Maîtres du Temps – CHAPTER TWO Classique

Maîtres du TempsCHAPTER TWO Classique Red Gold
Limited Edition NEW

« He admired the perfect shape of his Chapter Two Classique. In particular the gold indexes, which seem like small ingots literally set on the deep black dial to mark the hours in impeccable manner while giving the watch a general design of a complex and refined architecture.

« He admired the perfect shape of his Chapter Two Classique. In particular the gold indexes, which seem like small ingots literally set on the deep black dial to mark the hours in impeccable manner while giving the watch a general design of a complex and refined architecture.

It reminded him of his first visit to New York, when on the corner of 5th Avenue and 34th Street he discovered the Empire State Building. Built in the 30’s and located in the heart of Manhattan, the Art Deco architecture gives  this 444 meters tall mythical building a mighty presence of incredible elegance. He was ten years old then and thirty years later this recollection was still clearly present in his memory.
He glanced at his watch once again. His daughter would finish school in five minutes. The two cylinders and big date of his watch indicated distinctively the date of the day: Monday, September 1st.  It was her tenth birthday and they would spend the rest of the day together to celebrate this precious event».

Movement: Instantaneous Triple Calendar with Big Date

The technically revolutionary movement of the Chapter Two is the result of the unique know-how of Maîtres du Temps – Atelier d’Horlogerie and meets the highest requirement in terms of precision and performance. In particular, the driving mechanism of the cylinders required important cognitive development and innovative techniques. The performance of the instantaneous change of the big date and the displays positioned on the two cylinders at 6 o’clock (day) and at 12 o’clock (month) proves the quality of this innovative concept.

The most legible mechanical calendar in the world

Chapter Two features elegant central hour and minute hands in solid gold with diamond-cut facets finishing and a small second at 6 o’clock, the big date at 12 o’clock and the day and month indication in full words on their respective cylinders. The combination of the big date and the displayed days and months in full letters gives the Chapter Two a legibility never seen before on a triple calendar wristwatch.

High Precision Cylinders: resistance and lightness

The Cylinders represent the essential DNA of Maîtres du Temps. They are manufactured in Anticorodal, an alloy of manganese, aluminum and magnesium which is resistant to oxidation and corrosion.
The artisanal process of decoration of the cylinders requires several weeks of precise work, from the individual engraving of the day and month to the handmade coloring. Each step of the process needs a specific know-how and unique care.

The Dial : The purity of Art Deco

Inspired by the architectural codes of the Art Deco style the dial reflects a supreme purity of the shapes. Everything is done to facilitate the legibility of time. Long indices in solid gold set on a smart Opalin finished surface clearly indicate the hours.
This original dial strengthens the character of the timepiece and makes it look elegant and classic.

The Case and its finish: complexity and beauty

The fluidity of the design of the distinctive tonneau shaped case hides its complex architecture and sophisticated design. Every single aspect of this timepiece is the result of refined and meticulous work: the inner lines of the lugs follow the wavy curves of the case giving it a unique harmony, while the day, date and month correctors have their functions engraved to facilitate their simple use.
Six specially shaped sapphire crystals with anti-reflective surface treatment – three on top of the case and three on the case back – offer a unique visual access on the cylinders and the movement mechanism.
Looking through the octagon-shaped sapphire crystal of the display back into the beautifully decorated movement within, the eye is immediately drawn to the richly engraved symbolically goblet-shaped rotor of the automatic winding system. The intricate pannier guilloche decorating the rotor’s center provides a noble counterpoint to the text around the rotor’s periphery that reads Masters and Their Craft — A Lifelong Pursuit of Excellence.

“The goblet symbolizes the spirit of collaboration. It is the vessel where each of our Atelier watchmakers’ contribution is combined into a superb blend of talents and passions. The result is rich and unique,” says Steven Holtzman, founder of Maîtres du Temps  – Atelier d’Horlogerie.

