish symbol engraved on the back of the watch.

Combined with an anti-magnetic Nivachron™ balance spring, its automatic movement – the Caliber 80 – with a power reserve of up to 80 hours, delivers superior mechanical performance. Perfect for navigating the oceans.

The time at home... and wherever you roam!

With perfect legibility, the Ocean Star GMT displays two time zones for those who like to travel across land and sea. The model's diamond-cut hands indicate the hours and minutes, while the red varnished hand points to the second time zone on the flange.

White Super-LumiNova® on each of the hands and the indexes serves to guide intrepid explorers, even in the dark. The navy blue dial on the Ocean Star GMT matches the blue of the aluminium ring on the polished, fluted bezel. Silver accents add sparkle to this nautical face: on the flange, on the bezel markings, and also around the even-numbered hour indexes, whose unusual shape is reminiscent of a shark's teeth.

Finally, its highly practical design also features the date in a window at 3 o'clock. This adventurer of the high seas is protected by a domed sapphire crystal of a similar volume to the Plexiglas crystal on the era's classic pieces.

The case of the Ocean Star GMT is made from solid stainless steel, and its satin-finished and polished surfaces create subtle contrasts. Presented in an exclusive case, this MIDO special edition comes with an easily interchangeable multi-link satin-finished and polished stainless steel bracelet and a NATO-style navy blue strap with a grey centre line.

A resistant and reliable instrument

Globetrotters who need to be able to rely on their watch at all times will find everything they need on the Ocean Star GMT. Its screw-down crown and back make it even more resistant to the elements.

Its automatic mechanical movement – the Caliber 80 – provides ultra-reliable precision timekeeping thanks to its high-tech anti-magnetic Nivachron™ balance spring and its exceptional power reserve of up to 80 hours. MIDO has engraved the back of this special edition with a starfish: the emblem of this collection, now in its 80th year.

No swimming ban for this strong tempered special edition! The Ocean Star GMT is celebrating the 80th anniversary of a collection with an extraordinary history and exceptional performance.
