Since 2018, the Montblanc Geosphere has honored intrepid explorers, especially those who particularly enjoy venturing to high altitudes. This spirit is embodied in the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Mount Elbrus Limited Edition, a watch that celebrates the highest mountain on the European continent. This edition is limited to 829 pieces, a tribute to the year 1829, which marks the first ascent of the higher of the two peaks of Mount Elbrus..

The Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Mount Elbrus Limited Edition 829 is housed in a 43.5 mm titanium case, with a middle case made of a patented composite material combining volcanic ash, basalt-aluminum fibers, CaCO3 (calcium carbonate), and a bio-based resin containing 30% plant matter. The case of this watch also features Montblanc’s Oxygen technology, designed for high-altitude exploration and the significant temperature variations typical of these environments.

Another distinctive feature of this watch is its color, inspired by the landscapes around Mount Elbrus. The dial is adorned with a white and brown sfumato effect on a glacier-patterned base, enhanced by touches of white on the hands, hour markers, and bezel markers, which glow orange in low light. The two spheres displaying the continents and the 24-hour hand at 9 o’clock feature blue luminescence, allowing for easy and visually appealing differentiation between local time and the reference country's time.

The bezel, with its light gray anodized aluminum insert, is decorated with luminescent cardinal points. The monochrome-look case is complemented by two interchangeable rubber straps, one ivory and the other light brown.

The movement is powered by Montblanc’s self-winding caliber MB 29.25, with a 42-hour power reserve, an original dual-hemisphere world time function, a full dual time zone complication, and a date complication. Notably, the two hour hands, located on the main dial and the subdial at 9 o’clock respectively, can be set independently in one-hour increments, which proves very practical when crossing multiple time zones.

Despite its modern materials and finishes, as well as its complex movement, the style of the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Mount Elbrouz Limited Edition 829 retains the 1930s-inspired look that characterizes all Geosphere models. The long cathedral hands, the notched bezel, and the classic case proportions all evoke Montblanc’s long tradition of accompanying explorers on their journeys.

Since its launch, Montblanc’s 1858 Geosphere line has continued to celebrate the exploration of uncharted and challenging natural environments, including the Seven Summits, which encompass the highest mountains on all seven continents.  These include Mount Everest in Asia, Aconcagua in South America, Denali in North America, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, Puncak Jaya in Australia, Mount Vinson in Antarctica, and Mount Elbrus in Europe.

The Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Mount Elbrus is dedicated to the second of the Seven Summits celebrated by Montblanc, following the launch of the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Mount Vinson in🔗 2025.👇

The laser-generated oxidation process allows for a near-photographic representation of Mount Elbrus on the case back, where its distinctive two peaks are clearly visible.

The case middle (on the other side of the crown) features a second illustration of Mount Elbrus's two peaks. Combined with the inherent patterns of this composite material, it creates an aesthetic reminiscent of ice, snow, and volcanic ash. The silhouette of Mount Elbrus is engraved onto the material, and then a white luminescent coating (which emits an orange glow in the dark) is applied by hand.

The world time complication at the heart of the 1858 Geosphere features two rotating hemispheres. The upper hemisphere represents the Northern Hemisphere as seen from the North Pole, and the lower hemisphere its exact opposite as seen from the South Pole. These two globes rotate in opposite directions: the Northern Hemisphere rotates counterclockwise and the Southern Hemisphere clockwise to replicate the Earth's rotation. Each globe is surrounded by a 24-hour (AM/PM) indicator, allowing you to see the time at a glance anywhere in the world.

The continents are represented in three dimensions (like a topographic map) and coated with a luminescent material that provides a luminous reference point in the dark. A closer look at the luminescent continents reveals eight black dots indicating the location of the highest peak on each continent, as well as Mont Blanc on the border between Italy and France. The Greenwich Meridian is indicated by a simple line, helping the wearer quickly orient the globes.

The world time complication facilitates travel between multiple time zones thanks to the fully integrated dual time zone feature. The second time zone appears in a subdial at 9 o'clock and can be adjusted independently using the pusher located at 10 o'clock on the side of the middle case. Most users use this subdial to indicate the time in their home country (or the time zone that best suits their needs). The main hour hand can be advanced using the crown, allowing for quick adjustments when crossing time zones.

The date displayed at 3 o'clock is synchronized with the time shown on the main dial. This convenient feature makes it easy to keep track of the time while traveling. Keeping track of the date is especially useful when crossing the International Date Line.

The Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Mount Elbrouz Limited Edition features Montblanc’s 0 Oxygen technology, which completely eliminates oxygen from inside the case. Technically, this helps reduce potentially adverse effects such as condensation, which can occur when the watch is worn in conditions with frequent extreme temperature variations.

To ensure that all owners of previous 1858 Geosphere models can benefit from Montblanc’s 0 Oxygen technology, our Maison now offers a dedicated upgrade service in all Montblanc boutiques.

Another element pays homage to mountaineering: the embossed rope motif found on the two rubber straps supplied with the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Mount Elbrouz Limited Edition 829, one ivory and the other light brown. The inside of the strap is adorned with embossed mountain range motifs, an aesthetic and practical feature that enhances breathability.

The quick-change mechanism allows for easy strap replacement without tools or spring bars, highlighting the inherent ease of use of the 1858 Geosphere watches, especially when traveling.

MONTBLANC –1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Mount Vinson Edition

MONTBLANC1858 GÉOSPHÈRE 0 Oxygen Mount Vinson Edition 2025

Discover the Maison's extraordinary 2025 novelties. Drawing inspiration from dramatic arctic landscapes, the expertly-crafted Iced Sea Automatic Date operates with an automatic movement and unidirectional rotating bezel, encased in a stainless steel surround, redesigned this year in a new 38mm diameter.

Icons from the 1858 collection are also refreshed with cutting-edge design details and sophisticated movements – ready to accompany your next adventure.

Antarctica, a lack of oxygen and a legendary mountaineer

Montblanc is able to combine all of this in the Zero Oxygen watches, gaining their name from the fact that they manage without any oxygen inside. This not only prevents the watch from fogging up when exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations at high altitudes, but also prevents the metal from oxidising. This significantly extends the service life of all components. Montblanc certifies the absence of any oxygen in the case by means of an accompanying certificate.

However, this technology not only has practical and quality-enhancing benefits. It also serves authentic storytelling at its best. No oxygen, the highest peaks in the world – mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner can’t be far away.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

He is considered to be the first person to have climbed all 14 of the world’s eight-thousanders and to have done so without the aid of oxygen. But that’s not all. The South Tyrolean and Montblanc brand ambassador also climbed the so-called Seven Summits, the highest mountains on the continents of Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia. In 1986, he completed his ascent of Mount Vinson, 1,000 kilometres north of the South Pole in the so-called eternal ice. To date, only around 500 people have mastered these seven challenges. The latest addition to the 1858 Geosphere collection, which has always been inspired by the world of mountain sports, is dedicated to this impressive achievement.

1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Mount Vinson Limited Edition

The model, which is limited to 986 pieces – a reference to the year Messner conquered Mount Vinson – is equipped with a 43 mm titanium case that is water-resistant to ten bar and an innovative composite material for the middle section. The latter consists of quartz fibres, aluminised basalt fibres, calcium carbonate and light blue resin.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It is reminiscent of the colours and patterns of Antarctic glacier ice and forms the background for the silhouette of Mount Vision on the left side of the case, so that it is only visible to the wearer. During the day it glows light grey, at night it shines in ice blue.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The coolness continues on the dial. Gratté-boisé is the name of the technique used to create the sfumato pattern in an elaborate process comprising more than 20 steps. The result of alternating roughening and polishing resembles a blue-green-light grey glacial landscape. This is encircled by an aluminium bezel, which features a luminous blue Superluminova coating on the four markings for the cardinal points.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

To ensure that this frosty beauty always conveys precision, the 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Mount Vinson Limited Edition was equipped with the MB 29.25 calibre with a 42-hour power reserve. It is based on a Sellita automatic movement and, like all “Geosphere” versions, features the manufacture world time complication from the Minerva manufactory.

Montblanc combines practical functionality with a highly aesthetic display on the dial. Two domed hemispheres – the Northern Hemisphere in the upper half of the dial and the Southern Hemisphere in the lower half – perform a complete rotation within 24 hours – just like the earth itself.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Equipped with a blue-green Greenwich meridian and surrounded by a fixed scale with 24 time zones with day/night display, the different time zones can be read very intuitively with the aid of the minute hand. Even in poor lighting conditions. This is because the luminous coating on the continents provides time orientation. At the 9 o’clock position, there is also a simply designed second time zone display. Opposite it is the date display, which is linked to the local time.

Eight mysterious points

Those with a love for detail will appreciate the small dots on the Earth’s hemispheres. They mark the Seven Summits conquered by Reinhold Messner and, of course, Mont Blanc.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The watchmaker has left no space unused in its visual representation of the beauty of the mountains. A glance at the titanium caseback, for example, reveals Mount Vinson in all its glory. The engraving technique used, which includes laser-generated oxidation, makes it appear three-dimensional like a photograph.

