ROGER DUBUIS – EXCALIBUR Spider Flyback Chronograph Black 45 Edition

ROGER DUBUIS EXCALIBUR Spider Flyback Chronograph Black Titanium/Carbon 45 Exclusive Boutique Edition - 2024

 A Vision in Verde Mantis:
The Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph

Leading the charge in sports car-inspired watchmaking, Roger Dubuis has returned to the grid with the third dynamic edition of the Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph. Very rarely will you find a Maison so closely aligned with the world of racing, in which supreme engineering, innovative materials, and iconic colours go hand in hand.

Introducing the new Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph. Dominated by its vibrant shade of green, this Hyper Horology™ design completes another lap for the Flyback Chronograph series, which powered onto the scene in 2023.

This time, Roger Dubuis has created a further tribute to its long-standing partnership with Lamborghini Squadra Corse, who are taking their sports car to the highest level by competing in the Le Mans Daytona Hybrid series. The expressive craftsmanship is injected with the signature colour known as Verde Mantis – a tone that has been at the pulsating heart of Lamborghini Squadra Corse since it began racing over a decade ago.

Commitment to the Chronograph
Last year saw the exhilarating launch of Roger Dubuis’ fifth generation in chronograph design. Not one, but two Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronographs were unleashed, signalling the Maison’s return to this renowned complication – and showcasing a high standard of savoir-faire in every component.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This commitment to the chronograph is nothing new. Indeed, Mr. Roger Dubuis included this complication in the movement he crafted to obtain his watchmaking school diploma. Even then, it was certified by both the Poinçon de Genève and the Bureaux Suisses de Contrôle Officiel de la Marche des Chronomètres. Naturally, when he started his company in 1995, the chronograph was part of the very first watches he created. It has remained an essential and symbolic part of the Maison's journey ever since then. After almost 30 years of evolution, that journey has culminated in a fifth generation, where the know-how and expressivity has reached a brand-new peak.

The Driving Force

The RD780 is a movement that embodies Roger Dubuis’ approach to fine watchmaking. It reinterprets tradition in a refreshing and modern way, offering many technical surprises, including two patent-pending innovations in the form of the 120° Rotating Minute Counter and Second Braking System (SBS).

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This contemporary approach to high horology starts right at the very beginning, where the watchmakers are given full creative licence, allowing them to build the calibre from scratch and integrate the chronograph complication into the movement. This is a bold move away from the rational, modular approach (which consists of adding a chronograph module to an already existing movement) and takes many more months to complete. But the extra time means that the entire calibre is designed to both tell the time and measure time, while also expressing its own aesthetic identity.

Highlights include:
Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO
  • A Flyback function that enables the instantaneous restarting of the timer function while the chronograph is running.
  • The vertical clutch, which provides better accuracy and is shaped like the gear-system of a supercar. It is equipped with an innovative Second Braking System (SBS) that is a patent-pending brake and brings extra stability to the chronograph seconds hand and drastically decreases its flicker.
  • A visible column wheel at 6 o’clock. A legendary component and the unmistakeable mark of technical value. Governing the start, stop and return to 0 of the chronograph, it also makes the pushers much smoother to operate.
  • The 120° Rotating Minute Counter (RMC) at 3 o’clock. Crafted with a radical isotoxal shape, it includes a patent-pending tripartite hand that carries the 0, 1 and 2, accurately rotating past the 0-9 digits on the right. In pure Roger Dubuis style, the counter stands out with its large red numbers. Activate the chronograph, and the RMC begins its joyful display.
  • The tilted balance wheel at 9 o’clock. A signature of the Maison, it provides the same level of inertia as a tourbillon, ensures a strong resistance to everyday knocks, and allows better resistance to disturbances. Its 12° inclination brings volume to an already multi-layered design, while the diamond-coated silicon escapement wheel is paired with diamond-coated silicon pallet-stones, delivering anti-magnetic qualities.
  • 72 hours of power reserve.
Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Thrusting this calibre further into pole-position, the RD780 is backed by the indisputable Poinçon de Genève certification. This is undoubtedly one of the most demanding signatures of fine watchmaking. Using 16 different types of finishing overall, the Maison has decorated each of the 333 components, while all functions have to be tested both before and after casing. The ultimate level of assurance that only few can offer.

DNA of a Sports Car
Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Encapsulating the beauty of a high-performance sports car is a skill that very few watchmakers possess. Roger Dubuis, however, has found its own way to capture that aerodynamic and charismatic spirit, also while incorporating signature touches and intelligent materials.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This year, Lamborghini celebrates 10 years of racing and will compete at the most prestigious level of covered-wheel motorsport in the Le Mans Daytona Hybrid series. For the occasion, the newly-constructed SC63 has been injected with Lamborghini’siconic Verde Mantis colour. Roger Dubuis is honouring the moment by adorning the new 45mm timepiece in the same vivid shade.

