Twenty years after its debut, Chronoswiss presents the Neo Digiteur - a re-engineered tribute to the iconic early-2000s original created by founder Gerd-Rüdiger Lang

Conceived at the crossroads of vintage inspiration and mechanical rebellion, the Digiteur was never just a watch. It was a challenge to convention. A mechanical digital timepiece. A watch without hands. A statement.

From early digital displays to a modern reinterpretation

The Neo Digiteur traces its roots back to the golden age of mechanical innovation in the 1920s and 30s, a time when watches with digital displays and jumping hours offered a futuristic new way to read time. These montres sans aiguilles (watches without hands) fused precision engineering with bold aesthetics and became icons of style and progress. It was an era on the cusp of change, a spirit that would later inspire Chronoswiss.

In 2005, Gerd-Rüdiger Lang reinterpreted that heritage with the original Chronoswiss Digiteur. It was a fully mechanical, handless wristwatch unlike anything else on the market. The Digiteur combined rare horological know-how with unapologetically unconventional aesthetics. Housed in a tailored rectangular case and powered by a historic Fleurier movement, it was produced in a limited series of 999 pieces crafted exclusively in fine metals.

Now, two decades later, Chronoswiss reclaims the spirit of the Digiteur and propels it into the Modern Mechanical era. Sharper, sleeker, and more technically refined.

The shape of innovation

What immediately sets the Neo Digiteur apart is its case - a bold, architectural, tailored rectangular form. The barrel-shaped silhouette, faithful to the spirit of the original, has been fully reimagined by the design team at the Atelier Lucerne. With assertive lines and a pronounced profile, the case feels both sculptural and wearable. A sandblasted horizontal segment on the case side adds lightness and contrast to the structured geometry, while polished edges refine the visual interplay.

Function meets form in a redesigned crown. A contemporary interpretation of the traditional onion shape, now flattened on the underside to improve both ergonomics and design coherence.

The vision behind the Neo Digiteur was to revive the spirit of mechanical defiance - to take a daring idea from the past and reimagine it for today’s collector. The Neo Digiteur isn’t a nostalgic remake, but a statement of modern craftsmanship and design clarity.

The Atelier Lucerne proves that mechanical innovation still has the power to surprise, provoke, and inspire. This watch is a tribute to bold thinking - then and now.

A regulator without hands

At the heart of the Neo Digiteur lies a rare mechanical concept: a jumping hour regulator without hands, executed with surgical precision.

Time is displayed through three crisply cut apertures. The jumping hour at 12 o’clock, digital minutes at center, and running seconds in a horizontal window at 6 o’clock. Together, they form a mechanical digital regulator. A complication that feels both futuristic and deeply analog.

Inspired by mineral tones and vintage typography, the Sand edition introduces a warm 4N dial with a refined sandblasted texture. Navy-blue numerals bring a classical elegance to the modern aesthetic of the Neo Digiteur, creating a bridge between heritage and innovation. Light interacts with the surface in subtle, ever-changing ways - giving this version an almost tactile sophistication that feels both fresh and timeless.

Understated yet powerful, the Neo Digiteur Granit features a vertically satin-finished anthracite dial, creating a clean architectural backdrop for the crisp white displays. The blue numerals speak a contemporary design language - sharp, modern, and functional. It’s a dial that focuses the eye and lets the mechanical digital layout take center stage. A study in contrast, depth, and precision.

Powering the display is the new hand-wound Chronoswiss Caliber C.85757 - a tribute to the original Chronoswiss postal code from 1983. Beating at 3 Hz and offering a 48-hour power reserve, the movement is fitted with a proprietary in-house module developed entirely by Chronoswiss. The module controls the jumping hour, sweeping minutes and seconds with precision.

Visible through a rectangular display window, the movement is finished with hand-guilloché on gold- and ruthenium-plated components - blending heritage with modern mechanical artistry. It manages the energy demands of the jumping hour system while ensuring the smooth progression of the minute and second discs. Water resistance is rated to 5 ATM.

Chronoswiss relies on stainless steel for its durability and sheen. With excellent resistance to corrosion and scratches, stainless steel provides a perfect balance between longevity and aesthetics. Chronoswiss primarily uses high-quality stainless steel in its watches, ensuring everyday practicality along with timeless elegance.

Artisanal details, inside and out

The bridges and wheels are partially hand-guilloché, crafted in-house at the Atelier Lucerne and visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. Chronoswiss pays tribute to the historic FEF (Fabrique d’Ebauches Fleurier) calibers once used by Lang himself as the caseback window is more than decoration: It is a visual bridge between eras, honoring legacy while embracing modernity.

