CHOPARD – Alpine Eagle XL Chrono Rhone Blue Titanium

CHOPARDALPINE EAGLE XL Chrono Titanium “Rhône Blue” Dial Automatic 2024

A precision chronograph combining the lightness of titanium
with the aesthetic of a “Rhône Blue” dial
A symbol of Chopard’s support for the Alpine Eagle Foundation dedicated to
preserving the Alpine environment and its biodiversity

The Alpine Eagle collection of sporty-chic timepieces is interpreting its flyback chronograph in a case featuring the extreme lightness of grade 5 titanium, a metal known for its tried and tested sturdiness. Like the entire collection, this Alpine Eagle XL Chrono model with its 44 mm-diameter case now framing a new “Rhône Blue” dial colour remains strongly inspired by the power of the eagle and the beauty of the Alps.

The three patents for its Chopard 03.05-C chronometer-certified movement with flyback function testify to innovations enhancing its accuracy as well as its smooth handling. In line with the Maison’s commitment to preserving the Alpine environment and its biodiversity, part of the proceeds from sales of this model will be donated to the Alpine Eagle Foundation.

Titanium joins the Alpine Eagle chronograph series

The Alpine Eagle XL Chrono welcomes a new 44 mm model. Its extra-large case featuring a pure, assertive design is entirely forged from grade 5 titanium. While this metal known for its extreme lightness and superior resistance has already been used to make two high-frequency Alpine Eagle models, it is now making its debut in the collection’s chronograph line.

Alpine Eagle had thus far been interpreted through several variations in Chopard’s exclusive Lucent SteelTM and ethical gold. Featuring a slightly darker shade than steel, titanium further accentuates the sporty and rugged nature of the Alpine Eagle chronograph, while making it so light that one could easily forget the watch is actually on the wrist. Combined with a blend of aluminium and vanadium, grade 5 titanium’s properties make it specially resistant to corrosion and salt water. From steep peaks to ocean depths, the Alpine Eagle XL Chrono thus remains the finest ally of extreme sports enthusiasts.

A cutting-edge chronograph movement

Beating at the heart of all the Alpine Eagle XL Chrono models, the Chopard 03.05-C movement developed and assembled by the artisans in the Manufacture is one of the world’s most innovative chronograph movements. It has a 60-hour power reserve and features an elaborate design guaranteeing accurate adjustments and optimal use of the chronograph functions.

Equipped with a column wheel, it is also enhanced by several technical innovations that have earned Chopard three patents stemming from the boldness of its R & D teams.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

First of all, it is equipped with a unidirectional gear drive system that prevents energy losses while ensuring rapid automatic winding, a function much appreciated in the inherently energy-hungry chronograph category. In addition, its vertical clutch ensures accurate time-measurement starts. This chronograph calibre is also of the flyback variety, enabling smooth successive timing operations thanks to three pivoting hammers with elastic arms facilitating zero-setting of the hands.

Equipped with a stop-seconds function enabling accurate adjustments of the watch, the Chopard 03.05-C movement is chronometer-certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute.

A sporty contemporary rubber strap

Already available with an integrated metal bracelet and a leather option, the Alpine Eagle XL Chrono model has reinvented itself since 2022 with a rubber strap. The multiple advantages of this material make it an ideal ally for sports chronographs subjected to the most extreme conditions: water-resistant, malleable and comfortable to wear, it gives the timepiece a particularly dynamic look. In using rubber, the Chopard workshops have preserved the elegance and identity of the Alpine Eagle by reprising the shape of the metal-link bracelet – slightly tapering with a raised central cap – that is an integral part of the collection’s DNA. The material is different, while the identity and well-balanced proportions remain signature features of this new contemporary chronograph.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Chopard cultivates a longstanding tradition of sporty rubber straps. In 1995, the Maison’s workshops were among the first to adopt this material with its strong creative potential by reproducing the rubber treads of 1960s tyres on the straps of its Mille Miglia chronograph collection. This trend that has been continuously nurtured by the Mille Miglia models has since spread widely across the watchmaking scene.

