Reliability, technical excellence, and refinement

A diving watch that guarantees, as always with De Bethune, optimal legibility of the time and immersion duration. It is designed to perform under challenging conditions, with reduced visibility, both day and night.

2019 marked a turning point for De Bethune when Denis Flageollet, founder and master watchmaker, introduced a 100% sport model.

The DB28GS Grand Bleu represents the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his horological journey. Both technical and elegant, it is the first diving watch from the independent manufacturer, which, true to its approach, reinterprets and refines the aesthetics and technical features of its models over time.

Today, the DB28GS Swordfish adopts the elegant design and bold character of its predecessors, while offering a new bi-chromatic interpretation—both mysterious and dazzling—that explores the nuances of black surrounding the iconic De Bethune blue.

Exceptional Aesthetic Legibility

The craftsmanship at the Auberson workshops is evident in the quality of the finishes and the materials, including the oxidation of zirconium and Grade 5 titanium, as well as the DLC treatment on the hardened stainless steel. The combination of these materials for the 44mm case, the mobile cradles, and the bridges—brushed, hand-polished, or decorated with the "microlight" technique—offers a depth of black with multiple tonalities, ranging from matte to glossy, subtly highlighted with touches of blue.

The Grade 5 titanium components — polished, mirror-finished, and blued—such as the hands, inserts, crown, bridges, and the micro-spherical indices of the bezel, have been meticulously designed, selected, and assembled to ensure immediate legibility of the time.

Diving Time Measurement

The immersion time is elegantly read on the De Bethune watch, thanks to a bezel that rotates the watch's sapphire crystal in its unidirectional movement.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Unlike traditional dive watches, the DB28 GS Swordfish displays the minute track on the sapphire glass itself, refining the design and enhancing legibility while maintaining a precise display system.

Technical Legibility Optimized by an Ingenious Mechanical Lighting System

In addition to the luminescent-tipped hands, the DB28GS Swordfish is equipped with De Bethune’s manual lighting system, which diffuses white light from the four corners of the dial (3, 6, 9, 12 o’clock) to illuminate the movement from the inside. This entirely mechanical system functions as simply as a bicycle light, without electronics or batteries.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It is activated by a push-button at 6 o’clock, which triggers a small gear driven by the dual barrel. This gear, through a miniature dynamo, provides the energy necessary to light the watch without affecting the movement’s operation. Once again, the manufacture showcases its ability to blend functionality and technical excellence, as the simplicity of this lighting function masks the intricate engineering that only the De Bethune technical team can fully appreciate.

Shock Resistance and Optimal Comfort

The DB28 GS Swordfish continues the tradition of exceptional comfort De Bethune applies to its pieces, especially within the DB28 collection. This remarkable comfort is due to the combination of black zirconium and hardened stainless steel, its hand-brushed and polished finish, and the positioning of the crown at 12 o’clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Additionally, it features the patented mobile cradle system, which adapts to the size and movement of the wrist. It has been enhanced by a DLC coating (Diamond-Like Carbon) that adheres perfectly to the ultra-hardened stainless steel of the cradles, ensuring resistance to shocks (unlike DLC coatings applied to softer materials such as titanium or 316L stainless steel commonly used in watchmaking). The DB28 GS Swordfish cradles stand out with blued Grade 5 titanium inserts, polished to recall the blue components of the case and dial. The natural rubber strap also contributes to the watch’s comfortable wear.

Performance of the DB2080 Movement

The DB28GS Swordfish meets the reliability standards set by De Bethune’s technical department and proudly boasts flawless water resistance to a depth of 105 meters. Its DB2080 movement is equipped with a double barrel self-regulating system that provides a 5-day power reserve, with performance indicated between 9 and 10 o’clock.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The presence of a titanium/grey gold balance wheel, designed to adapt to temperature variations, along with a flat terminal curve hairspring, ensures an optimal mass/inertia ratio for an ideal frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, suited for wristwatches.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The watch undergoes extensive reliability and shock resistance testing, which it passes thanks to a triple shock absorber system that protects the heart of the movement. A titanium bridge, equipped with shock absorbers at both ends (ruby + blade spring) and a central damper, ensures precise position stability of the balance wheel, even during violent impacts.

The DB28GS Swordfish once again illustrates the meticulous research work of Denis Flageollet's teams on functional aesthetics, reliability, and technical performance — key elements at the heart of every De Bethune creation.