CHRONOSWISS – OPUS Chronograph Purple Rain Titanium Edition

CHRONOSWISS OPUS Chronograph Purple Rain Ultraviolet 41mm Titanium 30th-Anniversary Edition 2025

 The Icon Reimagined

Celebrating 30-years of an icon: a tribute to three decades of openworked chronograph mastery in titanium & ultraviolet - limited to just 30 pieces.

Thirty years after Chronoswiss founder Gerd Rüdiger Lang redefined the chronograph with an open display of mechanical complexity, Chronoswiss pays homage to its icon in the boldest way yet. Introducing the Opus Purple Rain, a limited edition of only 30 pieces, celebrating the 30th anniversary of a timepiece that helped shape modern independent watchmaking. But this is no nostalgia piece. This is the Opus - unleashed.

A classic reimagined

When the original Opus debuted in 1995, it stunned the watch world being the first of its kind. Chronographs were traditionally closed, rather conservative, and functional.

Click, to see the large size.  BIG FOTO

The Opus flipped the script: a skeletonized chronograph with skeletonized movement architecture exposed proudly on the dial side. Suddenly the chronograph wasn’t just about function. It was about mechanical transparency, depth, and presence. The Opus became an icon - and a Chronoswiss signature. Thirty years later, the Opus Purple Rain carries that legacy forward. But not quietly…

Our Vision

When Chronoswiss introduced the Opus in 1995, it was more than a chronograph — it was a statement of transparency, engineering, and independence. As one of the very first fully skeletonized automatic chronographs, the Opus defied convention by exposing what others concealed.

Click, to see the large size.  BIG FOTO

Three decades later, we continue that legacy with a bold reinterpretation of the original vision. The Opus remains a technical marvel, reimagined with modern materials and fresh proportions. What began as an avant-garde breakthrough has become a modern mechanical icon.

Ultra-violet rebellion

Encased in Grade 5 titanium with a radiant purple CVD coating, the Opus Purple Rain stands as a visual and mechanical rebellion. The skeletonized dial is finished in matching purple, letting light play across the black exposed bridges and gears with hypnotic contrast.

Click, to see the large size.  BIG FOTO

The white luminous strap on the other hand may seem innocent - until it steps into the light. Reacting to UV-exposure, it shifts from crisp white to glowing purple, creating a surreal visual transformation and paying tribute to the unorthodox energy behind this piece.

Click, to see the large size.  BIG FOTO

The Chronoswiss DNA remains intact: the signature onion crown, coin-edged bezel, and a modern titanium 41mm case ensure it stays true to its origin while charging boldly into the future.

Function and style

Powered by the Chronoswiss C.741S automatic chronograph caliber in ruthenium black coating, the Opus Purple Rain offers a 46-hour power reserve, central seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour counters, small seconds as well as the date - all seamlessly integrated into the mesmerizing skeleton layout. Every functional component is visible, every detail purposeful. This is not just a chronograph. It’s a mechanical theatre on the wrist.

Click, to see the large size.  BIG FOTO

A skeletonized automatic chronograph movement refined for transparency and performance. Visible through the open architecture, it features black galvanized bridges and a CVD-coated, skeletonized rotor, adorned with subtle Côtes de Genève

Click, to see the large size.  BIG FOTO

With central chronograph seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour counters, a small seconds display, and an analog date function, the movement delivers both function and finesse. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 46 hours, it is the mechanical pulse of this reimagined icon.

Click, to see the large size.  BIG FOTO

The Chronoswiss Opus features a sophisticated chronograph mechanism with central stopwatch seconds, a 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock — allowing precise measurement of elapsed time.

Click, to see the large size.  BIG FOTO

A small second at 9 o’clock ensures constant running time, while a cleanly integrated date at 3 o’clock adds daily utility to this mechanical masterpiece.

The Magic Strap

The Opus Purple Rain comes fitted with a white leather strap that holds a hidden surprise: It is UV-reactive. As soon as sunlight touches the surface, the strap transforms into a vivid purple hue - a dramatic, almost alchemical shift that mirrors the energy of the piece itself.

Click, to see the large size.  BIG FOTO

Indoors it stays crisp and clean; outdoors, it comes alive. A playful yet refined nod to transformation, time, and light.

The legend is back

With only 30 pieces produced, the Opus Purple Rain is a collector’s celebration - not just of Chronoswiss, but of the modern skeleton chronograph itself. It is the past, reinvented. The future, embodied. The machine, revealed. The definition of «Modern Mechanical» - and a statement beyond Time.

Click, to see the large size.  BIG FOTO

The Opus Purple Rain is a reminder that true icons don’t age - they evolve. From its roots in mechanical transparency to this rebellious ultraviolet chapter, the Chronoswiss Opus remains a watch for those who dare to see how far precision can be pushed.