In perfect balance with the Verde Mantis tones, the case is built in lightweight grey carbon, with all the sharp lines, essential notches, and precise symmetry that the Excalibur Spider collection is known for. On top, the ceramic bezel provides hyper resistance to scratches, and is a material that will not tarnish over time.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Together, the carbon and ceramic are a direct tribute to high-tech sports car construction. Yet for this model, the inspiration goes even further. The Lamborghini SC63 is distinctive for the emblematic “Y” shape of its headlights. To mirror this shared detail, the bar on the dial of the watch has been given the same sleek “Y” shape and is filled with Super-LumiNova™*, echoing the shining headlights of the car racing at night.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In fact, everywhere you look, there is an abundance of interesting details. Along with skeletonised pushers, the multidimensional architecture features a variety of different surface levels, all arranged with dynamic angles and heights. This includes a lower date display as well as a floating tachymeter scale with its highlighted 88 in tribute to Mr. Roger Dubuis’ lucky number 8.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO  Even from the back, the rotor has been shaped with five arms, like the rims of a sports car. Accentuated with the signature sharp lines of Roger Dubuis, it’s another injection of speed to delight the most ardent racing fans.

Finally, to add irresistible style to the wrist, this Flyback Chronograph is presented on a Verde Mantis rubber strap. Notched for extra volume, it features a Quick Release System that ensures the wearer can change the strap in seconds for more versatility.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Limited
to 88 pieces only, the Verde Mantis model now joins two other choices in the Flyback Chronograph series, including a version in red and black, and another in khaki green and orange. Together, these three spectacular pieces provide a full range of colourful options, giving sports car enthusiasts the chance to fully express themselves on race day.

ROGER DUBUIS – EXALIBUR Sunrise Double Tourbillon Gold Edition

ROGER DUBUIS EXCALIBUR Sunrise Double Tourbillon Gold 45 Exclusive Edition 2024

A Whirlwind of Colour:
The Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon

Innovative, extravagant, and forever at the forefront of expressive design, Roger Dubuis is a watchmaker like no other. A Maison that perpetuates horological traditions, while simultaneously shaping the future with its own disruptive interpretations.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This has been the daring ambition within this Swiss manufacture since its inception in 1995. A unique approach fuelled by the dream of Mr. Roger Dubuis himself, who envisioned one-of-kind timepieces for his closest circle of friends. Still today, that drive for exclusivity lives on through the Maison’s bold invention of Hyper Horology™.

This year, Roger Dubuis’ iconic journey continues at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024 – where the Maison unveils a place like no other to share its tourbillon artistry with the true believers in high horology. To see exactly what sets Roger Dubuis apart, visitors can immerse themselves in not one, but four exciting new releases, each distinguished by complex tourbillon mechanics as well as breath-taking aesthetics.

Introducing the Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon

Powerful colour. Blazing light. Two unmistakeable hallmarks of Roger Dubuis design. This energizing creation has found inspiration in the intense illumination of a breaking dawn. Here, we meet the vision of a radiant sunrise, along with the iconic spark of passionate tourbillon watchmaking.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Embellished with a vivid gradient of gemstones, this visibly assertive timepiece shows how vibrant aesthetics can be equally matched by the strength of double tourbillon mechanics.

Double the Tourbillon

The tourbillon, in all its forms, has been at the heart of Roger Dubuis for over 20 years. A signature mechanism for the Maison – and one that demonstrates the utmost skill and expressive spirit of its craft.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The first Double Tourbillon from the Geneva watchmaker was released in 2005. Inside, the Calibre RD01 linked two tourbillons with a regulating differential – the essential gear system that mitigates the effects of gravity by balancing the two tourbillons. Adding this component in an already complicated mechanism was a technical achievement that marked Roger Dubuis as a watchmaker who never stands still.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Since that moment, the Maison has continued along its path of Double Tourbillon design. It’s a rare artistry that comes with its own particular set of challenges. None more so than the time required for development and craftsmanship.

Compared to a Monobalancier, for example, a single tourbillon takes twice as long to adjust and assemble. For the Double Tourbillon – it’s around twice as long again. This comes down to the hours required for fine-tuning and ensuring that each of the two mechanisms are aligned in terms of quality and reliability.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In the new Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon, we see how Roger Dubuis has perfected the technique of this complex watchmaking challenge. Delivering 72 hours of power reserve, the RD108SQ is built from 319 components and features two flying tourbillons, once again linked by a differential.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

And by placing these Double Tourbillons within a skeletonized framework, the Maison reveals a moving world of finely decorated surfaces and pure aesthetics – all endorsed by Poinçon de Genève certification - which not only guarantees the provenance and reliability of the watch, but also the quality of craftsmanship, whereby each surface of every component has been hand-decorated. A total of 17 different types of finishing were executed on the movement.

