After the Palm Green and Ocean Blue 2023 editions, which also introduced the first titanium bracelet in addition to the Cordura strap and are now also available with an alligator strap, Cyrus Genève is now offering its latest version in a completely new shade.

The Klepcys GMT Royal Purple is born, decked out in vivid purple, a colour associated with nobility and originality. Equally noble is the art of watchmaking that Cyrus Genève, with Manufacture based in Le Locle, pursues, creating masterpieces of time in keeping with the high quality standards of Swiss watchmaking and giving them a unique and unconventional stylistic identity.

A time instrument designed to be “user-friendly” and intuitive, displaying local time and home time simultaneously, Klepcys GMT Royal Purple is a trusted companion for anyone wishing to travel for business or pleasure, and are also in search of an exclusive timepiece.

The case

The Klepcys case, with its distinctive cushion shape, is made up of no less than 26 parts. With a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 13.9 mm, it is water-resistant to 10 ATM and is crafted from grade 5 polished/satin finished titanium, a material renowned for its hypoallergenic properties and lightness. It fits also comfortably on the wrist thanks to its well thought-out ergonomic design.

An ever-present feature are the two functional crowns, engraved with the brand's signature logo, which are surrounded by a grey rubber ring for a better grip.

While the crown at 3 o'clock winds the movement and sets the main time and the second time zone simultaneously, pressing the crown pusher at 9 o'clock moves the hand of the main time forward by one hour each time it is pressed.

The three-dimensional bezel, applied to the central body of the case, has a square base with curved sides and corners that are enhanced by polished facets and a matt satin-finished top that frames the anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

The elongated lugs surrounding the twin crowns have a polished profile that contrasts with the satin-finished parts. This combination of finishes is repeated on the case back ring that frames the transparent porthole, which is sealed by four custom-made screws bearing the Cyrus helix symbol.

The openworked 3D dial

In keeping with the Cyrus Genève style, each dial features a unique three-dimensional design. This adds depth and dynamism to the whole, giving it an exclusive and instantly recognisable brand look.

The original 3D structure of the dial, long a key feature of the Swiss Maison, is achieved with overlapping layers. A transparent, anti-reflective sapphire disc, with luminescent Arabic numerals indicating the main time, allows an unhindered view of the numerous elements of its automatic movement. Underneath is the star element: the palm-shaped upper bridge of the calibre, which is decked out in Royal Purple, obtained by ALD treatment (Atomic Layer Deposition - a vacuum atomic layer deposition technique that generates a perfectly uniform and homogeneous coating, as well as providing superior protection against corrosion). Exquisitely finished, it features circling finish with microbillé edging, alternating with opaque laser-finished matt flat rays.

Moreover this shade provide a pleasant visual contrast to the 4N gold-plated gear wheels, which the owner will be able to admire in action. On the anthracite grey minute flange, the indices at 5-minute intervals are treated with Super-LumiNova emitting blue glow.

The 24-hour Dual Time Zone complication is set in the centre of the display on a matt, opaline-grey arch edged in anthracite grey. The triangular-tipped retrograde hand indicates the home time thanks to luminescent even Arabic numerals mixed with dots.

At 6 o'clock, the light grey small seconds counter, decorated with a triangle motif, is adorned with the unique helix-shaped hand echoing the CYRUS logo. It is the same hue as the upper bridge, with a luminescent end that glows in the dark. It complements the dial in function and style.

The In-house Calibre CYR708

The Klepcys GMT Royal Purple is powered by the in-house self-winding calibre CYR708, designed by Jean-François Mojon and that can be admired through the sapphire crystal glass porthole. Its regulating organ operates at 28.800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and guarantees 55-hour power reserve, provided by a single winding barrel. The decoration of the bridges is refined, with hand-finished edges using the anglage technique. The NAC-treated surface is embellished with embossed rays with a brushed finish alternating with microbeaded flat rays. The combination of all these exquisite finishes contributes to pleasant lighting effects.

The openworked single-block oscillating mass with sunray decoration is adorned with the Maison’s logo and the engraved motto “The Conquest of Innovation”. It stands out in ALD-coating royal purple, the same colour featured on the dial .

Strap

This creation is completed with a grey Cordura strap with stitching matching the dial colour fastened to the wrist with a customised folding clasp.

