Independent Swiss watchmaker URWERK has always championed innovation. And its latest model, the UR-111C - now in a striking Two-Tone (TT) black PVD and brushed steel, teardrop profile case - is no exception. Certainly, as part of the “Special Projects” line - a deviation from the wandering hour indications for which URWERK has become well-known - it’s one of the most conceptually adventurous watches on the market.
The UR-111C TT comes with three key advances for watchmaking. The
first is a retrograde linear minute display in an end-mounted driver’s
watch style. This is a spinoff of the mechanism invented for the UR-CC1.
With a twist. Here the numerals are set in a 30° diagonal slant for a
better readability. This means that the rotating cylinder onto which the
minute indicator is painted must rotate 300 degrees about its axis,
during which a coiled spring is wound.
At the 60th minute, the spring is
released, making the indicator jump a further 60 degrees and back to
the start position. But it also makes the hour indicator to its left
jump too. The result is a pleasing optical illusion of the cylinder
rotating endlessly and seamlessly.
The second innovation is the seconds display. Openwork Arabic numerals are set onto two wheels, each graduated in ten second increments. Each wheel is made using a cutting edge process of lithography, electroplating and moulding devised precisely for the creation of very light and specific structures. Indeed, each wheel, complete with its six numerals, weighs just 0.025g - and that’s just as well, given the delicate dance that the two will now take part in. Interlocking like the teeth on cogs, they show a smooth progression of passing seconds. But how is the wearer to see such small-scale elements? They move - at a distance of just one tenth of a millimetre - under what looks to be a kind of circular lens, but which is a cluster of optical fibres.
The third and, in many ways, most stimulating new concept that the UR-111C introduces is its fresh take on the crown, for winding and setting. Doing away with the conventional, side-mounted winder, URWERK’s new piece introduces a roller system, positioned right across the middle of the case top. Rolling will further charge the watch’s self-winding movement. When small lever to the right side of the case is released, the same roller can be used to set the time, with stop-seconds functionality.
Of course, arranging all these micro-mechanics to create the end form of the UR-111C watch has been no easy task. The transmission had to be reimagined to allow a horizontal movement to provide a vertical time read-out within the crystal glass-covered truncated cones to both sides of the linear display. Connecting a roller crown to the winding stem likewise took feats of engineering, minuscule in scale but no less striking in effect.
But that precisely follows the design ethos of URWERK’s co-founders Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei. More than just telling the time in sophisticated fashion, the UR-111C TT embodies both a visual and, especially unusually in watchmaking, a tactile treat for its owner. They’re ones which will sustain interest and intrigue alike through lifelong wear.

Swiss watchmakerRJ unveils its latest novelty, theARRAWSpider-Man watch, offering a new perspective on Haute Horlogerie and strengthening its partnership with MARVEL
The ARRAW Spider-Man watch, limited to only 100 pieces, features an in-house skeleton movement manufactured at RJ Studio and fully integrates the very essence of the MARVEL superhero into every last component.
Marco Tedeschi, CEO and Creative Director of RJ: “RJis known for our tributes to comics and pop culture, integrating these elements thoughtfully into our timepieces. It was a pleasure for us to work closely with the team atMARVEL Studios. They have trusted us to design and develop a timepiece that perfectly represents the spirit ofSpider-Man and his universe. His inspiration goes much deeper than the watch’s form, but also its function, with the design of its web-like movement.”
RJ applied its innovative watchmaking vision to create a unique openworked model that celebrates Spider-Man in the form of RJ-3005 skeleton movement shaped like a spider web. The main plate and bridges are filled with red lacquer and provide a view of the regulator at 6 o’clock and the barrel at 12 o’clock.
The dial’s openworked design gives the impression of depth and dimension, from the inner bezel on which the minutes are displayed to the tilted indexes that link the inner bezel to the spider web.
The characteristic arrow-shaped hands of the ARRAW product line are set at the center of the movement. The small seconds indicator located between 8 and 9 o’clock takes the form of the ultimate Spider-Man symbol, a red-lacquered spider.
Lightness and performance in a black carbon case
The 45mm ARRAW Spider-Man case is made of black carbon punctuated with rubber RJ BUMPERS™. The shimmering grey and anthracite effect of the carbon material gives the watch a stealthy look.
The case back, made of grade 5 titanium, features a cartridge engraving technique. The letters are polished and stand out from the surface of the micro-blasted back, adding depth to the engraving.
Interchangeable strap
The strap of the ARRAW Spider-Man is made of black polyamide that recalls the texture and durability of the superhero’s suit. A Spider icon appears between the lugs on each strap, embellished on each created using a high-tech thermoforming plastic molding technique and reinforced with a black rubber inlay for durability and optimal comfort. The stitching also recalls the pattern found on Spider-Man’s stealth suit.
The interchangeable strap system is identical to the one found on all the models from the ARRAW collection, allowing the wearer to release the strap quickly and easily by pressing simultaneously on the two lug screws. Inserting a new strap is just as simple. The deployment buckle can also easily be changed by pressing on its lever, with no tools required.
The ARRAW Spider-Man truly reflects the new direction that RJ has taken, offering innovative Haute Horlogerie watches that speak as much to watch connoisseurs as to comics fans.