A dial in the eagle’s eye

A new colour makes its debut on the dial of this new model. Inspired by the palette of natural colours composing the beauty of the Alpine landscape – like Aletsch Blue, Bernina Grey and Pitch Black – “Rhône Blue”  is inspired by the palette of natural colours composing the beauty of Alpine landscapes. It is reminiscent of one of the Alps’ most famous rivers, the Rhône, which originates at the heart of the eponymous glacier in the canton of Valais. It is here – at an altitude of over 2,200 metres – that the journey of this emblematic river begins amid gentle blue hues synonymous with purity, feeding the waters of Lake Geneva and ending its course in the Mediterranean Sea.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The texture and sunburst pattern evoke an eagle's iris. The seconds hand with its arrow-shaped tip flies over a highly legible display punctuated by snailed counters. The hands and hour-markers are coated with Grade XI Super-LumiNova®, a treatment offering the advantage of retaining the same intensity over the years, while naturally more luminous than traditional Super-LumiNova®.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The tachymeter scale bearing discreet red 100, 160 and 240 graduations appears on the inner bezel ring. It is divided into four steps, with different intervals of 5, 10, 20 or 40 km/h per line. This arrangement facilitates reading the average speed measurements and contributes to the dial’s overall aesthetic dynamic.

Direct support for the Alpine Eagle Foundation

The Alpine Eagle Foundation's motto is "Preserving the Alps": an explicit, broad and philanthropic goal. It was set up in 2020 by Chopard’s Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and a number of specialists and lovers of the Alps, including falconer Jacques-Olivier Travers (creator of the Parc des Aigles du Léman) and Ronald Menzel (director of the Freedom Conservation movement dedicated to protecting birds of prey). The Foundation's projects aim to raise awareness, mobilise people and act on behalf of the entire Alpine region and the life it shelters.

Thanks to its partnerships, the Foundation is already supporting a programme to reintroduce the white-tailed eagle around Lake Geneva, as well as a scientific mission analysing the ability of eagles and bearded vultures to memorise potentially lethal obstacles in their territory – such as wind turbines or other human installations – and to modify their behaviour accordingly.

Chopard
directly contributes to financing the Foundation's programmes through several Alpine Eagle timepieces. Part of the profits from sales of this new chronograph model with its "Rhône Blue" dial will be donated to the Alpine Eagle Foundation.

Reinterpreting an icon

Devised by three generations of men in the Scheufele family, the Alpine Eagle collection is a modern reinterpretation of the St. Moritz watch, the first horological creation by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele in the late 1970s. With its pure and assertive design, Alpine Eagle enriches this heritage with powerful inspiration drawn from Nature.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A round case with stylised flanks; a crown engraved with a compass rose; a bezel with eight functional indexed screws; as well as textured dial with deep hues and luminescent indications: Alpine Eagle embodies impeccable elegance expressed in a resolutely contemporary manner. Today, in addition to its chronographs, the collection offers a variety of complications, from a high-frequency movement to a flying tourbillon and an extra-thin model with small seconds indication bearing the Poinçon de Genève.

CHOPARD – L.U.C Full Strike Titanium Edition

CHOPARDL.U.C Full Strike  Ceramicised Titanium Minute Repeater Celadon Green Dial Edition 2024

A new Chopard L.U.C Full Strike Edition

The crystal-clear sound of the Chopard minute repeater chimes at the heart an audacious new design in ceramicised titanium.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Following “Sound of Eternity” imited editions in ethical gold, hardened steel, platinum and sapphire, Chopard has preserved the purity of sound of L.U.C Calibre 08.01-L by integrating this patented minute repeater mechanism with monobloc sapphire gongs into a 42.50 mm-diameter case made of anthracite ceramicised titanium. Combining technical innovation with bold styling, this certified chronometer issued in a an exclusive 20-piece edition is the first in the Full Strike family to feature a dial whose verdigris shade has been subtly enhanced by meticulous finishing. It is honoured by the prestigious Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO    In 2016, the first L.U.C Full Strike model heralded a a novel way of generating and propagating the sound of a minute repeater. By using solid sapphire gongs and having the sapphire crystal serve as a resonator, as well as by combining these two components into a single, monobloc entity, Chopard offered incomparable tonal richness and acoustic intensity. This crystal-clear, inalterable sound earned the first L.U.C Full Strike model in rose gold the ultimate “Aiguille d’Or” award at the 2017 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève.

