Louis Moinet is pleased to announce that Mecanograph has claimed third place in the Classic watch category of the 2013 International Chronometry Competition. This result bears testimony to Louis Moinet’s success in creating ultra-precise, superlative timepieces capable of resisting a battery of tests without compromise.

The competition is organised biennially by the International Chronometry Competition Association under the supervision of the Musée d’Horlogerie in Le Locle and in partnership with the Swiss Chronometer Control Office (COSC), the Besançon Observatory (France) and the Haute École Arc engineering college in Le Locle (Switzerland).

The Classic category featured 18 watches with a non-tourbillon escapement. Over four months, Mecanograph demonstrated superb reliability and time-keeping performance for three 15-day periods of rigorous timing tests, between which the watches were subjected to magnetic fields, wide temperature variations and repeated shocks.

Claude-Henri Chabloz, president of the International Chronometry Competition, said: “The competition tests are extremely demanding. You have to pass all three 15-day tests just to finish. To use Formula One as an analogy, we can say that the watches have to take part in three grand prix races in a row without a pit stop! Under such conditions, a podium finish is an even more remarkable feat.”

Of all the 25 participants in both the classic and tourbillon categories, Louis Moinet was the only independent brand to gain a top-three placing. What is more, the Mecanograph timepiece submitted to the International Chronometry Competition was a standard production piece.

Mecanograph reflects the synergy between an exclusive Louis Moinet chronometer-certified movement and the brand’s incomparable aesthetics. Conceived by Louis Moinet and produced by Concepto to Louis Moinet's specifications, Mecanograph’s remarkable Calibre LM31 can be appreciated both dial side and through the display back, making this timepiece as spectacularly eye-catching as it is technically innovative.

Mecanograph indicates hours and minutes with signature central Gouttes de Rosée hands, with small seconds also displayed by a Gouttes de Rosée hand on a distinctively shaped subdial at 9 o’clock.

While the right half of the dial boasts stylish and emblematic Côte du Jura guilloche, the left half showcases the pure mechanical beauty of the 182-component, COSC-certified, automatic movement, with the regulator, screwed balance wheel, open gearing and Geneva-wave decorated mainplate all on display.

The display back offers a fresh perspective on the wonderful movement. The bridges, anthracite-treated and enhanced with 26 jewels and blued steel screws, are adorned with Louis Moinet’s signature Côtes du Jura motif, as is the bi-directional winding rotor mounted on a high-tech ceramic ball bearing.

----------------------------------------------------------

Deftly demonstrating its British heritage and ingenuity in watchmaking, Arnold & Son unveils a totally new watch movement with unique architecture: the original Time Pyramid wristwatch. With a skeletonized pyramid-shaped movement seemingly floating between two sapphire crystals, the Time Pyramid is a masterful rendition of technical prowess and unparalleled elegance. This superbly engineered wristwatch is part of the brand's Instrument Collection that combines instrument precision with classical styling.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Inspired by the regulators created by John and Roger Arnold over two hundred years ago, and by antique British skeleton clocks, the new Arnold & Son exclusive mechanical Calibre A&S1615 was conceived of, designed and developed in-house at the company's La Chaux-de-Fonds workshops, Switzerland.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

To reflect the spirit of the brand's rich history, yet with a vigilant eye to the future, Arnold & Son has created a highly cohesive and seductive blend of watchmaking feats in this timepiece that includes regulator, skeleton, vertical linear movement, pyramid-placement of components and multi-dimensional depth. The Time Pyramid is part of the Instrument Collection, wherein timepieces are easily identified by their sophisticated dial designs, off-centered hours and minutes indication and visual display of complexities.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

The skeletonized caliber A&S1615 is built in a unique format, with balance wheel at twelve o'clock, situated directly beneath the palette and the anchor wheel (which is shaped in typical Arnold & Son's majestic "X" form).  At the opposite end of the movement, at six o'clock, lay two mainspring barrels that supply the hand-wound caliber with an amazing 90 hours of power reserve, and provide a more constant force to the wheel train.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

The gear train runs vertically in a linear format connecting the two barrels at six o'clock to the balance wheel at twelve o'clock, and endowing the movement with its pyramid structure. The bridges are designed so that all of the wheels, the two mainspring barrels, the escapement and balance wheel are all magnificently visible from the dial side.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...     BIG FOTO

Additionally, the movement is fitted with two power reserve indicators - one each on either side of the linear gear train - to display the energy level for each barrel separately. The power reserve hands indicate the reserve level via graduated dots (that are printed under the top sapphire crystal) in an arc format, and demonstrate how one barrel transfers energy to the second one when needed. Essentially, as the first barrel winds the second one, the power reserve indicator of the first barrel goes down, while the second one goes up - making for an accurate and intriguing readout.

