A NEW MILESTONE IN OUR MÉTIERS D’ART

Gravée Main marks a new milestone in Louis Erard’s Métiers d’Art series. Hand engraving takes center stage in a limited series of 99 unique timepieces. From case to bezel and from lugs and crown to buckle, every metal element is fully hand-engraved and finished in a demanding process taking more than 50 hours.

Hand engraving brings something machines can’t: uniqueness. Each cut, each curve is done by hand. No two are alike. Just one artist, one piece of steel. The Gravée Main is art.isanship on the wrist. Tradition, with bite. Craft, with character. Centuries-old craftsmanship, made wearable and collectible. A timepiece for the few and for those in the know.

“What I love most about these collaborations is how a minimalist watch becomes something completely different at the artist’s hand. Starting from the clean lines of the Noirmont, baroque floral motifs take over the entire object. It’s steel, yet it feels alive. Gravée Main is all about contrast: lavish ornamentation clashing beautifully with pure design. This watch is unique, not just in what it shows, but in what it says. It speaks of time, art, legacy, as well as resilience, the duty to protect and transmit rare crafts. Artistic crafts should be worn, live, and passed on. That’s our mission.Manuel Emch

Mission to art

Since 2021, Louis Erard has been pushing the boundaries of Métiers d’Art: Grand Feu enamel, guilloché, wood marquetry, and soon-to-be-launched gold wire inlay. Gravée Main opens a new chapter. A tribute to one of the oldest crafts in watchmaking: hand engraving.

Engraving came before watches, born with goldsmiths. By the 18th century, it adorned anything from pocket watches to comtoise clocks. Almost at the same time, swirling Baroque floral motifs flourished. Gravée Main brings both traditions together.

Hand Engraving: the art of depth

The core: the 42mm Noirmont case in stainless steel.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The metal: steel, a material more difficult to engrave by hand due to its greater hardness, its resistance to scratching and deformation.

The process: 50 hours from first pencil stroke to final polish.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The result: a singular object, impossible to replicate and far beyond what any machine can achieve. Each surface, case, bezel, lugs, crown, buckle, shaped and decorated through a precise multi-step engraving process.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

It all begins with design: the artist sketches and refines the pattern, then transfers it freehand or with a stencil. Tools are chosen with care, different burins for different depths.

The surface is first drypoint-etched to guide the engraving. Then comes the carving, line by line, millimeter by millimeter, adapting each movement to the shape and contours of the watch.

Once engraved, details, shading and textures are added by hand and eye. The case is cleaned and polished to bring out contrast and depth. Finally, quality control: visual balance is checked, structural integrity tested.

The minimalist architecture of Louis Erard becomes a canvas for centuries-old ornamentation, extending even to the dial. Inspired by baroque clocks, it pairs Roman numerals and pear-shaped rhodium-plated hands in a modern reinterpretation. Intentionally understated, the dial features a glossy black lacquer finish with anthracite and black transferred prints.

The artist behind the metal

Each Gravée Main is engraved by hand in 🇺🇦 Ukraine by Maksym Shavlak, a watchmaker and artist known for transforming antique timepieces into modern hybrids. Using his tools, he gives new life to steel.

Métiers d’Art. Made accessible

With Gravée Main, Louis Erard once again expands its Métiers d’Art series, following launches in Grand Feu enamel, wood marquetry and guilloché

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Two new techniques now make their debut at Geneva Watch Days: Gravée Main (hand engraved) and Fil d’Or (gold wire inlay). In a world where such skills are often reserved for collectors of inaccessible timepieces, Louis Erard continues to build bridges between craft and wearability, tradition and modernity, rarity and reach.

Maksym Shavlak - Watchmaker. Engraver. Revivalist. B. 1976

Maksym Shavlak is a 🇺🇦 Ukrainian 💛💙watchmaker and artist, born and trained in Ukraine, acclaimed for his exceptional talent in hand engraving. He began his journey by reviving old pocket watches, transforming them into unique hybrid creations.

Maksym Shavlak - watchmaker. engraver. revivalist.

“Case engraving is more than decoration, it’s a way to make metal speak. What began as a series of design exchanges over a year ago became a full creative partnership. Gravée Main is the result. It all started with a meeting, a conversation, a spark of shared vision. I showed Louis Erard what I was doing. They saw something raw and real in my work. They didn’t just want to use engraving as a visual decoration, they wanted to rethink the entire watch around it. Give it space. Let the steel speak.Maksym Shavlak

His work is defined by rare patience, emotionally charged precision, and a deep respect for traditional craftsmanship. Each case he engraves, crafted entirely in Ukraine, is a quiet yet powerful tribute to cultural resilience and artistic rebirth. Steel becomes memory. Craftsmanship becomes resistance. At a time when his country faces one of its greatest challenges, Maksym’s work transcends ornamentation. It becomes a message of identity, dignity, and hope, etched in metal.

Louis Erard x GoS – Le Rrrgulateur Damascus Dial Edition

Louis Erard x GoS Watches Le Régulateur Louis Erard x GoS Damascus Dial Edition 2025

A JOURNEY TO SWEDEN, TO THE FORGES OF DAMASCUS STEEL

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Finding the right rhythm, striking the right balance between two cultures and two crafts – it took patience and vision. In December 2021, Louis Erard and GoS Watches were brought together by Manuel Emch, the architect of Louis Erard's strategic revival and creative transformation. He found a kindred spirit in Patrik Sjögren, watchmaker and founder of the Swedish workshop GoS.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Together, they envisioned a timepiece that would blend the essence of both Maisons: the technical precision and aesthetic refinement of the Swiss Jura married to the artistry of a Swedish forge, where masters of Damascus steel conjure mesmerizing patterns and contrasts in an almost alchemical process. After three years of dedication, the result is extraordinary – a series of 178 pieces of The Louis Erard Regulator X GoS, each one infused with the resolute spirit of the North.