Beauty on the Rise

Never to outshine the superb mechanics of this watch, the burst of colour surrounding the body is formed from 108 gems. Each high-quality stone is baguette-cut with sublime precision and arranged in a sunrise gradient around the timepiece. With 72 on the bezel, 27 on the astral signature, and 9 on the flange, a spectacular effect is achieved, allowing the wearer to stand out in full luminosity.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

For the red stones, the Maison chose the vivid shades of garnet. Bestowing vitality and charisma, their rich beauty is the ideal match for the sunrise’s deepest tone. On the next level of the gradient, the colours are produced in orange spessartite – a prized gem known for its high sparkle and mandarin shine. Finally, Roger Dubuis has selected the unrelenting energy of yellow sapphire for the lightest stones. A joyful hue that completes the morning inspiration.

Even more warmth is achieved through the glow of 18K pink gold, which Roger Dubuis has used for the 45 mm case of this masterpiece.

Energy in Full Flow

Limited to just 8 pieces, the Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon is an extravagant watch for connoisseurs. Why be subtle, when you can deliver a timepiece with two high-performing tourbillons, and a radiance that exceeds expectations?

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This powerful design is proof of Roger Dubuis’ expert craftsmanship. Through expressive aesthetics and mechanical prowess, the Maison has established the tourbillon as a signature of its watchmaking, and shown itself as a master of this iconic art. Here, that expressivity is a symbol of the new dawn, where intentions and aspirations are always within reach.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon is unveiled at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024, as part of four new tourbillons to be released this year, also including The Orbis In Machina, the Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillon, and the Excalibur Dragon Monotourbillon.

ROGER DUBUIS – HYPER WATCHES Orbis in Machina Central Monotourbillon Edition

ROGER DUBUISHYPER WATCHES ORBIS IN MACHINA CMT Monotourbillon Gold 45 Exclusive Boutique Edition 2024

 A Creation of Contrasts:
The Orbis in Machina

Bold, unexpected, and forever at the forefront of expressive design, Roger Dubuis is a watchmaker like no other. A Maison that perpetuates the finest traditions, while simultaneously shaping the future with its own extravagant interpretations.

This year, the Roger Dubuis journey continues at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024 – where the Maison’s tourbillon artistry will be demonstrated like never before. To see exactly what sets Roger Dubuis apart, visitors can immerse themselves in not one, but four exciting new releases, each distinguished by complex tourbillon mechanics as well as breath-taking aesthetics.

Introducing the Orbis in Machina

Contrasts are revealed. Harmony is created. The new Orbis in Machina presents a dual perspective of Roger Dubuis’ iconic tourbillon craftsmanship. The astonishing creation embraces both heritage as well as modern engineering, emphasizing the duality of the design, and creating a visible link between watchmaking generations. The story is told from front to back and reveals the art of tradition matched by the cutting-edge architecture of today.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The name, Orbis in Machina, is a nod to the revolving nature of the tourbillon, and the circular orbit of the watch’s display. A fusion of movement and mechanical ingenuity that brings the concept to life.

Continuing the Central Tourbillon Calibre

Roger Dubuis has long been associated with tourbillon distinction, having developed its own line of in-house tourbillon movements over the course of more than 20 years.

The manual-winding Calibre RD115 marks the Maison’s latest significant milestone and is housed inside the Orbis In Machina watch. Built from 283 components and with 29 rubies, the Calibre RD115 is a Flying Tourbillon - just like all Roger Dubuis tourbillons made since 2003. More impressive to look at, yet much more complex to build.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

For Mr. Roger Dubuis, the Maison’s founder, it was forever important to draw inspiration from the past and transform it into modern mechanisms. Here, that philosophy is dutifully continued with the watch’s selection bolt, which is inspired by the ancient “Ébauche” components of high horology. By doing so, it has allowed the watchmakers to place the winding and setting system at the bottom of the movement, liberating more space above for the hour hand.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Innovation also comes in the use of materials: to increase resistance to magnetic fields and keep perfect control of the weight, the lower tourbillon cage is in anti-magnetic titanium – twice lighter than stainless steel – while the upper tourbillon cage is in mirror-polished Cobalt Chrome, which is also non-magnetic and enables the weight of the tourbillon to be reduced by 16%. Finally, the power reserve is optimised to 72 hours.

Designed with a Difference

Within this latest creation, the central placement of the tourbillon has given the watchmakers a unique opportunity to play with the décor - and take their aesthetics in a different and more circular direction.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This is most evident in the watch’s round lines and deep volume. As opposed to the emblematic Roger Dubuis position at 7 o’clock, the flying tourbillon sits neatly at the centre, setting the stage for a beautiful concentricity. The mechanism itself has also been purified as well as compacted, thanks to a new patent-pending planetary system, not only creating more space, but firmly establishing an alternate look compared to other tourbillons of the past.