The 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Mount Vinson Limited Edition is securely positioned on the wrist with an interchangeable blue-green rubber strap. This makes it the first watch in the 1858 collection to be fitted with this strap material.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

And even here, Montblanc has transformed mountaineering into design. The outer structure is modelled on a climbing rope. The inside is also designed like the edges of a rock for greater comfort and breathability. Like the other straps of the watches in the 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen line, it has a conical shape, is easily interchangeable and is equipped with a fine adjustment system. The 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Mount Vinson costs €9,200.

MONTBLANC – 1858 GEOSPHERE 0 Oxygen CARBO2 Edition

MONTBLANC1858 GÉOSPHÈRE 0 Oxygen CARBO2 Limited Edition 2024

Montblanc introduces a brand-new limited edition 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen timepiece featuring a CARBO2 middle case

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Montblanc's 1858 Collection timepieces have been designed as tool watches for mountain exploration, taking inspiration from the legendary Minerva pocket watches and chronographs from the 1920’s and 1930’s originally conceived for military use thanks to their precision and robustness. With its latest 1858 Geosphere timepiece showcasing a design as strong as the innovation within, Montblanc pushes the concept of oxygen – the central element in any intrepid ascent – even further than before.

A Middle Case Material Containing CO2

Montblanc’s new watch case material is created using a pioneering process that captures CO2 from biogas production and mineral waste produced by recycling factories, thanks to a process of calcium dissolution and carbonation.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The obtained powder containing CO2 – CACO3 – is then combined with ultra-light and resistant carbon fibre. Together, they create an innovative composite material, the CARBO2, which is shaped into a watch middle case.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In addition to the technological aspect of the case, the resulting CARBO2 material has a graphic aesthetic, with its dark shades depending on the particular mix of carbon fibre and CACO3, lending itself well to the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen. Like the fearless alpinists and adventurers who dedicate their lives to exploring the planet’s mountainous wilderness, this material is also opening up new paths of exploration.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Reinforcing the theme of adventure, the 43.5mm titanium and CARBO2 case comes with an engraved luminous blue outline of the Mont Blanc Mountain on the side that only the timepiece’s wearer can see. The older glaciers are, the less oxygen they contain and the denser they become, resulting in a deeper blue color that has been depicted on the case band – shining white by day and luminous blue by night.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

To achieve such a result, Super-LumiNova® and a layer of protective varnish are applied by hand with particular care. An image of the Mont Blanc mountain also adorns the titanium caseback, created using Montblanc’s 3D laser technique that depicts the color, depth and realism of this natural wonder.

Zero Oxygen

This Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen CARBO2 limited edition joins the Maison’s series of “Zero Oxygen” timepieces that feature several benefits for explorers who need their equipment to work in harsh environments. Zero oxygen inside the case not only eliminates fogging, which can occur with drastic temperature changes at altitude, but also prevents oxidization. Without oxygen, all the components last longer and will provide continued precision over time. Each zero oxygen timepiece comes with a certificate as proof of this special, yet invisible, technology and guarantees that it has been successfully encased without oxygen.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The timepiece is powered by the MB 29.25 automatic movement with Montblanc’s Manufacture worldtime complication, which includes turning Northern and Southern Hemisphere globes with blue Greenwich meridian lines and 14 dots for each of the 8000m peaks. It also displays a Day & Night indication, a 24-hour scale, dual time display, and a date.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The timepiece comes with a bi-directional titanium ceramic fluted bezel with blue luminescent cardinal points and a blue gasket under the sapphire crystal. It is fitted with a black sfumato glacier pattern dial that captures the texture of glacial ice with its interlocking network of crystals that have been frozen in time for millennia. Crafted using a special technique called gratté-boisé, this dial process takes four times longer than standard techniques.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

To pay homage to its namesake mountain on the caseback, Montblanc uses a special technique to create an authentic 3D rendering that provides depth and realism. Made of titanium, the metal must first be structured, which means that the decoration will be engraved by laser, taking into consideration the relief of the original drawing. Next, the desired finish (matte and shiny) is similarly achieved by laser. In the final phase, colors are created with laser-generated oxidation, with the level of oxidation determining the final result.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Completing the timepiece is a black interchangeable rubber strap featuring a taper and a fine adjustment system, with the pattern reminiscent of the textiles used by mountaineers.