The richly hand-decorated movement features a veritable melody of harmonious fine finishing, from the sunray
Côtes de Genève on the bridges with their perfectly beveled edges, to the helical spirals and perlage on the mainplate, to the mirror-polished screw heads.

Maitre du Temps - Chapter One Round

Maitre du Temps - Chapter One Round Limited Edition

Master Watchmaker Christophe Claret

Vision and realization occasionally go hand in hand; more often than not, however, the journey is fraught with insurmountable difficulties. Ensuring that what is seen in the mind’s eye becomes something that can be worn on the wrist is the business of Christophe Claret.
His fascination with wristwatches began at an early age, and when only sixteen, he enrolled at the prestigious Geneva School of Watchmaking. An extensive background in restoration followed, providing Claret with exposure to the finest in traditional horological craftsmanship.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size

Beyond his training, Claret has the essential skills to realize designs that not only have never before been conceived but that previously would have been impossible to execute. Beginning in 1987, when he obtained his first contract for minute-repeater movements, Claret has steadily built what is possibly the world’s most sophisticated manufactory of complicated movements.
No challenge seems beyond him, from tourbillons of every conceivable variety to unusual automatic winding mechanisms via striking watches whose sophistication is without rival. His exceptional movements are as remarkable for their precision and reliability as they are for their complexity.
Claret’s manufactory at Le Soleil d’Or in Le Locle boasts a vast array of equipment that runs the gamut from a full complement of the most noble of traditional watchmaking tools to the latest computer-guided laser cutters. He has become both the first choice and the last resort for horological visionaries, whose dreams can be made real only by the deftest of magicians. In the creation of Chapter One by Maîtres du Temps, Claret plays the role of both creator and developer.
Maîtres du Temps puts the watchmakers first,” says Claret. “It allows the client, the lover of extremely complicated watchmaking, to get to know the creators of the product, those who have designed, made, and assembled the timepiece.”

Master Watchmaker Peter Speake-Marin

For English watchmaker Peter Speake-Marin, the preferred route has always been the road less traveled. From the outset, his iconoclastic personality has expressed itself not only in his chosen profession and passion for horology but also in the way he has pursued that path.
Speake-Marin followed his talent to study horology in the mid-1980s. His skills were rapidly recognized, and he was soon given an opportunity by a prominent London antique watch dealer to establish his watch repair and restoration department. This was an invaluable experience that afforded Speake-Marin exposure to many different brands of vintage complications of the highest caliber.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size

“There I fell in love with watchmaking,” he has said of his years working with these exquisite examples of the watchmaker’s art.
To satisfy his desire for adventure and to broaden his experience, he left England for Switzerland, where he had studied in earlier years. His first stop was the workshop of renowned complications specialists Renaud & Papi. He then dedicated himself to mastering the methods through which today’s increasingly audacious new horological complications are conceived. At the same time, he began work on his own masterpiece — a unique tourbillon pocket watch designed, constructed, and assembled entirely by hand.
In order for horological artistry to flourish, Speake-Marin believes watchmakers must be aware of the past and conscious of the wealth of new possibilities offered by the future. “New design and manufacturing technologies allow fresh scope for different forms that were unimaginable only 10 years ago,” he says. For Speake-Marin, Chapter One by Maîtres du Temps is the perfect medium through which to express his experience of the historical tradition of fine watchmaking and to convey his belief in its future.

