The House’s precious weaving technique was first introduced in 2016 with the Premier 36mm timepieces. The new Midnight Precious Weaving Automatic 42mm showcases the sublime work of Harry Winston’s master craftsmen, whose hand-weaving expertise honors Mr. Winston’s boundless creative spirit.

A rare technique from Japan

The Midnight Precious Weaving Automatic 42mm explores a rare Japanese weaving technique, in which silk gold thread and thin pieces of natural mother-of-pearl are woven together to create a unique tapestry of shimmering beauty. This unique art form was derived from “Raden,” the ancient Japanese practice of applying shells to wood and lacquer surfaces.

The Midnight Precious Weaving Automatic 42mm marks the House’s second exploration with hand-weaving as a way to transform a timepiece into a creative canvas. By combining mother-of-pearl – an organic material from the sea - with land-based silkworms, the House’s designers create a unique tapestry with a timeless quality.