The Contemporary Face

The Central Monotourbillon is indeed a rare sight within watchmaking. In creation, it poses a number of challenges, such as finding a different way to display the hands, while also redistributing the movement’s components around the tourbillon itself.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Naturally, Roger Dubuis has embraced that challenge with both hands. From the front, this 45mm timepiece is therefore contemporary as well as captivating.

Starting at the middle, the designers have worked outwards, delivering an aesthetic purity through contrasting concentric circles in pink gold and grey that indicate the seconds, minutes, and hours. It’s an overall reinterpretation of the skeleton style, allowing the watchmakers to play with the space and glorify the tourbillon by placing it at the centre.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The 3D discs for the minutes and hours displays are particularly prominent and are contrasted by open-worked flying hands, mounted on ball bearings, that are double-sided and sharp. This particular display required the invention of a patent-pending system, which can safely disengage the hands and allow the watch to be set with assured stability.

A similar double-sided approach has been taken for the flange, which houses the hour indications on the outer perimeter.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Going one step further, the Maison’s watchmakers have set all of the circles at different heights, delivering a multi-levelled décor that draws the wearer in. While revealing a glimpse of the skeletonised calibre beneath, it once again shows the high level of modern workmanship at which Roger Dubuis is able to perform.

A Caseback of Horological Excellence

Roger Dubuis was one of the first watchmakers to systemize transparent casebacks on all watches within its collection. This created an unrestricted view into the Maison’s mechanical world and showcased the impeccable work that goes into every component. More to the point, it revealed the dedication to Poinçon de Genève certification, whereby the surfaces of every component within the calibre must be hand-decorated to the highest standard.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In the Orbis in Machina, the sapphire crystal acts as a window to the utmost excellence of Geneva fine watchmaking. In contrast to the front of the watch, the view through the back is based on detailed heritage, with a look that will instantly appeal to connoisseurs of high horology. Two opposing yet complementary sides that show the differentiation and duality that characterises Roger Dubuis.

The artistry and hand finishing through the caseback is almost baroque in its appearance, with elaborate detailing that feels rich and exclusive. Take note of specific details, such as the sliced bridges, and the rounder lines, which are very much rooted in classic Geneva haute horologie. 19 specific finishing techniques are used, including the elegant perlage, Côtes de Genève, and snailing.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The ultimate reward for this dynamic skeletonized approach is the Poinçon de Genève certification, one of the most demanding signatures in fine watchmaking. Along with provenance and reliability, it sets the benchmark for quality as well as craftsmanship.

A Roger Dubuis Rarity

Crafted with an 18K pink gold case and bezel and presented on a black leather strap with a quick release system, the Orbis in Machina delights with both aesthetics and performance.

This is Roger Dubuis’ first Central Tourbillon timepiece launched within the main collection – and will be released in a series of only 88 editions.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

For collectors and connoisseurs, this immaculate timepiece is perhaps the best expression of who Roger Dubuis is today. A watchmaker who embraces the know-how of the past – and then transforms it with modern creativity and innovation. It is indeed a watch of contrasts. The very same spirit that built the reputation of this entire Maison.

The Orbis in Machina is unveiled at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024, where Roger Dubuis’ unmistakeable Hyper Horology™ is waiting to be discovered inside a temple-like sanctuary, dedicated to the Maison’s pillars of watchmaking expertise. Visitors to the display can immerse themselves in the innovation and extravagance on show, while seeing this new timepiece amongst a quartet of new and impressive tourbillon releases.

 DESCRIPTION

A rare complication, mastered by only a few watchmakers, the Central Monotourbillon, was
designed by Roger Dubuis to create a contrast between the sleek, modern front with
contemporary finishes and the much richer, baroque back with elements of early Roger
Dubuis watches, such as cut-out bridges and round lines rooted in Geneva tradition. The
same contrast that made the reputation of the first Roger Dubuis watches, makes this
tourbillon a piece for collectors who will attach importance to all these prestigious details.
The tourbillon mechanism has been streamlined for maximum concentration and to
differentiate it from the existing 42 mm Excalibur Monotourbillon
by its roundness,
concentricity, and symmetry, all in a 45 mm case. Here we are looking at a watch whose
watchmaking content is both impressive and reassuring.

SPECIFIC HIGHLIGHTS
• A watch with two faces: contemporary on the front and traditional on the back.
• A rare complication made for collectors and watchmaking connoisseurs.
• A specific break-through design: symmetric, concentric, and round in opposition to other
tourbillons of the brand