Introducing Chapter One Round by Maîtres du Temps

Maîtres du Temps presents Chapter One Round, featuring a bold, architecturally-inspired round case housing Chapter One's groundbreaking combination of complications. The interplay of the multi-level concentric circles of the case and dial entices the viewer's eye inward to the majestic amphitheater of the indication-rich dial. There, attention might first alight either on the kinetic ballet of the sublimely finished tourbillon or on the eye-catching red of the counterpoised chronograph second hand, both in contrast to the backdrop of the dial’s dark brushed-satin finish. However, it isn't long before the clear legibility of layout impresses with its elegant and functional design.
The circles within circles are perfectly balanced by the juxtaposition of the rectangular forms of the two roller indications showing the day and moon phase, which curve down from the top of the muscular case like buttresses and seamlessly integrate the lugs for the strap. Large polished chamfers running the full length on each side of the case catch and dynamically reflect the light and provide a foil to the brushed finish of the vertical elements.
Developed by a collaboration of world-renowned master watchmakers, Christophe Claret and Peter Speake-Marin, Chapter One Round features a world-first combination of complications: tourbillon, mono-pusher chronograph, retrograde date, retrograde GMT, and two rolling bars indicating the day of the week and phase of the moon.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

A tour of the highly legible dial reveals central coaxial hours, minutes, and chronograph 60-second counter; tourbillon and day of the week roller at 6 o’clock; retrograde GMT at 9 o’clock; 60-minute chronograph counter and precision moon phase roller at 12 o’clock; and retrograde date at 3 o’clock. Stylish ergonomic correctors with a slide-to-unlock feature make adjusting the calendar indications a tactical pleasure.
“After working on Chapter One for nearly two years, I was struck by the strength in the design of this round version: it is far stronger in character and presence than I dared hope for,” says Peter Speake-Marin.
Actualizing the sophisticated case of Chapter One Round comprising 96 individual componentsrequires the precision and care of an artist. The hand-polished and brushed-satin finishes of the three main case elementscentral body and two lugsdemand meticulous exactitude to ensure that all of the finishes line up precisely so that the lines flow smoothly. The development of the case alone required a full year of research and development.
“Maîtres du Temps continues to diversify the Chapter One collection by offering timepieces with sophisticated design and technical mastery. This latest round-case version offers a sculptured structural feel with distinguished technical features,” says Steven Holtzman, founder of Maîtres du Temps.

The ease of both reading and adjusting Chapter One’s indications disguises the fact that Chapter One is an incredibly complex timepiece crafted from 678 finely finished and beautifully decorated components. Chapter One Round stands as an enduring testament to the skill, patience, and dexterity of its world-class creators.

Chapter One Round – the Details

The bold architectural form, innovative indications, and ergonomic functions of Chapter One belie the incredible complexity of its unique movement and the structural sophistication of its case.
Chapter One’s master watchmakers have come together to craft a horological work of art, both inside and out. Alternating finishes play with light around the case, imparting a sense of strength and majesty without leaving a trace of the complexity involved. The ease of both reading and adjusting Chapter One’s many indications disguises the fact that this is a world-first combination of complications crafted from 558 components.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

No wristwatch before Chapter One has ever featured a tourbillon movement incorporating a mono-pusher column wheel chronograph, retrograde date, retrograde GMT, and phase of the moon and day of the week indications displayed on their own distinctive rolling bars. Efficiently transmitting power 90° to the two rollers and ensuring that they work simultaneously with the time, date, GMT, and chronograph was an immense technical challenge. That the challenge was met and surpassed is further testament to Chapter One’s enormously talented team.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

A tour of the dial reveals central coaxial hours, minutes, and chronograph 60-second counter; tourbillon and day of the week roller at 6 o’clock; retrograde GMT at 9 o’clock; 60-minute chronograph counter and precision moon phase roller at 12 o’clock; and retrograde date at 3 o’clock.
Meticulous attention to every minute detail throughout the design and execution of all facets of Chapter One’s development has resulted in a timepiece of exceptional presence and refinement. The harmoniously integrated rolling bars, for example, had to be both large enough to be easily read and small enough to be ultralight and homogeneous with the case. Scintillating, laser-pierced moon and stars on the outer roller of the moon phase indication add to its stellar elegance.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

Myriad details make Chapter One a timepiece that richly rewards a closer look, from the small window between the day roller and the tourbillon, which allows a unique view of the superbly finished gyrating tourbillon cage, to the contrast of the hands against the brushed-satin finish of the multi-strata dial. Even the locking corrector pushers are formed from curves running concentrically to perfectly follow the graceful flow of the circular case.
The story of Chapter One Round is one of glorious complexity in celebration of the men behind it.