As if all of this technical ingenuity were not enough, Arnold & Son continued to push the creative envelop in the making of this caliber with its placement of the escapement and seconds indicator at twelve o'clock, and with its three-dimensional construction that replicates the historic Arnold & Son regulators.

This Time Pyramid follows the original regulators from the brand with its component positioning and detailed 3D visual appeal. Movement parts and watch indications are built on three levels, with the subsidiary seconds dial on the bottom, the hour indications on a sapphire crystal dial in the middle level, and a silver top ring for the minutes indication. While the movement is extremely thin - at just 4.4 mm - the multiple levels bring amazing depth and detail to the watch. To further enhance the balance and symmetry of the Time Pyramid, the crown (with Arnold & Son's engraved logo) is artfully positioned at six o'clock.

As with every esteemed Arnold & Son watch, each component in the Time Pyramid is magnificently hand decorated with manually chamfered brides and high-polished edges, all yielding a striking masterpiece of decorative craftsmanship and brilliant execution.

Each Time Pyramid wristwatch measures 44.6 mm in diameter in its classically elegant 18-carat red gold case. Viewed from the side, the housing is stepped and tapers from top to bottom, the widest section accommodating the extra-large glass with the lower part narrowing to fit snugly on the wrist. Each is finished with an exquisite hand-stitched alligator strap.

RAYMOND WEIL – Freelancer Lady Urban Black

RAYMOND WEILFREELANCER Lady Urban Black NEW

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...    BIG FOTO

An exceptional jewel, elegant and audacious, the freelancer Lady Urban Black makes its remarkable entrance into the RAYMOND WEIL collection. A watch with an “all black” appearance, it continues the fantasy by matching the black diamonds on its bezel with the black PVD coating of its case. This ultra-feminine piece of watchmaking is a fusion of horological know-how, and the play between its materials and the magic of the black diamond charms its audience with its off-beat urban look.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...    BIG FOTO

At first glance, the Freelancer Lady Urban Black captivates by its distinctive appearance - both complex and mysterious. The completely black watch fully exploits the interplay of the materials composing it: the light reflecting on the various elements gives it a form and volume progressing from anthracite grey to a deep black. RAYMOND WEIL pushes chic and elegance to the limit: even the 86 diamonds set on the bezel and horns of this watch-jewel are black.

Audacity? For the first time, the Swiss watchmaking Brand is offering a feminine timepiece in black PVD. Thus, the steel of the 38mm diameter case and the folding clasp of the freelancer Lady Urban Black are covered in this coating. Like the rest of the watch, the dial, the Arabic numeral indexes, the hands and the sharkskin-style leather strap of this urbane article are black. The automatic winding mechanical movement, visible through an opening at 12 o’clock, is the only exception.

« So chic, so black », the freelancer Lady Urban Black provides its own interpretation of the urban style.

VULCAIN - Nautical DLC Edition

VULCAIN - Nautical DLC Diver Regulator/Alarm Limited Edition NEW

PLUNGING BACK INTO THE LEGEND

The mid-20th century witnessed the invention of the regulator, serving to balance the pressure between the diver’s lungs and the compressed air reserves. This invention boosted the spread of scuba diving and the emergence of instruments designed to accompany sports enthusiasts.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...        BIG FOTO

In 1961, Vulcain presented one of the first diver’s watches with an alarm movement that was genuinely audible under water: the Nautical. Its strike represents a precious function which – thanks to its triple case-back serving as a resonance chamber – effectively warns divers that it is time to return to the surface. In 2013, Vulcain pays tribute to this legendary model by creating a DLC limited edition

DLC COATING

This highly durable, charcoal grey layer with a low friction coefficient consists of an atomic lattice composed of the two forms of carbon: diamond (sp³) and graphite (sp²). Diamondblack™DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) is applied using a coating process which faithfully mirrors the original surface finishes. Diamondblack™DLC consists solely of molecules of carbon and hydrogen arranged in a structure similar to that of diamond, producing a layer with excellent chemical stability and high corrosion resistance.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...        BIG FOTO

Its proven biocompatibility enables prolonged contact with the skin without causing irritation. It has a very high level of hardness, around 5,000 Vickers, compared to stainless steel, approximately 200 Vickers. This high-tech coating is used in the aerospace industry and in any application in which wear-resistance and a low friction coefficient are essential.