The case
An innovative material

The use of ceramicised titanium for the new L.U.C Full Strike model represents a new feat in Chopard Manufacture’s art of fitting its exceptional minute repeater movement inside a case whose material in no way alters the purity of the sound, since the sapphire crystal is directly connected to the gongs, with which it forms a robust whole. It is the latter that vibrates and excites the surrounding air, forming a perfect loudspeaker. In so doing, it generates the sound and musicality of the L.U.C Full Strike timepiece.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Widely used in fields such as aerospace, the automotive industry and the production of medical components, ceramicised titanium is obtained by oxidising the surface layers of titanium at extreme temperatures using electro-plasma technology. The result is a metal with an attractive anthracite colour, offering the combined advantages of titanium and ceramics. The ceramicised titanium used to make the L.U.C Full Strike case – and which the workshops had already used for the L.U.C GMT One Black and L.U.C Time Traveler One Black models – is therefore both very light and shock-resistant, while boasting a superior hardness of around 1,000 Vickers (Hv). By way of comparison, standard grade 5 titanium has a hardness of 300 Vickers. This vastly improves the metal’s coefficient of friction as well as its resistance to wear and corrosion. Machining this innovative metal involves very strict and complex specifications, as the raw elements composing it must be of the highest level of purity. Thanks to this constraint, ceramicised titanium is a highly dermo-compatible material which – along with its light weight – makes the L.U.C Full Strike timepiece extremely comfortable to wear.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The case measures 42.50 millimetres in diameter and 11.55 millimetres thick: pleasingly balanced proportions that remain identical to previous versions of L.U.C Full Strike and contribute to the L.U.C collection’s characteristic elegance.

The dial
A colourful look for a daring overall effect

This model features a verdigris dial ensuring elegant chromatic harmony with the anthracite case. This is the first time that Chopard has associated its minute repeater with such a splash of colour: a daring move that demonstrates the Manufacture’s contemporary approach to Haute Horlogerie.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The centre is finely frosted, while the chapter ring and small seconds counter feature an opaline finish creating a velvety appearance. A cut-out between 9 and 11 o’clock reveals the bead-blasted steel hammers, whose surface has been PVD-treated to match the case colour. These hammers are positioned at dial level and thus clearly visible, forming an integral part of the watch’s design.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The railway-type minutes track is engraved on the crystal and painted, complementing a chapter ring punctuated by applied herringbone-shaped hour-markers in a matt metallic black shade – like the case – facing anthracite transferred counterparts on the inner ring.

The dial is also punctuated by the small seconds counter at 6 o’clock, the “L.U.CHOPARD” logo capsule at 3 o’clock, as well as the concentric power reserve indicator at 2 o’clock: two hands indicate the energy remaining in the barrel driving the movement (which as a 60-hour power reserve), and in the barrel driving the minute repeater.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The refinement of this model is acknowledged by the prestigious Poinçon de Genève, which applies to the construction and finishing of both the movement and the case.

The movement
An unprecedented chronometer with a patented sound mechanism

The L.U.C Full Strike watch inherits the unique advances characterising the L.U.C 08.01-L movement with its four Chopard-patented technical systems.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

