The rings of the hours, minutes and seconds are tiered and fly at a 10.2mm height, a true watchmaking prowess. Projected in space and balanced by 9 pillars, Trilobe’s rings are each the result of a complex assembly.

These three discs are highlighted by the singular colour of the bridges, for a creation both raw and delicate.

A tribute to Nuit Fantastique Dune

Emphasizing and sublimating the rings of time by a contrast of colours and materials, the bridges don their summer dress with a colour reminiscent of dune sand.

The surface treatment of the bridges reveals the presence of the X-Centric calibre and creates the illusion of sand settled on the face of the movement.

Une Folle Journée Dune is equipped with the X-Centric calibre, an automatic movement designed and developed exclusively by Trilobe. Integrated into the X-Centric calibre, the 6.49 mm thick micro-rotor movement combines finesse and technical performance.

Entirely revisited for the collection Une Folle Journée, the X-Centric calibre is taking shape around multi-tiered bridges and plates, whose sharp edges have been carefully polished by hand or with diamond tools to emphasize the microblasted treatment performed on their plane surfaces.

The three rotating rings are adorned with exceptional diamonds whose secret setting, invisible to the naked eye, was designed with the expertise of craftsmen from Rue de la Paix.

A watchmaking and jewellery prowess

While preserving the elegance and extravagance of Une Folle Journée, Trilobe chose to set its symbolic
rings. A real technical challenge that would have been impossible to undertake without a complete
architectural overhaul of the piece.

Thus, the rings were entirely redesigned to accommodate 150 baguette diamonds. An evolution of material was also essential to guarantee the performance and reliability of the movement.

A Trilobe signed setting 

The material as well as the thinness of the rings, providing a limited space for the precious stones, led the House to develop an innovative setting process in collaboration with expert gem-setters from Rue de la Paix, RJC certified.

The 150 diamonds of the Hours, Minutes and Seconds are set through an invisible opening and then slide along the ring, thanks to a unique system developed exclusively by Trilobe.

Carefully selected according to high quality and traceability standards, the 150 stones are meticulously diamond-cut to measure to fit perfectly the curves of Trilobe’s three iconic rings.

Trilobe finds its inspiration in the Garnier Opera house

Emblematic of the 7 art forms, the Garnier Opera House is a strong symbol for Trilobe, who never ceases to reflect its affinity for the arts through its creations.

Look up to the sky to admire an 8-meter high chandelier whose splendour is undeniable. 314 lights, named the diamond belt, adorn the work of contemporary artist Marc Chagall.

The fresco is divided into 12 triangles and forms a circle that must be read by a 360° rotation. This mural was once controversial because of its audacity and avant-gardism. Yet today, it is considered as an indissociable element of the Opera house and subtly reflects the identity of Trilobe.

While some may avoid the number 13 due to superstition, there is certainly no avoiding the MP-13! Defying conventions and undeterred by superstition, Hublot reveals the character of its latest model.

The 44 mm MP-13 is encased entirely in brushed titanium and for the first time brings together two complications—the tourbillon and the retrograde display—in one, unique watch. But take note, as these are not just any old complications.

To begin, the tourbillon features two axes—a considerable feat, as Hublot is one of only a few watchmakers capable of manufacturing a double-axis tourbillon entirely in-house, having first done so with the MP-09 in 2017. The tourbillon completes a full rotation every minute on one axis, and every 30 seconds on the other. Having two speeds within the same mechanism creates a view that is both hypnotic and technical.

To further enhance its magic, Hublot has crafted a tourbillon with two refined attributes: it is skeletonized and suspended. This architectural design grants the tourbillon a weightlessness that more traditional versions lack.

It does away with the upper bridge and each component is pared back unsparingly to allow light to pass through unobstructed. To amplify the visual effect, the space surrounding the 6 o’clock tourbillon has been opened up and is protected on both sides by anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

As always, Hublot remains firmly dedicated to ensuring the daily use of each client’s MP-13, guaranteeing a power reserve of at least four days or 96 hours.

It is likely to have the largest power reserve of any double-axis skeleton tourbillon on the market at present.

And yet, guaranteeing these four days of power proved to be much more challenging for this model than for the handful of similar tourbillons.

This is because—in yet another first—the movement it powers is similarly not just retrograde, but bi-retrograde. These three variables (double-axis, bi-retrograde, four days of power) are typically never seen together as retrograde displays are energy-intensive.

And a bi-retrograde variant, by definition, even more so. Another feature of this unique timepiece is that while the minute hand moves steadily, the hour hand skips instantly from one hour to the next, optimising the daily experience for the wearer by making the dial easier to read. The MP-13 offers 96 hours of power, with the power reserve indicator located at 11 o’clock.

This is also the first time Hublot has designed a bi-retrograde movement for both hours and minutes. It makes telling the time highly intuitive, natural and spontaneous. The display is read from left to right, mirroring many writing styles and the trajectory of the sun. The movement is also very easy to set, as the crown at 3 o’clock only has one position.

Winding through the minutes automatically moves the hours forward. Hublot designed the movement to only be wound in one direction, in yet another effort to ensure optimal ease of use.

This prevents breakages caused by winding the hands backwards — a weakness inherent to all retrograde displays, from which Hublot wished to spare its collectors.

Like all models in the MP series, the MP-13 Tourbillon Bi-Axis will only be produced as a very limited edition, with only 50 numbered pieces.