A Limited Edition of 10 pieces

Swizz Beatz and De Bethune: A Fusion of Horology and Creativity

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In 2020, American artist, rapper, and music producer Swizz Beatz challenged De Bethune with a visionary concept centered on transparency and light. The DW5, with its unclassifiable design and avant-garde spirit, emerged as the perfect choice for this first limited edition. Featuring a case composed of seven distinct sapphire crystal elements set within a blued titanium exoskeleton, it unveils the intricate details of an exceptional movement. The paradox between minimalist aesthetics and technical mastery embodies De Bethune’s contemporary and boundary-pushing approach to watchmaking.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

For Season 2, the DBD model took center stage, showcasing a refined dial where “Côtes de Genève” and Art Deco-inspired apertures create an elegantly restrained digital display, hiding a complexity known only to the movement. The striking contrast of burgundy and anthracite, paired with a case that merges classical inspiration—crown at 12 o’clock, ogival lugs—with the technological sophistication and lightness of polished zirconium, pays homage to the multifaceted creativity of Swizz Beatz.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Now, for Season 3, Swizz Beatz has selected the reversible DB Kind of Two GMT. Beyond its striking dual-identity design, the timepiece offers a functional advantage: a dual-time display across two distinct dials, seamlessly accessed with a single, ultra-precise flipping motion, an impressive feat of horological engineering by De Bethune.

Two Faces, Two Time Zones: A Masterclass in Technical Complexity

Crafting a watch with two distinct and independent dials was a formidable challenge, requiring the development of a highly sophisticated movement entirely conceived and produced within De Bethune’s manufacture in l’ Auberson, Switzerland.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

True to the brand’s philosophy, behind the understated elegance of this piece lies a movement of remarkable complexity, designed to offer a seamless and intuitive GMT function. A precise system of gears and pinions ensures that the hands always move in the correct direction, regardless of the selected dial. Fully reversible, the watch offers the wearer the freedom to choose their display based on time zone or aesthetic preference.

Contemporary Face: Home Time Display

The contemporary dial, with its streamlined aesthetic, accentuates the movement while focusing the time display around the balance wheel at 6 o’clock, with minute markers along the periphery.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The interplay of polished, domed surfaces, combined with microlight and satin finishes, creates a spectrum of subtle contrasts that enhance the exceptional depth of the movement’s black coating. Despite its compact dimensions, the watch conveys a striking sense of volume and depth, seamlessly integrating both a jumping seconds complication and a GMT function. A perfectly symmetrical deltoid bridge, positioned at the center like an isosceles triangle, contributes to the overall harmony of the composition.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The self-regulating twin barrels introduce a touch of silver, while golden accents on the hour and minute markers, as well as the dual central gold wheels of the jumping seconds mechanism, elevate the refinement of the dial. The polished, blued steel hands, with a satin-finished steel insert at the center, introduce a discreet yet vibrant hue, playing with light to ensure optimal legibility.

A Case That Marries Function and Form

Elegant yet highly technical, the case is crafted from zirconium and satin-finished Grade 5 titanium. Specially redesigned floating lugs ensure an ergonomic fit, adapting seamlessly to the wrist’s natural movement. The case’s unique construction allows effortless transition between the two dials, achieved with a smooth, precise flipping motion.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This ingenious micro-mechanical system, composed of 42 components made from corrosion-resistant materials such as surgical steel and titanium, is engineered to withstand external factors including water, humidity, temperature fluctuations, and offers continuous wearability.

Classic Face: The GMT Display

The GMT face, infused with classic De Bethune DNA, embodies the Maison’s signature aesthetic. The hour and minute track pays tribute to the historical DB8 and DB10 models, while the hand-guilloché central motif, with its seemingly random pattern, is subtly highlighted with hints of blue.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Some may interpret this as a nod to De Bethune’s signature blued hands, while others might see it as the shimmering reflection of the sea under a moonlit sky—an open canvas for individual appreciation, shaped by the artistic visions of both Denis Flageollet, De Bethune’s master watchmaker and founder, and Swizz Beatz.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Adding to the poetic elegance of this side is the refined, fluid motion of the polished mirror-finished steel jumping seconds hand—an expression of pure horological emotion.