Maîtres du Temps – CHAPTER Three MIDNIGHT BLUE Gold

Maîtres du TempsCHAPTER Three MIDNIGHT BLUE Gold Limited Edition NEW

Introduction:
At first he was attracted by the deep black color of the dial. By slightly tilting the watch the light was reflected in the complex decorations; giving the dark color shades of midnight blue.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

The very classic esthetics of the dial were in fact hiding an astonishing complication. By pressing the pusher on the crown, the two concealed dial panels positioned at 12 and 6 hours were lowered at first and then they smoothly slide under the dial thus revealing two new time indications. At 6 hours he could now see a cylinder indicating a second time and at 12 hours on another cylinder, the smiling face of the sun.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

By pressing again on the pusher of the crown the two dial panels repositioned themselves perfectly and flush on the dial so the secret was again well hidden. It was the first time he saw such a mechanism and he played delightfully opening and closing several times the dial panels.
The Chapter Three met exactly his taste as he loved classical and innovative high end horology. At the same time this watch was an ideal partner to accompany him on his long trips where, lost between the cities and the time differences, he needed to know his home time.

Maîtres du Temps – Atelier d’Horlogerie -  is very proud of the Chapter Three because for the first time, a watch model is manufactured entirely in our workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds using developments that are both highly technical and innovative. As with every Chapter a specific movement was designed for this timepiece.

For this new execution of the Chapter Three, special attention was given to the color of the dial. The deep black color emphasizes the classical esthetic of the watch and the beauty of the guilloche finish. This new dial complements the choice of the existing silver and anthracite versions.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

Collection Chapter Three: reveal the time
The ingenious mechanism of the opening of the dial becomes the DNA of the Chapter Three. A pusher on the center of the crown allows to lower two concealed dial panels of the dial in order to reveal two additional and hidden time indications: a second time zone indication (also known as GMT) and a Day/Night indicator, both displayed on cylinders, the signature feature of Maîtres du Temps – Atelier d’Horlogerie. The elegant sophistication has never reached such a level before.

The Movement: a technical prowess
Starting from scratch in designing the movement has allowed integrating the cylinders within the caliber rather than just adding a module needing much more space. The high precision conical gears improve the distribution of power and the reliability of the different mechanisms. The tailor made architecture of the movement also includes the opening and closing mechanism of the revealing dial panels.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

Incorporating this mechanism into the movement rather than the case allows for the complete optimization of reliability without increasing its. But a rich display associated with a distinguished elegance is not sufficient: an outstanding watch must also be a precise timepiece.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

For this purpose the movement is regulated by a Straumann escapement which is equipped with a low mass and energy efficient escape lever and a balance spring with Breguet overcoil improving the isochronism.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

The Dial: beauty of the guilloche
The Chapter Three is a timepiece displaying hours, minutes, seconds, date and moon phase all set on a sumptuous guilloche dial in an elegant round 18K gold case.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

When the concealed panels are positioned flush on the dial, the hour and minute hands are completed by a small second counter at 8 hours harmoniously counterpoised by a date counter at 2 hours and at 4 hours by a moon phase indicator representing the shadow of the Earth passing over a photo realistic moon. The small counters of the second and date indicators are subtly enhanced by a guilloche “Clous de Paris” and are identified by small and neat name plates.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

The opening and closing mechanism is a complication in itself. When the dial is closed a light pressure on the pusher in the crown lowers the panels below the level of the dial, and then releasing the pusher the same disappears below the dial unveiling the cylinders of the second time zone and the Day/Night indicator. A new pressure of the pusher creates an inverted rotation of the panels and resets them in the initial position before making them rise flush with the dial when releasing the pusher.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

The hands in 18K solid gold and large Roman Indicies are placed on the magnificent dial which is finely guilloche with a sunray design.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

Indication on high precisions cylinders: the time indication is not flat anymore
The high precision cylinders are the esthetical and technical signature of all timepieces of Maîtres du Temps – Atelier d’Horlogerie. They have to be very resistant and extremely light in weight so as to optimise the functioning of the movement.