Inspired by the toughest terrain and crafted with the strongest material, this limited edition series of 8 is the most dramatic collaboration between LW and master engraver and artist Johnny Dowell yet.
Taking a year in design and production, each timepiece in this series has undergone its own unique engraving and blackening process over several weeks. The tiny variations in the engraving of each piece means that all 8 are truly one of a kind wearable works of art.
Born from a collaboration with Johnny Dowell, an artist and master engraver, each of the 8 timepieces has very slight variations in design due to the hand engraving technique and therefore each piece is unique from each other and from others in the watch making industry.
The intricate engraving process for each piece takes many weeks, from planning the layout of the watch to engraving and inlaying the 24kt gold and finally creating the blackened effect. The details are created with a very fine cut done under a microscope or magnifying loop requiring extreme focus and patience.
It is the most dramatic collaboration with Dowell yet, and forms a trio with the previous two limited editions Oktopus Reef and Oktopus Crazy Universe, representing the deep sea, outer space, and volcanic rock respectively.
The unique case material and design reflects the boiling and cooling off of a volcano in action - the gold representing molten rock, the titanium the ash and the blackening the cooling lava, transporting its wearers to the harshest environments on earth.
The Oktopus Double Date Series is a Big Date Complication, crafted with a custom made automatic movement in collaboration with Dubois Depraz, a renowned 118 year old family-owned complications maker who is highly recognised as one of the best in the industry.

Maurice Lacroix has created a new AIKON model, limited to just 500 pieces, which is perfectly in tune with an active lifestyle. This overtly sporty chronograph has a black sun brushed dial incorporating three snailed counters. It delivers chronometric precision, courtesy of its quartz movement, and fea- tures a cutting carbon-effect leather strap. This contemporary chronograph is ideally suited for those competitive individuals who like to lead from the front.
StriveTo Achieve
Housed in a stainless steel black PVD case, measuring 44mm in diameter, this AIKON exhibits a stealthy appearance and an overtly sporty character. The black sun brushed dial features three contrasting snailed counters, two of which are framed with circular brushed rings, delivering a high quotient of eye-appeal. These counters include a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock, a 1/10 second counter at 12 o’clock and a small seconds display located at 6 o’clock. The latter counter also includes a date indication. The hour and minute hands are rhodium plated and incorporate white SLN. Light blue hues enrich the central chronograph seconds hand, chronograph registers and the minute track, imbuing the dial with tasteful bursts of colour.
Consistent with other AIKON models, the bezel features the brand’s iconic six-arm design. The chronograph pushers are positioned close to the crown and crown protector, delivering a neat design, sporty aesthetic and masculine appearance. At the heart of this limited-edition model is a quartz movement, eliminating the need for regular winding. After all, nothing should distract the wearer from achieving their goal. In addition, this movement delivers chronometric precision, an essential requirement for those who lead from the front.
Completing the watch’s high-performance look is a black calf leather strap, incorporating light blue stitching and exhibiting a carbon-like appearance. This strap features the company’s intuitive ‘easy strap exchange’ system, providing owners with the opportunity to alter the appearance of their watch without the need for any tools. Furthermore, the strap incorporates the brand’s stylish ‘M’ logo and is paired with a butterfly buckle in stainless steel black PVD.
This limited-editionAIKON invites the wearer to press the pusher, explore their limits and strive to achieve.
Success Breeds Success
Maurice Lacroix has frequently enjoyed the sweet taste of success. In the 1990s, the Calypso was the brand’s bestselling model. This model provided the inspiration for the AIKON, another watch that has enjoyed huge commercial success.
There are features common to all versions of the watch: the integrated water-resistant case, the flat sapphire crystal, the now iconic six-arm bezel and the Mlogo gracing all leather straps. Most notably, there is a palpable sense of quality. The dials exude luxury while polished and satin-brushed surfaces are skillfully juxtaposed. These are just some of the reasons which reinforce Maurice Lacroix’s reputation for delivering an impressive quality-price ratio.
Always FasterWith Maurice Lacroix Running Club #MLRC
In connection with this launch, Maurice Lacroix created #MLRC Running Club, a sporting challenge realized in collaboration with the popular Strava application. Runners are invited to participate in monthly challenges with the possibility of winning this watch. Building on the success of #chaseyourwatch and #Timecode, two online games which enjoyed huge global success, Maurice Lacroix is pleased to unveil its latest challenge, #MLRC. Maurice Lacroix has always appealed to ambitious, driven individuals.
With this in mind, the Swiss brand has collaborated with Strava, one of the most popular running application in the world. From March 2020 until the advent of the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020there will be one challenge per month. Each challenge will be presented by Maurice Lacroix’s coach and friend, the Swiss sprinter, Sarah Atcho. Successful participants can win an array of prizes, including promotion codes on E-Commerce, the new AIKON Quartz Chronograph 44mm #MLRC.