“KLEPCYS REVEIL”

There is no shortage of watch complications designed to make mechanical wristwatches more appealing, eye-catching and desirable. The market is rich in timepieces equipped with perpetual calendars, tourbillons, minute repeaters, GMT functions and chronographs – whether simple, split-second or, in our case, with a double independent chronograph. Yet it is unusual to find models with an alarm complication.

CYRUS Genève, an independent Swiss brand founded in 2010 with Le Locle-based manufacture, launched its first alarm function watch, designed by talented master watchmaker Jean-François Mojon, in 2018. On the occasion of Watches and Wonders 2024, the Maison expands its collection and presents the "KLEPCYS REVEIL". This latest creation features an alarm function with a more contemporary style, in line with current trends.

With an updated look,  "KLEPCYS REVEIL" features a steel case, now 42 mm in diameter compared to the 46 mm of its predecessor. It boasts a dial with refined grenage decoration, a detail used for the first time in the brand’s models. It also has a functional crown at 9 o'clock, a feature which, in previous versions, was only present to maintain a balanced style.

The "KLEPCYS REVEIL" is distinguished by an atypical interpretation of the alarm function which is reminiscent of the minute repeater chime. The bell-shaped hammer set between 7 and 8 o'clock is clearly visible on the display and has a polished, brushed finish and bevelled edges; it strikes to signal the alarm time set on the dial, producing a pleasant sound, for a minimum of 16 seconds.

With hour/minute, 24-hour alarm and day/night indicator functions, the watch is powered by the in-house manufacture hand-winding calibre CYR1280, offering 72-hour power reserve.

The end result achieved by the Manufacture's highly skilled watchmakers makes this new timepiece the perfect companion for those who prefer the charm of mechanics over digital for their morning wake-up alarm, or to remind them of the day's appointments.

The case design: the Maison's undisputed signature

"KLEPCYS REVEIL" retains the iconic cushion-shaped case, which has become one of the distinctive signatures of CYRUS Genève. Crafted from polished/satin-finished stainless steel, it is a particularly complex case comprising no fewer than 26 components.

The three-dimensional bezel, applied to the central body of the case, has a square base with curved sides and corners that are clearly highlighted by polished facets and a matt satin-finished top that frames the anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The long flared lugs embracing the double crown boast a polished profile contrasting with the satin-finished parts. This intricate combination of finishes is also replicated on the case back ring with its sapphire crystal porthole. It is engraved with the logo, the water-resistance of 3 atm and the serial number and is secured to the case with four screws bearing the CYRUS Genève helix symbol.

The twin crowns at 3 and 9 o'clock are both functional. Decorated with the brand's emblem, they are surrounded by a rubber ring for easy handling. The crown at 3 o'clock winds the movement, sets the main time and the alarm, while pressing the crown pusher at 9 o'clock activates and deactivates the alarm/timer function by means of the small blue arrow that moves over the inscriptions "Marche" (ON) and "Arrêt" (OFF).

The dial: sophisticated contemporary elegance

Together with the case, the dial defines the style and personality of each creation. For its new "KLEPCYS REVEIL", CYRUS Genève has chosen a refined grenage decoration that gives it a refined and elegant appearance.

As always, the dial has a three-dimensional architecture that gives it dynamism and depth. The layout is dominated by two off-centre circles that intersect at different levels. The larger one, with luminescent Arabic numerals in relief, indicates the hours and minutes with rhodium-plated openworked hands with electric blue tips, and is surrounded by a white lacquered minute scale with glossy black indices. The slender rhodium-plated seconds hand rotates on a mirror-polished ring with Arabic numerals on a 5-minute scale that completes the bezel.

The alarm sub-dial is located at 4 o'clock and allows the user to select the chosen time on a 24-hour scale and 5-minute intervals.

Between 7 and 8 o'clock, the display is dominated by a large opening that affords a glimpse of a section of the movement, drawing the eye to the alarm hammer. Its original design is reminiscent of the shape of a bell and has brushed surface and polished, bevelled edges. It strikes several chimes, producing a harmonious and clearly sound, for a minimum of 16 seconds.

The excellence of the dial finishes is complemented by the two-tone aperture between 10 and 11 o'clock for the day/night indication. A bright blue sky adorned with the sun indicates daytime, while the starry sky reminds us that it is night.

The movement: unparalleled savoir-faire in the art of micro-mechanics

At the heart of the "KLEPCYS REVEIL" is the in-house manufacture hand-wound calibre CYR1280, with 340 components and an annular balance that beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour). It provides a power reserve of 72 hours.