While Swedish and Swiss craftsmanship evolved worlds apart, they are united by shared values: mastery of handcraft, a deep connection to nature, the power of materials, and a distinct, unmistakable aesthetic. A GoS timepiece is as instantly recognizable as a Louis Erard. Merging our two DNAs while honoring each brand’s identity was a meticulous process. We had to let the Damascus steel speak—its raw intensity and uniqueness commanding attention—while shaping it in a way that seamlessly integrates our signature design codes.” Manuel Emch.

Snow and Steel in Fusion

Linköping, 200 kilometers from Stockholm, is hardly the watchmaking capital of the world, yet it is here that master watchmaker Patrik Sjögren has chosen to establish his atelier. A craftsman who takes his time, he shapes and assembles each piece by hand, ensuring that every watch is truly unique

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

His creations center around the extraordinary use of Damascus steel, a material he entrusts exclusively to his friend and fellow Swede, blacksmith Conny Persson. Together, these two masters—watchmaker and blacksmith—are the very soul of GoS, founded in 2007.

It was only natural that the paths of Louis Erard and GoS would eventually meet, drawn together by a shared independent spirit, a deep reverence for nature, a commitment to local craftsmanship, and a passion for limited-edition creations, distinctive design, and uncompromising mechanical precision. The Régulateur Louis Erard X GoS is the result—a timepiece born from an artistic bridge between Switzerland and Sweden.

A Tribute to the Art of Damascus Steel

Each timepiece is housed in an elegantly proportioned 39mm steel case, framing a Damascus steel dial that makes every watch truly unique

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Forged by Conny Persson and meticulously hand-finished by Patrik Sjögren, each dial undergoes a proprietary bath treatment that intensifies its contrasts—brightening the gray tones while deepening the blacks, creating a striking visual depth. While the overall geometry remains consistent, inspired by the intricate veins of trees found in both Swedish and Swiss forests, no two dials are ever alike, as each steel pattern is shaped by the unpredictable nature of the forging process.

Floating above this one-of-a-kind surface are three distinctive blue hands, arranged in the classic Régulateur configuration. The design embodies GoS’s signature aesthetic, from the triskelion-inspired small seconds counter at 6 o’clock to the sharply notched hour and minute tracks, also a hallmark of the brand’s design syntax.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The timepiece is presented on an equally nature-inspired strap crafted from salmon leather—a first for Louis Erard – paying homage to GoS’s Nordic origins, nestled between the Baltic and North Sea.

The Louis Erard Régulateur x GoS is limited to just 178 pieces, in keeping with all Louis Erard collaborations. A number rich in symbolism, its calligraphy conveys "stronger together" — a motto that has never been more fitting than for the union of Louis Erard and GoS.

“Creating with Vianney is about friendship and defying limits. This piece is a true joint endeavor! It’s got the Steampunk rivets, the off-center dials, as well as bold, intricate details that leave nothing untouched. A watch with all the independent Haute Horlogerie codes… yet still within reach, bold enough to stand out, yet made to be worn every day. Vianney’s Edge in a Louis Erard watch

Vianney Halter is no ordinary watchmaker. For over two decades, he has been defying horological conventions with bold, Steampunk-inspired designs.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

His debut independent piece, the Antiqua (1998), set the stage for a deconstructed vision of time. Now, he’s found a brand that shares his love for breaking the rules of design and the Régulateur is a perfect reflection of that spirit.

ABOUT VIANNEY HALTER

Vianney Halter was born in 1963 on the outskirts of Paris, the son of an engine driver on the French railways. He remembers being fascinated by the old machines and mechanical objects that his father brought home. Perhaps this early contact with powerful locomotives, steam engines and other measuring instruments is the reason why he was attracted to technology and mechanics.

At 14 years of age, Vianney Halter made the decision to broaden his interest in mechanics, and took the train to the capital to enrol at the École Horlogère de Paris (Paris Watchmaking School). He qualified in 1980 and spent his first ten years in the profession restoring antique watches and clocks, experience which gave him in-depth knowledge of the art of watchmaking.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Self-employed since 1984, he then went on to create a variety of timepieces for well-known manufacturers including Harry Winston, Breguet, and Audemars Piguet. He has also invented and developed his own collection of wristwatches since 1998.

His designs have been regarded as avant-garde pieces and are considered to have instigated a new shift in the watchmaking world. Vianney Halter makes unusual watches in the traditional method of the master watchmakers of the past, while using singular aesthetics, his own technical patents and unique constructions. All of this is illustrated in his first model, the “Antiqua”, a perpetual calendar presented in 1998. This watch was instantly regarded as a "relic of the future", reinforcing Halter's creativity and allowing him to enter the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI).

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

His years as an independent watchmaker continuing the art of watchmaking and his contribution to the modern horological landscape have already earned him nine awards. He has created around ten models of wristwatches, but the high level of workmanship they demand means their production is confidential. Indeed, under 500 pieces created by Vianney Halter have been produced to this day.