UNVEILSMR-G x BRUCE LEEMODEL COLLABORATION MODEL Latest Luxury Men’s Timepiece Comes with Unique,
Jeet-Kune-Do “Yin Yang" Emblem on Case Back
Casio G-SHOCK adds a new addition to its luxury MR-G line. A total of only 300 pieces of the limited-edition watch, which is a collaboration model featuring legendary action film star and martial artist, Bruce Lee, who would have turned 80 years old this year, will go on sale worldwide.
The MRG-G2000BL-9A was envisioned as a collaboration between Bruce Lee, whose combination of world-class physical and mental toughness continues to captivate people today, and the ever-evolving MR-G series, the pinnacle of the G-SHOCK line, which likewise continues to deliver an uncompromising commitment to structured materials, processing, and finishing.
The updated MRG model arrives with a yellow, Dura Soft Fluoro-Rubber Band, which brings both high durability and a soft feel on the wrist, as well as sapphire glass crystal that provides outstanding scratch resistance.
In addition to a strong yet comfortable band, the MRG-G2000BL-9A also boasts a sleek bezel that is coated with diamond-like carbon (DLC) to increase abrasion resistance. The model’s titanium case and bezel are also subjected to a deep-layer hardening process, which makes their surfaces four to five times harder than plain titanium, for a double hardening treatment, ensuring strength throughout the entire model.
The colors black and yellow are used for the case and the band respectively, recalling the tracksuit worn by Bruce Lee in the posthumously released film, Game of Death. In addition, the colors yellow and red, which appear in the emblem of Jeet Kune Do, the martial arts philosophy founded by Lee, are used for the indices and the MR-G logo and second hand, respectively.
The entire watch expresses the philosophical thinking behind Jeet Kune Do, as well as the philosophy of its creator Bruce Lee. The bezel is engraved with "Using no way as a way, having no limitation as limitation," a phrase that expresses the limitless potential of Jeet Kune Do, while its symbol, with the same phrase in Chinese, is engraved on the case back. The 3 o’clock position on the dial is also decorated with Bruce Lee’s signature, using the Chinese character "龍," or dragon, Bruce’s nickname. These and other features make the MRG-G2000BL-9A a special model very much alive with the energy of Bruce Lee, whose legendary spirit transcends the generations.
The model is based on the MRG-G2000 of the flagship MR-G series, which matches the legendary action film star’s combination of strength and beauty while also delivering tons of advanced technology. The MRG-G2000BL-9A features time adjustment capabilities using radio wave time-calibration signals, GPS satellite signals, and Bluetooth® to ensure accurate time reflecting time zone changes around the world and daylight savings time.

About G-SHOCK CASIO’s shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch is synonymous with toughness,
born from the developer Mr. Ibe’s dream of ‘creating a watch that never
breaks’. Over 200 handmade samples were created and tested to
destruction until finally in 1983 the first, now iconic G-SHOCK hit the
streets of Japan and began to establish itself as ‘the toughest watch of
all time’. Each watch encompasses the 7 elements; electric shock
resistance, gravity resistance, low temperature resistance, vibration
resistance, water resistance, shock resistance and toughness. The watch
is packed with Casio innovations and technologies to prevent it from
suffering direct shock; this includes internal components protected with
urethane and suspended timekeeping modules inside the watch structure.
Since its launch, G-SHOCK has continued to evolve, continuing to support
on Mr. Ibe’s mantra “never, never give up”.