NOMOS Glashütte - Lux and Lambda

NOMOS Glashütte - LUX and LAMBDA NEW

German watch manufacturer NOMOS Glashütte is unveiling two new watches in October, in which both the attention to detail and the effort involved in production and watchmaking has been brought to perfection. Lux and Lambda are the names of the two new hand-wound models “Made in Glashütte, Germany”. These two exquisite watches will be available in white gold. The Lambda model also comes in rose gold—and with a dial that is silver-plated by granulation.
Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The timepieces, which will be produced in very small numbers, combine Glashütte fine watchmaking with NOMOS characteristics and simply timeless design.

The Lambda model is round, while Lux has a classic Tonneau shape. The light-colored dials under the curved sapphire crystals are refined, understated and as fine as pencil drawings: the Lambda model is cream, while the Lux model comes in blue and off-white. The caliber side, which is visible in both cases through the generous back, is more refined than ever: featuring a swan neck fine adjustment, rhodium-plated three-quarter plate, edges angled and polished by hand and fine sunbeam polishing, which is only to be found in this particular style at NOMOS Glashütte. As well as screwed gold chatons, a screw balance and hand-engraved balance cock that reads “Mit Liebe in Glashütte gefertigt” (lovingly produced in Glashütte).

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The calibers at work within these flat watches are the fine hand-wound movements DUW 1001 (Lambda) and DUW 2002 (Lux). Constructed in-house in the NOMOS atelier, where they are also mounted and adjusted in six positions, equivalent to chronometer standards. DUW stands for “Deutsche Uhrenwerke NOMOS Glashütte”- a new name, with which the boutique watchmaking firm is presenting its credentials as a producer of in-house built movements to a wider audience. Thanks to the twin mainspring barrels, both DUW 1001 and DUW 2002 have a power reserve of 84 hours — in DUW 1001 this is shown sweeping across the dial, while Lux manages with only three hands.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

The design of these classic watches has also been paid an exceptionally high degree of attention; a high quality team was engaged in the task over the course of three years. Designers from the Zurich-based Studio Hannes Wettstein drafted the flat and wrist-flattering gold case, while Prof. Axel Kufus, Michael Paul and the team from the NOMOS design office Berlinerblau in Berlin drew up the fine dials, hands, and the cambered straps from fine Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan.

NOMOS Lambda (Rose Gold/White Gold)
In mathematics, the Greek letter Lambda is a symbol for intrinsic values. At NOMOS Glashütte, it is the name of a highly precise instrument, constructed according to the rules of science and those of the watchmaking craft in the NOMOS workshops. For all this logic and reason, it remains a timepiece that calls forth the highest emotions. In white gold or, as shown here, a tick warmer in rose gold: a fine choice between two watches, both exemplifying handicraft of the very best kind.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

DUW 1001, Lambda’s caliber differentiates it in many ways from all other (equally fine) watches. The rubies of the movement, in which the staffs of the wheels turn, are held in polished gold chatons (18 karat), which are in turn screwed to the three-quarter plate with two or three blued screws. The edges of all the cocks and plates are angled and polished by hand.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

And the three-quarter plate is decorated with a stripe polish that catches the light beautifully, which is only to be found in this particular style at NOMOS Glashütte: the fine sunbeam polishing.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

Twin mainspring barrels ensure an extra power reserve—this extremely precise watch only requires winding twice a week. This is displayed on the dial side in the most aesthetically pleasing way: DUW 1001 has a 84-hour power reserve indicator.

NOMOS Lux White Gold

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size ...

This model in white gold is the boldest, most impressive watch in the new selection from NOMOS Glashütte. The dial is light blue, like the sky over the city on fair days, and graced with fine detailing on its white face.  The Tourneau case flatters the wrist, giving the caliber plenty of room. The Lux Whitegold hell version is without the light blue print on dial.

The twin mainspring barrels in Calibre DUW 2002 ensure that this watch only needs to be wound once every 84 hours, or twice a week. Further special features include the swan neck fine adjustment and the screw balance in the hand-engraved balance cock (which reads “Mit Liebe in Glashütte gefertigt”, meaning “lovingly produced in Glashütte”), the fine sunbeam polishing developed by NOMOS Glashütte and the five screwed gold chatons that, rather unusually, are positioned in a line across the movement: everything about this calibre radiates the joy with which it was constructed.

The watchmaking company is therefore taking another significant step on its journey with these new watches. Since 1990, NOMOS has been building prize-winning timepieces in Glashütte, watches that have long been recognized as classics—namely Tangente, Tangomat, and Ahoi, Orion, Tetra, Ludwig, Zürich, and Club. Lux and Lambda with DUW 1001 and DUW 2002 are now emblematic of this progression, which took place over the course of many years: the quintessence of those already firm favourites.