In a minute repeater mechanism, the energy used by the strikework is provided each time the winding lever is activated. Here, the energy comes from a separate, dedicated barrel wound directly by the crown. This enables the L.U.C Full Strike model to chime the most complex and energy-intensive time of day (or night) – namely 12 hours and 59 minutes – up to 12 times.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This exceptional autonomy is due to several factors. It benefits from the contribution of a patented clutch-lever mechanism ensuring that the strikework going train is blocked to avoid losing power reserve during the information capture that controls the minute repeater.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This autonomy is moreover also the result of Chopard Manufacture’s experience in multiple barrels. The founding movement of the L.U.C collection – L.U.C Calibre 96.01-L introduced in 1996 – already featured Chopard Twin technology, whose two superimposed barrels deliver long-lasting and reliable force. Since it has an autonomous energy source, the strikework systematically respects the defined rhythm, with no pauses between the hours and quarters, or between the quarters and minutes, whatever the time and however many times it chimes.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Keen to preserve the user-friendliness of the minute repeater and to make its operation as secure as possible, Chopard Manufacture has introduced a large number of innovative systems. Thus, if the barrel no longer has sufficient force to power the minute repeater, a safety mechanism blocks its release. Chopard has also filed a patent for a new strikework-activation device. As soon as it is activated, the pusher is disengaged, thereby making it impossible to disturb the running of the minute repeater or to damage it.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

L.U.C Calibre 08.01-L operates at a 4 Hertz frequency, thereby guaranteeing enhanced rate stability and representing a rare feature on a minute repeater. To ensure even greater precision, the L.U.C Full Strike is equipped with a mechanism that stops the seconds hand at 6 o’clock when the crown is pulled out.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

This stop-second mechanism ensures that the time is set with perfect accuracy. The precision of the movement is chronometer-certified by the COSC (Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute), a guarantee to which Chopard Manufacture has long been committed.

L.U.C
Elegance and Fine Watchmaking in timeless symbiosis

Since 1996, Chopard Manufacture has been perpetuating watchmaking expertise and reflecting the inspired vision of Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, committed to a quest for innovation and to defending a heritage passed on by generations of watchmakers – true artisans of watchmaking emotions – since the time of Louis-Ulysse Chopard, founder of the Maison in 1860.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Movement development, finished product design, precious metal smelting, case stamping and machining, calibre components, engraving and traditional hand-crafted finishes, Grand Feu enamel, surface treatments, polishing, assembly, adjustments and quality controls: its Swiss workshops in Geneva and Fleurier enable Chopard to master the full range of watch production operations involved in each creation of the L.U.C collection.

The work of experienced artisans, these timepieces, whose simple and pure design expresses a high degree of mechanical sophistication, beat to the rhythm of the emotions experienced by the contemporary gentlemen for whom they are intended.

A marvel of engineering

On the occasion of the Salon Rétromobile, Chopard is reinterpreting its emblematic chronograph through an exclusive edition dedicated to French 'gentlemen drivers' - The Mille Miglia Classic Chonograph French Limited Edition Numbered 100-piece limited edition in Lucent Steel™.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Emblematic of Chopard's passion for motorsport, the Mille Miglia collection welcomes a new model issued as a numbered 100-piece limited edition and available in France. The Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph French Limited Edition will be unveiled at the Salon Rétromobile held from January 31st to February 4th in Paris.

Its 40.5 mm-diameter case is made of Lucent Steel™, Chopard's exclusive high-quality alloy made with a recycling rate of at least 80%. In addition, this timepiece is equipped with a chronograph movement featuring chronometer-certified precision, an ultra-legible tricolour dial and a superb 'glass box' crystal giving it a magnificently retro look.

Competitive spirit and a self-surpassing ethos; energy and dynamism; speed and style: such are the attributes of the famous Italian 1000 Miglia classic car race – sponsored by Chopard since 1988 – that the Manufacture's artisans have instilled into this new model eagerly awaited by collectors.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The most beautiful race in the world’ is inextricably linked with France, not least because it was the success of the Le Mans 24 Hours – first held in 1923 – that helped to inspire four automobile enthusiasts from Brescia to establish the 1000 Miglia

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

During the 30-year life span of the original 1000 Miglia, French-built cars took part in more editions and won more classes than those from any other country outside Italy. It’s a record to be proud of – and one that is well deserving of being commemorated in the very special Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph French Limited Edition.

