EMERA was born in Switzerland, founded in 2023 by two passionate partners: designer Patrick Freiburghaus and master watchmaker Cyrano Devanthey, who brings over a quarter-century of experience in haute horlogerie, having worked with some of the most prestigious maisons.

Forged from Grade 5 titanium and high-density quartz composite, its architecture captures light, channels energy, and commands presence. Lines are taut, surfaces sharpened, angles carved with surgical precision. Its exclusive in-house calibre, the MRA 02-1, 100% developed in Switzerland and assembled in the EMERA workshop, reveals a 20° inclined balance wheel, beating like an exposed heart. The openworked oscillating weight is sculpted like a piece of dynamic fine artistry.

The EP 01-01 Cyborg Black Shadow Warrior is the latest bold creative expression from the young luxury Swiss marque - EMERA, whose audacious ambition is to redefine the parameters of haute horlogerie and challenge expectations of what a luxury watch can be.

The remarkable new creation exemplifies the values of craftsmanship, dedication to mastery, and the enduring human pursuit of perfection, common to both master watchmakers and the ancient Samurai Warrior class.

Many details are directly inspired by the ways of the samurai and the strict code of ethics and ethos that governed their way of life. It is designed to invoke the values, virtues, and principles of samurai tradition and inspire whoever wears it to strive for excellence and uphold integrity.

The dial:

The intimidating sculpted relief of a samurai warrior in traditional armour evokes the intricate, highly decorative forging techniques used on Katana sword hilts and the Tsuba (handguard). It reveals one of the most beautiful and understated design features of the watch. Hidden beneath the opaque black DLC coating is delicately hand-carved 18k rose gold, forever concealed, a secret known only to its owner.

Frugality, humility, and modesty were considered virtues in feudal Japan. While samurai were members of a hierarchical society where social status and wealth played significant roles, they were expected to maintain a humble, discrete outward appearance and avoid extravagance.

The beating heart

Inside the watch is the Calibre MRA 01, an in-house, mechanical, automatic movement with a sixty-second flying tourbillon.

The case:

While samurai symbology is the key design theme of EP 01-01 Cyborg Black Shadow Warrior, its angular case unapologetically borrows characteristics of hypercars, both in its dynamic lines and in the lightweight, high-performance materials employed. Grade 5 titanium coated with DLC makes it considerably more resilient than even the toughest samurai armour.

EMERA was invited to unveil its new watch at a special gala dinner hosted by Princess Stéphanie of Monaco for Fight Aids Monaco. Among the VIP guests to be the first to glimpse a pre-production prototype up close were warriors of world football - Robert Pires, Ricardo Carvalho, Fernando Morientes, Gaizka Mendieta, Francesco Totti, Clarence Seedorf, and Youri Djorkaeff.

They create timepieces without concessions and go to the limits of the possibilities of today in terms of aesthetics and manufacturing.

A MOVEMENT WITH HYPER SHAPES

The 60 seconds tourbillon, designed exclusively for the case of the Cyborg model, is the first chapter of future super movements from their workshop.

The innovative aesthetics and the architecture of the movement are the fruit of the close collaboration between the Designer and the Watchmaker.

This “engine” is machined with extreme precision and the decorations are applied by hand. The movement provides a power reserve of 44 hours and is composed of 177 individual components. Its heart beats at a frequency of 4 Hz / 28’800 vibrations per hour.

This way, the perfect match between the shape of the case and the lines of the movement could be achieved. The uniqueness of the case goes hand in hand with the custom-engineered movement.

EMERA offers audacity and watchmaking tradition in the same timepiece with its new creation. The CYBORG timepiece is an ode to the future with a remarkable design. Each fraction is in balance with the whole design.

The aesthetics and shapes open new paths in watchmaking. However, the unconventional dial, which offers a constellation of novelties, does not show the movement, even if there is nothing to be hidden in the in-house tourbillon movement.

The Dial comprises 40 carbon scales with a thickness of just 0.30 mm. The “Reptile Gold” carbon composite design is inspired by the captivating patterns found on exotic snakes.

The carbon fiber also contains bronze particles which enhance the sparkling and shimmering characteristics of the material.

Besides the known qualities of carbon fiber, like lightweight, strength, corrosion resistance, and dimensional stability, it offers a unique pattern.

Like snowflakes, no scale is identical to one another. This uniqueness of each scale makes every watch an individual piece and simultaneously gives the timepiece its mechanical and animalistic look.

ONLY SWISS DNA

All case and movement components are engineered and manufactured in Switzerland. The assembly takes place in Emera’s workshop to ensure the highest quality.

The case is equipped with two sapphire crystals. The second sapphire crystal, located at 6 o’clock, allows technically minded individuals to observe the fascinating tourbillon from a different angle.

The hypercar-inspired case-back is an attraction of its own with the shapes that remind vent openings for the engine. The engine underneath, the in-house tourbillon movement, is protected from its environment by a titanium case. Great care is taken to decorate every single component, even if not visible.

Designed to be comfortable on the wrist, the pin buckle has an aerodynamic shape where soft and aggressive lines are combined. The case and the buckle are made from Grade 5 Titanium.

The alternation between polished, bead-blasted, and satin-finished surfaces enhances the intricate details of the design. Special care of the details has been taken for every component. Not only at the time of manufacturing but also before that. Even the raw material for the sapphire crystal is made in Switzerland.

In their quest to work with the best specialist in their field, a leather-good workshop makes bracelets in Paris with a long tradition, where the knowledge is inherited from father to son for many generations.