In order to maximize the readability the second time indicator positioned in the lower part of the dial is displayed on two separate cylinders: the hours 1 to 6 on one and 7 to 12 on the other one. In the transition of the cylinders (forward and backward) between 6 and 7 and 12 and 1, the cylinder which is not used moves horizontally out of view giving space to the other cylinder.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

This innovative and unique mechanism is patented. Using two cylinders instead of just one means that only 6 figures have to be engraved on the circumference of the cylinder and this offers the possibility for the figures to be twice as large and therefore twice as easy to read.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

The cylinder for the Day/Night indication, which is positioned on the upper part of the dial, requires a 30 days manufacturing cycle. This very demanding manufacturing process goes through high precision machining, lining of hybrid ceramic, polishing, colouring of the sunrays and the stars through a galvanic process and finally hand painting of the faces of the Sun and the Moon.

A new page of the Chapter Three is written and the story continues…..

Maîtres du Temps - Chapter One Round Transparence Limited Edition

Maîtres du Temps - CHAPTER ONE Round Transparence Limited Edition NEW

Transparence
The antithesis of ambiguity, it embodies clarity — freedom. Transparence is changing the world and the way we view time. Transparence reveals the handiwork of the master watchmaker: impeccably finished bridges, precisely beveled edges, and a symphony of mechanical complexity. Transparence − presented here in a limited edition of 11 pieces in red gold − unveils the heart and soul of a rare timepiece too alluring to cover up.

Introducing Chapter One Round Transparence
It is as stunning as it is revealing. The high precision, laser-etched sapphire see-through dial invites you to discover the meticulously decorated movement and all its mechanical prowess and intricate inner workings.
Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

The sapphire dial designed for Transparence is a work of art and an example of the highest level precision engineering. The 0.40 mm, ultrathin high-tech sapphire dial is cut and precisely laser-pierced more than twenty times to provide holes for the anchors to securely fasten the appliqués that mark the passage of time.

The fastidious process of machining the multi-beveled minute track, which includes hand-painted Super-LumiNova indices, illustrates that the level of detail in Chapter One Round Transparence is not just limited to the movement. While the meticulous process of fitting the tourbillon cage to the fine, nearly invisible dial is reserved for only the most accomplished of watchmakers who dare to take on such a complicated assembly, the result is an extremely legible timepiece with a breathtaking view into mechanical mastery.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

Equally notable is the addition of the precious metal finish chronograph bridge visible through the octagonal sapphire display back. Through a patented plating process, four precious metals belonging to the platinum family—platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, and palladium—combine to give the chronograph bridge the darkened appearance unique to the Chapter One Transparence collection.

Click on the mouse wheel to see the large size             BIG FOTO

Chapter One Transparence offers a glimpse into the world of the master watchmaker. The sapphire dial reveals the often concealed inner workings of the timepiece and its high level of craftsmanship. Looking into the movement—the soul of the watch—gives one an appreciation of how the watch was created, the human hands that touched it, the ingenuity that formed it,” says Founder Steven Holtzman.

Scintillating, laser-pierced moon and stars on the outer roller of the moon phase indication add to its stellar elegance. The iconic rolling bars are unmistakable Maîtres du Temps and the foundation of the brand’s unmistakable DNA.

As sublime as it is complex, the original tonneau case put the industry on notice to a new standard of excellence. Followed by a creative interpretation of the classic round case, Chapter One Round demonstrated the collection’s versatility. Now, with the advent of Chapter One Transparence, in both tonneau and round cases—the technical prowess of the collection is proudly revealed for all to see.