Ingenious Simplicity: The Adjustment System

Despite its mechanical sophistication, the DB Kind of Two GMT remains remarkably intuitive to use. The dual-sided display is designed for ease of operation: The wearer first sets their home time on the contemporary face first, using the crown in position 3. The second time zone is then adjusted by pulling the crown to its second position while using the GMT face.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Much like Swizz Beatz—an artist of many talents who seamlessly blends genres and influences—the DB Kind of Two GMT Season 3 distinguishes itself through versatility and innovation. This dual-faced timepiece, adorned with deep black nuances, not only showcases De Bethune’s technical prowess but also highlights the Maison’s masterful craftsmanship in blending materials, colors, and light.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

With its dual display and two distinct personalities—one contemporary, the other classic—it epitomizes the harmonious balance between tradition and modernity, just as Swizz Beatz merges musical styles to create something entirely unique.

   DW5 Al-Amal
A time capsule bearing Love and hope

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

De Bethune is creating a one-of-a-kind timepiece for the Mavericks of Time exhibition organised by Ahmed Sediqqi & Sons at the Museum of the Future (MOTF) in Dubai on 9 and 10 November. For this event, celebrating the creativity and boldness of independent watchmaking, the Manufacture is sending a time capsule bearing Love: a universal message of hope for future generations.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The DW5 was the natural choice for this project that was launched in 2022 at the time of the official museum opening, as much for its futuristic, aerodynamic design as for the creative space its case provides.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Designed in 2014 as a continuation of research into shapes and materials, the DW5 becomes De Bethune's iconic deltoid motif, an aesthetic code introduced with the first Dream Watch, which establishes a link between the various creations of the independent Manufacture.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The compact structure of Calibre DB2144V2 developed exclusively for the curved asymmetrical case of the DW5, along with the reduced space devoted to the display of its functions – hours, minutes and spherical moon phases – already illustrated Denis Flageollet's desire for a broader aesthetic playground.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

"The Dream Watch collection is one of De Bethune's mainstays, designed to push the technical and aesthetic boundaries of the wristwatch. As a concept watch, the DW5 allows me to go beyond simple watchmaking. Like a sculpture, the experimental work carried out on titanium is part of an artistic approach inspired by philosophical and personal reflections.” Denis Flageollet, master watchmaker and founder.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Through its choice of materials and finishes as well as the use of original techniques, the DW5 paves the way towards new cultures and concepts, while retaining its identity strongly inspired by aeronautics and space exploration.

DW5 Al-Amal: a wrist sculpture brimming with hope and optimism

Named DW5 Al-Amal, this one-of-a-kind timepiece was inspired by the illuminated calligraphic motifs on the exterior façade of the museum to convey a universal message, like a time capsule sent by humanity. Entirely made of mirror-polished titanium, the case is adorned with engravings representing six distinct Arabic calligraphies of the word ‘Love’.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Whether friendly, passionate, carnal, spiritual or unconditional, love in Arabic is pronounced and calligraphed in different ways depending on the nuance it adopts. Among the many Arabic words that express this feeling, those evoking ‘Al-Amal’ friendship, desire, the heart, love, passion and faith have been carefully selected.

These calligraphies pay tribute to an art that elegantly and flowingly transcends mere writing, making words veritable channels of beauty and emotion.

Watchmaking tradition is all about innovation

The art of watchmaking in the 21st century follows in the footsteps of the great master watchmakers of the Age of Enlightenment.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Building on a centuries-old culture, it is shaped and forged on a daily basis, continually integrating the scientific and technological innovations of our time into avant-garde creations, driven by De Bethune's distinctive penchant for introducing philosophical concepts with a cultural mission.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Dream Watch collection is the boldest and most accomplished expression of this horological creativity.

De Bethune – DB25GMT Starry Varius Rose Gold

De BethuneCURRENT DB25GMT Starry Varius Rose Gold 2024

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

With the release of its 29th in-house calibre, De Bethune is combining its traditional expertise with cutting-edge technology to integrate the first-ever complication into the heart of an emblematic timepiece: the DB25 Starry Varius.

Optimism is growing as the situation in the world improves.

Always quick to keep step with developments, Manufacture De Bethune is offering a travel watch at the very moment when life resumes its course.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The little sister of the DB25 World Traveller introduced in 2016, this new GMT model accentuates the aesthetic appeal and undeniable character of the DB25 Starry Varius.