The movement's elegant architecture can be admired through the anti-reflective sapphire crystal case back, which showcases the two parallel barrels with black-lacquered ratchet wheels and the helix, the symbol of CYRUS Genève. The exclusive winding system designed by Jean-François Mojon and his team allows the barrel near the balance wheel to drive the oscillations of the balance wheel, whilst the second barrel supplies energy to power the alarm function. In keeping with the traditional art of watchmaking, nothing is left to chance, and the movement's bridges are finely finished and decorated with a curved, engraved, brushed and polished sunray pattern, against which the jewels and mirror-polished screws stand out.

The "KLEPCYS REVEIL" comes with a glossy black alligator strap, with a steel folding clasp customised with the Cyrus logo.

 44 mm in diameter (excluding crowns and inserts) and 16.3 mm in thickness, it is complemented by a slender bezel that allows a wider dial opening, enhancing the harmonious arrangement of the mechanical elements that define the timepiece's functions.

The leading actors of the display are the jumping hour indication by means of two discs in the form of a truncated cone with an inclination angle of 18°, surmounted by a highly original triangular minute hand with curved arms and a luminescent tip, microbeaded with bevelled polished angles, and the two flying tourbillon which seem to be suspended in mid-air.

 Positioned on a frame, all these components perform a spectacular dance. The widest aperture of the display allows a perfect view of the jumping hour and the two flying tourbillon cages. The dial’s rotation has no effect on the reading of the time, which is always horizontal, whatever the position of its components.

 The watch face plays on the contrasting shades of black, anthracite and rose gold, with an array of exquisite finishes that enhance every detail. From the black PVD finish on the frame bridge, to the tetrahedral motifs, to the tourbillon cages’ gilded bridges reminiscent of the Cyrus logo with microbeaded and chamfered angles and perfectly match the style of the minute hand, to the bevelled-cut steel screw heads, some with a mirror-polished surface, others with an additional black PVD coating, nothing is left to chance.  Subject to three patent applications, this extraordinary new hand-wound movement, calibre CYR518-E, equipping the “ETHERAL Twin Orbital Tourbillon”, is the result of the undisputed talent of Jean-François Mojon and his team. Comprising no fewer than 510 components, this powerful engine with a regulating organ operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz), guarantees a 72-hour power reserve thanks to its two barrels.

This new-generation calibre provides the jumping hours on two discs that move around the dial while maintaining horizontal readability, as well as the two flying tourbillons, inclined at an angle of 20°, both of which rotate clockwise and linked together in a manner known by the state of the art.

One of the three patents that has been filed for this unprecedented movement concerns the balancing mechanism of the frame, requiring the development of a new and innovative solution to ensure perfect operation in the event of shocks. Positioning the centre of gravity on the pivoting axis is the first step in reducing the impact of shocks on the frame.

This nullifies the effects of linear shocks. However, angular accelerations always affect the frame and therefore the working components. The frame drives a rotating mass in opposite directions. When an impact or angular accelerations occurs, the dynamic effects are cancelled out because the inertias of the frame and the rotating mass are equal, and the direction of rotation is reversed.

The mechanism for displaying the time by combining the tens and units discs is the subject of the other two patent applications. One refers to the hour indicator. The hours appear on two discs driven by a single triangular-toothed star wheel through a 12-jump kinematic system. In addition to its simplicity, this mechanism also has the advantage of preventing any de-indexing.

A second patent pending is for the instant drive mechanism with surprise for unrestricted counter-clockwise time adjustment. The purpose of this device is to make the hour jump without double jumping and without desynchronisation when the time is set anti-clockwise.

The complex geometry of the upper tourbillon cage, which can only be produced using the most high-performance machining workshops, bears the brand's three-armed helix logo. It is adjusted by means of inertia blocks on the free-sprung balance wheel. Much attention has been paid to the aesthetics of the rear of the watch which echoes the sophisticated layout of the dial emphasized by refined finishes such as frosted and microbeaded surfaces, bevelled and polished edges, polished mirror screws and much more.

 As with other brand movements, such as the Klepcys Vertical Tourbillon, particular attention was focused to symmetry along the 12:00-9:00 axis. It is impossible not to notice that the inclined power-reserve disc, whose apertures change from white to black and then to red when the power reserve runs out, follows the shape of the unusual minute hand. Or the frosted, black PVD-coated barrel ratchet wheels engraved with the Cyrus logo.