Watches and cars: marvels of engineering

Like a timepiece, a vehicle is a marvel of engineering, as all devotees of watchmaking and automobiles know – and Chopard even more so, since the Maison has been inextricably linked with the automobile world since it became world sponsor and official timekeeper for Italy’s celebrated 1000 Miglia way back in 1988.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Reflecting his family’s passion for competition, the Maison’s Co-President, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, has personally taken part in the race every year since, covering more than 30,000 competition miles since 1989.

Within the framework of this partnership – the longest in history between a watchmaker and a motorsports event – the Mille Miglia collection was created, capturing the essence and spirit of what Enzo Ferrari called ‘the most beautiful race in the world’.

The Salon Rétromobile devoted to classic cars – of which this 2024 edition is held in Paris from January 31st to February 4th – offers Chopard the opportunity to reinterpret its Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph model in an exclusive numbered 100-piece limited edition specially presented in the French national colours.

Dynamism and ergonomics

True to the aesthetics of the historic cars registered for the 1000 Miglia, the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Edition France timepiece has a case measuring 40.5 mm in diameter, an optimally ergonomic size when driving, while also remaining as attractive with evening wear as when worn over a racing suit.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Made from Lucent Steel™, the case features all the characteristics associated with Chopard’s exclusive alloy that took a full four years to develop. Named after its luminous, gently reflective appearance that gives it an almost incandescent shimmer, Lucent Steel™ is not only of surgical quality but is 50 % harder than conventional steel – making it uniquely capable of handling the knocks, bumps and scrapes of competitive driving. Responsibly produced with 80% recycled content, Lucent Steel™ is REACH-certified, as well as being naturally anti-allergenic, ensuring it is highly dermo-compatible and pleasant to wear.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The bezels, crowns and pushers are made in this same material with contrasting polished and satin-brushed finishes. Moreover, the pushers are knurled to create a motif recalling brake pedals, while the crown features more notches to enhance the grip. On either end of the case, the lugs are welded – a token of fine craftsmanship sure to be appreciated by devotees of meticulous watchmaking. Finally, the pin buckle picks up the play on polished/satin-brushed finishes featured on the case.

Powerful aesthetics

Preserving strong cues from the automotive world, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele personally devised the design of this model inspired by the colours of the French flag.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

The midnight blue, white and red transfers on the circular satin-finished silver-toned dial serve twin aesthetic and technical purposes: as well as proudly symbolising the three national colours, they ensure that the indications are perfectly legible. The white minutes track and tachymeter scale – both essential for making speed and distance calculations – remain prominent within this meticulous layout, while the hour-markers as well as the hours and minutes hands are coated with Grade X1 Super-LumiNova® to ensure the high degree of legibility required for night-time driving.

The chronograph seconds hand is red for both practical and style-driven reasons, echoing the famous red 1000 Miglia logo applied to the dial.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A true exercise in ‘practical beauty’, the dial is protected by a deep, glass-box sapphire crystal secured by a slim bezel. Watch glasses of this type procure an obvious aesthetic advantage by giving the dial a sense of perspective. They serve to maximise the depth of the dial opening, as light pours in from above as well as from the sides, creating exquisite shimmering effects.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

Finally, the timepiece is fitted with a perforated calfskin strap matching the blue hues of the dial and reminiscent of traditional driving gloves.

A watch ‘engine’ with certified precision

The sapphire crystal case-back is adorned with crossed flags: one a black and white chequered racing and the other in the French national colours. It affords a view of the self-winding chronograph movement certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute and endowed with a 54-hour power reserve.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

A keen amateur driver himself, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele recognises the importance of being equipped with an accurate chronograph while taking part in events such as the 1000 Miglia, where a few fractions of a second can mean the difference between success or failure in a timed stage.

Click, to see the large size. BIG FOTO

With the new Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph French Limited Edition, accurate adjustments are also guaranteed by slip-resistant knurled pushers which, as well as being convenient, also add to the watch’s undeniable allure.

This model is clearly intended for drivers seeking to surpass themselves – much in the spirit of the Maison’s legendary ambassador and longstanding friend, six-time Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx.