Invitation to travel

The De Bethune teams set themselves the challenge of developing a travel watch during a period when travel had become difficult, if not impossible, so that when life resumed, it would be ready to takes its place on the wrists of the most discerning globetrotters.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

If you can't yet spontaneously meet up with your friends and family, this is an invitation to travel in your mind. The DB25GMT Starry Varius does indeed offer a simple and effective way to stay connected through time by indicating the time zone in which your loved one lives.

"What on earth was I thinking of in working on a new GMT travel watch while all the countries of the world were entering lockdown? I am pleased that it is now finished and that all the nomads of the planet can finally resume their journey, doubtless with a different view of our world." Denis Flageollet, Founder and Master Watchmaker of De Bethune

An evolving Starry Varius

Incorporating all the inherent codes of the DB25 Starry Varius collection, namely a polished grade 5 titanium case with a 42 mm diameter, a starry sky accompanied by its Milky Way, perfectly integrated openworked lugs, and a screw-down sapphire caseback providing a glimpse of the movement, this new adaptation of the DB25 World Traveller has everything it takes to win over its future owner.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Despite housing such a complicated movement, it is nonetheless slim and elegant on the wrist, even reinforcing the already greatly appreciated characteristics of the DB25 Starry Varius. Its user friendliness and the smooth setting of the GMT movement make it an intelligent and remarkably beautiful watch.Reading the dial

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Starting from the centre, the dial indicates the date on the first disc with the help of its jumping date hand, which can be adjusted via a corrector at 6 o'clock. The hours of the first 24-hour time zone (home or reference time) are marked by the microsphere in a mysterious manner, as it appears to be floating weightless in its corridor. This function can be set in both directions (clockwise/counter-clockwise) via the crown.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Local time, i.e. the second time zone, is indicated by the blued hands whose curvature follows the relief of the dial. The minutes hand naturally remains coordinated with the reference time, while the hours hand indicates the local time thanks to the second time zone. Local time can also be set by the crown, in both directions.

The GMT function

Despite its complex construction, this mechanical GMT movement is very simple to use, with concentrically arranged functions. First of all, the owner uses the crown to set his reference time, known as home time, which is indicated by the microsphere on the 24-hour dial.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Representing De Bethune's technical signature since its development of the three-dimensional moon-phase display, this microsphere indicates day and night thanks to its two halves: one blue and the other pink. It gradually turns at 6am and 6pm, thereby imitating sunrise and sunset. Secondly, the wearer sets his second time zone by means of the hours hand which is controlled via the crown pulled out to the second position.

Day/night

In the centre of the curved dial, De Bethune offers us a poetic vision of our sky by day and by night. A polished pink gold sun in the centre of a microlight shines over half the disc, while the celestial vault is delicately outlined on the blued polished titanium section.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The vision provided is of a miniature night sky, dotted with a multitude of small white gold pins delicately and individually driven into a blued titanium dial. The Milky Way is then hand-crafted using micro laser strokes and 24-carat gold leaf.

Technical spirit

Visible through the sapphire caseback, the reverse side of the movement reveals the latest titanium balance with white gold inlays. This organ has the ability to neutralise the effects of temperature variations thanks to its interaction with the balance spring featuring the “De Bethune” flat terminal curve.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Its aerodynamics have also been worked on so as to ensure minimal air resistance. The escape-wheel is made of silicon both for the lightness of the material and to increase the power of the calibre. The regulator is held in place by a triple pare-chute system which combines a titanium bridge integrating two jewels held in place by a leaf-spring system pressing on the jewels.

The two barrels, which are partially visible, have a five-day power reserve thanks to a self-regulating energy mechanism.

A mechanical treasure

While simple and beautiful in appearance, this timepiece nevertheless conceals a mechanical treasure, since it is equipped with the latest hand-wound Calibre DB2507.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This is the 29th movement from De Bethune, which once again demonstrates bold technical mastery and expertise by fitting a GMT movement into a Starry Varius case and reproducing a miniature starry sky. The complication and its display have been entirely redesigned with a view to optimising legibility and operating convenience, thereby ideally meeting travellers’ expectations.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

More than just an ally for globetrotters, this De Bethune creation exudes a classic, avant-garde spirit and an intriguingly mysterious allure.
